I don’t know why I keep watching this show, but I do. Some times I feel it should be called Bitter Things as Pamela Aldon rarely seems not to be in an unhappy mood and extremely unpleasant. I guess that’s a bit of what makes it so different from other fare. I was surprised to see her mock her experience on Finding Your Roots and Henry Gates Jr. in the first episode. And I’m still incredulous that she never got caught up in the Louie CK scandal since she collaborated with him.
Final Season of Better Things Just Dropped First Episodes on Hulu

I love the show. It's one of my favorites. Haven't watched the new season yet.
Yeah, she's moody. It's her thing.
As far as Louie? The guy is a creep for sure, but he's insanely talented. He's own show was out of this world good and the fact he was involved with this only proves he's a good judge of talent and content.

What happened to all the actresses playing her daughters, did they just not decide to have hair, makeup and costuming on the final season?

I'm glad she didn't get caught up in the Louis ck drama. I'm sick of this " complicit complicit" shrieking towards any woman ( funny enough never the men) who works with a guy who gets caught perving. Like they're personally responsible for their male co workers. It's Hollywood, these guys are impossible not to work with. CK was just one of the ones who got caught.

I’m sad it’s the final season. One of my favorite series ever. The New Orleans episode is classic.

It's one of my favorite shows too.

I tried to like this show but I find the two older daughters completely unlikable and, well, they're absolute cunts.
But I respect that Adlon doesn't sugarcoat the show. It's messy, just how life is.

I like it a lot but didn't like this last episode so much.

I watched the first season. The eldest daughter doesn't even look like her, she looks like she's Asian.

Who was the very freaky show runner with the nondescript gender, they made me very uncomfortable, in fact most of the season has made me uncomfortable, is that what is supposed to be going on? And everyone looks so unattractive like they just gave up on hair and makeup and told people to just roll out of bed and come in and they’ll start shooting.

I have no fucking idea what the hell this show is trying to be anymore. My only idea is that it’s all been a fever dream and they all died of Covid-19 or there was a gas main explosion and no one survived.

I love it. It tends to get a bit preachy, but it’s not the worst.
Why would she get caught up in the Louis Ck thing? SHE didn’t do anything wrong.
As far as the Asian-looking eldest daughter, I figure it’s the same kind of deal as Louie’s wife on “Louie” (the actress was black). The actress was the right person for the role?

The preachiness is precisely why I lost interest. I liked the first season or two though. It just became more and more unrelatable and rather extreme in its social messaging and agenda. I prefer agenda-free drama.

Beautiful finale.

I love her and really wanted to like this show but the her daughters are so fucking awful that I spent every episode wondering why she didn't just kill them.

I also liked the first season or two. It’s nice, gently paced, funny, well shot, and Adlon makes a good main character. But I tuned out because it became so formulaic and repetitive. The borderline undwatchable daughters act like little shrill, ungrateful pieces of shit and their mother bends over backward to their every whim. Usually with a nice little [preachy] message or ‘life lesson’ or cutesy family moment thrown in at the end.
It got tiresome, and I really found it difficult to put up with the way they treat her (and the way she just constantly accepts it and almost loves 'the struggle'). Started to feel like a tribute to that toxic brand of motherhood where it becomes someone’s entire identity and personality, and they always seem to produce the brattiest children.

I really thought it would end with them all going down in the plane returning from England, and still feel that would have been the best ending.

R14, r15, that’s what makes it so relatable. Teen girls can be absolute monsters. And then they can shock you with maturity and kindness. And mothers like Sam want to be liked and don’t want to be the bad guy. The eldest was the worst, IMO, but the younger ones were also kind, sometimes.
It’s very real; I know families like this.
I’m sorry to see it go, but it was time.

Hate watched it mostly. She is always thinking she is better than everyone and at the same time projecting false modesty (the character). If this is based on her real life as she says, she should have drowned her bitch daughters at birth. Glad it’s over.

I also found the daughters unbearable. Yes, they were written as realistic. But they were unwatchable, except the youngest.
The older two were just vile.

It’s strange how the non-binary daughter became more feminine this season then she was in the past instead of becoming more comfortable being fluid as one would see with greater acceptance over time. They never really focused at all on her this season and that journey. Her biggest arc was selling baseball cards.

I had an issue with that, r20. I'm surprised they didn't address it even before this season, and I'm surprised the show didn't get more criticism for basically dropping it.
I agree, the actress looks more feminine. The "What's a Computer" girl has grown into a very attractive young woman.
