Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

It’s trashy. It’s trash. It’s tasteless. It’s absolutely disrespectful to the original. The ending to the new movie pissed me off. I hated everything about it. Including the famous Sally Hardesty character was bad enough, (having to recast, of course) but what they did was just disrespectful.

Terrible movie. Even worse than the other awful sequels. The early 00s remake was the only semi-decent one since the original.

Fuck Netflix.

It's truly bad. The dialogue is ridiculous and it's trying too hard to pander to Gen Z. I hate using the expression "woke" but this movie is a shining example of it. Leatherface looks ridiculous as well.

As far as the other sequels, I've always loved TCM 2. Tobe Hooper made a bold movie going the horror/comedy route with it. TCM 3D was mildly amusing if not gimmicky, but I genuinely flinched & ducked at some of the 3D scenes, like when Leatherface flings the chainsaw right at you.

by Anonymousreply 1February 19, 2022 9:11 AM

The original "Texas Chainsaw" is one of my all-time favorite films, for many reasons. This more or less looks like a throwaway. It seems they took an approach similar to the recent 'Halloween" revival, and combined with the influencer (though they weren't yet called that) plotline of "Halloween: Resurrection". So essentially...we've already seen this movie.

by Anonymousreply 2February 19, 2022 9:27 AM

R2 I agree. But they made this film in hopes to revive the franchise with young people the way 2018 Halloween did.

by Anonymousreply 3February 19, 2022 1:17 PM

Watched it yesterday. It has some stuff going for it, including a short running time (9 minutes of which are the closing credits lol); some great kills (there's a decapitation that is fantastic!)

by Anonymousreply 4February 19, 2022 1:41 PM

The guy with the garage was hot.

by Anonymousreply 5February 19, 2022 1:47 PM

It’s SHIT

by Anonymousreply 6February 20, 2022 12:07 AM

It wasn't that bad and moves at a brisk pace. It's a shame I found the 2 lead females so unappealing. And who hasn't wanted to decimate a bus full of influencers?

by Anonymousreply 7February 20, 2022 12:29 AM

And how fucking old is leatherface supposed to be? If the original was 50 years ago and is referenced in this movie as fact, he has to be at least 70 in this one. That's a detail they want you to just forget about entirely.

by Anonymousreply 8February 20, 2022 12:32 AM

Think i'll stick with the original movie. Although the 04 version had some nice eye candy.

by Anonymousreply 9February 20, 2022 3:24 AM

Terrible! It just didn't make any sense. They were trying too hard to go in the direction of Halloween 2018. While Sally was a great last girl, she is no Laurie Strode, Nancy Thompson, or Sydney Prescott. It felt cheap and half backed, The best payoffs was Leatherface vs. the influencers in the bus. The problem with this film and the setup are the victims are really the villains in all this. Leatherface is almost sympathetic here. The terror of the OG or the 2003 version which I thought was excellent was in the simplicity. I wanted every last one of them to be finished off.

by Anonymousreply 10February 20, 2022 3:28 AM

Sally is one of the first final girls, that’s why she gets respect and love.

by Anonymousreply 11February 20, 2022 3:32 AM

Half backed?

by Anonymousreply 12February 20, 2022 4:17 PM

I quite liked it. It wasn't as good as the original but I never expected it to be. It is a whole lot better than many of the others such as Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Texas Chainsaw 3D, and Leatherface (2019). My only complaint is that I am not sure that I liked what they did with Sally. It seems they brought her back for the sole purpose of killing her off and she had no other reason to be there. But other than that, I found it very entertaining and the death scenes were great. I also liked the characters and was fully engaged with what was happening to them. I am not sure what people expect out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre #9, but it was good enough for me.

by Anonymousreply 13February 20, 2022 4:28 PM

Most people who don’t like it don’t like it because of what they did with Sally

by Anonymousreply 14February 20, 2022 4:56 PM

Holy cow, I actually expected to dig this film. It was horrible on every level.

The gore was fake.

The bus scene (which should have been a classic) fell completely flat.

The film had no tone or feel. The "plot line" was non existent.

Zero suspense- like nothing.

It played like a black comedy and the setting was all wrong too.

Just bad.

I enjoyed the Sally part and that really hot blonde guy in his forties? I don't even know his name or what his character had to do with the film, but he was in a good part of it.

by Anonymousreply 15February 20, 2022 5:03 PM

I got to meet most of the original cast and I told Marilyn Burns that her performance is the best portrayal of absolute terror ever on film. I'm sure she must have heard it before but she seemed genuinely appreciative of the words. And it is true.

by Anonymousreply 16February 20, 2022 5:26 PM

They needed to remake a classic a second time?

by Anonymousreply 17February 20, 2022 5:28 PM

It’s not a remake, this is a direct sequel to the original, like what Halloween (2018) did, erasing everything that happened after the original.

by Anonymousreply 18February 20, 2022 5:47 PM

[QUOTE] I quite liked it.

R13 must be the movie director.

by Anonymousreply 19February 21, 2022 3:53 AM

Good gore and great visuals, but what it did to Sally was horrible. Why even bring her back if you're just going to do a carbon copy of the Halloween '18 Laurie Strode arc which wasn't even that interesting to begin with, but give her even less screen time and a horrid ending?

Besides that, it's stupid and silly but not a bad time all around. It's impossible to connect with any of the younger characters, so you root for Leatherface to shred them to bits.

by Anonymousreply 20February 21, 2022 4:11 AM

This Nutflix version is not terrifying like the original, it's funny. They're making fun of millennials is hilarious. Their brains are incomplete w/o their gadgets.

by Anonymousreply 21February 21, 2022 6:27 AM

Do you have a copy of The Texas Chainsaw Mascara?

It is just a fun, silly slasher film you can forget your troubles, sit back and enjoy without having to put too much thought into it. As another poster said, I don't turn on the ninth Texas Chainsaw Massacre film expecting an Oscar worthy masterpiece work of art. The original is where the art is. All I ask is that it be entertaining, and on that I think it delivers.

by Anonymousreply 24February 21, 2022 12:31 PM

R21 They were definitely targeting Gen Z with this movie, not millennials. I was confused as to how they found so many "investors" under about 26 with enough money to buy up a town.

by Anonymousreply 25February 21, 2022 12:43 PM

Spoiler Alert!!!

Loved how they showed the impaired, old woman the door. Heartless assholes must die. Lol.

by Anonymousreply 26February 21, 2022 11:22 PM

You make a big deal out of the lone survivor, she’s badass, and you only give her maybe 3-4 minutes of screen time and kill her off very easily. This was the first one to deal with Sally I believe. She was a great final girl. Her acting in the final scenes was terrifying. She escaped a whole family of killers in one of the most memorable chase scenes. To top it off, her confrontation with Leatherface ended with him not even knowing who she was. WHY? Why write it like that?

I am fucking pissed off. I really thought they’d made a decent film after Halloween 2018 was well received. A curse on those who made this shit. They fucked it up epically.

by Anonymousreply 27February 22, 2022 3:13 AM

R24 Your low expectations are why they keep make shit movies like this. This was not in any way a good movie. Not one aspect. This was the first they actually dealt with Sally, the lone legendary survivor, and she gets a few minutes screen time tops. STOP accepting SHIT.

by Anonymousreply 28February 22, 2022 3:26 AM

I liked it better than any of the new Halloweens - what they did with Sally seemed like some sick humor, making fun of what they did to Laurie Strode in those, and I thought it was great, in the nasty spirit of the franchise

by Anonymousreply 29February 22, 2022 3:32 AM

My God, you gays watch such crappy movies!

by Anonymousreply 30February 22, 2022 3:45 AM

R29. What?

by Anonymousreply 31February 22, 2022 3:46 AM

I really enjoyed the kill scenes, but the rest was a complete waste.

by Anonymousreply 32February 22, 2022 5:01 AM

I love how they spent 5-6 minutes of the influencers desperate to get out of the bus, and then finally one dumb bitch thinks to open a window, just in time to die.

by Anonymousreply 33February 22, 2022 5:14 AM

There was no point in bringing Sally back, with the original actress dead.

by Anonymousreply 34February 22, 2022 6:09 AM

I don't know why Gen Z wants to be so unattractive. The sisters were hideous in personality, style, and overall hotness. There were not hotties or attractive last girl to root for. Jessica Biel and that whole cast was smoking hot in the young gen x/old millennial TCM remake of 2003;

by Anonymousreply 35February 22, 2022 6:14 AM

I love horror movies but I don’t understand how people can watch the really bad ones, especially new ones. I can watch “Night of the Demons” and “Slumber Party Massacre 2” because they are so ridiculous and over the top. There’s no way they were trying to be scary.

But a movie like this is trying to be dramatic and it fails.

by Anonymousreply 36February 22, 2022 6:45 AM

Who cares if the actress who played Sally is dead. Bringing the final girl back after all these years is smart. Too bad she was horribly used and the movie is complete and utter shit. Nothing good about this movie. Nothing. The kills were stupid. But this is modern day movie making. No one can make a good movie now. But holy fuck this was bad. The one good scene was the last. That’s it. I was really looking forward to this.

by Anonymousreply 37February 22, 2022 10:46 AM

It was significantly better than Texas Chainsaw 3D, Leatherface (2019), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. And much more entertaining than Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III. Nothing is ever going to live up to the 1974 film. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 was wise not even to try. It decided to take a completely different approach and was a wild, crazy, fun film. I am not sure why people hate this film so much and pretend it was the worst in the series when it differently isn't.

by Anonymousreply 38February 22, 2022 11:49 AM

The sister with the perm was awful. I wanted her to die right from the start after the gas station interaction with the hot hick guy.

The other girl was okay. I liked the actress in Castle Rock and Eighth Grade, she was fine here.

Dante was a bitch.

Bad movie. Everyone hesitated too much. When *spoiler* leatherface was chainsawing Sally, thlse girls should’ve driven the car into him then, not when he was finished and ready and waiting for them. I did like the dead sunflowers. They looked good.

by Anonymousreply 39February 22, 2022 4:11 PM

[quote] The sister with the perm was awful.

I think they were trying for a Stockard Channing in GREASE vibe.

by Anonymousreply 40February 22, 2022 4:20 PM

Pretty much this...

Per IMDB and Wiki, it was filmed in Bulgaria.

by Anonymousreply 42February 22, 2022 5:03 PM

Yeah, bring an awesome Final Girl back for the first time in the chain’s history and give her very little screen even though she’s a badass then SPOILER kill her with ease.

No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 43February 23, 2022 12:23 AM

Sequels, remakes, they're all usually crap. And this is no exception.

by Anonymousreply 44February 23, 2022 12:29 AM

R44 They don’t have to be. Fuck. How hard is it to make a decent movie? It didn’t need to be cheeky, or gory. They really could have mined the history and delved into the 1973 event with Sally back. But, nah, lets make a really shitty movie that doesn’t resemble the original in the least.

by Anonymousreply 45February 23, 2022 12:48 AM

I liked the sister with the kinky hair perm. She has the IT factor. Look for her in upcoming Nutflix garbage.

by Anonymousreply 46February 23, 2022 6:41 AM

I loved it. Really. It was fun.

by Anonymousreply 47February 23, 2022 7:23 AM

R47 Fun? If it was a true throwaway sequel where it wasn’t 50 year later and the final girl wasn’t brought back it might have been fun….no it wasn’t even then. It sucked. It was bad in every way. Who was the lady who died of a heart attack? Why was Leatherface with her….you know who cares. It sucked.

by Anonymousreply 48February 23, 2022 10:37 AM

[QUOTE] I liked it better than any of the new Halloweens

Man, R29 should be dragged out back and shot. Halloween Kills sucked and yet it was leagues above this stinkfest. And it can’t be compared to Halloween 2018 in any way, shape or form. You people are nuts.

by Anonymousreply 49February 23, 2022 11:31 AM

R49 It isn't going to kill you if someone finds pleasure in something you don't.

by Anonymousreply 50February 23, 2022 12:07 PM

How did they address the ableist inherent in a mass murderer holding a chainsaw? Not all mass murderers have arms or grip strength. What about them? Without representation we are literally denying them the right to exist.

by Anonymousreply 51February 23, 2022 12:12 PM

People with such strong reactions over opinions over a movie such as r49 need to reexamine their priorities and mental state.

by Anonymousreply 52February 23, 2022 12:14 PM

R48 After Leatherface's family all died off, I assume he found a new guardian. She was the only person he cared about in this world and the only person who cared about him. So after remaining dormant all those years, her wrongful eviction and death caused him to snap and start to murder again.

by Anonymousreply 53February 23, 2022 12:15 PM

R51 Leatherface is clearly disabled and has been from the beginning. He doesn't even have the ability to speak and cannot live on his own without a family member or guardian to take care of him. I'm surprised they don't come for this series, and Friday the 13th for that matter, for portraying severely disabled characters as evil murderers. Talk about Leatherface being "cancelled."

by Anonymousreply 54February 23, 2022 12:19 PM

R54 he is a white man of privilege, therefore any representation for disabilities he may have are nonstarters. Choosing not to speak? Expecting a servant to take care of his needs?

Please, talk about the epitome of white privilege. Most BIPOC can't afford a chainsaw, and if they can, they can't afford the fuel to run it. What about their struggles? Why are we throwing yet another white man with a grudge on the screen? What message does that send to children? It's literally killing people!

by Anonymousreply 55February 23, 2022 12:25 PM

Amd, lets not forget R54, if this is a continuation of the first movie, he is anywhere from 70 to 80 years old.

by Anonymousreply 56February 23, 2022 12:59 PM

All this yakking about Sally being a famous final girl! Face it-the most famous final girls are Laurie Strode from Halloween and Alice from Friday the 13th. No one remebers Sally.

by Anonymousreply 57February 23, 2022 1:02 PM

R57 I like Alice from Friday the 13th, but she is not that well remembered. Many fans of the series even prefer Ginny from Friday the 13th Part 2 over her. Sidney from Scream, Nancy from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Ripley from Alien are all more well known and well regarded final girls.

by Anonymousreply 58February 23, 2022 1:16 PM

R56 If we go by when the original actor, Gunnar Hansen, was born, he would've been 75 this year if it weren't for his death from pancreatic cancer in 2015. Leatherface sure did move around well and have a lot of strength for a 75-year-old man. Any disabilities he may have had were clearly cognitive and not physical.

by Anonymousreply 59February 23, 2022 1:24 PM

If the queen can swing an axe at 98, Leatherface can surely handle a chainsaw at 75.

by Anonymousreply 60February 23, 2022 2:42 PM

I can't handle movies like this, they truly disturb me, so I'm not sure why this garbage movie would be any worse than the original garbage movie, but I've been stabbed during a gay bashing so maybe that has something to do with it. Violence and gore is not entertaining to me, at all. But I did watch Trixie and Katya's reaction on youtube, and that was fun.

by Anonymousreply 61February 23, 2022 2:56 PM

I am all about Laurie Strode and Ginny from F13-2.

by Anonymousreply 62February 23, 2022 3:53 PM

I wasn't expecting Shakespeare but some of it was AGGRESSIVELY dumb.

"Hey, let's keep hesitating when running from a killer! Hey, let's spend 6 minutes banging on the windows of this bus and only realize that they open just in time to get cut in half!"

I thought the gore was excellent, but another polish of the script could've kept everything else from being horsehit.

by Anonymousreply 63February 23, 2022 4:15 PM

R55 you made me laugh out loud. Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 64February 23, 2022 7:02 PM

[quote]And how fucking old is leatherface supposed to be? If the original was 50 years ago and is referenced in this movie as fact, he has to be at least 70 in this one. That's a detail they want you to just forget about entirely.

Yeah, nimble, wasn't he?

[quote] Fuck Netflix

Why? They didn't make it. The producers couldn't get a theatrical release and sold it to Netflix.

[quote]Most people who don’t like it don’t like it because of what they did with Sally

Oh horseshit. It was as far from the original as it cold be and still have the title. There is no reason to see him flattening a guy's head, it wasn't scary, it wasn't gross, it was just boring. It bored me. The original had almost no blood but people were cowering in their seats. There were no scares, no tension and no character development to make you care if they lived or died. I am lucky, being a big movie fan to experience all the classics horror movies since the 70's opening weekend and this was just a shitty movie.

by Anonymousreply 65February 23, 2022 11:20 PM

R58 Alice is very remembered. She isn’t always high up on the most popular list but she is very memorable and remembered.

by Anonymousreply 66February 24, 2022 12:38 AM

What I like about Alice is after her and Mrs. Voorhees beat the fuck out of each other she looks so pissed off, grabs the machete and chops her head off like a boss.

by Anonymousreply 67February 24, 2022 1:22 AM

The treatment of Sally is not setting well with hardcore fans of the original. They’re pissed.

by Anonymousreply 68February 24, 2022 1:25 AM

Technically, Sydney isn’t a final girl. Gale and Dewey (now just SPOILER ALERT Gale) also survived. Ginny, also, wasn’t alone and would be dead if not for Paul.

by Anonymousreply 69February 24, 2022 1:27 AM

Nancy Thompson is THE best final girl. While Laurie and Sally were running around screaming their heads off looking for help in the original fils, Nancy was devising booby traps and faced down Kruger on her own.

by Anonymousreply 70February 24, 2022 7:59 AM

The effects are great, with some inventive and sick kills - but everything else about it is bad bad bad. Bad writing, nonsensical behaviour by the annoying characters, and a complete waste of the legacy character which was set up to be something cool but had an extremely limp payoff.

Not scary at all either.

by Anonymousreply 71February 24, 2022 9:23 AM

I also think Alice was pretty badass. She got the best of Mrs. Voorhees every time nothing the bitch out once. She got a rifle but couldn’t get the bullets in time, hid, fought, and finally dispatched the cunt with an “off with her head” epic moment. In the sequel, she was on guard picking up an ice pick. That cat made her let her guard down.

Nancy was a great final girl.

Sally woke up tied up with a family of monsters trying to kill her. Tormenting her. Yet, she escaped.

Laurie also fought back and got the upper hand several times. Of course in H20, H2018, and HKills she was really a badass.

Syd and Gale are badasses.

Ginny really only hid, then briefly did some psychology on Jason before being saved, then saving, Paul.

by Anonymousreply 72February 24, 2022 10:44 AM

Ginny wet her pants!

by Anonymousreply 73February 24, 2022 12:00 PM

R73 who wouldn't?

by Anonymousreply 74February 24, 2022 12:02 PM

R70 Nancy ran and screamed in her first encounter with Freddy. It's just that he only attacks in her sleep so she had time to plan. Laurie and Sally where just going about their lives when they were suddenly attacked. They had to respond in the moment

by Anonymousreply 75February 24, 2022 12:10 PM

One thing I missed was Leatherface's family. What sets this series apart from Halloween or Friday the 13th was that Leatherface was never a lone masked villain chasing teens. With the exception of Texas Chainsaw 3D, he always had a whole ensemble of psychos working with him. But I guess since this is a direct sequel to the first one after 48 years, the hitchhiker is long dead and Drayton Sawyer would be as well by now. He might've had an aunt, uncle, and/or cousins scattered around Texas, though. That might explain the new families in Parts 3 and 4.

by Anonymousreply 76February 25, 2022 12:02 PM

Yes, why don't they just make the same movie over and over and over, that is what people apparently want

by Anonymousreply 77February 25, 2022 2:23 PM

The Texas Chainsaw Mascara puts this quite in the shade.
