I guess it started the whole binge watch phenomenom, way back in the day...that's the only reason it got so much attention?
Sopranos overrated?

No.

The last season was subpar, but the other seasons were outstanding.

I didn't watch the show, but I never liked that intro song, by Alabama. Suddenly it was everywhere, being played.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 14, 2022 1:23 PM |
You couldn’t binge watch; it was on once a week on HBO.

Don't forget that Journey song that was foisted upon our ears, R3.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 14, 2022 1:28 PM |
It's brilliant. It's slower than shows now a days but it's the best drama ever made in my humble opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 14, 2022 1:32 PM |
It's not overrated and it's fascinating. The acting was well above average and there were many surprises.

Thank you , I'd rather watch reruns of Buffy or pull out my toenails one by one rather than indulge in mafia epics.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 14, 2022 1:37 PM |
OMG that damn Journey song was EVERYWHERE after that final episode. Kind of like that Bohemian Rhapsody poo that was foisted on us by Wayne's World.

One of the best TV series. Perfect? No. But it’s definitely excellent. Have watched it multiple times. The recent prequel movie sucked, though.

There should be a law against dredging up bad songs from the past and using them in TV or film.

I tried to rewatch in 2020 when HBOMax was new, but I couldn’t get back into it. It was good the first time around (it had struggles), but it doesn’t stand the test of time and the characters are truly despicable. I didn’t get into the prequel either, but Alessandro Nivola does something to me do I watched for him. The Wire is a much better show.

No.

The Sopranos started A QUARTER CENTURY AGO. Americans still watched network television. Network television depended on dramas being easily accessible even if you missed last week (Because about 25% of the viewers hadn't watched the week before).
It wasn't the first cable show to build storylines and use the R rated permissions of not being on network. But it was one of the most accessible at that time. And it was good for what it was. I just rewatched it. It was consistent. It developed characters. Death was always a possibility which always makes things more interesting. Many wonderful actors. Consistently interesting. It's not Breaking Bad quality though in terms of its pacing, acting, or writing.

Have we talked yet about The Sopranos' Superbowl commercial for Chevy?

I’m rewatching it right now and it’s funny how tastes change. When I first watched it I wasn’t attracted to Furio at all and now I find him hot af

I love finding people someone who's never seen it, because then I can take them on the entire journey. I've see the whole series about 5 times.
That's what I love about these kind of shows...They're novels you can enjoy with other people.

I just rewatched the entire series last month. It was better than I remember

New episodes every Sunday night. I would watch SATC, The Sopranos, and then Six Feet Under. Great lineup.
The Wire and Mad Men I would also put up there with The Sopranos.

I was raised in New York and have relatives in New Jersey. I only watched the first season but the performances were spot on.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 19, 2022 4:21 AM |
Neither The Sopranos nor Mad Men had a season as consistently bad as the last season of The Wire.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 19, 2022 4:22 AM |
r21 I won't watch The Wire again because those boys broke me in the final season
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 19, 2022 4:24 AM |
The last season of The Wire was terrible with a lot of stupid ass characters (particularly that asshole journalist at the newspaper). But it wasn't consistently bad as the last season of Game of Thrones, where you forget how brilliant the earlier seasons were.
I can't think of any prestige television series that wrecked its legacy like Game of Thrones.

Nope. It started 'appointment viewing.' Every Sunday. If you didn't watch first run, you'd be fucked at the water cooler on Monday.

R16, Frederico Castellucio ("Furio") is an amazing painter in real life.
I don't know why I find this show so comforting. Maybe because it's just good, and it's the last series I watched with my parents when they were both still living.
It's a great series.

No, but it's not for everyone.

It was okay but it can't hold a candle to Queer as Folk.

It was no Models Inc.
