Audio: Kamala Harris mocked for child-like explanation of Russia-Ukraine war
Kamala Harris just took dumbing down to a whole new level.
During an appearance on the syndicated “Morning Hustle” radio program, Harris was asked by co-host Headkrack to explain the conflict “in layman’s terms for people who don’t understand what’s going on and how can this directly affect the people of the United States?”
Speaking slowly, Harris began, “So, Ukraine is a country in Europe.”
“It exists next to another country called Russia,” she continued. “Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong, and it goes against everything that we stand for.”
Conservative critics laid into the vice president on social media Tuesday for her overly simplistic explanation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with one commenter comparing it to an episode of children’s TV program “Peppa Pig.”

Why is she using all them big words? Now my head hurts.

First fact to dispute: Is Ukraine really a country in Europe? Even "Eastern Europe"?

How condescending can she get? I guess it’s probably how explained it to herself.

"Thanks, Carmella, that bigly helped me understand what Vla Daddy is doing!"

I want to support Kamala, who impressed me in the Democratic primaries (yes, it's true), but this is at a ridiculous kindergarten level. That's not what "in laymen's terms" means. Does she really think other people are this stupid?

R5 “does she really think people are this stupid?”
Have you lived in the U.S. around 2016 or after?

On the other hand, if this is a conservative talking point for the day, I don't trust it. I'll have to see if she elaborated.

Most Trump supporters need another layer - a “country is . . .”

R6, tragically, yes. But you'd think she'd make some reference to history or geopolitics in a way people could understand, which would have been the key to answering the question correctly.

Conservatives are mad because they know she's dumbing it down for their audience.

And if she explained it in a more sophisticated way, they'd bitch that she's a snooty egghead.
Who gives a fuck what those idiots think.
They're always gonna find something wrong.

I heard about that and thought she was talking to elementary school children. Yeah, for adults "Eastern Europe" would have been a better starting point. Also, maybe a little bit of history about how the USSR and how it fell apart.

As people here said during the primaries, she can't think on her feet and is tone deaf. When she veers from a script she ends up saying dumb shit.

Yes, I think she has trouble thinking on her feet. She got behind Jussie Smollet when he first said he was accosted by 2 guys in MAGA hats, had a noose put around his neck, etc. Then, his story fell apart. I saw a video of a reporter asking her what she thought, now. IMO, she had time to think about it (the details of Jussie's story started flowing in, poking holes in his story). She was dumbstruck at being questioned. She could have and should have said that she is reconsidering her position as more information comes in.

True, R16. Her very basic explanation probably helped 33% of the US population.

R11, she was fine until she said "and that's just wrong." She needed to explain that Ukraine was much like the US. The people elect their leaders and they have many freedoms. She needed to explain that the Russian leader was concerned that Ukraine wanted to continue to be like the US and other similar countries with many freedoms. She needed to mention Putin as Russia's leader is a bully. Like a bully, he attacked Ukraine to try to force its people to accept fewer freedoms including the ability to elect leaders. Ukranians do not want to be ruled by a bully so they are fighting. Other countries want to support Ukraine so they are trying to help.

She was ASKED to explain it in the simplest terms. But the conservative assholes like OP pushing this story today always leave out the rest of the audio.

Did Kamala bring in any reference to India?

"Layman's terms" doesn't mean the same thing as kindergarten level. She literally spent half the time explaining that Ukraine and Russia are two countries. Instead she could have been summarizing their long-standing conflict and what some of the factors were that led to the invasion, but no. Instead she chose to throw light on the fact that we're talking about nations rather than cars or birds or doorknobs. Thanks, Kamala. Great job. 👍

OP, she had to use simple terms to explain it to GOP simpletons like you.
r3, Republicans like yourself definitely should be talked down to at all times. You voted for a reality show clown with no political experience to be president.

[quote] Why does everyone assume she has a low IQ?
She doesn't, R19. She's very smart, but she's just extremely insecure. She would thrive in another position if it was behind the scenes.

I'm no Kamala fan but this is ridiculous. In order to win the Democratic ticket/with Dem voters, you need to be 'nice' and have 'decorum' or SJWs and mealy-mouthed 'undecideds' will shy away. I've had otherwise sane acquaintances claim that both Biden and Trump were equally crazy during the debate (he told Trump to 'shut up'! the horror!) In a sane world, Kamala would be as good a candidate as any (and Hillary would have won in 2016). You ESPECIALLY have to kiss ass in order to appeal to everybody if you're 'different' (woman, nonwhite, gay, etc.)
Trump/GOPers only have to be nice to their base, and as vile as they want to everyone else.
That being said, Kamala has bad people/interview skills. She really needs a publicist or decent team to polish up her image whether or not she runs.
