I saw a designer brand just the other day with Peanuts x "brand", it wasn't Coach. I'm not keen on those cross branding or whatever they are called, I figure I'm paying 2 companies instead of one. If I wanted to show off my love of Peanuts, I would get some Charlie Brown stickers and put them on my Prada wallet or even on my cell phone. I guess Coach is trying to make itself seen as a desirable brand again. I remember shopping at Costco years ago and every 2nd house frau had a Coach purse all looked the same. That said, I'm a big ol label slave but the product has to be good quality, classic and not covered with logo, a discreet label is ok and I really only buy it if I need it (sometimes "need" means feeding my designer label habit). Congrats on your wallet OP I wish such things gave me the kind of joy that you seem to have purchased.

That is really cute OP, so yeah, I'll admit to some jealousy. I, too, have rekindled my previous love affair with Coach. Its leathers are really soft and beautiful and their sturdy construction from the past seems to continue. Like someone said above, it's way too under-appreciated. However, I think that's a good thing, in that people who actually appreciate a good leather product know that about coach; the unwashed masses keep clinging to brands considered higher-end but are not even remotely close in quality to what they used to be.

R20, LV is garbage now. I bought a leather notebook/agenda from them this past fall for some $700+ and the interior metal binding has already come apart/snapped off, causing the other smaller parts to fall off. LV may be more expensive but that entire company is a total mess right now. I would return it but I've already had a huge hassle trying to get an old item repaired and the sales staff/company just doesn't give a fuck unless you're buying a new crappy product. To whit, my sister bought som ungodly expensive bag, close to $3000, and a matching wallet, over $1k, last xmas and they're both wearing terribly, sticking coming apart and the painted trims on the wallet wearing at the corners. LV used to have awesome products but they don't anymore. And anyone truly into high-quality leather goods knows that and acknowledges it. I still buy LV for the prestige (I hang out with a lot of basic bitches, my sis included), but I do not at all con myself into believing the products are worthy expenditures.

R30 is Prada still any good? I used to love that minimalist look and have a few things by them that have worn well, but it's been years since I've purchased anything (mainly because their products last forever, same with Coach).

I don't know anything about Coach specifically (personally, I don't see a lot of people with it), but market research from the past decade or so shows that wealthier Americans are veering back towards American, heritage-type brands across all sectors, including fashion . While certain foreign, higher-end brands do still have certain amount of prestige, the fact that they're churning out mass-manufactured crap that's consumed by a poorer and less-polished demographic is unappealing to past buyers. And really, anecdotally speaking, you go into a designer boutique these days and it's all very young, mostly non-white people purchasing these foreign designer goods. That's not to say that minorities or young people can't have money to splurge, but individually they're not spending huge amounts. As a group, they have incredible buying-power however.

Coach and Dooney & Bourke used to be very good quality mid-range products. I loved my Dooney & Bourke bags which I first started using in the mid 1980s. I must not have looked at the rather discreet label they used then because I had no idea what brand I bought - I got it because the shoulder strap fit me perfectly, it was indestructible pebble leather and it had all the pockets I needed especially on the outside. A law school colleague, much more status savvy than I was, asked if it was a D&B and I didn't know but she did.

As the bag wore, I ended up replacing it a few times and I still have a beloved beat up D&B beautiful butterscotch draw string bag which is impossible for finding things but is big enough to hold extra shoes, small umbrella etc. At some point I started getting black Coach shoulder bags instead because they had the same outside pockets with a perfect fitting should strap and seemed a bit more professional looking. But sadly no weatherproof leather. None of these bags were that expensive - in the mid $200s - maybe even only $185 or so with my first D&B.

All that to say these were very well made and lasted. I mean really lasted. They were also very practical with pockets. I just jumped up to look in my closet and there they still are - still all usable but some a bit more beat up. Maybe I should sell them.

But also to say that the quality has diminished along the way. I notice maybe 20 years ago that the Coach straps were narrower and somethings just not the same quality. Same with the D&B merchandise.

OP, just an addendum to this Epistle to the Purse Lovers. Have fun and enjoy your purchase. When I went to my closet there sitting on the shelf in a cloth bag is a beautiful WHITE large Italian pebble leather purse I just had to have one summer - I thought I would look sophisticated and like I belonged on the Riviera instead of in this suffocating city. The reality is I have used it maybe three times because I was always afraid of damaging it - the first time I carried it I got an ugly mark that is highly visible. So that was a stupid purchase for me.

Coach used to fix your bags when they ran into issues, stitching, straps. You could contact them, box them up & send them in. They even paid the return shipping. The stood by their product 100%. Not now, for sure!
