Quelle surprise ! He’s a great candidate who has received national attention.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 2, 2022 2:53 AM |
Oh good. I'm sure the race between him and whatever office furniture that ran against him was quite a nailbiter.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 2, 2022 3:07 AM |
He’s gonna lose big against Abbott
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 2, 2022 11:41 AM |
Why do the democrats keep betting on this guy over and over? What R5 said. He’s going to get creamed.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 2, 2022 11:45 AM |
O'Rourke is unsuitable. And Texas voters know it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 2, 2022 11:52 AM |
I’m not sure Democrats would have a chance with anyone else either. The Democratic brand is so tainted and poisonous with most Texans, it’s just nearly impossible for a Democrat to win the state.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 2, 2022 11:52 AM |
Why is he unsuitable? Is it because he’s just too far left for the state?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 2, 2022 11:53 AM |
[quote]He’s going to get creamed.
Pics please.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 2, 2022 11:57 AM |
I like Beto but I worry about his “ helll yea we’re coming for your guns” sound bite coming back to haunt him.
Why give the GOP that ammo?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 2, 2022 12:05 PM |
He got awfully close to winning last time. In Texas. He scares the right-wing. Some Texas moderates might pick the young, white and shiny O'Rourke over Abbot and his COVID response.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 2, 2022 12:06 PM |
sorry, Abbott.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 2, 2022 12:07 PM |
Dick pics or it didn't happen.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 2, 2022 12:18 PM |
Does anyone know if the tone of his campaign changed? Because skateboarding Hamlet may or may not work. He's a bright guy for sure, I just worry about his self-confidence affecting the tone of his officer. Shit I said worry - dismiss me as a concern troll.
I think the good news for him is that vile Ken Paxton didn't walk to the Republican nomination for Attorney General. It was a four way race and he came first but not to 50% - run off in May. You have to think that there's a chance he might not carry the day, given his baggage. The wrinkle is leading thinker and good person Louis Goehmert (sp? but who cares) was among the four. The other run off candidate is George Bush the 3712th. So you figure two groups of voters break for Bush and the feculence breaks for Paxton.
Still, if Republicans actually go for someone other than Paxton, maybe Beto can carry the day. God knows he campaigns like nobody else in terms of energy. Just no more God, I was just born for this from atop the skateboard. It's Texas not Venice Beach.

"Beto 22: HIS Big Genitals Still Function"
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 2, 2022 12:24 PM |
A Texas State Senator (Dem of course) went to vote in person. Has lived in same house for 10 years, had same driver’s license (number) for 20 years [can’t remember exact numbers but you get the idea]. Was not ‘registered to vote’, not on the list. Other people say they tried to vote by mail and were rejected three times.
Texans may want Beto but with so much Republican fraud, it will be difficult.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 2, 2022 12:40 PM |
The city of Austin and inner-city Houston do not have enough blue voters to win any state election against any deplorable candidate. There are still a massive number of Bert & Bertha MAGA voters to overpower them. It’s a read state - period. And they’re obnoxiously proud of it.
So, Governor Hot Wheels it is, then.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 2, 2022 12:58 PM |
^ “red” state, that is.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 2, 2022 12:59 PM |
If there were legitimately more right wing voters, the Republicans wouldn't rely so much on cheating, voter suppression and gerrymandering.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 2, 2022 1:04 PM |
No, this is not "wonderful" news, R1. Just the opposite. Dems could actually win the state if they ran someone electable, instead of a media celebrity.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 2, 2022 1:21 PM |
Bless her heart, Haroldo Stassen O'Rourke keeps trying.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 2, 2022 1:25 PM |
Texas needs another Ann Richards. She was a uniter.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 2, 2022 1:56 PM |
DOA. Waste of time. Democrats need to get real.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 2, 2022 1:59 PM |
R24 is right.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 2, 2022 1:59 PM |
^ And she talked like folks. But on the other hand, she only won the governorship once, against a kook, and then narrowly. She was defeated on her second try. Texas is tough for Dems now because freedom. And guns. And other people's pregnancies.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 2, 2022 1:59 PM |
I forgot he existed.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 2, 2022 6:03 PM |
Why are good and intelligent Democrats so stupid when it comes to Things You Just Don't Say? Blunt honesty is for AFTER one wins, if even then.
Beto and his "take your guns" gaffe was preceded by (for one example) VP Mondale's "Mr. Reagan will raise taxes. So will I. He won't tell you. I just did." Walter, here's your sign.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 4, 2022 3:58 AM |
Showing just how empty the Texas democratic bench is
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 4, 2022 4:01 AM |
Everything fell apart for Beto when he did the Presidential debates. Standing beside Pete and Elizabeth, he just seemed like an opportunistic empty suit.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 4, 2022 4:06 AM |
Yay!!!
For REALZ!

Who, r22?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 4, 2022 4:07 AM |
As others have said, he’s a loser. Nice guy, but a loser. Didn’t win the first time and won’t win this time either.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 4, 2022 4:07 AM |
Isn't this the one who said "Hell yes we're going to take your AR-15s?" And he's running for governor of...Texas?
BWAHAHAAAAHAHA!!!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 4, 2022 4:13 AM |
everyone talks about his big dick but are there actually any VPL pics to prove it? I feel he's a tighty whities kind a man so it would be hard to tell.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 4, 2022 4:50 AM |
He also said in the debates that he favored removing tax exempt status for churches that were anti-gay which is unconstitutional and guaranteed to lose votes. That prompted Booker, who knows the Black Church vote, to exclaim "Whoa, boy, hold on there!".
Cue the response: All churches should be taxed. That's another issue. But you can't publicly advocate as a serious candidate selectively taxing churches based on their stance on social issues. That's a form of state control of religion clearly forbidden in the Constitution.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 4, 2022 7:40 AM |
[quote] That's a form of state control of religion clearly forbidden in the Constitution.
In fairness there is very little chance Beto ever read the Constitution
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 4, 2022 7:50 AM |
Beto probably had a life seat in that urban district he represented. He should have just stayed there. Someone might have picked him for VP at some point. The best he could do.
I mean Biden rewarded two of his rivals (Pete and Kamala). The others he needs in Senate. Beto got nothing. Tells you a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 4, 2022 7:59 AM |
Beto needs to shut up and do big dick daddy porn, just look at that long horse face, it's probably down to his knees.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 4, 2022 3:30 PM |
The Democrats are no longer a serious party if they keep nominating a repeated loser like hawt daddy Beto.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 5, 2022 8:09 AM |
If everyone who was anti-Republucan voted, we'd win the House, Senate and many gubernatorial races.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 1, 2022 3:36 AM |
He's jumped the shark.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 1, 2022 3:36 AM |
R42, Has he become anorexic?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 1, 2022 3:38 AM |
Many unsightly moles at R42.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 1, 2022 3:38 AM |

I wonder if he's getting tired of eating.
He looks emaciated in the photo at R42.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 1, 2022 10:32 AM |
Beto is not a good match for Texas. He only came close to beating Cruz because Cruz is such a horrible candidate too
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 1, 2022 1:05 PM |
Hollywood and New York love him. That's all that matters.

THis is too bad. He's a born loser
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 1, 2022 3:00 PM |
Well, at least Beto understands that, the so called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill really hasn’t much to do with Gays, and is ALL about Transing kids
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 1, 2022 3:05 PM |
Wake up and fight back! The Gays shouldn’t be used and abused by the TransBrigade

by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 14, 2022 4:07 AM |
Beto is pretending he disagrees with Joe opening the immigration floodgates.
Bull.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 14, 2022 4:12 AM |
Maybe he can troon out and pretend to be Ann Richards.
There's probably an Ann Richards out there being fucked over in favor of Robert.
It only signals that the Democrats intend to lose the governorship.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 14, 2022 4:14 AM |
Many moles on T-Ix-as.

by Anonymous | reply 69 | April 22, 2022 1:13 AM |
TOMORROW BELONGS TO BETO!
by Anonymous | reply 70 | April 22, 2022 1:15 AM |
I'm not Texan. Is Beto hammering Abbott on the billions of dollars lost to his pointless inspections?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | April 22, 2022 1:16 AM |
R67, Beto must be drenched after an hour of passionate sex.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | April 22, 2022 1:20 AM |
Then he will lose against the Republican. Beto's life story is running for whatever election Texas has and lose.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | April 22, 2022 1:24 AM |
Unpleasant to observe. Come on, Beto; see a doctor for a prescription of some sort.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | April 22, 2022 1:37 AM |
He's hot!
by Anonymous | reply 76 | April 22, 2022 1:38 AM |
Has that annoying rich boy vibe. Punchable face, puke inducing voice. Why not a Mexican? Could have got loads of votes. Many Texans could get behind that.

by Anonymous | reply 79 | April 22, 2022 2:54 AM |
That posh can't win against Abbott
by Anonymous | reply 80 | April 22, 2022 3:05 AM |
I think I'll see pigs flying upside down over my backyard before Beto becomes governor. I just don't see Texas turning purple or blue at the moment, maybe in 20 or 30 years. But it seems like no matter how much Greg Abbott or Ken Paxton fuck up (messing with the power grid and over 200 people froze to death, unnecessary inspections of trucks at the border and rotting produce costing millions, insider trading investigations, etc), the good people of Texas will keep voting them in because they have an R behind their name. And of course, the massive gerrymandering and voter disenfranchisement.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | April 22, 2022 3:13 AM |
And R81 if Beto the Beta is the best we can come up with we deserve not to win.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | April 22, 2022 3:20 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 107 | May 9, 2022 8:55 AM |
I fear R81 is right; I don't know enough about Beto to have an opinion, but I don't think he can win in TX, but supposedly TX has no dem bench & he's the best we can do. You'd think people would be angry enough at Gov Wheels & his petty, nasty & expensive stunts and criminal neglect during the power outage, but because he's got an R behind his name, TX will apparently put up with anything. The only hope is that the face of TX is gradually changing due to the people moving in from other areas.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | May 9, 2022 10:28 AM |
Beto doesn't have a great track record for actual victories but he's the closest anyone's actually gotten to getting a Dem win. Does anyone here have a better suggestion?
If not, maybe just shut up and support him?
I am curious to see what the polls will say.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | May 9, 2022 10:55 AM |

Until the vids of him crying about trans rights and slavery reparations start playing nonstop, then it's -20.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | May 18, 2022 11:54 PM |
What is interesting about all the polls in Texas (which always lean right - poll claimed Beto would lose the Senate by 9-10% in 2018, he lost by 2.5%) is that Abbott's numbers are always underwater. An incumbent stuck at +45 is an incumbent who's in trouble.
Abbott keeps making enormous gaffes: the GOP's base is rural Texas. He's pushing private school vouchers now. There are no - and won't be - any private schools in rural districts competing with public schools. People aren't totally stupid: they know Abbott would be robbing the public school budget for vouchers. And how will rural high schools pay off their multi-million dollar football stadiums? Friday Night Lights is sacred in the sticks.
Abbott's now under investigation by DoJ for misappropriating COVID funding. The guy is an abject idiot. Abbott wants to run for President like his mentor Rick Perry did. So Abbott thinks he's running against Biden. In his dreams. In a GOP primary, DeSantis will turn the dumb guy in a wheelchair into mincemeat.
Beto hasn't had any TV ads so far. He better get them up. There are too many people who aren't on social media: old people who always vote. He's still campaigning full-out, going to every little town in deep-red Texas where Dems never go and the GOP never has to. This could be a fatal mistake: if Beto can goose up his numbers in rural Texas, Abbott's fucked.
The only thing that could save Abbott is if Biden totally fucks up Title 42, which he probably will - look at the fuck-up with the baby formula and exit from Afghanistan - Biden's hired a lot of incompetent people. However, Beto has already criticized the fact the Biden admin has not been in communication with the border communities that will bear the brunt if it's a free-for-all.

Beto will very likely benefit from the overall frustration of Republicans' lack of response to stricter gun laws. If the GOP is not doing something (and market it as being totally groundbreaking and preventing future school shootings), they will very likely lose the midterms.

AUSTIN (The Borowitz Report)—A rattled Greg Abbott described for reporters the moment of abject terror that he endured when the gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke suddenly talked to him.
“Without warning, out of nowhere, there he appeared, saying things,” the Governor of Texas said. “I’m still shaking just thinking about it.”
Accusing O’Rourke of hiding behind the First Amendment, Abbott asserted, “That amendment was written in the eighteenth century and was intended for use only in times of war, such as when Paul Revere warned that the British were coming.”
Abbott said that he would secure twenty-four-hour police protection to shield himself from future terrifying incidents of O’Rourke speaking, and that he would take measures to safeguard fellow-Texans from similar outbursts.
One measure under consideration is a two-week waiting period between O’Rourke thinking of something to say and being permitted to say it, aides to the Governor confirmed.
“The No. 1 problem facing Texas today is Beto O’Rourke making sudden, unprovoked comments,” he said. “We must pass new, strict laws to protect Texans from Beto O’Rourke’s sentences.”

As someone who was not the biggest Beto fan, I think it’s safe to say that he has earned his nomination.
Not the old fashioned way for sure, but he has earned it over the work he has done over the last 5 years alone. One the ground with the people of Texas. His sleeves have literally been rolled up for as long, and win or lose, he has earned the seat of governorship as well.
In this time, for the foreseeable future, he is the person for the job.

An alleged attacker with an AR-15 was shot dead in Charleston, West Virginia, Wednesday night by a woman who was carrying a pistol for self-defense.
Dennis Butler was armed with an AR-15 and allegedly shot “at dozens of people attending a graduation party,” WCHSTV reported. Police indicate a woman pulled a pistol and shot Butler, killing him.
Charleston Police Department Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett said, “Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night.”

This will largely depend on the difficulty of even fat old republicans whose mail-in ballots have been rejected more than Dems. Will they waddle out and vote or just say fuck it. A number of things lately from the recent shootings, past shootings, and power issues last winter may put Beto in contention.

Speaking of being paid to troll for Hot Wheels, on Twitter a guy posted a Ring doorbell clip of a black woman coming to his door to leave Abbott campaign literature. Then when the homeowner arrived at the door, she asked him if he was going to vote for Abbott, he said "absolutely not!" and she burst out laughing. She got fired by the Abbott campaign but it showed they have to hire people to canvas, nobody doing it for free like with Beto.

R193 Many Latinos vote against their interests in an attempt to assimilate. They think the GOP are the patriots. The same thing happens in Florida and other places with large blocks of Latinos. It's really sad. You would think Democrats would have found an effective way to combat this problem by now. It's so obvious that Latinos are being played for fools.

Beto has been campaigning his ass off. He is out there, in this blistering heat, campaigning every single day in every city and town in Texas. He's going into rural counties nobody ever bothers to go to. Unfortunately, he is alone in that. The other Dem candidates running statewide just sit on their asses, tweeting occasionally. The worst is our nominee for AG, a Latina lawyer who got the nomination because in Dem primary politics, the Latina always get the nomination only to be destroyed by a white Republican man. We never learn.

What is Beto doing specifically to target Latinos?
by Anonymous | reply 197 | July 2, 2022 3:17 PM |
Beto's been campaigning intensively in the Valley (RGV for non-Texans) and in rural communities in South Texas. He heads up groups knocking on doors to talk to voters. One big problem has been so many Latinos are apathetic and never bothered to register to vote, so he's been registering a lot of people who never voted.

Beto is doing an excellent job in engaging new would be voters. This is what Democrats need to do in Texas, go to the people wherever that takes you. Such a monumental task to turn Texas purple, and Beto is the only person that has the determination and belief to tackle this beast.

Punchable? WTF? Why so violent R202? He's a beautiful, charismatic man who appeals to a broad swath of the Democratic party, crossing all demographics. He knows the State very well having been born and raised there and having traveled across it in its entirety for other campaigns. Who would be better? He's also got a Jimmy Stewart as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington vibe about him. Not to mention he kinda resembles another Robert Francis: Kennedy. He can also talk without notes, without a TelePrompter for a solid hour and make sense. Very charismatic.

I've met Beto twice now and heard him speak extemporaneously at rallies. He truly is impressive like no other politician I've ever paid attention to. After his rallies, he waits to take selfies with every participant. Liz Warren started copying him. But Beto doesn't just take the pic and say 'fuck off', you ask him a question and he'll actually answer you much to the annoyance of the people behind you in the line waiting for their pic. I went to a Liz Warren event and got a pic with her too but she looked right through you and ignored my question while her handlers hustled you along.

Beto does seem to be very charismatic and energetic on the campaign trail, so it was surprising when none of that translated to the debate stage during the 2020 presidential campaign. During the Democratic primary debates, he seemed nervous, unprepared, and out of his league. He was like the student who hadn't done the reading and was worried that the teacher would call on him.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | July 3, 2022 6:57 PM |
R210 Beto's issue is he didn't want to attack other Dems. He's used to Texas solidarity with Dems whatever their stripe. We need each other. He still won't do it even though he has to be angry about Biden's incompetent mismanagement of the border. Most of the Dems on stage were thrilled to form a circular firing squad and - to mix my metaphors - stab each other in the back.

I really hate our primary system. I wish more people voted in the primaries instead of just the hard core party cultists…maybe that way we’d get more people who couldn’t actually win instead of the one democrats fall in love with. And politicians like Beto are selfish…stop running. Let someone who has a shot at winning run.

Pete should have run for statewide office instead of taking a lame cabinet post. Nobody in history has ever gone from Secy of Transportation to anywhere. It's a dead-end cabinet post. That combined to the only other job he's ever had - South Bend mayor - where he got 8,000 votes to be elected and had a distinctly Log Cabin Republican and racist record mean the only place he's going is to a job as a pundit on MSNBC. CNN already has a full quote of gay anchors so MSNBC is a more likely future employer.
