Retrospective - Boy Meets Boy

What a horrific show. Horrific idea, horrific subject. Just one big hot mess.

Remember the gay guy's fag hag when she found out the premise of the show? She bounced around the room, tits flopping, screaming, "This is bullshit!"

So a gay guy could just lie and say he’s straight just to win the money, right?

R1 MadTV did sketches where said floppy-tit hag was the center of all the action. Now THERE was a woman who should've had her own show. Fucking mess.

James Getzlaff, the "Boy" of this show, did have a short-lived acting career in gay independent films. He sucked at it. He had a part in "Another Gay Movie," where he got his ass eaten and then DP'ed the main character at a party.

MAD TV spoofed the show.

Ups, here's the actual spoof of the show, the previous one was just making fun of Andra.

Luckily, another project has usurped the title.

Miss Coco Peru had a great bit in her act about ANDRA's meltdown back in the day.

If memory serves, this show debuted on Bravo network the same time as the original Queer Eye For the Straight Guy. They aired back to back.

Franklin was the straight guy who was one of the remaining three contestants. It was very clear that James was going to pick him, but before the final elimination it was revealed that one of the three contestants was straight. James correctly guessed that it was Franklin and so he chose Wes instead, who was actually his second choice.

It was a very ugly show and could never be made today. It did no favors to gay men and their perceptions of who they are attracted to. Of the three remaining contestants, Wes and the other guy were clearly gay. They weren’t flamboyant or anything and I don’t mean this in any negative way, but you just knew they were gay, whereas Franklin “acted very straight” and was the one to whom James was the most attracted. Yikes!

this show was hilariously camp

What do you mean with today?

Prince Charming was a stupid show, but stupid in the genre of most stupid reality shows with awful people. It was the BMB twist, i.e., to fool the contestant into thinking he was going to get to pick the "man of his dreams" only realize he may be straight, that wouldn't fly today. There would be an outcry today of homophobia claims (and rightly so) against the network.

The producers of BMB were extremely manipulative. Each week when it came time to choose which guys would remain and which would go, they first arranged them into groups of 3 or 4 men and made sure each group secretly included a straight guy, and James had to eliminate one from each group instead of from the whole, in order to assure that one straight guy would make it to the finals.

r13, You think the guys from Prince Charming signed up for being paired up with a common prostitute? Whether the production knew or not what Robert Sepúlveda Jr. really was is beside the point, the contestants were still tricked, misled and humiliated.

I preferred Gay, Straight, or Taken (Lifetime), wherein a woman gets to pick from one of 3 guys, not knowing who’s G, S, or T. It was really funny & one of the guys (Mike) was from Big Brother & was inadvertently pegged as gay, after the woman searched his car & found tons of flyers from a gay bar (I think he was a party promoter & was actually straight)

The very cute blond guy you’re referring to is Dan Wells, an actor (Days of our Lives -played Sami Brady disguised as a man named Stan for months; Will and Grace, etc.) and fitness trainer. He has 5 kids now.

What a hairy turd of a show.

I always forget this show, and mix it up with the trans dating show with Calpernia Addams, thinking she's the best friend of the one main guy on "Boy Meets Boy", when it was (in fact) an entirely different show.

My boyfriend and I loved it at the time. It was dumb and hokey but it it was a gay reality show when there wasn't anything else out there.
