Well?
I've thought that myself.
The plot is some big city developer with ties to the mayor wants to put up gentrified housing for the rich people who claim to be all about supporting the poor. Of course, the gentrified housing wipes out the neighborhood of the poor people.
The show builds to the 11 p.m. finale, "Love Shack". The "bang, bang, bang on the door, baby" is a call to arms for the people in the neighborhood to destroy the gentrified housing and reclaim their neighborhood from the developer who is "defending" his property.

The truck and bus crowd wouldn’t get it.

They were working on it a couple years ago.
I also have a plot, much better than that crap posted above.

I think (now middle-aged) Gen X tourists and their kids would generally flock to this

I should have noted RE my plot above at R1: one of the properties targeted with the wrecking ball is the Love Shack itself, and that would very much reflect the ramshackle nature of the video.

I mean, I know the band itself doesn't have to appear, but this group is just funky enough to write themselves in somewhere. Their hairstyles are just too distinctive not to!

Nikki Blonsky as Ricky Wilson!

Yes, and Tyler Perry as Kate Pierson

I like the developer plot. I always envisioned some sort of trashy Texas gay awakening...

The B-52's deserve to be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

R10 - I would set it in Atlanta to preserve "heading down the Atlanta highway" reference. I've worked alot of this out in the storyboard in my head for how this musical works.
As you can imagine, "Channel Z" figures prominently in the developer's attempt to manipulate the media about his project.

I generally hate jukebox musicals, but this is actually a fun idea.
B-52s original fanbase is quite old, now--they're actually late Boomers/first Gen-X. But lots of youngers would enjoy their sound, given the chance.
