WTF. Most of Menudo was like 10 to 15. So no. He wasn't too young. I heard Ricky was involved with the older Spanish pop singer Miguel Bose when he was underage during his last few years in Menudo. Ricky's homosexuality was not that secretive, he had boyfriends in the 90s. He had to butch it up for the US market n the late 90s though.

Menudo was more of a brand than just regular boy band. All those boys were signed on and discarded after 3 to 5 years due to them getting taller and their voices deepening. Menudo lasted 20 years and went through over 30 members. Pretty much defined the disposable pop star brand.

Menudo's big break on Sesame Street! Ricky is something else.

R9. The alleged record exec was Jose Menendez. Jose was with Sony Entertainment. They owned the rights to Menudo in the USA. Ricky says his only interactions with Jose are the typical meet and greet schmoozing they do. Side note: I read a blind a couple of years ago that Menendez (then with Sony's movie arm Carrollco) messed with Corey Haim. Side note 2: Yes I know he boinked his son Eric I believe he boinked Lyle also.

Jackson 5, Menudo and New Edition basically opened the doors for New Kids on The Block, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and the million of UK, Japanese and Korean boy bands. The 5 members with distinct personalities to market to tween girls lip-synching to choreography and passionately hated by teen boys and young men everywhere.

I actually think Menudo had good Latin pop rock sound, I love the rhythms, bass guitar and synths of their music. I also enjoy New Edition's early stuff.

Being too young was the point, Edgardo Diaz (their manager) was a pedophile. 3/5 of the original members were actually his younger cousins so I wouldn't be surprised if he abused them prior to putting them in the group.

**There was a rumor where one of the member's brothers walked in on a menudo member and a staff member lying in bed; in some tellings it's Ricky Martin and in others it's Ray Reyes. There was another rumor told by a hotel maid that one of the members wet a hotel bed in his sleep.

**In 1991 some Menudo members went on Cristina's show (some call her Latina Oprah) and alleged the manager Edgardo Diaz and other men abused them.

**In 1991 menudo photographer Bolivar Arellano claimed the boys were plied with drugs and alcohol and sexually abused by Diaz and friends of management.

** Around the 1991 accusations Diaz admitted that many boys came out of Menudo with worse problems than they had coming in (since many members were lower class), but said he wasn't the one that did it.

**Around 2010 before Ricky's memoir was released, Johnny Lozada made an odd comment and some speculated Johnny was afraid Ricky would talk about the abuse (as he would have the widest reach and people would think it happened to the others), and in 2020 he still said nothing happened to him and that he wasn't aware of it happening to others, but at the time didn't really understand as to how much he was really working as a child.

**Around 2013 Draco Rosa and Ray Reyes admitted to having sex with adult women while in the group.

**Roy Rossello said in 2014 he was sexually abused and described an alleged incident where he was summoned to Edgardo Diaz's room and Ricky was there dressed in women's clothes. He claimed he got Draco Rosa and Draco hit the manager.

**In 2014 Rene Farrait said Diaz and others "know what happened". He claimed he mentioned things in interviews while in the group and it was cut out when they aired it. He claimed he wasn't aware of the thing Roy said because he left the group by that point, but said there were "other things" that occurred during his time.

**Angelo Garcia came out in 2015 to say somebody sexually abused him while in Menudo.

** After the 2020 miniseries lots of members gave their insight to things they witnessed/experienced due to being pretty pissed about the series: Rawy Torres stated there was verbal abuse and he witnessed Diaz violently grabbing another member by his hair. Roy Rosello went more into detail about his sexual abuse. Rene Farrait stated he wants to make a series with other former Menudo members where they detail the abuse. Gabriel Fernandez (part of Los Chamos group, was only in Menudo for like a two weeks) stated an assistant told him he had to get in the bed with Diaz and then when he cried and refused he was kicked out of the group.
