Nickelodeon's DOUBLE DARE on Paramount+
Wow, haven't watched this show since it's initial run back in 1986 when I was 10 years old....that was nearly 36 years ago.
I remember always wishing I could have went on it but never would have been able to get up the chocolate syrup slide.
The questions are so 80s schlock. Lots of Cosby Show, Family Ties centered questions and the prizes are high camp... a Garfield telephone by Tyco, 19" RCA color TV, Sony Walkman, a Ross BMX bike, a Fisher CD player the size of an 8-track player, a necklace that plays the radio (?) by L'Ectronique!
I remember crushing hard on host Marc Summers and watching now it is amazing how he manhandles the kids by snatching them by the arms to turn them towards the camera, etc... That would never fly today. I also hated FAMILY DOUBLE DARE and when the kids got too savvy and would just engage in physical challenges.
So would you take the physical challenge?

Can you imagine Marc Summers hosting American Idol? Or Ryan Seacrest hosting Double Dare?

I also had the Garfield phone in the den where I did homework. The “hang up” button on the receiver was huge, and I often hit it accidentally while talking and hung up. I stopped using the Garfield phone as much after too many incidences of that.
I also dreamed of going on Double Dare.

The obstacle course at the end was everything. God, I used to dream about getting to jump into the vat of pudding and stick my arm up the giant nose where green slime blew out the nostril.

I never had the Garfield phone but I got the cheeseburger phone handed down to me. I used it to call and listen to recorded news headlines on a hotline from a local news station which I would transcribe and use for my nightly newscast that I put on for my stuffed animals.

I also had the cheeseburger phone and my parents bought me the Nickelodeon Slime shampoo they advertised on Double Dare! Also had the Reeboks they gave the kids.
