The attitude of the Hulu series seems similar to that of Netflix’s Inventing Anna, in both cases proven criminals are recast as victims of sexism.

The interesting thing about the Theranos saga is how many scientists and experts knew it was bullshit from the beginning. Sunny Balwani and Elizabeth Holmes were, respectively, goofy-looking and young, blonde and goofy-looking.

Even with layers of makeup and clothing, Amanda Seyfried and Naveen Andrews are both attractive and sexy people, so when you see them romantically involved it diminishes how freaky their attraction and age gap was in real life.

I would like the Hulu show more if it were edgier and/or campier.

I've watched the first 3 episodes of the Amanda Seyfried series and she does a great job. My only complaint is that this series only touches on DEAD investors and board members, at least so far. Agree with the poster upthread who said that Emma Stone was a shoe-in looks and voice wise. She should have gotten this part; at 33 she still could've pulled it off.

Emma Stone is kind of a “big” and sassy an actor. I think she may have been too SNL in the role.

Holmes' voice kind of reminds me of Ana Gasteyer's impersonation of Martha Stewart on SNL.

Holme'ss deep voice was so weird sounding. I don't know anyone who would hear that voice and go "now THAT'S a person with POWER!".

Today's episode was hilarious, but I'm not sure how intentional that was. All these men she and Sunny tricked and swindled and bulldozed over are just so pathetic. You can count on one hand the number of people depicted so far as having any sense.

This is very well written and Amanda is excellent in it. Can't wait to see the next episode. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

Her targets were all immensely self important and powerful geezers who wanted one last taste of glory. They wanted to be the guys who immediately recognized this ( fake) machines and Elizabeth's potential. Another issue is that as much as Americans laud technology and inventiveness most are quite stupid and uninformed when it comes to science.

And there were quite a few brave scientists and industry workers who did speak out and fight back at great cost and risk to themselves. One, an older man, even committed suicide.

The company relied on the reputations of people like Channing Robertson, Ian Gibbons, and Edmund Ku to maintain a veneer of respectability. None of these men publicly spoke out despite knowing (or should have known) the device was bunk and putting people's lives at risk. Ian Gibbons attempted suicide before he was scheduled to testify AGAINST the company. He let Holmes and Balwani walk all over him and even demote him rather than expose them.

And yes, it was questioning scientists who ultimately helped take the company down. But Tyler Schultz was the only one who did it from the inside. And when his concerns were dismissed by his corporate whore grandfather, he quit, went to an investigative reporter with his concerns, and filed a complaint in NYS against the company.

Calling these guys 'corporate whores' is a good description of their later years but before assuming that title, they could more accurately be described as 'political whores'. They had tremendous political muscle and sway over the US. It was only afterwards that they shilled for corporations, mostly defense contractors, and parlayed their reputations into big money. I think they were all smitten by Elizabeth's attention and adulation; she made them feel like powerful young MEN again.
