You pick your egg donor out of a catalogue that has a photo and biographical and medial information. Then you pick the surrogate. It's up to you if you want to have a relationship with this person. Some people want no relationship. Others want to meet the surrogate and be heavily involved in the pregnancy, going to doctors' appointments, etc. If it's anonymous, the agency is the go between sharing ultrasounds and other prenatal info.

It's a great, no mess way, to have a kid.

For weeks before the removal, the donor is pumped up with hormones. Then the agency owns the eggs and can sell them to whomever they want (whomever can write a big enough check).

The requirements for donating eggs are pretty strict. You have to be smart. You have to between a certain height range. (No one wants to buy an egg that will result in a son who is short or a daughter who is too tall. You can't have health problems. Of course, you have to be attractive, too.)
