Sam Elliott hated “The Power of the Dog”

And he’s very vocal about how awful a film he found it to be.

To be fair I thought it was overrated, but not as overrated as Sam Elliott is as an actor.

To me, Sam Elliott will always be the very sexy and hairy lifeguard. Yum.

He is right.

by Anonymousreply 2March 1, 2022 7:54 AM

He's just pissed he didn't get the role. Too old.

by Anonymousreply 3March 1, 2022 8:00 AM

My dad looked EXACTLY like him, and he passed young in his 50s a few years back, so every time I see a picture of Sam, I think of my dad

People also say I look exactly like my dad without the moustache

by Anonymousreply 4March 1, 2022 8:05 AM

I liked it but there wasn’t much too it.

by Anonymousreply 5March 1, 2022 8:23 AM

People can be surprisingly kind, can't they r4?

by Anonymousreply 6March 1, 2022 8:25 AM

I reckon Sam Elliott is more familiar with 'real Westerners' rather than those epicene, pseudo-intellectual, effeminate, New Zealand fake Westerners.

by Anonymousreply 7March 1, 2022 8:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 8March 1, 2022 8:48 AM

Rumor has it that Sam Elliott's hair turned white overnight after he watched Brokeback Mountain.

by Anonymousreply 9March 1, 2022 9:00 AM

Samantha Ellie needs to just come out already.

by Anonymousreply 10March 1, 2022 9:17 AM

R6 I’m being serious, I hear it constantly , in fact when I had a Facebook page and posted a profile picture , people were commenting of “you’re honoring your dad”, “that’s a good picture of your dad, but I don’t remember him without his moustache ” etc

The picture was me

Funny thing is , I never thought Sam Elliott was attractive maybe because he looked and even had the same build as my dad, so it would have been too weird and freaky for me to think that

by Anonymousreply 11March 1, 2022 9:20 AM

R9 Heard Tony Curtis raptured a haemorrhoid with an oversized dildo whilst watching Brokeback Mountain which is the real reason he hated the film.

by Anonymousreply 12March 1, 2022 9:20 AM

R4 post some photos, we will let you know whether they are telling you the truth!

PS nude photos are welcome! 😃

by Anonymousreply 13March 1, 2022 9:31 AM

He succeeded Robert Mitchum as the spokesman for the American Beef Council, because of course he did.

by Anonymousreply 14March 1, 2022 9:38 AM

I like Sam Elliott but apparently he didn’t understand the film. Cumberbatch’s character comes from a well-off, well-placed political family, is highly educated and is “cos-playing” as a cowboy. That’s why he’s overdressed and in chaps for so many scenes. Sam seems to have missed that.

To his credit though, he didn’t like House of Gucci either.

The Rupture! The Rupture!

Sam Elliot? Yes! Just stand there and be sexy, and naked!

by Anonymousreply 17March 1, 2022 9:52 AM

R15 his point is the other cowboys were dressed the same. They were.

by Anonymousreply 18March 1, 2022 10:20 AM

The movie is overrated

by Anonymousreply 19March 1, 2022 4:02 PM

Sam seems a little gay-panicky.

by Anonymousreply 20March 1, 2022 4:37 PM

He should've just called it a boring, heavy handed piece of shit and left it at that. Then he would've been 100% correct.

Everything with the Kirsten Dunst character was so fucking stupid and unintentionally funny.

by Anonymousreply 21March 1, 2022 6:00 PM

Sam Elliott is not coming off very well here. He will likely regret giving that interview.

Three threads on the same topic in a matter of hours. Who knew Sam Elliott would rate such attention on DL?

by Anonymousreply 23March 1, 2022 7:50 PM

He’s not wrong though r22

by Anonymousreply 24March 1, 2022 7:51 PM

I love that Campion declined to comment. She has no time for this.

by Anonymousreply 25March 1, 2022 7:56 PM

Someone needs to tell him that Steven Spielberg, who directed the West Side Story remake, is from Arizona.

by Anonymousreply 26March 1, 2022 7:56 PM

He is R24. The Power of The Dog is based on book by Thomas Savage, that was published in 1967 and is informed by his own experiences; it inspired Annie Proulx to write Brokeback Mountain. Even Elliott's comment about how ranches are run by multi-generational families ignores the fact that's what is actually depicted in the film.

He sounds ill-informed and surprisingly homo-hysteric.

by Anonymousreply 27March 1, 2022 8:01 PM

I forgot he was in it.

by Anonymousreply 28March 1, 2022 8:23 PM

I didn’t like the movie either, but then I don’t like Jane Campion. I enjoy Cumberbatch’s work but he’s too much of a bodhisattva to convincingly inhabit a psychopath like Phil.

by Anonymousreply 29March 1, 2022 8:37 PM

R22 Are you making a threat?

by Anonymousreply 30March 1, 2022 9:05 PM

FROGS (1972) is more entertaining than DOG. Tedious.

by Anonymousreply 31March 1, 2022 9:26 PM

I wonder if he is bitter over a western directed by a woman getting all this Oscar attention.

by Anonymousreply 32March 1, 2022 10:39 PM

Sam getting testy with fans.

And an ass-kisser fan.

by Anonymousreply 34March 1, 2022 10:46 PM

Had this been made several years ago and Sam Elliott played Cumberbatch's character I would have liked the movie a lot better.

by Anonymousreply 35March 1, 2022 10:48 PM

^ sorry, meant to respond to R3

by Anonymousreply 36March 1, 2022 10:49 PM

Wonder how long it’s been since he’s seen Montgomery Clift and John Ireland in Red River.

by Anonymousreply 37March 1, 2022 10:53 PM

Sam Elliott seems to have liked "Brokeback Mountain."

I don't know her.

by Anonymousreply 39March 1, 2022 11:11 PM

Was SE drunk during this interview??

by Anonymousreply 40March 1, 2022 11:26 PM

Poor old guy was probably trying to sound cool and unfiltered, but stepped in shit. I don’t hate him, but feel bad because he marginalized himself.

by Anonymousreply 41March 1, 2022 11:43 PM

You don't hate him, R41, but you feel sorry for him.

by Anonymousreply 42March 1, 2022 11:57 PM

He’s doing just fine.

by Anonymousreply 43March 1, 2022 11:59 PM

Sam Elliott is 100x sexier than Cumberbatch, I would love to watch Sam naked in that bathing scene!

by Anonymousreply 44March 4, 2022 12:19 PM

You always watch Lifeguard.
