Man bitten in half by shark at busy Sydney beach

Jesus christ. I assume that's the victim shouting at the beginning of the video? At least it sounds like it was very, very quick. I guess it would be. But yes, those seagulls...

r10 my point was that if Sydney Harbour is a 20 minute drive from this beach so they probably have the same sharks. I know you had nothing to contribute so you appointed yourself the Map Police. I understand you but I still hate you.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 16, 2022 7:51 AM |
Better a clean good honest hungry shark than a crocodile who is only shopping gathering the menu for later dishes. Ceocs pull you down into their nest and let you season before they Begin to snack,
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 16, 2022 8:02 AM |
Anyone wearing a black wetsuit in shark infested waters is insane because the dumbass sharks mistake you for a seal and go chomp.
Australia and the US have hellish oceans for swimming. Sharks, jellies, rough seas. Head to the Maldives if you want calm, shark free swims in warm turquoise water.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 16, 2022 8:26 AM |
The guy who was eaten swum there regularly for YEARS.
It's just one of those freak things. Swimming further out than most beach users is a small risk but a very real risk.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 16, 2022 8:30 AM |
A horrific way to go.
But when you compare it to rotting away from dementia over 15 years or other common ways to exit, you have to wonder what's worse.

I know perspective is not DL’s thing, but it is the first fatal shark attack in Sydney in 59 years. Horrible, but in no way common.

R19 I've always wondered why apsosematic colours arent more commonly used for wetsuits - something like bright orange and iridescent blue stripes, colour combos that scream "I am poisonous". Its strikes me that looking like a seal is just a bad idea when diving, especially if sharks are a possibility

The dead man was a rock fisherman who slipped off the rocks into deep water. The whole area looks horrible for swimming. Rough sea, rocks everywhere.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 16, 2022 11:40 AM |
I lived in Sydney. When you swim in the Harbour, it is behind shark nets or fencing.
When we would go sailing, we'd see sharks all the time.
I once got stranded in the middle of the harbour when our sailboat had a leak, took on water, and sank. I spent 40 minutes thinking we were going to be killed by sharks. But the "coast guard" told us the sharks would see our sail under the water and assume we were a whale and leave us alone.

Sharks bite very colorful sail and surfboards, as well.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 16, 2022 3:54 PM |
I thought you should wear black and white striped suits because then the shark would mistake you for a poisonous sea snake and leave you alone.
This will certainly be the best episode of Shark Week this summer.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 16, 2022 10:22 PM |
I don't buy this guy's claim that eating humans is a clear waste of energy for sharks. Clearly this shark didn't think so as it ate most of the body and came back to attack multiple times.
We get it - sharks shouldn't be demonised, but they are predators and will eat humans when they choose. to. Great Whites eat seals, dolphins and sea turtles among many other items. Humans may be less fatty but they're clearly also worth eating.

See he fished rocks for all those years and then they got back at him.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 17, 2022 1:21 AM |
That's incorrect. He did not fall in and was not fishing. The victim was a swimmer; apparently a man who swum there most days; he was wearing a wetsuit and was relatively far from the area where most beach users would swim. So an ocean swimmer but a beach paddler.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 17, 2022 1:23 AM |
On the news this morning in Sydney they're saying it was a 4 metre Great White. They've closed 35 beaches up and down the coast while they look for it. The news today is that the guy was not a local but was a regular swimmer in that area. And yes, it was the first shark-bite fatality since 1963.
PSA: It seems this guy knew what he was doing and was just very unlucky. But if you are not from Sydney and not an Olympic swimmer or a daily surfer, then don't go in the ocean off Sydney. It's not only sharks. Far more common are the ferocious rips that will drag you out to sea or throw you at the rocks. If you swim between the flags erected on the beach you are guaranteed that lifesavers are watching you, and there's probably a drone in the air looking for sharks as well.
If there are no flags or you find a quiet spot away from them to go in, you're an idiot. If you think you can swim there because surfers are doing it, you're a moron: Australian surfers are practically fish. If you swim at night, can I have your stuff?

I don't want to see the video, thx. The one someone posted with a pedestrian getting struck down in Queens and having his head run over by a truck was enough for me.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 17, 2022 4:34 AM |
What the fuck is wrong with everyone in that video? Their reactions are bizarre. It's like they're filming a shark kill a seal or something, not watching a person being killed before their eyes. Here's another still blurred video but it demonstrates better what I'm talking about. The guy filming has an oddly unaffected tone, the camera stays perfectly still and he even zooms in at one point. Just at the end it shows some guy just casually standing on the rocks with his fishing rod. They don't seem shocked or stunned, I'd be losing my fucking shit if this happened right in front of me.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 17, 2022 4:48 AM |
I think I saw the unblurred video last night. You see some red water but no actual...human or human parts. I think you can hear the guy yell at the beginning but that stops pretty quickly. A friend of mine regularly goes swimming at a beach in Perth at dusk. I constantly tell him not to but he reckons as a Canadian I have no idea how safe it is.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 17, 2022 4:57 AM |
It's unblurred on worldstar. You momentarily see bloody froth on the water and the shark thrashing around but I at least couldn't see anything worse.

There is a definite chunk of human (not identifiable if you didn't know what it was) in the water throughout the video at R77. The person was clearly no longer whole or alive. Shark comes back for more. I agree with the other poster who mentioned the odd responses of onlookers - it's possible they didn't know what they were filming and maybe just thought it was a shark eating a seal or some other sea mammal?

This poor guy was from the UK. Every few years, there seems to be a Brit abroad animal tragedy story. To memory, there’s been ones involving polar bears, crocodiles, bison, and assorted safari animals in Africa. It seems such a bizarre thing because nature has been almost completely managed here. The top predators are foxes and badgers.

The video opens up with the guy holding the camera yelling “A shark just ate someone! It’s a great white.” He later says “the person is still in the water!” He says multiple “Oh NO!”s and “Fuck!” He and the other guy who is fishing are obviously stunned by what’s happening in front of them and they also realize there’s nothing they can do about it. They can only watch.

Isn't it odd for the shark to have eaten so much? In stories I've read about fatal shark attacks, the mostly intact bodies are recovered. Maybe it's because it occurred closer to shore and the sharks were driven off before inflicting more damage?

Jaws was on BBC America last week. I hadn’t seen it in years. I’ve seen it many times over the years but usually I’m reading while it’s on in the background. This time my iPad and phone were being charged so I watched the film instead of reading while it was on. It is still very suspenseful.
BBC America needs to have “BBC” taken out of the title. It just shows old American movies & tv shows. Last night it was playing Law and Order with long dead Jerry Orbach.

The Aussie I heard on camera (oh no, someone has just been eaten by a shark; it's a Great White!) didn't sound calm to me, he sounded very upset.
However, if you haven't listened to a lot of Aussies and they way they speak/cadence etc., they tend not to be hysterical sounding, even when there is something shocking or violent happening. I've watched a lot of Australian shows over the past 5 years and they are really the opposite in the way they react to things and their vocalizations. Very opposite from American.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | February 17, 2022 7:40 PM |
That is very true R135.
Aussies don't do hysteria like Americans do.
We tend to withdraw in a sense in relation to witnessing something shocking. We go more quiet and understated.
It's like holding your breath after your first words and shock sets in.
Americans seem to want to put on a show to show how shocked they are at an event.

They are recreational fishermen R119. Lots of beaches here in Oz have rocky outcrops at either end and people fish off them for snapper, bream and other fish. According to the internet, it allows access to deeper water, where there are more fish, than fishing from the beach itself.
And it is also dangerous - quite a lot of people drown from being washed into the ocean from a particularly big wave hitting the rocks.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | February 17, 2022 8:05 PM |
I'm the one who said upthread (lost the r number and not going back to check it) that they don't sound shocked or stunned. They don't, IMO, and I'm Australian, so I understand the difference in how we can come across in stressful situations, but these people did not sound shocked to me (one in the background might but the one filming did not). They seemed fascinated with what they were seeing, not shocked or stunned. The camera stays steady. No, he's not great at filming but if you watch other videos of someone being killed, they might drop the camera or it is shaking because their hands are shaking, he does none of that. The guy at the end was still just standing there with his fishing rod in his hand. Yes, their reactions were bizarre to me.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | February 17, 2022 8:14 PM |
r138 I've never been in that situation, but I'm sure shock manifests itself in several ways, especially when you KNOW that you can do absolutely nothing to intervene. What were they supposed to have done - start to keen and scream? For all you know, they may have been saying a prayer for the poor victim.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | February 17, 2022 8:19 PM |
I think their reactions are within the range of normal. This is called shock. It's likely the full impact of what happened only hit them hours later. The guy with the fishing rod is not being callous he's in a state of disbelief and he's processing it all. One of the fisherman later that evening said he was (by then) constantly vomiting. This is shock.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | February 17, 2022 8:21 PM |
I don't know r138, maybe it just depends on the person. I saw my father's badly decomposing body (he was found in his home) a few months ago and my immediate reaction wasn't to scream or cry. It's hard to explain but, it was almost like I was "watching myself" from a distance and "not really there."
That said, I've been having severe migraines and occasional nausea ever since, and vomited a few days after.
My appetite is also shot to hell. Shock affects everyone differently.

R123 I live in Sydney by the beach. I surf. I do ocean swims (usually 2-3 km) a fair way out.
I see sharks occasionally while surfing but they’re usually grey nurses or hammerheads which, while they look fucking scary, are harmless to humans. I also see migrating whales and pods of dolphins and turtles and all types of fish.
The bottom line is that it’s their (fish including sharks) territory not mine. That’s a risk that I’m willing to take to experIence some incredible beauty.
The last fatal shark attack in Sydney was 60 years ago in less than one metre of water, 10km up the harbour from the ocean.
The odds are in our favour.

I’d wear a white wetsuit or orca suit for swimming but the only options around here are black or navy.
And between November and May I don’t wear wetsuits at all, just a rashy for surfing.
I’d consider getting my next board in some stripey pattern but from below with the sun shining above, they all look black (i.e. like a seal) anyway.

There's a video up on twitter. A few days ago, two teenagers were swimming in a bay in New Zealand. Two orcas swim by them, check them out and then swim on. There's never been a recorded attack by an orca on a human in the wild. Attacks by orcas caged in Seaworld shows demonstrate how orca mentality is changed by captivity.

r228 /r223 I used to go to the beach when i was a kid growing up in Southern California. About 10 years ago, I moved to Northern CA and soon had a boyfriend who was an avid surfer. As I had been a boogie-boarder as a kid, he encouraged me to take it up again while he was surfing. I got the wetsuit and everything. I was a little concerned because some of the time he would surf near a river outlet where salmon would come into the ocean and sharks were sometimes known to hang out. Yes, there had been several attacks on surfers in the past years (i don't think any deaths). I shook off my fears and went out a couple times (I really sucked after all these years). The last time I went out, i got caught in a rip tide which kept pulling me farther out toward the danger zone near the river outlet where the salmon came from and all i could think of was the sharks. I had fins and kicked like hell to try to get out of the rip. i was so panicked. it took me about 10 minutes of frenzied kicking to get out and get back to shore.
That was it; that was it for me with boogie boarding. I had a new respect for the ocean (not that i'd never been caught in a rip when i was a kid but it was SoCal, barely any waves and the rips aren't bad. I'm not saying i will never swim in the ocean again, but it's going to be waist high at best.

There is no mainstream call to kill the shark.
No one believes the myth that it's now got a taste for human blood and will return to kill again. This scare story never comes to fruition.
Plus past experience tells us they NEVER find the shark again in these situations. It is long gone.

R241 I have no idea but first you’d have to kill the shark to find out.
Great whites travel long distances - it’s unlikely that this one is lurking around Little Bay waiting for dessert.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | February 19, 2022 12:57 AM |
Totally agree R240. Having grown up in the country the ocean has always felt a bit alien and threatening to me so I'm never going to be an 'ocean swimmer' but as you say, it is their domain. I just never go out too far.
Years ago I got 'stranded' out in Port Stephens during the first and only time I tried water-skiing. I was the last of a group of friends to have a go and managed to stay upright for a while before falling off/in. It was an overcast and slightly chilly day so the boat went back to get the person who'd been starting us off in waist-deep water, with the skipper saying they'd then come back and I could have another go. So I floated there, my white ski-clad legs dangling down into the deep water and after a while starting thinking 'They're taking a long time to come back ...'.
They weren't so far away that I couldn't see what was happening over at the shore and to my 'Oh fuck no!' dismay I saw the crew and my mates all start using skis to paddle the boat over to a nearby dock. The boat had broken down. I made my way back by dragging my arms through the water but it felt like it was taking forever to get close to them and the overcast day made every triangular wavelet look like a dark dorsal fin.
When I got close enough to hear them the skipper shouted out 'That's right mate. Keep making your way over like that. And try not to splash too much'. I didn't think much of that last comment at the time but have thought about it since, especially once I learned that Port Stephens is known as a place where juvenile great whites gather. I got back on-board, they got the boat fixed, and the skipper said 'Ya wanna have another go?. 'Nah, I'm right' I said. Long story I know, and a non-story too since nothing actually happened, but for a country kid who never felt 100% comfortable treading water in salt water, it was an experience I don't want to repeat.
Sharks both fascinate and frighten me. I did that tank dive at Ocean World in Manly once, but they are just grey nurses and while big, are harmless, at least to us. And I saw a reef shark while snorkelling in Queensland and that was cool. But when it comes to the 'big three' most implicated in attacks, I'll stay in the shallows and hope they stick to the depths.

Thanks R246. I get where you are coming from with the denial thing - a couple of friends of mine down the south coast swim every day in one of the rock pools but a few years back decided to do the Bondi to Bronte swim which meant training out in the open ocean. 'I couldn't do that' I said. 'Don't you think about sharks the whole time?', knowing I certainly would. 'No', one of them replied. 'Sometimes I start wondering about what might be down there but I just push the thought away or I'd freak myself out and never do it'.
With the Ocean World dive we entered the main tank by going over the edge of a small side pool. As we were gathered there about to do that a big shark came to the surface and was swimming around with its dorsal fin slicing through the water and it seemed to go against every instinct to willingly put yourself into the water with it. But like I said they were grey nurses and we just swam to the bottom and sat there while everything in the tank swam around and above us. There were about six of us 'divers' and two instructors and they each had poles that they would use to give the sharks a gentle push away if one came too close so it wasn't at all scary despite my shark phobia.
I've also not let it stop me doing things like snorkelling in Qld and Indonesia but there is always a big dark shape looming out of the blue water lurking in the back of my mind. Most of us have our phobias and sharks is mine.
Do you remember/know the story of the Lonergans, that American couple that the dive boat left behind up off Port Douglas? I remember thinking that was a nightmare scenario when it happened. They made a movie called 'Open Water' about it though moved the setting to the Bahamas. Good movie, horrible inspiration.

Yes...it's pretty much "horrific" when the entire lower half of your body is chomped/eaten by a shark (and apparently the shark came back for more!). from what i've heard, there was a little bit of torso and head left. but i don't know...i didn't see the unedited vid and i'm not looking for it.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | February 19, 2022 7:03 AM |
I remember the adverts for Open Water r254 and vowed to never see it. At that point, i just wanted to be able to go into the ocean without worrying i was going to be chomped on from below. Nope.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | February 19, 2022 7:06 AM |
Is that a phobia, R254? I feel like people with phobias don't repeatedly seek to spend time in close proximity to the thing or situation they're phobic about.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | February 19, 2022 7:11 AM |
Another friend of mine has the same attitude as you re Open Water R246. He goes out fishing whenever he can - off Sydney, a few times up in the Gulf - and he refused to see it too. He reckons that if the boat he's on ever sinks the last thing he wants is that movie replaying in his head.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | February 19, 2022 7:14 AM |
Dunno R257. You're probably right - I guess it's more a fear than a phobia really since I will snorkel, swim in the sea etc. And I've not let it stop me doing those things cause I know that the odds against a shark encounter are heavily in my favour. But you'll never find me swimming in the harbour or the Georges or Hawkesbury Rivers - fucking bull sharks.
I was reading about this attack on some news site the other day and a marine biologist said that this sounded like 'a particularly nasty shark' since the repeated strikes and basically consuming the poor guy was so unlike most great white incidents. The same article said you have more chance of being killed by a kangaroo, which I think must be bullshit. I've heard of dogs being killed (disembowelled) by kangaroos, but never a person. So there's another thing to be wary of in our sunburned country.

WARNING: GRAPHIC
There is a second video which shows the shark apparently feeding off in the background, then in the foreground you see what looks like a toro with a head, face down in the water, with the legs missing and apparently one or both arms gone. The shark then comes back and takes the torso under water. Nothing further is seen.
Undisclosed remains were recovered and they're still looking.

Part of the reason that people are obsessed with this, is because it's the ultimate reality check. Modern people live in such an insulted state, mostly protected from nature and certainly protected from the predation that is a reality for most living things, and was a reality for our ancestors for hundreds of thousands of years. We get above our station because of our insulated and cerebral lives and forget what we are. When we see this shark attack we are reminded.

by Anonymous | reply 287 | February 19, 2022 2:47 PM |
I watch a lot of shark docs. I find them fascinating and terrifying though I do think they a get a bad rap for the most part. I've heard several shark experts claim that sharks don't seem to particularly like the way we taste and most bites are exploratory and dangerous for us, unfortunately. They don't have hands so what else are they going to do? They also have more going on thinking wise then we have previously thought. Maybe this was just an asshole shark in a bad mood that day or really hungry and sick.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | February 19, 2022 2:54 PM |
Like how could a shark know they don't like how we taste until it tasted us or is there like a shark version of Zagats or Bon Appetit? And how do they determine that anyway? Do they give the sharks a comment card to fill out?

My ex-bro-in-law was boating in the Gulf of Mexico. He ran out of gas. As he was fairly close to the dock, he jumped in the water and swam for the dock. Suddenly he heard people on the dock screaming bloody murder at him though he couldn't make out what they were saying. He thought they were mad about him abandoning his boat. When he got to the dock they told him there was a hammerhead at least 8 ft long swimming right beside him. He thought it was a good thing he didn't know. He would have freaked out and probably started swimming more erratically.

Best places for ocean swimming from experience:
1. Vilamendhoo and Angaga islands, Maldives
2. Kefalonia, Greece.
3. Cala Galdana, Menorca.
4. Olu Deniz, Turkey.

What I saw had no pixelation, no censoring and was filmed from a different perspective to any of the videos posted above.
One of the posters above asked if what they were looking at was the torso and “it looks like the shark came back”.
The version that I saw on Twitter was completely unequivocal on both counts.

There are three videos: the one on news sites which is blurred out, then two videos from a different person on the same cliff, the first part showing a swimmer splashing around and blood and a shark fin, the second one is the one I think you saw, where it's mostly just a torso bobbing around but a shark comes back.

They never should have pulled the video. EVERYONE should see it to see the true reality of the ocean. Hiding reality never did anyone any good. Arent we adults ? Or do the wizards behind the curtains decide for us ?
by Anonymous | reply 373 | February 22, 2022 9:44 AM |
r346, aren't all sharks in the ocean "feral"???
by Anonymous | reply 374 | February 22, 2022 3:42 PM |
Upon further consideration and in consultation with some other people that i speak to in the neighbourhood, I've decided to share the fucking gruesome link to the 2nd video as referenced in my original post.
I do this only to illustrate the fact that we are very much prey in still so many settings and that this is the cold reality of nature, may this poor man RIP.
VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED.

I don't dare look.
by Anonymous | reply 376 | February 23, 2022 4:59 AM |
Nothing to be seen, literally. The water was choppy and that shark had finished off the victim before anyone could record his death.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | February 23, 2022 5:06 AM |
You sound disappointed, R377.

Ghastly!
by Anonymous | reply 382 | February 23, 2022 5:52 AM |
R375 There was no need or excuse to post the gruesome video of the poor man's death.
It reminds me of another person who watched it ten times(why would you watch such a thing ten times?)
The person did not realise the man being killed by the shark was his close friend.
At that stage the victim had not been identified. Imagine now having that image imprinted in your brain.
Be careful what you glorify in.

MARY!
by Anonymous | reply 384 | February 23, 2022 6:01 AM |
THAT'S what all of the "trust me" bullshit was about, R375?? I'd already seen that footage!
by Anonymous | reply 385 | February 23, 2022 7:52 AM |
I saw that part with the torso already. I haven’t seen the unblurred beginning part of the sharks first strike.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | February 23, 2022 9:02 AM |
I guarantee you that the fiancee will have a five to six figure offer on the table now for a TV interview, probably 60 Minutes.
by Anonymous | reply 388 | February 23, 2022 10:47 AM |
Just google Australian shark attack reddit and click on the thread that comes up. People have posted a link to the video in the comments.

" A person just got eaten by a great white". past tense. By the time the other people on the beach picked up their mobile phone to record, the shark had completed it's task. The quote gruesome unquote video recording shows crashing waves and beneath the waves, a bloodspout. This shark was too quick to be recorded and I don't know why others are lying about what is recorded in the video.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | February 23, 2022 12:37 PM |
That wasnt as bad as i thought it would be, his legs maybe hanging down. Dont go in the ocean.! I was in the gulf by tampa and from the SHORE i could see fish that were about two feet long, i thought if the fish are that big right by the shore then what the heck is out there deeper. I havent went in the ocean since.
by Anonymous | reply 391 | February 23, 2022 1:50 PM |
R390 There is another video where the limbless torso pops up and bobs among the waves, head still attached, face-down. Its not exactly light fare.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | February 23, 2022 1:52 PM |
I agree with the poster above. That did not look like a beach. That looked like choppy, rugged terrain. Maybe being a diver he had become desensitized to the dangers of the water because not many people in their right mind would take a dip in that.
by Anonymous | reply 393 | February 23, 2022 1:54 PM |
I surf where juvenile GW and pods of dolphins hang out. When people ask me about shark attacks (and this child was traumatized by, "Jaws"), I reply, "How often do you hear about fatal car crashes or dog attacks vs shark attacks?" I also use that argument with people who are afraid of flying in planes.
by Anonymous | reply 394 | February 23, 2022 2:26 PM |
Between the virtue signaling cunts calling this undignified / glorification AND the psychopaths who seem disappointed by the lack of gore in my post, fuck all of you. I posted it because it's human nature to want to see such a rarity occur and be recorded in real time, something that almost never happens, and for reasons already articulated in my r375 post.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | February 23, 2022 7:00 PM |
The whole video is a nothing burger, you cannot see fuck all. Who cares.
by Anonymous | reply 396 | February 23, 2022 7:05 PM |
r394 i hear about fatal car crashes ALL the time (like almost daily), TONS of dog attacks (even some fatal). I think surfing where GW juveniles hang out is tempting fate. Honestly, I'm glad you're sure in your decisions but I think you're probably in the minority and if it was my family member who was doing that, I'd probably spend a good deal of time convincing them to GO ELSEWHERE TO SURF. Pretty sure there are plenty of choices.
by Anonymous | reply 397 | February 23, 2022 7:24 PM |
FYI r397, GW juveniles jaws aren't fully developed, so it's less likely that they'll attack humans. I don't know why, but there hasn't been any attacks since 2000, but there have been attacks at the beaches immediately north and south of it (where I also surf) -perhaps that's where the adult sharks hang out. Pretty much the whole coast of California is rife with GW sharks, so there's no escaping them.
by Anonymous | reply 398 | February 23, 2022 8:45 PM |
I should amend the above post- there wasn't an attack in 2000, that's just when they started chronicling them on a particular website.
by Anonymous | reply 399 | February 23, 2022 8:47 PM |
R393 he swam that stretch of coast every day - the choppiness wouldn’t have been a concern and he would obviously be very familiar with the location. I’m an ocean swimmer - when ever I compete (there are races here most weekends between October and April) I always hope for beautiful calm conditions but that rarely happens.
When the sun shines and the water is flat beyond the breakers it can be a sublime experience. Still hard work, though!
by Anonymous | reply 400 | February 23, 2022 9:06 PM |
375 i appreciate your post. Reality is always better than denying. I didnt understand why it was blurred out. Thank you .
by Anonymous | reply 401 | February 23, 2022 9:58 PM |
The guy was preparing for a swim event where the swimmers swim from one beach, around the coastline to the next corresponding beach. Malabar to Little Bay.
That's why it looked odd for someone to be swimming in choppy waters and near dangerous rocky terrain. The stretch that he was swimming would not have been all that long as he would started to head into the shallower corresponding much calmer beach water around the corner.
Still i cant fathom swimming out there in such deep and dangerous water.
by Anonymous | reply 402 | February 24, 2022 5:35 AM |
I've swum at Little Bay many times.
It's a sandy beach that's hugely popular with families and all sorts of regular beach users, set in a small bay with rocky outcrops slightly further out as you head in the direction of the bay opening. That rocky part was the area where was eaten. It was not some wildly dangerous, rough and inappropriate place to swim. It was probably a 10-15 minute direct swim from a sandy family beach.

[quote]It was not some wildly dangerous, rough and inappropriate place to swim.
Was this area, by chance, in the water?
by Anonymous | reply 404 | February 24, 2022 8:58 AM |
^And is this water located in Australia?
by Anonymous | reply 405 | February 24, 2022 8:59 AM |
r398/r3911 i am r235. I live in NorCal and I don't get into the water because there are known sharks in all of the waters around Sonoma County. Surfers around here have a bit of an adrenaline junky/death wish/dick swinging by surfing near the mouths of rivers where the salmon come from. Fuck that noise.
Oh and the most recent shark attack here was in Oct of last year. Surfer was severely injured.
"This area is part of what is known as the "Red Triangle" and are where there is a high concentration of Great White Sharks. The triangle area is bounded by Bodega Bay, Big Sur and the Farallon Islands and nearly half of the recorded white shark attacks on humans occur in this area with over 80% recorded shark fatalities are north of Point Conception."
by Anonymous | reply 406 | February 24, 2022 9:09 AM |
^^Sorry that was meant for r398/399
by Anonymous | reply 407 | February 24, 2022 9:14 AM |
Thank you r387.
Guess the person recording the video moved his recorder to see the attack with his own eyes, so the moment by moment attack is, in fact, not entirely recorded in any form.
by Anonymous | reply 408 | February 24, 2022 10:19 AM |
Shark attacks may be rare but when they do happen, they are so terrifying it makes up for when they don't happen. Its still a gamble, and they happen more than we hear. This guy was eaten alive in broad daylight. No thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | February 24, 2022 12:27 PM |
The problem was he was too delicious. Put Roseanne out there and no shark would go near.
by Anonymous | reply 410 | February 24, 2022 12:29 PM |
Bites happen everywhere. So do kills. Lots in the U.S. - East and West Coast.
by Anonymous | reply 411 | February 24, 2022 12:37 PM |
I'll bet the shark feels guilty now.
by Anonymous | reply 412 | February 24, 2022 1:31 PM |
This is actual footage of the shark right now
by Anonymous | reply 413 | February 24, 2022 3:20 PM |
Yes, Sonoma County here. I've heard of a LOT of shark attacks in Florida, very shallow water, over the years. Disprove me. Isn't this what "Shark Week" is all about?!

I used to live at Little Bay before I went to California. I never went swimming at the beach because I like a very sandy beach. Fun fact Little Bay was the only beach where you couldn’t burn your feet on hot sand because asbestos was dumped there! It also used to have a hospital Prince Henry which was at one time for contagious diseases.
