DARREN CRISS BROTHER is DEAD TO ME!!!

Darren Criss' older brother, Charles Criss, has died by suicide -- and his sibling is sending out a powerful message about mental health in the wake of such a tragedy.

The actor revealed the sad news Wednesday in a social media post, throwing up a bunch of photos of his bro, as well as a lengthy statement about what had happened ... and what the takeaway is for him as a result.

Charles -- who Darren refers to as Chuck -- took his own life sometime last month ... although the exact circumstances are unclear.

What is clear, however, is how much thought Darren put into breaking this to the public -- because his note here is incredibly powerful and well worth a read in full.

To sum it up, he says that Chuck -- with whom Darren actually started a band -- had apparently suffered from depression ... something DC says he and his family were somewhat aware of, but not to the extent they thought it would ever lead to this.

He says his brother lost sight to the darkness -- despite the fact he was so very loved -- and also takes a moment to acknowledge ... this is something that cannot be discussed in just a sentence or two, going on to acknowledge the complexities of mental health that any one individual may be going through ... even if everything looks okay from the outside.

Darren writes, "There is simply no sense, nay, compassion or decency, to try to find blame in any direction other than the inner most tragedy of an untreated illness," going on to add ... "Which is why it is paramount for me to remind anyone reading this that may be feeling consumed by any similar kind of darkness -- that there is absolutely no shame in feeling shame, and furthermore, nothing wrong whatsoever with seeking help."

He also makes sure to hit this point home ... that Chuck's life is not defined by his suicide, and that it was so much more than just that -- acknowledging the great things he contributed to this world, including three young children that he leaves behind.

Darren's brother was just 36. RIP

What a powerful and touching message. How heartbreaking for him and his loved ones. My condolences and sympathy to his loved ones.

by Anonymousreply 1March 2, 2022 7:13 PM

When it comes to suicide, it's always tragic, I just hope he wasn't found by someone who loved him. That just seems like an extra level of cruelty when people kill themselves in the home

by Anonymousreply 2March 2, 2022 7:13 PM

Omg, that's so sad.

I'm not usually frau-ish about these kinds of things, but Darren seemed really close to his brother.

I can't imagine losing someone that way.

I feel bad for him.

by Anonymousreply 3March 2, 2022 7:17 PM

I am always bummed out when the DETAILS of the suicide are not revealed. We have a right to know how people off themselves. You cannot just drop the "suicide bomb" and then ask for privacy. Was it hanging? Dope? A gun? DETAILS please!!

by Anonymousreply 4March 2, 2022 7:21 PM

That's incredibly messed up. I just hope he and his family don't blame themselves for this. That's usually the first, and understandable, response to these tragedies. In reality, there's nothing you can do in these situations. I think that's what makes it so much worse...the powerlessness of it all. :(

by Anonymousreply 5March 2, 2022 7:23 PM

I wonder if there had been signs but Darren was so self-absorbed he missed them.

Or if Darren just needed so much attention that his brother saw no other way out.

My first partner (we were together 8 years) committed suicide. A .38 to the temple is very effective. We were both at home. Yes, I was there when it happened. The fact I was there created some issues re: police investigation (I had to hire an attorney). But, the bottom line is I knew he was hurting deeply, emotionally. I tried to encourage him to get help, but he refused.

Based on my experience, there are a lot of reasons someone may believe that death is their best option. Once they have convinced themselves of that idea, there is not much that will change it.

by Anonymousreply 10March 2, 2022 7:33 PM

And he's not going to be able to meet his new niece or nephew. :(

Well this sure is a warm and fuzzy feel-good thread right outta the gate.

by Anonymousreply 12March 2, 2022 7:38 PM

R2- It really is. My cousin shot himself in the head. His mother walked into the room just as he pulled the trigger.

by Anonymousreply 13March 2, 2022 7:40 PM

R9-Bottom feeders. Mama Pimps little bitches.

by Anonymousreply 14March 2, 2022 7:42 PM

And this is news! Fuck off, OP. Scuzzbucket.

by Anonymousreply 15March 2, 2022 7:42 PM

R13 Christ that's brutal.

My great uncle got himself a steak dinner, then a haircut, then parked his car in front of the police station and ate his pistol. Still tragic and messy, but beats traumatizing your family with your body.

by Anonymousreply 16March 2, 2022 7:43 PM

R11 I think its a girl. Photos of the baby shower they had there was pink everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 17March 2, 2022 7:43 PM

“Do we know whether he died of natural causes?”

by Anonymousreply 18March 2, 2022 7:46 PM

R16- I'm so sorry. Yes, not to be gruesome, but the damage from a GSW to the head is unimaginable. We hired professional cleaners so she was spared from dealing with cleaning and repairing the damage to the room. She has never been the same. We basically lost both of them that day.

by Anonymousreply 19March 2, 2022 7:51 PM

It was before I was born, but I always thought it was somewhat considerate that he did it that way. When you see those ghastly stories of "kids come home from school to find dad hanging from a beam in the basement", I'm just like...fucking Christ.

by Anonymousreply 20March 2, 2022 7:55 PM

playlist?stuff? fine ass

anybody?

by Anonymousreply 21March 2, 2022 8:14 PM

[quote]My great uncle got himself a steak dinner, then a haircut, then parked his car in front of the police station and ate his pistol.

Haircut THAT bad, huh?

by Anonymousreply 22March 2, 2022 8:35 PM

R20- Totally agree, how unnecessarily traumatic for them. I am fine now, but I have thought about suicide. ( Mostly during the clown years) I would never do that to anyone. I would go deep into the woods and years later someone might find my bleached bones. I find it unacceptable that people with terminal illness have no pain free and dignified option to end their pain, but suicide from depression and mental illness is always so heartbreaking and you always wish they had reached out for help. The state of our non-existent mental health services for all people is shameful.

The Glee curse continues....

by Anonymousreply 24March 2, 2022 8:53 PM

[quote]nay

Oh, girl.

by Anonymousreply 25March 2, 2022 8:59 PM

Omg, that is disturbing. How many are left?

by Anonymousreply 26March 2, 2022 9:07 PM

You don’t want loved ones to find the body, but you also don’t want them not knowing what happened to you. The police station was a good idea. Better cops who have probably seen their share of dead bodies than the hotel maid.

by Anonymousreply 27March 2, 2022 9:15 PM

Darren needs to write a book about how the suicide was really all about him. Get that cash!

by Anonymousreply 28March 2, 2022 9:17 PM

r19 if someone told you a family member shot themselves in the head and his friends volunteered to clean up what would that say to you? That he had some really good friends?

by Anonymousreply 29March 2, 2022 9:21 PM

Turkey baster Darren? Right?

by Anonymousreply 30March 2, 2022 9:24 PM

People who commit suicide feel like they are ready to start over. People have the right to end their current lives however and whenever they feel like!! Not wanting to be in your current body doesn’t make you mentally insane or so says the pro trans brigade!

by Anonymousreply 31March 2, 2022 9:25 PM

R29- We immediately hired professional cleaners to spare everyone the trauma of that. I mean, sorry to be so morbid but his brain matter was on the walls and ceiling. No one should have to see that.

by Anonymousreply 32March 2, 2022 9:28 PM

His brother was cuter than Darren, but what was he,5'3 ? I do feel bad for him, though I never liked him ,not even on Glee. Something seems so phony about him,and Im not talking about the obvious gayness either.

by Anonymousreply 33March 2, 2022 9:43 PM

Who wrote this horseshit? Oh, TMZ. No wonder it reads like someone illiterate wrote it.

by Anonymousreply 34March 2, 2022 9:50 PM

Often, the guys who work at the coroner’s office are open to picking up some off-the-clock cash by cleaning the scene for you.

by Anonymousreply 35March 2, 2022 9:51 PM

They actually wrote “DC”? WTF? Is this an article or a tweet?

by Anonymousreply 36March 2, 2022 9:51 PM

[quote] I'm so sorry. Yes, not to be gruesome, but the damage from a GSW to the head

There’s no such thing as GSW, fatass. Write properly.

by Anonymousreply 37March 2, 2022 9:52 PM

How is that "only straight roles" working out for him?

by Anonymousreply 38March 2, 2022 9:54 PM

The closet kills!

by Anonymousreply 39March 2, 2022 10:23 PM

I feel bad for DC. He lost several friends on Glee at such young ages & now this.

by Anonymousreply 40March 2, 2022 10:40 PM

He and his brother were close

by Anonymousreply 41March 2, 2022 10:51 PM

The husbear's cousin called out to his mother. As she entered the room he slit his throat from ear to ear. Blood shot up to the ceiling and on to the walls. He really loathed that bitch.

by Anonymousreply 42March 2, 2022 10:56 PM

The brother was in Darrens shitty band. Video = straight Darren is with a "special guest star" and very bloated Adam Lambert. Maybe the brother saw how hideous this video turned out and decided to end it all?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 43March 3, 2022 2:04 AM

Adam Lambert is the exact reason people like Darren Cris (and Shemar Moore) stay so deeply closeted. He was good looking, immensely talented and should have been much bigger. Im glad he lived his truth ,but it cost him a lot of money. He should have pulled a Ricky Martin and got all the money THEN said "Im gay"

by Anonymousreply 44March 3, 2022 2:11 AM

He had 3 young children...When a person has a parent who has committed suicide, they are at higher risk of committing suicide.

by Anonymousreply 45March 3, 2022 2:13 AM

My impish little daughter committed suicide. You just manage, somehow, to carry on.

And find someone else for your sister act.

by Anonymousreply 46March 3, 2022 2:26 AM

I've posted on suicide threads before; I lost my best friend to suicide over three years ago. I still think about him all the time. I live in LA and lived here for decades before I found a decent person. He was so caring.

He cared so much that he couldn't live here. Never had a bud like him before - fear I never will again.

Someone recently asked me what I would have done if I'd known he was in so much pain. I said I would have loved him more.

by Anonymousreply 47March 3, 2022 2:28 AM

He had me until he said, “nay” in his statement. I hate DC and wherever he is on the spectrum of gay bating - gay for casting - or deeply closeted. Such a garbage person, talent aside.

That said completing suicide is a tragic end especially those who survive the act. A group of close male friends lost their “alpha” friend to suicide several years ago, the mourning, survivors guilt and general aftermath continues 5 years later. He found a way out of his problems but left decimation in his wake.

by Anonymousreply 48March 3, 2022 2:32 AM

That's one way to get people to pay attention to you and maybe fork out for an overpriced ticket to the show you're in that opens in a couple of weeks on Broadway.

by Anonymousreply 49March 3, 2022 2:59 AM

[quote]What is clear, however, is how much thought Darren put into breaking this to the public -- because his note here is incredibly powerful and well worth a read in full.

An excerpt:

"Me me me me me me me. Doodah. Doodah.

"Me me me me me me me. All the doodah day.

"I'll miss him!"

by Anonymousreply 50March 3, 2022 3:04 AM

R49 yes I'm sure that's the only reason he posted it.

by Anonymousreply 51March 3, 2022 3:05 AM

Milk it. Milk it!

Atta boy!

Wring every last bit of press and attention you can out of it.

I'm so proud.

by Anonymousreply 55March 3, 2022 12:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 56March 3, 2022 12:55 PM

He knew Putin was nuke us all anyway in a few months, so he took the initiative.

by Anonymousreply 57March 3, 2022 3:26 PM

I get depression and suicide. I just wish people like that would not have kids. Why do we tell people having kids is the default option. The horror of the kids lives every day for the next 80 years - never had to happen.

by Anonymousreply 58March 3, 2022 3:52 PM

He has young kids too. I think the youngest is around 3.

by Anonymousreply 59March 3, 2022 4:03 PM

Why is every time a celebrity talk or respond about something its needs to be "powerful" or in this case "incredibly powerful" ?

by Anonymousreply 60March 3, 2022 4:20 PM

Because he's a CELEBRITY r60, and our stupid shitty culture worships the ground they walk on.

I'm not a fan of either of them, but that's just an awful thing to say. Even for Datalounge. You don't sound as if you enjoy good mental health.

People who commit suicide are the most selfish people on earth.

by Anonymousreply 68March 5, 2022 10:31 AM

Its too simple to explain that suicidal people are in insufferable psychic pain. (Or physical pain for those who kill themselves for that.) Some, sure. This guy could have been hopeless. Also spineless and self-centered. Maybe a misanthrope. Maybe humiliated or ashamed. Darren Criss's "powerful statement" is superficial and seems like a whitewash full of boilerplate spiritual and psychological blathering.

by Anonymousreply 69March 5, 2022 11:03 AM

[quote]People who commit suicide are the most selfish people on earth.

by Anonymousreply 70March 5, 2022 11:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 71March 5, 2022 11:33 AM

LUCKY!

by Anonymousreply 72March 5, 2022 11:33 AM

It's hard to think that leaving his small children wouldnt have stopped him from taking his life. But I guess if you've reached a certain point. I've been seriously depressed before but even at my lowest I could think of a reason or more to keep going. I guess people like him cant or couldn't do that. I never reached a breaking point like that though.

by Anonymousreply 73March 5, 2022 1:29 PM

[quote]He should have pulled a Ricky Martin

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 74March 5, 2022 1:32 PM

[quote]It's hard to think that leaving his small children wouldnt have stopped him from taking his life.

Who really knows, though.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but what if he was a pedo or had those urges and couldn’t bear the thought of molesting his own kids?

Or some other horrific thoughts plaguing his brain and tormenting him towards acting upon them.

Perhaps he thought that leaving them and remaining alive elsewhere would have seemed more of a rejection than death.

Who knows what his specific struggle was and whether or not sticking around would have been better or worse for them?

by Anonymousreply 75March 5, 2022 2:15 PM

When you are seriously contemplating suicide, you literally do not think at all about those you will leave behind.

Unless it is to think that they will be better off without you.
