Madonna- Please just take her back, Great Britain! At one time, you completely accepted her bad attempts at a British accent and even forgot she was a talentless whore.

I think you missed the point of the thread r14.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 8, 2022 8:56 AM |
Rosamund Pike is quite successful isn’t she? She’s in Amazon’s Wheel of Time with a starting role.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 8, 2022 9:02 AM |
Felicity " derp face" Jones is a raging bore. All she can play is generic supportive wife and girlfriend roles. I'm still shocked that she was nominated for an Oscar. But Andrea Risebourough is quite talented, I wouldn't mind seeing more small indie films from her.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 8, 2022 9:09 AM |
Emily Mortimer.
(….but it doesn’t matter ‘cos she’s really well connected and already rich….)
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 8, 2022 9:18 AM |
Rosamund Pike is just too cold for American audiences. Even if an actress is a raging bitch behind the scenes, she has to be able to convincingly fake sweet girl next door to win over the people reading hordes. The one exception to this rule is Nicole Kidman. Icebox but very successful.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 8, 2022 9:21 AM |
R15 Have I? I don’t like them would assume I may want them sent back, yes?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 8, 2022 10:21 AM |
R19 Nicole isn’t an ice box anymore. She’s convinced us all she’s a shy country girl now.

Claire Foy, Daisy Ridley, Emilia Jones, Olivia Cooke, Alice Eve, Melanie ThandiWe Newton (light-skinned unlike mama), Emilia Clarke (she’s awful).

R23 Well whoeverthefuck.. I guess they frolick on the farm now. Nicole’s been warm n cuddly since about 2001.

Oi r12! Leave my beard out of this. Awwright!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 8, 2022 11:04 AM |
Andrea Riseborough is the queen of this thread.
I know for a fact I’ve seen her in movies (W.E., Nocturnal Animals), but I couldn’t pick her out of a line-up! Seriously, if I saw her picture (no, I can’t be bothered to look her up), I wouldn’t know who it is.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 8, 2022 2:25 PM |
Rosamunde Pike is doing okay.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 8, 2022 2:33 PM |
Natasha Richardson was doing fine with The Parent Trap and Handmaid's Tale. Then she died. Very sad.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 8, 2022 2:36 PM |
Gordon Ramsay.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 8, 2022 2:37 PM |
R29 Those we’re like 9 years apart. The Parent Trap was a comedown from her serious or prestige parts she never was a stand out in.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 8, 2022 8:24 PM |
R31 - she was great in Canaret
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 8, 2022 8:30 PM |
Andrea R. is a very talented actress. Maybe not leading lady material but definitely great character actor material. She should have a long career everywhere.
Now, the interchangeable Emilia Clarke and Felicity Jones, swim home, bitches!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 8, 2022 8:31 PM |
Gah you beat me to it w/ Alice Eve R24! I agree that Andrea R is in a separate category to the others- she has character to her, a deep melancholy that is interesting. But she's been unlucky with her vehicles. Everyone who doubts her talent should see her Black Mirror episode- she's really strong in that.
Claire Foy/Felicity Jones/Emilia Clarke = the same bland person, right? Surely?
But the winner of this thread, HANDS DOWN is Emma Watson. She was fairly well cast in HP and she looks good on magazine covers and walking a red carpet. But she's a wooden actress with a cold, unlikeable personality. Her people were trying *so* hard to make her happen for a second there. But she's a cold fish and couldn't connect with audiences.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 9, 2022 6:19 AM |
R34 Watch Nancy if you haven't already. Very haunting film.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 9, 2022 6:22 AM |
Emma Watson has retired from acting. Even she could see what a shitty actress she was.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 9, 2022 6:23 AM |
R36 If true I kind of respect that. So many cling desperately for dear life once they get even a taste of fame and the spotlight.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 9, 2022 6:26 AM |
If that's true, it's the best movie news in years.
Crews hated her diva behavior. Cold and unapproachable on screen, you say? In real life she was the iceberg that sank Titanic. Total bitch full of herself who treated professionals who have been working in the industry for many decades like servants.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 9, 2022 6:27 AM |
Yes but she was forced into retirement after having like three movies in a row flop..... that she was supposed to carry. One was a suspense thriller with Tom Hanks I think? I had to turn it it off- it was abysmal.
Then she tried to go the Oprah/Meghan Markle humanitarian host route...for about 5 minutes. But no one was buying it. Now I think she's just dating rich guys in LA...
-R34
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 9, 2022 6:28 AM |
Can't all of those Harry Potter kids retire from those films alone?
They should do what the villain kid did. None of them were very good, unlike the adults in those movies who were all great actors and carried the whole thing.

Hayley Atwell. I don’t know who that is either.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 9, 2022 8:29 AM |
As far as "overrated" goes, Daisy Ridley owns this thread; other than her dull role in those dismal SW movies, she's done nothing. She's cute, but dull.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 9, 2022 8:48 AM |
Except for Riseborough, they're all the same person.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 9, 2022 4:54 PM |
Emma Watson has all the charisma of a bowl of tapioca pudding.

I also like Riseborough. She has an intriguing presence. I also love Rosamund Pike. Great performances in An Education and Gone Girl.

She's 40 r49.
She needs to go back to the UK if she wants to still work.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 18, 2022 5:19 AM |
Andrea Riseborough will have to prove she exists before she has a long, interesting career
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 18, 2022 6:07 AM |
It actually kind of bizarre how interchangeable the entire group of brunette early 20s to late 30s British actresses are. They all have the EXACT same bland screen presences; you could have cast any of them in any of their roles and gotten the same end product. And it's specifically the brunette ones; British blondes like Rosemund Pike, Anna Taylor-Joy, Jodie Comer, and Florence Pugh all have very distinct energies that add a little something extra to their performances. Even Lily James has discovered how to lean into a natural vulnerable quality she has, to add depth to her performances (though it took her AWHILE to figure it out).

Emma Thompson & Cate Blanchett (I know she is 'Australian' but has spent much of her career living in the UK).
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 18, 2022 8:14 AM |
In what world has Cate Blanchett not "made it" in America? Emma Thompson has mostly stuck to being annoying in her home country since the early 2000s.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 18, 2022 3:24 PM |
Cate Blanchett has secured for herself the persona of Grand Dame of the Cinema. She's actually quite the repetitive performer.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 19, 2022 2:19 AM |
Cate Blanchett has definitely made it. She's a huge success. Her only problem is that she is a bit like Nicole Kidman, where casting directors keep putting her in roles that don't necessarily suit her.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 19, 2022 9:20 AM |
Rosamund Pike was in the hit thriller Gone Girl and got nominated for an Oscar. She also just won a Globe. But, feel free to lack the taste to leave her out of the aforementioned group, OP.

by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 19, 2022 9:31 AM |
Rosamund Pike? Yes, receiving an Oscar nomination, getting Emmys and Golden Globes, being perceived as one of the best actresses of your generation equals to not making it. You surely are a bright one, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 19, 2022 10:08 AM |
R56 Emma Thompson & Cate Blanchett have not made it in Hollywood? Are you an imbecile?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 19, 2022 10:12 AM |
Hayley Atwell's career consists entirely of playing Peggy Carter over and over again, and outside of the MCU: the Main Character's wife/mother. She can feed her family but creatively, she must feel like blowing her brains out. She's turning 40 so it's only going to get worse.

Instead of shitting on OP for mentioning Rosamund Pike, i just suggest watching I CARE A LOT. Its dark, nasty, and a little bit funny. There's a reason she won a golden globe and should have been nominated for an Oscar
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 21, 2022 7:08 AM |
Florence Pugh isn’t chubby.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 21, 2022 7:08 AM |
She played the same psycho bitch in I Care A Lot that she did in Gone Girl. She's typecast. (and the film wasn't funny at all and shouldn't have been in Best Comedy.) She's not going to be a major star. She's peaked. Send her home.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 21, 2022 7:12 AM |
Also love Romola Garai. She should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Atonement, not Saoirse Ronan.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 21, 2022 7:30 AM |
Rosamund is very good in State of the Union UK series.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 21, 2022 11:00 AM |
R78 I prefer Garai to Ronan as well. Saoirse is not talentless but she has the same problem that I see with a lot of current popular actresses ....she is just too low energy. Maybe that style is simply en vogue. Garai has more of a spark and energy to her performances.

If Andrea Riseborough is listed on the credits, I'll watch it.
She is always great and will never be short of work. One of the very few under 40 English speaking actresses I actually like all the time.

Leave Rula alone. You cannot imagine the fame she had just from those commercials.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | March 23, 2022 3:06 AM |
Gemma Arterton went back to the UK years ago.
As others have pointed out, Riseborough is a character actress and will probably have a long career.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 23, 2022 3:17 AM |
[quote]Leave Rula alone. You cannot imagine the fame she had just from those commercials.
She was robbed of an Oscar for "Queen Kong".
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 23, 2022 6:11 AM |
Gemma Arterton used to mock Jennifer Aniston for making comedies... Isn't it ironic that she ended up playing a small role in an Adam Sandler comedy movie starring Jennifer Aniston as the lead? LOL. One of the reasons why her career never went anywhere is her habit of trashing her past work and her peers while portraying herself as a superior human being and the world's greatest thespian that deserves so much better than everyone else. Arrogance and ungratefulness have sinked her career. Not to mention her white "feminism" and bad acting, of course.
R90 She went back to the UK because her attempts at a career in Hollywood and France didn't work out. She was auditioning for a lot of blockbusters in Hollywood at the same time she was claiming that she hated them.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | March 23, 2022 9:17 AM |
Ugh Joely Richardson. She was such a wet blanket in Nip/Tuck. I'm glad she's not a big star.

by Anonymous | reply 94 | March 24, 2022 12:12 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 100 | January 25, 2023 1:44 PM |
Rosamund Pike is not a versatile actress. She was good as a cold bitch in I Care a Lot, but Gone Girl required a more nuanced take, so that the reveal is shocking. She signalled psycho bitch from the start.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | January 25, 2023 3:10 PM |
Rosamund Pike is firmly established now as the Go-To actress for cold psychopath characters. She brings the crazy, maybe a bit TOO reliably. I think of her as the new Amanda Peat.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | January 25, 2023 3:30 PM |

That's because Andrea disappears into each character she plays like our Melissa Leo. That's not star making quality but it certainly helps as an actress and she's a very good one.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 25, 2023 3:43 PM |
I never thought of Melissa Leo as much of a chameleon, R103. But if Riseborough is any kind of a promotion whore as Leo was in her Oscar groveling, Riseborough will win. (Of course we know she really won't; the nomination is definitely the award here.)
by Anonymous | reply 104 | January 25, 2023 3:52 PM |
Samantha Morton. The bug eyes are too much, and she's atrocious at American accents.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | January 25, 2023 3:59 PM |
