she was a big deal in the 50s/ she had a huge recorded output on MGM lablel.... and then took a break to care for her ill husband. Amazing to me how some 50s vocalists are still worshipped and others like Joni are rarely mentioned.

Streisand has said in interviews that Joni was one of her singing idols as a young girl.

The photo at OP looks like a bad photoshop job. Whose body did they paste her head onto?

Awww, I loved knowing she was still chugging along somewhere in this world. Her song was number one ☝️ on the day of my first internet predator’s birth, God love ❤️ the soulless exhibitionist asshole.

Thanks for the YouTube posts. I’ve never listened to her. I know her only as one singer who Streisand consistently identifies as a favorite. Influence? A bit. I’ve always thought that Streisand’s quasi operatic style and way of “throwing” her voice as she adds power is best understood by listening to good cantor singers which she obviously heard quite frequently. The best example of it is her version of On A Clear Day. The rapid trilling vibrato of Joni’s is similar to Streisand when she is crooning- so influence? Maybe.

Eydie Gorme must've been influenced by James, too.

does anyone know how Joni's catalog of MGM releases were handled through the years? Did her husband or manager advise her to maintain ownership? And then finally rereleased in the 90s?
