Why?
Baby Cried the Day the Circus Came to Town
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 8, 2022 3:33 AM |
'cause she didn't want parades
just passin' by her...
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 5, 2022 7:29 PM |
Baby is an awful lot like me.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 5, 2022 7:30 PM |
Baby saw that when they pulled that big top down
They left behind her dreams among the litter
Bitch
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 5, 2022 7:33 PM |
She had been raped by Emmett Kelly two years prior.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 5, 2022 7:33 PM |
R4 = misogynistic fucktard
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 5, 2022 7:36 PM |
[Baby saw that when they pulled that big top down]
Baby was a bottom...
She couldn't stand to see that Big Top go...
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 5, 2022 7:40 PM |
But Baby can't be broken, 'cause you see, she had the finest (b.j.) teacher -- that was me.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 5, 2022 8:20 PM |
So sigh out loud, r7, don't keep it inside, don't learn how to hide your penis...
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 5, 2022 8:24 PM |
It’s a pretty stupid song, but I do enjoy hearing it from time to time.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 5, 2022 8:48 PM |
I heard an elevator music version of it today. It has a decent melody.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 5, 2022 9:19 PM |
Baby is an entitled, insufferable cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 5, 2022 10:15 PM |
Because she got put in the corner.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 6, 2022 3:17 AM |
Hey, could you all just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 6, 2022 4:12 AM |
And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 6, 2022 4:16 AM |
Wushz Baby me?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 6, 2022 4:18 AM |
R15 It was a circus Liza, not a cabaret.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 6, 2022 4:29 AM |
She doesn't like carnies?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 6, 2022 4:36 AM |
I was MOLESTED!
Fucking molested - how many times I gotta say it!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 6, 2022 5:04 AM |
She’s never been touched by a carny?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 6, 2022 6:09 PM |
What about me? It isn’t fair. I’ve had enough now I want my share. Can’t you see?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 6, 2022 6:37 PM |
Because she was a dour lesbian.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 6, 2022 6:47 PM |
She was afraid of clowns.
Who the fuck isn't?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 6, 2022 6:56 PM |
I think I left my dreams among the litter too, Baby.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 6, 2022 6:56 PM |
Among the litter, Baby found a red balloon.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 6, 2022 7:05 PM |
Leave me alone (ruby red dress)
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 6, 2022 7:22 PM |
Hands off the elephant trainer, bitch. He's mine.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 6, 2022 7:25 PM |
[qoute][R4] = misogynistic fucktard
Um, why?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 6, 2022 7:31 PM |
Very negative song where mental health is concerned. If the song had been told from the point of a therapist, Baby should have sued for millions. Also, Baby should have told the clown to go fuck himself with his umbrella that rained from inside (not part of the lyrics, mind you).
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 6, 2022 7:48 PM |
Before I knew how Peter Allen fit into the story, that actually was my argument, R29. "Well, what if you're manic depressive? Fuck you, Melissa Manchester!"
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 6, 2022 9:13 PM |
The song leaves a more important question unanswered: who is Annette? "I danced without Annette upon the wire." Where did Annette go? Is she still missing?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 6, 2022 9:30 PM |
They even made a TV movie about it. The dialog sounds like a 40s noir movie with John Garfield and Ida Lupino.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 6, 2022 9:40 PM |
Would you pull that crap with Annette?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 6, 2022 10:14 PM |
No, no, no, Sal Mineo.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 6, 2022 10:35 PM |
Baby fingered her pussy the day the circus came to town because she didn’t want clowns cocks inside of her.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 6, 2022 10:52 PM |
Such wit, r37.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 6, 2022 10:53 PM |
I know a lot about it. Baby is an awful lot like me.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 7, 2022 2:01 AM |
I always thought it was Bette Midler singing this song.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 7, 2022 2:06 AM |
Nobody puts Baby in a corner!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 7, 2022 2:18 AM |
It was actually a DL baby and he was terrified of being raped in the ass by a pitbull again. Or afraid of a dancing clown leading him into a gas chamber.
As a DL baby all he wanted to do was go to Broadway and be in a show -- Oh!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 7, 2022 2:28 AM |
Baby was a narcissist. The circus took attention away from her.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 7, 2022 2:30 AM |
Baby was not my hero.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 7, 2022 2:41 AM |
Baby really lost her shit when there was a parade in town.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 7, 2022 4:05 AM |
Baby's mother should give me a call.
Sounds like baby is a spoiled brat. Perhaps we can strive for a more....permanent solution to baby's emotional outbursts.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 7, 2022 4:08 AM |
To me, Baby always seemed rather…limited.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 7, 2022 4:48 AM |
Because she was a CRY Baby. Get it?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 7, 2022 6:12 AM |
The Lyrics were written by Carole Bayer Sager reflecting on her Colleague Peter Allen's own frame of mind in life…."He Just Kept Everything Inside...His Personal Philosophy Was 'Don't Show Anyone You're Crying'." Bernadette Peters, who toured with Allen in 1989, stated that Allen told her that "His Mother Taught Him To Always Put Your Best Face On" in response to Allen's father Dying by Suicide when Allen was 14 years old.] The references to "baby" in the Song refer to Allen's Younger Sister Inner Guarded Feeling as well.
Similarly, the Notorious Harvey Phillip Spector Famous American Record Producer, Musician, And Songwriter did the same after his Father Committed Suicide. In April 1949, Spector's Father committed Suicide and on his gravestone were inscribed the words "Ben Spector. Father. Husband. To Know Him Was To Love Him"
Phil having learned to Play Guitar Wrote the Lyrics in his First Record Release, that was "To Know Him Is to Love Him!"

R51 Almost none of those words needed to be capitalized. Is English your second language?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 7, 2022 2:17 PM |
I always felt Melissa Manchester was just chasing that other MM, Maureen MacGovern with her soundtrack songs. Maureen did sinking luxury liners and mixed use luxury skyscrapers on fire, Melissa did blind skater girls and disfigured poor girls. And neither of them had the common sense to record the biggest movie theme song of all time leaving it to the nepotistic little bitch Debbie Boone.

One Christmas in the late 1970s I received as a present, one of the most beloved gifts I ever got, a Panasonic clock radio, the kind that had the numbers that flip down as they changed. What was so remarkable about this was it had the feature of wake to music, and the song would go from silence to incrementally getting louder. It was a god send, as the harsh alarm would always jar me too much, but with this feature I would slowly glide to wakefulness and it usually put me in a good mood.
There are only two times I actually remember waking up to it and a particular song. Once was this song on a very stormy morning in March with the wind and rain splashing against my window. I was filled with dread thinking about having to go out and stand in the rain at the bus stop and was filled with melancholy equal to the song. The other was waking to John Lennon's Imagine and being filled with dread and knowing something bad had happened even before it was announced after the song played. I’ve always assumed that it had been announced before the song started, but it was when the alarm had just started and was at its lowest volume and I wasn’t consciously awake yet. But it had some how seeped into my mind and I knew.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 7, 2022 3:24 PM |
Damn, that sounds like a sweet radio. Mine wasn't as good, but I remember the alarm perfectly syncing with "You Gotta Be" by Des'ree.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 7, 2022 6:01 PM |
[quote] I always thought it was Bette Midler singing this song.
Fuck you, you whore! MM wasn't fit to be my backup singer!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 7, 2022 6:06 PM |
That sounds wonderful, r54. I had a great similar Sony model that didn't have that feature but it had a choice of five nature sounds you could choose from to play for an hour before shutting off and hour before the alarm went off. I have severe tinnitus and the white noise effect was such a help.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 7, 2022 6:14 PM |
This is the best known version in the UK. It was quite a big hit for Ellie Brooks.

This was the clock radio, it was pre digital and had flip numbers. Maybe it’s my rosebud?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 7, 2022 7:41 PM |
R54/60, we've all seen your "rosebud", and it's a lot more stretched out than that!
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 7, 2022 11:28 PM |
I'm pretty sure I had that cock too.
