by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 2, 2022 7:17 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 2, 2022 7:18 PM |
And DeSantis is considered a serious contender as a presidential candidate? What gravitas he displays! If he throws a hissy fit at a bunch of teenagers or twenty year olds, imagine how serious he'll handle Putin.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 2, 2022 7:20 PM |
Poor kids.
They are getting so many fucking mixed messages from the "authorities."
Put your mask on! Take your mask off! You need your masks to be safe! You don't need your masks, because it's Covid theater!!
It's really frustrating to watch (as an adult).
Most of these kids are only trying to do what they're told, but what they're being told is all over the fucking place.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 2, 2022 7:21 PM |
Those kids were more mature than DeathSantis they just stood there stoically ignoring him
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 2, 2022 7:25 PM |

He's such an asshat.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 2, 2022 7:28 PM |
We Fl dems absolutely hate the man but the trumpeters will vote for him again and he will most likely get a second term...unless they want him for president.. Oy!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 2, 2022 7:29 PM |
I’d keep mine on just to keep from smelling his decaying corpse breath.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 2, 2022 7:31 PM |
What a total dick move. He's a hot headed piece of shit.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 2, 2022 7:35 PM |
I’m terrified that this piece of shit will be the next president. His trash supporters think he’s a god.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 2, 2022 7:38 PM |
From what we could see, the boys folded under the pressure and removed their masks; however, the young Black girl "stood her ground" and remained masked.
Kudos, sister girl!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 2, 2022 7:39 PM |
Yes! Hooray for the sister. I would have left my mask on as well.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 2, 2022 7:43 PM |
I have that image of Harvey Weinstein eating candy he spilled on the movie theater floor
I think DeSantis would do the same
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 2, 2022 7:53 PM |
Or you remember when Roberta’s husband in Desperately Seeking Susan wouldn’t stop eating when she went missing
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 2, 2022 7:53 PM |
I’m surprised that on DL people would think that was a fit. There’s been plenty of threads on DL through the years showing what a fit looks like. This isn’t one of them.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 2, 2022 7:55 PM |
People clinging to their masks at this point are utter jokes .
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 2, 2022 8:02 PM |
And if one of those kids had lung issues, r18? Or autoimmune issues? I agree with you, by and large, but it's been a traumatic two years. Let everyone come to that moment on their own. They don't need Governor Asshole ordering them around for the sake of a fucking photo op.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 2, 2022 8:12 PM |
I don't know why but I imagine him having huge, blown-out skid marks in all of his underwear. I also suspect he smells like Corn Nuts and cheap after shave.

That’s what DeSantis is like
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 2, 2022 8:26 PM |
I thought the whole mask mandate was taking away peoples choice and freedom? So people who choose to wear masks can’t? It just makes no sense but I guess it’s not supposed to.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 2, 2022 8:29 PM |
Watch it, now conservative anti maskers are going to start attacking people for wearing masks. They have gotten their cue from DeSantis and it will begin. They are too stupid to realize that some people are immo-compromised and need to protect themselves from more than just Covid.

'Democrats are being battered by poll after poll showing that President Biden’s approval rating is hovering around 40 percent, and lawmakers say COVID-19 fatigue is a major factor behind why so many voters are dissatisfied with the direction of the country.
'Hardly any Democratic senators wore their masks on the House floor Tuesday night when the nation tuned in to watch Biden’s first State of the Union address, one of the biggest prime-time political events before November’s midterm elections.
'Brian Monahan, the Capitol’s attending physician, announced in a memo circulated before the State of the Union address that people would no longer be required to wear masks in the House chamber or elsewhere around the Capitol complex. '

by Anonymous | reply 118 | March 3, 2022 11:59 AM |
This thread is insanity. He didn't attack the kids or threaten them. Are you just responding without watching the video? If any of you consider that attacking and threatening, you have serious problems. In a perfect world, he probably should have just said nothing but he was probably pissed at what the photo was going to look like since he has taken such a hard stance against masking.
This is why we can't have sane political discourse anymore more both sides just jump to level 10.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 3, 2022 12:09 PM |

If R119 saw Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi berating a group of students for NOT wearing masks his take on this would be completely different, what he misses is that Biden or Pelosi would never do that because they are decent people, something his heroes are not.

Wearing a mask has been successfully branded by the GOP as signalling leftish views. It is a sign that one is not a worshipper at the psychopathic shrine of Mango Mussolini. That is unacceptable and practically treason so anyone masked must be scorned or preferably aggressively confronted. That’s the Republican view. That’s what prompts this sort of unacceptable behavior.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | March 3, 2022 1:55 PM |
I really love the loser tactic that R119 tried to pull.
Everyone is complaining that DeStantis acted like a dick to some kids. No one claimed he attacked or threatened them.
But expecting the Governor to not be a dick to kids is reasonable. So R119, made it sound like the said something harsher, so he could be outraged.
That makes him feel good (I guess).
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 3, 2022 2:00 PM |
DeSantis is an authority figure, THE ultimate authority figure in Florida. I can't imagine how intimidated those high school students must have felt when he got in their face, pointed his finger at them and put them on the spot like that for wearing a mask that their parents probably instructed them to do. It's bad enough to be bullied by a fellow classmate, but this was the Governor! He is vile and shameless.
You can bet he bullied and pushed around all the smaller kids when he was in high school.
You can tell that he felt like a big man for berating those kids that were standing behind him to represent their school. This is a moment none of them will forget, and not in a good way.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | March 3, 2022 2:15 PM |
DeSantis comes off as nasty but not strong, because not all the kids obeyed him. I think that makes him look like a loser politically. He didn't intimidate the kids because most looked like they were smirking or wanted to smirk behind his back.

Could you IMAGINE how Fox and the larger Murdoch Universe (and, frankly the DL) would react if Kamala Harris was huffy and snippy to a bunch of teenagers for not masking up? Other people will use more favorable terms than that to describe his demeanor, but either way, it could benefit him. People don’t want any candidate who is just an affable old man. They want someone who will fight hard for the causes he or she runs on.

For a lot of years, the Rs succeeded when they had a happy, affable guy selling their shitty policies and horribly unpopular plans.
What Trump did is show you could succeed when your personality is as horrible, hateful and disliked as everything Republicans stand for.
I'm not sure DeSantis has that.

It's so weird to me that the Right is panicked that they keep losing and that the Left is vicious and remorseless in its cheating and its victories. That's why, they say, they need an unpleasant prick to lead them, because they are so beleaguered that they need a FIGHTER.
Currently, the Right controls:
1. The Federal Judiciary
2. Banks
3. The oil and gas industry
4. Law enforcement
5. the most popular cable news network
6. the largest chain of local TV stations
7. most state governments
8. will likely control the House and the Senate in 2023
9. the vast majority of religious institutions in the US
10. academia in the religion-based area (Georgetown, Pepperdine, Liberty U, BC, Notre Dame)
The only thing they don't utterly dominate is Hollywood (which isn't as liberal as they think) and some neighborhoods in major cities. And they shit themselves over that.

r143, the mood of the electorate is very different now compared to the 80s, in both parties. The voters on both sides want their leaders to do whatever it takes to enact their agenda and be as ruthless as necessary. You saw how people called for Sinema and Manchin to be assassinated for getting in the way of the BBB, or at least thrown out of the caucus. It’s vicious out there and that’s what people, especially the majority on DL, want.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | March 3, 2022 5:50 PM |
R155 is grasping at bullshit. There isn't a Democrat with any power or any following who is as openly angry and contentious and insane as the lowest level Rep congressman.
The most assertive Dem I can think of is DL's anti-girlfriends AOC and Ilhan Omar and they are personally rather sweet people and take care to not insult whole swathes of the country, whole cities, whole areas.
Republicans aren't like that at all. Presidents, senators, congressman, governors. They take pride in being mean, unpleasant and rude to people who can't fight back and their morally degenerate base love them for it.

The point isn't whether or not masks are "theatre," it's that he's the fucking governor and he can't control himself in front of a group of kids. The "what the hell is wrong with him" looks on their faces as they take off their masks are the looks of kids who realize they're more grown up than the tantrum-throwing brat in front of them (talk about theatre). It's embarrassing.
There's also the fact that Republicans like DeSantis have spent the last two years ridiculing and opposing any attempt to stop the spread of this disease apart from taking Ivermectin and monoclonal antibodies. Mask mandates were the right thing to do when we didn't know what the fuck this was. We're 2 years in now, we know what works and doesn't work. I think masking should be a personal choice. We're learned that wearing gloves wasn't effect. We learned that plexiglass wasn't effective. We've seen conflicting data about masks. I think the only thing that truly worked was staying at home and.or social distancing.

I mean yeah, I'm triple vaxxed and the numbers are going down. I feel fairly safe not wearing a mask at this point. But there was a new variant raging just a little over a month ago. I don't expect everyone to follow the same timetable. And wearing a mask is a minor, harmless thing. It's as stupid to get enraged at the sight of one as it is to throw a fit every time you see someone without one. It's been a grueling two years. Give people time to adjust and adapt.
Honestly though, this was probably 75% about DeSantis performing for his lunkhead base. Theatre.

One million SILLY Americans dead of covid and six million worldwide mean nothing to conservatives. They've succeeded in opposing masks and vaccines and have helped create the variants that we will now live, and die with, permanently. The danger is still there, but the selfish idiot public has decided they don't care anymore, and that disease and death are just fine with them. Just muddy the waters and make shit acceptable. They've done the same with abortion rights. A woman's right to choose is gone. That's been normalized now too. I don't think I fully realized that DeSantis wrote a book...and he was always this much of a whiny, ahistorical, lying, hateful asshole
[quote] But, more important, the book sucks because parts of it are pretty offensive to black people, Muslims, and women. DeSantis' book includes justifications excusing the legalization of slavery in the U.S. Constitution, as well as repeated complaints about policies designed to protect women from rape and domestic violence.
[quote] DeSantis also incorrectly claims in the book that the Three-Fifths Compromise — the heinous law that counted black people as three-fifths of a human for purposes of representation in Congress — "benefited anti-slavery states." This is simply inaccurate: Blacks at the time could not vote, but the provision gave slave-holding states extra representatives in Congress.
[...]
[quote] In addition to relaying his thoughts on slavery, DeSantis' treatise includes a ton of other upsetting parts. Most notable, DeSantis repeatedly rails against laws designed to protect women and uphold gender equality. Specifically, he repeatedly attacks Obama for supporting the United Nations' Convention on the Eradication of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
[quote] He also writes that he opposes UN protections for individuals with disabilities. And elsewhere in the book, he delves into pure anti-Muslim racism by arguing repeatedly that President Obama capitulated to Muslim nations. DeSantis accuses him of repeatedly "showcasing his father’s Muslim roots and his middle name of 'Hussein'" to look good to Middle Eastern countries.
[quote] As American Bridge already noted, the book is also chock full of inaccuracies. Most of the lies relate to Obama, including a false claim he was the "only president" to remove the words "endowed by their Creator" when talking about Americans' "inalienable rights." In reality, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan did the same.
[quote] But don't worry, folks: DeSantis, a man who has repeatedly hung out with virulent Islamophobes, racists, and anti-LGBTQ bigots, is definitely a good guy, because his book also quotes Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

Is this a glass half full/half empty kind of thing? The Three-Fifths Compromise prevented slave states from counting the total number of slaves, which was the alternative, in determining the number of representatives each of those states would have. Frederick Douglass said, “It is a downright disability laid upon the slaveholding States; one which deprives those States of two-fifths of their natural basis of representation.”
