ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus And Wife To Divorce After 41 Years Of Marriage!

What a surprise! I’ve always felt sorry for Agnetha when she and Björn divorced. Her known relationships and marriages were either short or weird. He met Lena just few days after he had seperated from Agnetha. It must have been painful to Agnetha.

Plus according to some sources Lena is ill.

Agnetha and Björn seperated in Christmas 1978 and Björn went to Frida and Benny’s New Year’s part where she met Lena. A week later.

gimme gimme gimme a man after 60

by Anonymousreply 4February 23, 2022 10:10 AM

ABBA is band that has always astounded me with their inexplicable stellar success.

I have never understood the appeal.

As for his divorce, we are put on Earth to maximize happiness and if he wasn't, well then ... .

Or 75 (he'll be 77 in April!)

[quote]As for his divorce, we are put on Earth to maximize happiness and if he wasn't, well then ... .

Maybe he met his own personal Che Diaz

by Anonymousreply 6February 23, 2022 10:45 AM

We are not put in earth for any reason whatsoever.

by Anonymousreply 7February 23, 2022 10:47 AM

I’d still love to see his cock. He has size meat based on those 70s suits he used to wear.

R1, I always felt bad for Agnetha in that situation as well. During the later days of ABBA, Bjorn often commented to the press that he was only a bachelor for one week after their separation, which seemed to me like gloating.

Agnetha handled the situation gracefully; Lena visited Bjorn on the 1979 tour and there are photos of the them and Agnetha socializing. This was less than a year after the separation and before the divorce was finalized.

by Anonymousreply 9February 23, 2022 11:01 AM

Agnetha has said (recently) The Winner Takes it All was about their separation. Since Bjorn and Benny wrote it, I guess at least it shows a bit of sympathy for her.

[quote] I have never understood the appeal.

Then you obviously understand nothing about superior craftsmanship in music.

Whilst their music is not to everyone’s taste, absolutely no serious musician has ever denied ABBA’s mastery at composing very complex songs musically that yet sound easy.

by Anonymousreply 11February 23, 2022 11:12 AM

Not to mention that they wrote some of the world's catchiest lyrics in a language not their own.

(Have you ever tried to sing one of their songs in Swedish? Degree of difficulty high.)

by Anonymousreply 12February 23, 2022 11:23 AM

R11, R12, they were a joke to everyone until a decade after they quit. Yes, they crafted some wonderful songs, but it’s Swedish folk music. That’s the basis of Swedish pop. It’s why Swedish producers dominate the US pop charts. ABBA is not original when it comes to the Swedes. Swedish children are required to learn an instrument by law. ABBA is a dime a dozen there. And no, not every musician agrees that they’re great. I love them, but let’s not get carried away. Those movies really helped rewrite the narrative.

by Anonymousreply 13February 23, 2022 11:37 AM

While we are on ABBA gossip, was there something between Benny Andersson and Helen Sjöholm?

by Anonymousreply 14February 23, 2022 11:37 AM

"I have never understood the appeal. "

They have a beat that I can dance to

by Anonymousreply 15February 23, 2022 11:48 AM

Swedish Fleetwood Mac

Drama, drama, drama

by Anonymousreply 16February 23, 2022 11:49 AM

Beware "Hej, det är Che Diaz". These words will be your Waterloo.

by Anonymousreply 17February 23, 2022 1:02 PM

You know, I really don't get this. OVER 40 years of marriage? What's the point of a divorce? They're 100 years old! He could live in one wing of the estate and her in the other.

by Anonymousreply 18February 23, 2022 1:04 PM

R13 go and fart on yourself, you plonker!

by Anonymousreply 19February 23, 2022 1:14 PM

[quote]we are put on Earth to maximize happiness

That perspective explains many of contemporary society's ills.

by Anonymousreply 20February 23, 2022 1:33 PM

OP's link is a 404 for me.

by Anonymousreply 21February 23, 2022 2:06 PM

TERRIBLE! Their life will no longer be as good as an ABBA song.

by Anonymousreply 22February 23, 2022 2:15 PM

If you change your mind

I'm the first in line

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me…

by Anonymousreply 23February 23, 2022 2:21 PM

R14 I don’t know but Benny was married to Frida while seeing another woman, who got pregnant and then Benny told it to Frida. They divorced and Benny married Mona Nörklit, the pregnant woman and they are still married. Their divorce song is When All Is Said And Done.

by Anonymousreply 24February 23, 2022 2:42 PM

There is nothing like ABBA now. There are catchy songs, but they’re amateur hour compared to ABBA.

I wonder if there’s some legal/financial reason for the divorce if Lena is very ill? It may not be that he left her because he doesn’t want to deal with a dying wife. Maybe SHE wanted to end the marriage. Or there’s some inheritance/tax thing.

by Anonymousreply 25February 23, 2022 3:00 PM

How much is she getting in the divorce settlement?

(Dude is loaded.)

by Anonymousreply 26February 23, 2022 3:19 PM

Damn it, OP. I'm going to end up listening to ABBA off and on for the rest of the day. Oh well, I haven't done that in a while.

Divorcing Queen

by Anonymousreply 28February 23, 2022 4:57 PM

He had a type didn't he?

by Anonymousreply 29February 23, 2022 4:59 PM

Yeah, I wouldn't readily assume that he was the one forcing the separation/divorce. She may have kicked his ass out. Who knows.

What I don't quite understand as someone who is not in his mid-seventies: What has made their lives so miserable NOW that wasn't all too bad in the decades before? And it's usually not that you decide in your mid-seventies that you want to open a next chapter in your life and the spouse is holding you back from whoring around.

by Anonymousreply 30February 23, 2022 5:08 PM

It’s pathetic but a lot of older straight men leave when their wives get seriously ill. Maybe some discomfort with mortality or just pure selfishness. The same thing happened with Neil Young and his (now dead) wife Pegi.

by Anonymousreply 31February 23, 2022 5:19 PM

R25, Lena was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia over a decade ago. Bjorn was asked about it in an interview a few years back, and said it was progressing so slowly that she would probably die of something else. Jill Clayburgh lived another 21 years after her diagnosis.

I am very surprised by the divorce at this late stage. In 2020, Bjorn said they were still having sex four times a week.

Who knows, R31. It could be because he's an asshole. It could be, as someone mentioned above, some sort of asset protection. As in, he's not necessarily leaving her, but legally divorcing in the eyes of the law only.

Or, I've seen in a few older relatives, sometimes when one partner gets sick, it can be a complete nightmare for the spouse who is not sick. It's not a matter of the well partner being callous, or not being willing to stick by their sick partner's side, but more of the sick person dragging the other one down in ways that are quite debilitating mentally and physically. It's hard to describe to someone who hasn't seen or experienced how bad and basically abusive that scenario can become. It really can become a situation of self-preservation.

by Anonymousreply 33February 23, 2022 5:31 PM

R16, without the nearly billion dollars spent on drugs and alcohol. Without the trash autobiographies ghost written by sycophants.

by Anonymousreply 34February 23, 2022 5:34 PM

r10 I remember hearing that and made it a point to pay attention to they lyrics, which I hadn't done before. It's actually a very heartbreaking song when you know the backstory.

by Anonymousreply 35February 23, 2022 5:39 PM

If someone is sick, they're not being abusive because they need care.

by Anonymousreply 36February 23, 2022 5:42 PM

Then you haven't seen what I've seen, r36. They absolutely can and do use it to their fucked up advantage.

by Anonymousreply 37February 23, 2022 5:45 PM

He doesn't want to be dragged down by a dying old wife.

My prediction: We will see him with a young thing any time now to stroke his ego.
