by Anonymousreply 107January 25, 2023 4:09 PM

Imogen Poots. I can't imagine why.

by Anonymousreply 1March 8, 2022 6:02 AM

Oh god there’s a lot! Daisy Edgar-Jones. Hoo? Hoo?

by Anonymousreply 2March 8, 2022 6:04 AM

You can’t send them back if they have an Oscar nomination.

by Anonymousreply 3March 8, 2022 6:04 AM

One nomination doesn't count. Anyone can receive one. (goop)

by Anonymousreply 4March 8, 2022 6:11 AM

Michelle Ryan

by Anonymousreply 5March 8, 2022 6:12 AM

Margaret Lockwood.

Peggy Cummins.

Rachel Kempson.

by Anonymousreply 6March 8, 2022 6:46 AM

Madonna- Please just take her back, Great Britain! At one time, you completely accepted her bad attempts at a British accent and even forgot she was a talentless whore.

We helped you win WWII, you ungrateful bastards. It’s your turn to help us defeat this monster!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 7March 8, 2022 7:07 AM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 8March 8, 2022 7:15 AM

Judi Dench. Ugh how talent-free!

Joely Richardson

Natasha Richardson had she not married Liam

James Corden

by Anonymousreply 13March 8, 2022 8:37 AM

I don’t know what a fuckin “Gemma arterton” is. I hate seeing that name. Also risenborough- who??

by Anonymousreply 14March 8, 2022 8:54 AM

I think you missed the point of the thread r14.

by Anonymousreply 15March 8, 2022 8:56 AM

Rosamund Pike is quite successful isn’t she? She’s in Amazon’s Wheel of Time with a starting role.

by Anonymousreply 16March 8, 2022 9:02 AM

Felicity " derp face" Jones is a raging bore. All she can play is generic supportive wife and girlfriend roles. I'm still shocked that she was nominated for an Oscar. But Andrea Risebourough is quite talented, I wouldn't mind seeing more small indie films from her.

by Anonymousreply 17March 8, 2022 9:09 AM

Emily Mortimer.

(….but it doesn’t matter ‘cos she’s really well connected and already rich….)

by Anonymousreply 18March 8, 2022 9:18 AM

Rosamund Pike is just too cold for American audiences. Even if an actress is a raging bitch behind the scenes, she has to be able to convincingly fake sweet girl next door to win over the people reading hordes. The one exception to this rule is Nicole Kidman. Icebox but very successful.

by Anonymousreply 19March 8, 2022 9:21 AM

R15 Have I? I don’t like them would assume I may want them sent back, yes?

by Anonymousreply 20March 8, 2022 10:21 AM

R19 Nicole isn’t an ice box anymore. She’s convinced us all she’s a shy country girl now.

by Anonymousreply 21March 8, 2022 10:23 AM

Bel Powley

by Anonymousreply 22March 8, 2022 10:38 AM

R21 A shy country girl who is besties with Rupert Murdoch.

by Anonymousreply 23March 8, 2022 10:42 AM

Claire Foy, Daisy Ridley, Emilia Jones, Olivia Cooke, Alice Eve, Melanie ThandiWe Newton (light-skinned unlike mama), Emilia Clarke (she’s awful).

by Anonymousreply 24March 8, 2022 10:55 AM

R23 Well whoeverthefuck.. I guess they frolick on the farm now. Nicole’s been warm n cuddly since about 2001.

by Anonymousreply 25March 8, 2022 10:56 AM

Oi r12! Leave my beard out of this. Awwright!

by Anonymousreply 26March 8, 2022 11:04 AM

Andrea Riseborough is the queen of this thread.

I know for a fact I’ve seen her in movies (W.E., Nocturnal Animals), but I couldn’t pick her out of a line-up! Seriously, if I saw her picture (no, I can’t be bothered to look her up), I wouldn’t know who it is.

by Anonymousreply 27March 8, 2022 2:25 PM

Rosamunde Pike is doing okay.

by Anonymousreply 28March 8, 2022 2:33 PM

Natasha Richardson was doing fine with The Parent Trap and Handmaid's Tale. Then she died. Very sad.

by Anonymousreply 29March 8, 2022 2:36 PM

Gordon Ramsay.

by Anonymousreply 30March 8, 2022 2:37 PM

R29 Those we’re like 9 years apart. The Parent Trap was a comedown from her serious or prestige parts she never was a stand out in.

by Anonymousreply 31March 8, 2022 8:24 PM

R31 - she was great in Canaret

by Anonymousreply 32March 8, 2022 8:30 PM

Andrea R. is a very talented actress. Maybe not leading lady material but definitely great character actor material. She should have a long career everywhere.

Now, the interchangeable Emilia Clarke and Felicity Jones, swim home, bitches!

by Anonymousreply 33March 8, 2022 8:31 PM

Gah you beat me to it w/ Alice Eve R24! I agree that Andrea R is in a separate category to the others- she has character to her, a deep melancholy that is interesting. But she's been unlucky with her vehicles. Everyone who doubts her talent should see her Black Mirror episode- she's really strong in that.

Claire Foy/Felicity Jones/Emilia Clarke = the same bland person, right? Surely?

But the winner of this thread, HANDS DOWN is Emma Watson. She was fairly well cast in HP and she looks good on magazine covers and walking a red carpet. But she's a wooden actress with a cold, unlikeable personality. Her people were trying *so* hard to make her happen for a second there. But she's a cold fish and couldn't connect with audiences.

by Anonymousreply 34March 9, 2022 6:19 AM

R34 Watch Nancy if you haven't already. Very haunting film.

by Anonymousreply 35March 9, 2022 6:22 AM

Emma Watson has retired from acting. Even she could see what a shitty actress she was.

by Anonymousreply 36March 9, 2022 6:23 AM

R36 If true I kind of respect that. So many cling desperately for dear life once they get even a taste of fame and the spotlight.

by Anonymousreply 37March 9, 2022 6:26 AM

If that's true, it's the best movie news in years.

Crews hated her diva behavior. Cold and unapproachable on screen, you say? In real life she was the iceberg that sank Titanic. Total bitch full of herself who treated professionals who have been working in the industry for many decades like servants.

by Anonymousreply 38March 9, 2022 6:27 AM

Yes but she was forced into retirement after having like three movies in a row flop..... that she was supposed to carry. One was a suspense thriller with Tom Hanks I think? I had to turn it it off- it was abysmal.

Then she tried to go the Oprah/Meghan Markle humanitarian host route...for about 5 minutes. But no one was buying it. Now I think she's just dating rich guys in LA...

-R34

by Anonymousreply 39March 9, 2022 6:28 AM

Can't all of those Harry Potter kids retire from those films alone?

They should do what the villain kid did. None of them were very good, unlike the adults in those movies who were all great actors and carried the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 40March 9, 2022 6:34 AM

Charlotte Kirke.

by Anonymousreply 41March 9, 2022 7:00 AM

Hayley Atwell. I don’t know who that is either.

by Anonymousreply 42March 9, 2022 8:29 AM

As far as "overrated" goes, Daisy Ridley owns this thread; other than her dull role in those dismal SW movies, she's done nothing. She's cute, but dull.

by Anonymousreply 43March 9, 2022 8:48 AM

Except for Riseborough, they're all the same person.

by Anonymousreply 44March 9, 2022 4:54 PM

Emma Watson has all the charisma of a bowl of tapioca pudding.

by Anonymousreply 45March 9, 2022 5:15 PM

Get ready for more of Alice Eve R24 and R34 because she was just cast as the lead in the 90s TV show Early Edition reboot.

by Anonymousreply 46March 18, 2022 4:29 AM

I also like Riseborough. She has an intriguing presence. I also love Rosamund Pike. Great performances in An Education and Gone Girl.

by Anonymousreply 47March 18, 2022 4:41 AM

Minnie Driver

by Anonymousreply 48March 18, 2022 5:08 AM

Andrea Riseborough is incredibly talented. She will have a long and interesting career.

by Anonymousreply 49March 18, 2022 5:16 AM

She's 40 r49.

She needs to go back to the UK if she wants to still work.

by Anonymousreply 50March 18, 2022 5:19 AM

Andrea Riseborough will have to prove she exists before she has a long, interesting career

by Anonymousreply 51March 18, 2022 6:07 AM

It actually kind of bizarre how interchangeable the entire group of brunette early 20s to late 30s British actresses are. They all have the EXACT same bland screen presences; you could have cast any of them in any of their roles and gotten the same end product. And it's specifically the brunette ones; British blondes like Rosemund Pike, Anna Taylor-Joy, Jodie Comer, and Florence Pugh all have very distinct energies that add a little something extra to their performances. Even Lily James has discovered how to lean into a natural vulnerable quality she has, to add depth to her performances (though it took her AWHILE to figure it out).

by Anonymousreply 52March 18, 2022 6:35 AM

[quote] Andrea Riseborough will have to prove she exists before she has a long, interesting career

She's constantly working.

by Anonymousreply 53March 18, 2022 8:09 AM

R46 Who on earth decided we need a reboot of Extra Edition? Christ! Nuke us and end it all.

by Anonymousreply 54March 18, 2022 8:12 AM

EARLY* Edition

by Anonymousreply 55March 18, 2022 8:12 AM

Emma Thompson & Cate Blanchett (I know she is 'Australian' but has spent much of her career living in the UK).

by Anonymousreply 56March 18, 2022 8:14 AM

In what world has Cate Blanchett not "made it" in America? Emma Thompson has mostly stuck to being annoying in her home country since the early 2000s.

by Anonymousreply 57March 18, 2022 3:24 PM

Cate Blanchett has secured for herself the persona of Grand Dame of the Cinema. She's actually quite the repetitive performer.

by Anonymousreply 58March 19, 2022 2:19 AM

Cate Blanchett has definitely made it. She's a huge success. Her only problem is that she is a bit like Nicole Kidman, where casting directors keep putting her in roles that don't necessarily suit her.

by Anonymousreply 59March 19, 2022 9:20 AM

Rosamund Pike was in the hit thriller Gone Girl and got nominated for an Oscar. She also just won a Globe. But, feel free to lack the taste to leave her out of the aforementioned group, OP.

by Anonymousreply 60March 19, 2022 9:22 AM

[...]

by Anonymousreply 61March 19, 2022 9:31 AM

Rosamund Pike? Yes, receiving an Oscar nomination, getting Emmys and Golden Globes, being perceived as one of the best actresses of your generation equals to not making it. You surely are a bright one, OP.

by Anonymousreply 62March 19, 2022 10:08 AM

R56 Emma Thompson & Cate Blanchett have not made it in Hollywood? Are you an imbecile?

by Anonymousreply 63March 19, 2022 10:12 AM

Hayley Atwell's career consists entirely of playing Peggy Carter over and over again, and outside of the MCU: the Main Character's wife/mother. She can feed her family but creatively, she must feel like blowing her brains out. She's turning 40 so it's only going to get worse.

by Anonymousreply 64March 19, 2022 10:45 AM

R61 Same thing.

by Anonymousreply 65March 19, 2022 10:55 AM

Florence Pugh has an American shaped body size.

by Anonymousreply 66March 19, 2022 11:05 AM

Romola Garai

Cheryl Tweedy - was it the indecipherable accent or racist attack on a black woman that did it for her?

by Anonymousreply 67March 19, 2022 11:12 AM

[quote] Bel Powley

Now that was a face made for radio

by Anonymousreply 68March 19, 2022 11:17 AM

R66, "chubby little Florence Pugh".

Anyone remember Ian McKellen on SNL 1,000 years ago?

by Anonymousreply 69March 19, 2022 11:31 AM

Is Gemma still making the Dusty Springfield movie?

by Anonymousreply 70March 19, 2022 11:33 AM

R67 Romola wouldn't fuck Harvey that is what stalled her promising career.

by Anonymousreply 71March 21, 2022 6:28 AM

R67 Cheryl Tweedy an... ACTRESS?!?!

by Anonymousreply 72March 21, 2022 6:44 AM

I love Romola Garai.

I can't stand Rose Leslie.

by Anonymousreply 73March 21, 2022 6:50 AM

Olivia Colman

by Anonymousreply 74March 21, 2022 6:52 AM

Instead of shitting on OP for mentioning Rosamund Pike, i just suggest watching I CARE A LOT. Its dark, nasty, and a little bit funny. There's a reason she won a golden globe and should have been nominated for an Oscar

by Anonymousreply 75March 21, 2022 7:08 AM

Florence Pugh isn’t chubby.

by Anonymousreply 76March 21, 2022 7:08 AM

She played the same psycho bitch in I Care A Lot that she did in Gone Girl. She's typecast. (and the film wasn't funny at all and shouldn't have been in Best Comedy.) She's not going to be a major star. She's peaked. Send her home.

by Anonymousreply 77March 21, 2022 7:12 AM

Also love Romola Garai. She should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Atonement, not Saoirse Ronan.

by Anonymousreply 78March 21, 2022 7:30 AM

Rosamund is very good in State of the Union UK series.

by Anonymousreply 79March 21, 2022 11:00 AM

R78 I prefer Garai to Ronan as well. Saoirse is not talentless but she has the same problem that I see with a lot of current popular actresses ....she is just too low energy. Maybe that style is simply en vogue. Garai has more of a spark and energy to her performances.

by Anonymousreply 80March 21, 2022 11:20 AM

Sybil Thorndike

by Anonymousreply 81March 21, 2022 11:41 AM

Andrea Riseborough is one of the best actresses around. Watch her in National Treasure, the Black Mirror episode, and in ZeroZeroZero.

by Anonymousreply 82March 21, 2022 11:42 AM

Minnie Driver

by Anonymousreply 83March 21, 2022 12:07 PM

If Andrea Riseborough is listed on the credits, I'll watch it.

She is always great and will never be short of work. One of the very few under 40 English speaking actresses I actually like all the time.

by Anonymousreply 84March 21, 2022 12:51 PM

[quote] Florence Pugh has an American shaped body size.

Right, Ohio White trash.

by Anonymousreply 85March 23, 2022 2:07 AM

Rula Lenska.

Enough already with the VO5 commercials!

by Anonymousreply 86March 23, 2022 2:36 AM

Rosamund stays all the others meh

by Anonymousreply 87March 23, 2022 2:39 AM

I also loved Rosamund Pike in I Care a Lot.

by Anonymousreply 88March 23, 2022 2:54 AM

Leave Rula alone. You cannot imagine the fame she had just from those commercials.

by Anonymousreply 89March 23, 2022 3:06 AM

Gemma Arterton went back to the UK years ago.

As others have pointed out, Riseborough is a character actress and will probably have a long career.

by Anonymousreply 90March 23, 2022 3:17 AM

[quote]Leave Rula alone. You cannot imagine the fame she had just from those commercials.

She was robbed of an Oscar for "Queen Kong".

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 91March 23, 2022 6:11 AM

Gemma Arterton used to mock Jennifer Aniston for making comedies... Isn't it ironic that she ended up playing a small role in an Adam Sandler comedy movie starring Jennifer Aniston as the lead? LOL. One of the reasons why her career never went anywhere is her habit of trashing her past work and her peers while portraying herself as a superior human being and the world's greatest thespian that deserves so much better than everyone else. Arrogance and ungratefulness have sinked her career. Not to mention her white "feminism" and bad acting, of course.

R90 She went back to the UK because her attempts at a career in Hollywood and France didn't work out. She was auditioning for a lot of blockbusters in Hollywood at the same time she was claiming that she hated them.

by Anonymousreply 92March 23, 2022 9:17 AM

Ugh Joely Richardson. She was such a wet blanket in Nip/Tuck. I'm glad she's not a big star.

by Anonymousreply 93March 23, 2022 1:49 PM

Like mother, like daughter.

by Anonymousreply 94March 24, 2022 12:12 AM

92 IIRC she also declined to fuck co-star Ben Affleck so that didn't help her career...

by Anonymousreply 95March 24, 2022 5:26 AM

Bump

I guess Andrea Riseborough has made it, OP.

by Anonymousreply 96January 25, 2023 12:43 PM

Rosamund Pike Andrea Riseborough Gemma Arterton Felicity Jones

who who who and who

by Anonymousreply 97January 25, 2023 1:02 PM

R97 People who didn't make it in the US which is why you don't know who they are. Try to keep up.

by Anonymousreply 98January 25, 2023 1:04 PM

I know perfectly well what this thread is about.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 99January 25, 2023 1:16 PM

Michelle Dockery

Though I'm not sure she's even "made it" in the UK.

by Anonymousreply 100January 25, 2023 1:44 PM

Rosamund Pike is not a versatile actress. She was good as a cold bitch in I Care a Lot, but Gone Girl required a more nuanced take, so that the reveal is shocking. She signalled psycho bitch from the start.

by Anonymousreply 101January 25, 2023 3:10 PM

Rosamund Pike is firmly established now as the Go-To actress for cold psychopath characters. She brings the crazy, maybe a bit TOO reliably. I think of her as the new Amanda Peat.

by Anonymousreply 102January 25, 2023 3:30 PM

[quote] I know for a fact I’ve seen her in movies (W.E., Nocturnal Animals), but I couldn’t pick her out of a line-up! Seriously, if I saw her picture (no, I can’t be bothered to look her up), I wouldn’t know who it is.

That's because Andrea disappears into each character she plays like our Melissa Leo. That's not star making quality but it certainly helps as an actress and she's a very good one.

by Anonymousreply 103January 25, 2023 3:43 PM

I never thought of Melissa Leo as much of a chameleon, R103. But if Riseborough is any kind of a promotion whore as Leo was in her Oscar groveling, Riseborough will win. (Of course we know she really won't; the nomination is definitely the award here.)

by Anonymousreply 104January 25, 2023 3:52 PM

Samantha Morton. The bug eyes are too much, and she's atrocious at American accents.

by Anonymousreply 105January 25, 2023 3:59 PM

R19 Julia Roberts seems like a total bitch but she made it. Maybe because she’s American so the aww shucks sweetie pie next door schtick stuck a little better.

by Anonymousreply 106January 25, 2023 4:06 PM

Pike and Roberts are worlds apart on screen. Maybe they're bitches under the skin in real life.
