Cher's homes through the years

Why does one person need that much space? She doesn't even have grandkids.

Some of the houses are quite ugly.

by Anonymousreply 1March 6, 2022 9:13 PM

She hardly lived in a lot of them. She just buys them and flips them

by Anonymousreply 2March 6, 2022 9:18 PM

r1 Her best tacky one was a smaller home in Malibu she had in the 70s. People used to wonder why she chose such a small home. And it was a mishmash of styles and filled to brim to such an extent she could have been on hoarders.

r2 OP yeah, she's spoken about it several times over career... from self esteem issues to the sense of physical and financial security. She'd rather put money into a home than a bank. If she was desperate she could sign and sell her old tupperware, and get a better return on it than from interest on a savings account.

I'll never understand this about the super rich.

I can appreciate wanting multiple places around the world. New York, Miami/L.A., France, etc. Especially if you spend more than a month there. Staying in a hotel that long would get old/odd.

Why they have to be these gigantic properties though, I do not understand. The cost to maintain them alone.

What are those matching 60s cars Sonny and Cher are sitting on? I don’t think I’ve ever seen cars that look like that.

by Anonymousreply 5March 6, 2022 9:28 PM

They're a pair of custom Mustangs, r5.

Sonny and Cher used to do remotes from that house on the afternoon teen shows. As a kid I thought they and their stuff was about the coolest thing I'd ever seen

I had an ex-boyfriend who was the gas company meter reader for Cher's "Carolwood" property in Holmby Hills. .. This was after her divorce from Sonny and during the time when she lived there with husband No. 2, Gregg Allman. He said more than once, she came out and offered him a soda or lemonade .. lol!

r8 back in the day, she was really the epitomy of the celebrity without the celebrity attitude. . it was Sonny that wanted to be famous and she was just along for the ride. Even years after success, she wasn't sure it was something she wanted, so, she came up with excuses for why she did so well. The separation didn't help with the self esteem issues. so, it wasn't until the 80s, she started feeling secure with celebrity (incidentally, coinciding when the more extreme cosmetic procedures began) but even then, she remained grounded - There was Cher the person and then the character of Cher the performer, the actress, the celebrity, like Elvira, (incidentally, Cassandra Peterson had similar issues, before perfecting Elvira, she had imposter syndrome... but for her, the self esteem issues and persona were significantly helped by the boob job alone.)

I only believe in lofts after love.

There is something so be likable about her.

by Anonymousreply 11March 6, 2022 11:34 PM

Was she already wearing the wigs back in the "I Got You Babe" era?

r12 rarely; when a skit called for it or elaborate styling that required sitting still for more than five minutes.

OP's link doesn't work for me. Does the article mention her duplex penthouse in the Silk Building on lower Broadway? It was her Manhattan residence for years. Of course I was never invited to tea but I was in that building so often because the lower floors were Tower Records' flagship New York location.

by Anonymousreply 20March 6, 2022 11:57 PM

For some reason, I remember an Egyptian themed Beverly Hills home that she sold to Eddie Murphy who then built his monster home in Beverly Park.

by Anonymousreply 21March 7, 2022 12:06 AM

R8 I remember reading about that. You'd never hear about Madge doing something like that.

R9 I'm pretty sure Cassandra Peterson's/Elvira's breasts are natural.

by Anonymousreply 22March 7, 2022 12:15 AM

It's called having investment properties.

Duh!

by Anonymousreply 23March 7, 2022 12:34 AM

r22 except there's always been a debate about her breasts. Sure, she started pretty young, so they could have increased. Sure, contouring can do a lot but there's been too many people that have worked with/known her that have claimed she went from them being average to wowza practically over night. So, maybe not implants but most believe she had some kind of augumentation back then. But regardless, she did have treatments to minimize childhood scarring and did have insecurities about her looks despite being a looker. The development of a "persona" changed a lot for. Also, split personas, Elvira eludes to a lot more things Cassandra denies. But it's always difficult to know where the truth lies with people that have a stage persona for the social but retreats back to childhood scars in real life. Hence, most introverts tend to be socially awkward, pick up a schtick to be social; usually funny or slutty. These ladies were talented enough to do both.

by Anonymousreply 24March 7, 2022 3:17 AM

r24 and to avoid the angry femtards, it's probably projection on my part, though it's a common reaction for the bullied and outcasts to develop a persona. oh, the woes of the eternal jan bradys. I ended up with a slutty persona myself. So, acting like a sexpot avoided having to deal with small talk and not knowing the cool topic of the day.

"[R12] rarely; when a skit called for it or elaborate styling that required sitting still for more than five minutes."

She wasn't doing "skits" back in their hippie days, they just sang.

I was just wondering if her flower child long hair was real or a wig.

by Anonymousreply 26March 7, 2022 4:41 AM

I could see her house from my shower when I lived in Malibu.
