I love Amanda, but she is always the same in every role.
Then again, so is Lawrence.

Amanda Seyfried has got the weird, fake voice down that Holmes used.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 3, 2022 12:28 PM |
The attitude of the Hulu series seems similar to that of Netflix’s Inventing Anna, in both cases proven criminals are recast as victims of sexism.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 3, 2022 12:35 PM |
I can see Seyfried getting an Emmy nod.

by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 3, 2022 4:56 PM |
Amanda Seyfriend is the better actress and a far more appealing screen presence than Jennifer Lawrence, who I have never found pretty, talented, or charismatic.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 4, 2022 12:55 AM |
r5 and the only person to blame for that is Elizabeth. She chose to get knocked up thinking it would result in a more lenient punishment. There are poor, drug addicted, mentally ill women giving birth in prison everyday while being cuff to their bed and not allowed to actually hold their baby afterward. The justice system is doing far worse to far less fortunate mothers and kids.

by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 4, 2022 5:41 AM |
it's like Joe Exotic/Tiger King, there can only be one spotlight, the first one to air gets the spot!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 4, 2022 5:45 AM |
JLaw was at her best playing an Ozarks hillbilly teen. It went all downhill after that...
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 4, 2022 5:46 AM |
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, especially now since “Don’t Look Up” has come and gone…
She hasn’t done anything noteworthy since Harvey went to prison. She was like the last person Harvey hyped up and since #MeToo, her career has stalled.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 4, 2022 6:09 AM |
Both Seyfried and Lawrence are overrated, privileged white women. There's no real need to argue over who sucks less.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 4, 2022 6:30 AM |
Jlaw is a fat Weinstein fucking whore.
Seyfried is the better actress.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 4, 2022 6:33 AM |
R24 clearly doesn't know much about Amanda.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 4, 2022 7:13 AM |
The only thunder coming from Lawrence these days is from her thighs.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 4, 2022 7:21 AM |
I thought Jennifer Lawrence was the weak link of Don’t Look Up.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 4, 2022 1:08 PM |
I think getting involved with Darren Aronofosky hampered her career just as much as her association with Weinstein. I personally liked "Mother!" but it turned a lot of people off to her.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 5, 2022 8:50 AM |
The interesting thing about the Theranos saga is how many scientists and experts knew it was bullshit from the beginning. I wonder how many people refrained from speaking out publicly because they did not want to be dismissed as jealous of the brilliant young wunderkind. Anyway the film might be ok but there has been too much market saturation as of late . Just the same stories being told again and again.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 5, 2022 9:08 AM |
Can't wait to watch this.
But of all the cool titles they could have come up (Blood Hype for one), they chose... The Dropout???
When someone thinks of Holmes, the first thing that comes to mind is certainly not that she dropped out of fucking college.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 5, 2022 9:39 AM |
Hmmmm. No. Amanda is a B-grade actress with low energy and charisma. Besides she looks too short and too old for the role.
If it were Emma Stone, yes, she would steal JLaw's thunder. Her eyes and her voice would be so perfect for the role.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 5, 2022 10:25 AM |
Amanda Seyfried is much better than I expected.
Naveen Andrews with a pot belly is still hot as hell.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 5, 2022 11:26 AM |
That’s the thing with the (understandable) Hollywood thing of casting better looking actors than the real life counterparts.
Sunny Balwani and Elizabeth Holmes were, respectively, goofy-looking and young, blonde and goofy-looking.
Even with layers of makeup and clothing, Amanda Seyfried and Naveen Andrews are both attractive and sexy people, so when you see them romantically involved it diminishes how freaky their attraction and age gap was in real life.

I am an Amanda fan and she's doing fine in the role however, I wish they hadn't chosen her for the role. She's far far too pretty and delicate looking and I fear she looks exactly like Holmes THINKS she looks and Holmes doesn't deserve that ego boost.

I've watched the first 3 episodes of the Amanda Seyfried series and she does a great job. My only complaint is that this series only touches on DEAD investors and board members, at least so far. R52 Yes. Amanda looks like a fairy tale princess while Holmes comes across as an adult Tracy Flick nightmare. Maybe the glaucoma eyed old farts who gave her money saw her as Amanda Seyfried? To be fair they were also exceedingly generous with Sunny. I mean Google the guy, he must be very flattered they cast Naveen Andrews haha.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 6, 2022 6:47 AM |
I just watched the first three episodes and I thought Seyfried was really good. The beginnings of the transformation into Homes’s “man-voice” are disturbing scenes. She sounds A LOT like the real woman.
I see an Emmy nod in her future for this. Naveen is also excellent as well as the Asian actor playing Edmund who gives a heartbreaking performance.

I came here to say this. They should have also used a wig on her, instead of trying to make her naturally smooth hair look like the frizzy flyaway rats nest that was Theranos' hair.
Agree with the poster upthread who said that Emma Stone was a shoe-in looks and voice wise. She should have gotten this part; at 33 she still could've pulled it off.

by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 7, 2022 1:05 PM |
I like Amanda but she can’t cross over into becoming an actress of stature. It feels like she just throws everything at the wall hoping something sticks. Doesn’t really seem to age, either. The Oscar nomination was cool and she was a breath of fresh air but that thing was crushingly boring and uninteresting. You were dying for 5mins of this charming woman here or there. I do hope she keeps trying and plays some great parts sometime. Remember the Deep Throat film that did nothing for her or the part in First Reform where she got none of the major acclaim Hawke did, or the Twin Peaks episodes?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 7, 2022 1:09 PM |
R62 well, the woke naziis have created an atmosphere where only bad white people can be depicted on screen, while all black girls are smart, sassy, and heroic! Oh, but don’t make them too black. Zendaya “black” will do!!

by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 10, 2022 4:57 PM |
R73 the real Holmes was notorious for using a fake deep voice while speaking to investors. That's what Seyfried is imitating.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 10, 2022 10:39 PM |
Holmes' voice kind of reminds me of Ana Gasteyer's impersonation of Martha Stewart on SNL.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 11, 2022 12:48 AM |
Holme'ss deep voice was so weird sounding. I don't know anyone who would hear that voice and go "now THAT'S a person with POWER!".
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 11, 2022 12:51 AM |
Today's episode was hilarious, but I'm not sure how intentional that was. All these men she and Sunny tricked and swindled and bulldozed over are just so pathetic. You can count on one hand the number of people depicted so far as having any sense.

^ Well, they are just corporate whores. The real travesty are the medical and science people who let this fraud go on for so long because no one was willing to say prove this box does what you say it can do.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 11, 2022 1:48 AM |
Her targets were all immensely self important and powerful geezers who wanted one last taste of glory. They wanted to be the guys who immediately recognized this ( fake) machines and Elizabeth's potential. Another issue is that as much as Americans laud technology and inventiveness most are quite stupid and uninformed when it comes to science.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 11, 2022 1:52 AM |
R81 You're assuming that in a society that falls to their knees for " corporate whores" those scientists would have been listened to rather than ignored and jeered at. And there were quite a few brave scientists and industry workers who did speak out and fight back at great cost and risk to themselves. One, an older man, even committed suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 11, 2022 1:55 AM |
The company relied on the reputations of people like Channing Robertson, Ian Gibbons, and Edmund Ku to maintain a veneer of respectability. None of these men publicly spoke out despite knowing (or should have known) the device was bunk and putting people's lives at risk. Ian Gibbons attempted suicide before he was scheduled to testify AGAINST the company. He let Holmes and Balwani walk all over him and even demote him rather than expose them.
And yes, it was questioning scientists who ultimately helped take the company down. But Tyler Schultz was the only one who did it from the inside. And when his concerns were dismissed by his corporate whore grandfather, he quit, went to an investigative reporter with his concerns, and filed a complaint in NYS against the company.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 11, 2022 2:28 AM |
[quote]Henry Kissinger, George Schultz, James Mattis! These men basically ran this country and they were all suckered by Elizabeth and Sunny. Yikes.
Calling these guys 'corporate whores' is a good description of their later years but before assuming that title, they could more accurately be described as 'political whores'. They had tremendous political muscle and sway over the US. It was only afterwards that they shilled for corporations, mostly defense contractors, and parlayed their reputations into big money. I think they were all smitten by Elizabeth's attention and adulation; she made them feel like powerful young MEN again.
