Overrated without the wigs

She has gotten fat.

She was stunning up until 40-45. Her partying and drugging caught up with her. The body is still flawless. Her skin is like velvet. Black don’t crack, but apparently it can wither a bit.

I was never really a fan of her fake hair. Roshumba Williams was one of my favorite models of the 90s because she insisted on being natural when it came to her hair. I think that Naomi was beautiful enough to pull it off. But she was addicted to weaves. To the point where she got traction alopecia and went bald.

She was always fug.

She was always pretty, but never gorgeous. Beverly Peele was her with cheekbones and beautiful eyes. She should’ve had Naomi’s career.

But I’ll concede Naomi has personality and a gorgeous body. She had one of the best runway walks and she’s fiercely loyal, which helped her career maintain momentum.

That said, it’s tragic what she’s done to her face. You can tell she’s has some kind of implants on her cheeks among other things.

Oh well. At least she’s not fat and disfigured from cool sculpting (Linda) or morphing into a man (Cindy).

Karen Alexander was gorgeous. She appeared on one of my Top 10 favorite Vogue covers of all time in January 1989 (even though Naomi made history later that year by appearing on the cover of the September issue).

There are hardly any photos of her smiling with pleasure, and I was surprised to see the ones that exist. In my mind’s eye she is always scowling with displeasure. I think she’s mean.

Iman even said that she was pleasantly surprised at Naomi's success because before her most black mainstream models were like her with "acceptable" brown skin and European features. Naomi's facial structure is unapologetically West African. Even ALT said, "there is no other face, no other body, no other legs...". She's a fabulous runway model.

Both Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington were very loyal to her, and helped her career by pushing the package deal of having all 3, or none, for runway work. There were some designers who were reluctant to feature POC on the runway modeling their clothing (maybe it was Dolce & Gabbana, but I can’t remember). Naomi had a great walk on the runway, much better than the celebrity spawn nowadays.

Naomi's runway persona was half Queen of Sheba, half Playboy Playmate. I loved it. I could watch her walk the runway for hours.

I’ve found her stunning in the past but the more she opens her mouth the less i find her fascinating to look at. I think she just should do more of a Kate moss - never complain, never explain.

Like several other top models, I have seen her in real life and she’s not someone I’d consider breathtakingly beautiful..but boy does she know how to work a runway. She knows what makeup is best for her features, and what angles are best to shoot. Her body is sinewy and she knows how to move it. Thus she’s a supermodel. You don’t have to be stunning in real life to light up the camera. Certain features are just made for print. I see more beautiful women all the time but they most likely wouldn’t make it as supermodels. Naomi is still one of my favorites.

Never heard that. It certainly wasn't D&G. In the history of (super)modeling, Black models conquered the runway long before they made a significant showing in print media. Long before Naomi.

One of the greatest runway walkers in the history of the business. Charisma and attitude there for days. At her peak (1990s) there was no one who came close.

Extensions don't protect your hair, extensions actually cause traction alopecia and that's what happened to Naomi. She's balding. The constant weaving of the extensions onto your bio hair causes tension, which, in turn, damages the hair root.

Never understood how people found her or Christie Turlington beautiful. Extremely average looking and her body was ok, but nothing to write home about.

Nao and Tyson Beckford both have Chinese grandparents. I didn’t know that Jamaica had such a sizable Chinese immigrant population. A lot of Chinese men took Jamaican women as wives.
