I like Sam Elliott but apparently he didn’t understand the film. Cumberbatch’s character comes from a well-off, well-placed political family, is highly educated and is “cos-playing” as a cowboy. That’s why he’s overdressed and in chaps for so many scenes. Sam seems to have missed that.

To his credit though, he didn’t like House of Gucci either.

Even Elliott's comment about how ranches are run by multi-generational families ignores the fact that's what is actually depicted in the film.
