Tricia O'Neil played a lawyer on Dynasty who crossed examined Alexis and she tried to discredit her by pointing out her ever changing surnames...'Mrs. Colby Dexter Colby"

Always thought she would have been bigger; she'd have played a great strong bitch on a nighttime soap.

by Anonymousreply 55February 9, 2022 3:21 AM

The prostitute who hated Freddy the Pizza freak in the episode where the Angels go undercover in a whorehouse condo complex.

by Anonymousreply 56February 9, 2022 11:55 AM

Gary Collins always played sleazebags on Charlie’s Angels. In season three he kidnaps Special Guest Star Farrah and that brat she was babysitting, and in season four he’s a college professor running a white slavery ring.

by Anonymousreply 57February 9, 2022 6:03 PM

I can just imagine how much of a nightmare Farrah must've been on set during her forced special appearances in seasons 2-4. She probably totally thumbed her nose at Cheryl and Shelley. Have either of them ever talked about working with her in those episodes?

by Anonymousreply 60February 9, 2022 8:29 PM

DL fave and future Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland as a scary inmate.

by Anonymousreply 61February 9, 2022 8:33 PM

I think all those young trampy starlets like Kirkland, Kim Basinger, Audrey Landers, Elissa Leeds etc. that they used used in season 2 and 3, were from the reject pile for the Kris Munroe role that Ladd had won.

by Anonymousreply 62February 9, 2022 9:52 PM

R61 ol Sally was also a taxi cab company owner in season 5. Ugly.

by Anonymousreply 63February 9, 2022 10:15 PM

Kirkland was never a contender for an Angel role. Kim Basinger was a contender for the role that went to Cheryl Ladd

by Anonymousreply 64February 9, 2022 10:16 PM

R60 jealousy is ugly.

by Anonymousreply 65February 9, 2022 10:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 66February 9, 2022 10:19 PM

R64, Kim was never a contender. She was offered the role but wisely turned it down. The Angels in Chains storyline had her working in the office but was never mentioned again.

by Anonymousreply 67February 9, 2022 10:22 PM

I cannot believe we are this far in the thread and nobody named Kelly Garrett's (AKA Jaclyn Smith's) FINE ASS ex-husband Dennis Cole! He appeared in several episodes as different characters. They met on the set. of Charlie's Angels.

by Anonymousreply 69February 9, 2022 11:06 PM

Al l these pretty guest stars could never hold a candle to the angels. The angels all had that something extra that makes the show watchable even today.

by Anonymousreply 70February 9, 2022 11:26 PM

What about uglies like Zora and Big Aggie?

by Anonymousreply 71February 9, 2022 11:28 PM

From the trivia section of "Toni's Boys":

[quote]With one of her behind-the-scenes tormentors absent (Ed J. Lakso---the other being Cheryl Ladd), and with Katharyn Powers at the writing helm, once again, Shelley Hack delivers yet another compelling performance. The season finale---and following title---is split in two, which pretty much, once again, relinquished Tiffany to the backdrop. A newfound surge of appreciation for Shelley's Tiffany among viewers has seen Season 4 become quite popular in the syndication reruns, since 2016.

How and why did Ladd "torment" poor Shelley Hack?

Did she want to pass on the evilness that Kate Jackson extended her?

by Anonymousreply 72February 9, 2022 11:32 PM

Poor Shelley my brown-eye! She held her own just fine.

by Anonymousreply 73February 9, 2022 11:34 PM

R72 Ladd was a bitch behind the scenes. Jealous of the original Angels and jealous of the new Angels, too. She badmouthed Jackson and bullied Hack. Whatever strategy worked best for the short sneaky Angel. And then there was Lakso who favored her. And boy did he hate Tiffany Welles.

by Anonymousreply 74February 9, 2022 11:49 PM

R67, she already had her own show "Dog and Cat". Why would she take a second banana gig.

by Anonymousreply 75February 10, 2022 12:19 AM

Ladd on the other hand was a true unknown.

by Anonymousreply 76February 10, 2022 12:20 AM

Bianca, Julie's untrustworthy scuba diving "friend" from Angels in the Deep, is a memorable one.

by Anonymousreply 77February 10, 2022 12:23 AM

I wish Spelling had tapped into the characters and used them on DYNASTY.

Alexis could have hired Tiffany Welles in her scheme against Blake. "I wanted you to spy on my ex-husband Miss Welles -- not sleep with him!"

by Anonymousreply 78February 10, 2022 12:24 AM

R78, at least Sabrina's/Tiffany's/Julie's Pinto was on Dynasty as it became Sammi Jo's car.

by Anonymousreply 79February 10, 2022 12:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 80February 10, 2022 12:37 AM

I remember taking "Angels in Chains" out of the library in Grade 6. And was so heartbroken that they didn't have all the fucking Charlie's Angels episodes in book format!!!

by Anonymousreply 81February 10, 2022 12:51 AM

Let's not forget Jaclyn Smith in a dual role as Kelly Garrett and murder victim, fabulous model Dana Cameron!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 82February 10, 2022 1:04 AM

the show didn't go to No 1 until Season 2 when Cheryl came on. She and Shelley were perfectly fine additions to the cast.

But I can see where the original trio was especially unique and special and people responded to them the way they did.

Still, Kate not liking Cheryl (or so it seems) seems odd.

The problem with this show was the writing; the show never delved into the backstories of the Angels past the first season -- we met Sabrina's ex and her dad. We later learned Jill had a sister, but what about their parents? Were there any other siblings?

Who were Kelly's biological parents? Was that tied into why they never saw Charlie?

Why the heck did they make Julie a model when she looked like a cop the most?

Why did Leilani Sako call them 'Charlie Angels' instead of 'Charlie's Angels'?

by Anonymousreply 83February 10, 2022 5:11 AM

Interesting re: Ladd and Hack, because on the later behind-the-scenes talking head specials, Cheryl is very kind in how she discusses Hack and says SH got blamed for a lot of things she didn't deserve. Who knows if that Toni's Boys source is accurate. Both Jaclyn and Cheryl choose their words carefully about Shelley and Tanya, but anything they say is kind toward the two last Angels.

"Can you imagine getting fired from Charlie's Angels for not being a good enough actress?"

by Anonymousreply 84February 10, 2022 5:27 AM

Shelley Hack was underrated.

by Anonymousreply 85February 10, 2022 5:33 AM

I've written this before but Aaron should have told his showrunners to let Kate out for the time it would have taken for her to shoot Kramer vs. Karmer.

Sabrina gets kidnapped; Charlie tells Kris and Kelly that they're going to have to team up with a guest Angel every week as they get closer to the villain (hire a big name) who kidnapped Sabrina. Jayne Kennedy, and whoever else was up for a role could have guested. Write in Farrah's returns into the show. They get closer each week and then something happens where they take a step back.

They could find Sabrina in the finale or whenever she was free to come back -- Feb. sweeps -- and they all take down the bad guy.

They stuck to the formula of new angel, new bad guys, wrap up the case at the end of the episode. There were rare departures from this format. I thought the Kelly and Kris each falling for Bobby Ewing was interesting. Kelly being a dead ringer for Margaret Barrows' mother and yet not being her daughter seemed like a cheat. How was that resemblance explained? A coincidence?

by Anonymousreply 86February 10, 2022 5:39 AM

Big Aggie wore dispers

by Anonymousreply 87February 10, 2022 5:54 AM

Could Kate's dislike for Cheryl simply be because she 1) was friends with farrah and 2) thought Farrah was a better actress, more charisma, and more chemistry with her and Jaclyn (which is true!) and nothing more?

by Anonymousreply 88February 10, 2022 12:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 91February 10, 2022 1:31 PM

Cheryl has always been a big time Republican. Kate never was.

Shelley was a tall, statuesque model. Cheryl never was.

by Anonymousreply 92February 10, 2022 2:10 PM

Kate wanted her Dark Shadows pal Lara Parker to replace Farrah, but Spelling wanted someone younger.

by Anonymousreply 93February 10, 2022 2:14 PM

It has been rumored that Joanna Cassidy auditioned for the Tiffany Welles part. She always has had a frosty presence to her (which she worked in her favor) but she might have been a decent fit as the brainy/slightly lez archetype that needed to be filled.

She guest starred as a baddie in Season 5 when the Angels were in Hawaii. Her character has a physical tussle with Kris which is hilarious. Cheryl Ladd, without a gun, orders her to stay down…and she does - even though she could have easily high kicked pint size Ladd to the moon! There used to be a GIF of this confrontation but I couldn’t find it.

by Anonymousreply 97February 11, 2022 8:01 AM

Playboy's Claudia Jennings was reportedly a finalist for Tiffany or whatever they were going to call her but the network balked at having an ex-Playmate as the Angel. Hack never would have been successful but their biggest problem was how similar she looked to Ladd. They were going for a different coloring with possibly Susie Coehlo, Persis Khambatta or Barbara Bach who was announced but then rejected.

by Anonymousreply 98February 11, 2022 1:09 PM

Hack was too femme. They needed an actress with more of a butch/dyke factor a la Kate to balance out Cheryl and Jac. That's why they went with Tanya Roberts in the final season, but she was a lousy actress and no chem with the other two ladies, and the show was on its last legs by that point anyway.

by Anonymousreply 99February 11, 2022 1:32 PM

R99 Shelley wasn’t a guest. She was principal cast. Next….

by Anonymousreply 100February 11, 2022 4:13 PM

R88, it could be that Kate liked Farrah better.

It could NOT be Kate thinking Farrah was a better actress.

Until Farrah got the Burning Bed, she sucked. She was never ever believable when the Angels went under cover.

She had big hair big tits, a flash smile; she was beautiful. But the reality is the show didn't go to No. 1 until Cheryl joined.

Shelley's a better actress than Farrah.

by Anonymousreply 101February 11, 2022 4:28 PM

Farrah wasn't even that pretty. Her face was not symmetrical, and was hard looking. But she had great hair, teeth, and tits. Kate and Jaclyn were much more naturally beautiful, though Kate had a masc quality about her.

by Anonymousreply 102February 11, 2022 4:55 PM

Kate Jackson was so stunning >>> R17

by Anonymousreply 103February 11, 2022 5:19 PM

It used to be said that Farrah was the one you wanted to fuck, Jaclyn was the one you wanted to marry, and Kate was the one you wanted to grab a beer with. It was a great formula. Spelling was a genius at this stuff.

by Anonymousreply 104February 11, 2022 5:32 PM

Frank Miller wrote a Daredevil graphic novel in which DD had kidnapped the Kingpin's beautiful wife Vanessa.

"I'm your friend," Daredevil told Vanessa.

"And I'm your prisoner," she replied.

He watched her sleeping and said she was like "Helen of Troy. Or Kate Jackson."

by Anonymousreply 105February 11, 2022 5:51 PM

Farrah was a better actress than Shelley. Yeah, that’s easy. But Farrah could act a little and she was special. Unlike Hack who was no actress and far from special. Not even likeable.

by Anonymousreply 106February 11, 2022 5:52 PM

Tiffany was sophisticated and classy.

I thought Jill would just gasp and jiggle her boobs when she'd play undercover characters.

by Anonymousreply 107February 11, 2022 5:53 PM

Tiffany had the highest IQ of all the Angels, but absolutely zero street smarts!

Her idea of a prostitute came from watching episodes of All My Children with her sorority sisters back in college. You can see in this photo a real hooker right behind her rolling her eyes at this mess!!!

by Anonymousreply 109February 11, 2022 9:48 PM

Angel in a Box, the season 3 Farrah Returns episode, has plot and continuity holes so big you could drive the Pinto through them.

It’s the one where Jill and Kris are kidnapped by the guy who played General Hospital’s Mikkos Cassadine, who is mad because his fairy son killed himself and he blames Jill for it, not realizing Jill was his fag hag.

Some of the worst examples of plot holes from this episode:

1.) Bosley says he’s at “7th and Grand” when we see a gigantic street sign next to his car that says “VICTORY BLVD.”

2.) Kris is kidnapped in broad daylight at gunpoint in a busy strip mall and the police aren’t called.

3.) The gang realizes the kidnapping is related to a resort in Malibu. They drive there at night with a pissy Jill and see the kidnappers, and just drive away, deciding to come back tomorrow.

4.) Bosley pretends to be English and adopts a horrible accent and fake facial hair more befitting of a community theater production in Nebraska than a network TV show.

5.) Sabrina is seen by the bad guy dressed as a maid with a bad French accent. Two minutes later she encounters him in her regular clothes and no accent and doesn’t seem bothered in the least that he may recognize her.

6.) Sabrina and Kelly are followed in the Pinto by this bad guy, and Sabrina does something to the car to make it sound like it’s backfiring-does the Pinto have secret devices to ward off attackers, like one of James Bond’s cars?

7.) Sabrina, Bosley and Kelly hop in the Pinto and give chase to Mikkos Cassadine, who is fleeing for Mexico with Jill, Kris and two henchmen, one of whom looks like Richard Kind. Jill and Kris give karate chops to Mikkos, Richard Kind and the other guy , and hop out of a moving station wagon traveling at what appears to be 60 mph. They don’t have any injuries from hopping out of a car at this speed, they don’t even have dust on their clothing.

8.) Mikkos Cassadine hops in a plane and the Angels shoot at it, getting the engine. We then spend 90 seconds watching the Angels watching the plane as it descends and watching Mikkos Cassadine pantomime fear and confusion.

It’s such a dumb episode but the car chase is great. Sabrina hauls ass in the Pinto. Tiffany just passively let bad guys run her off the road and we only got to see cokehead Julie in it twice.

by Anonymousreply 110February 12, 2022 12:15 AM

I like seeing Richard Kind get popped in the face and his reaction.

by Anonymousreply 111February 12, 2022 12:22 AM

Did Sada Thompson ever wind up doing a guest appearance. Her test for the role of Angel Lorraine has been written about extensively and though Tiffany wasn't technically the same part, it was Hack who got hired to replace Jackson and not Thompson. Though to be fair according to all involved the decision not to use Angel Lorraine was a mutual decision and so perhaps Sada didn't want to 'stir' thngs up on the set with her appearance, especially as the ratings dipped during Hack's tenure.

by Anonymousreply 112February 12, 2022 12:32 AM

One of the best things about the Hawaii episodes were that the Angels got to drive different cars than the Cobra, Mustang and Pinto.

by Anonymousreply 113February 12, 2022 12:34 AM

[quote] One of the best things about the Hawaii episodes were

by Anonymousreply 114February 12, 2022 12:46 AM

R108 Both of them look stupid but at least Kelly knew enough to throw those big titties out there!

by Anonymousreply 115February 12, 2022 1:19 AM

I liked Angels in chains, Angel Baby, Angels in Paradise, Angel in Love (that had to be one of the show's Kate was nominated for an Emmy for); I liked Toni's boys; the two-parter with Ray Milland, Patrick Duffy, and Robert Reed (it was different)...loved the pilot with Diana Muldar and Matthew Blaisdale. They FINALLY gave Tiff something to do where she had limited psychic powers.

The first season had the most depth, delving into the personal lives of the angels; the second season got off to a great start with Hawaii and the two-hour ice skating show.

I didn't care for the last season at all. Not just that Tanya (RIP) was my least favorite angel, I felt Hack had gotten the shaft and we were only going to get more of the same; rotating angels, cookie-cutter plots and resolutions.

by Anonymousreply 116February 12, 2022 4:15 AM

I liked Attack Angels from season 5. Seeing Julie in the water with electrodes attached to her heavily made-up face. Mr Reardon was Victor in the Young & The Restless. He was a great sexy villain. I liked seeing he and Julie fight to the end. It was soooo Charlie's Angels - Mr Reardon says to Julie after seeing Kris appear on the other side of the two-sided mirror "I see your friend has come looking for you". Julie responds "I'm not gonna share you with her". He plunges full-body towards Julie, she dashes to the side and he plunges through the mirror onto the floor where Kris gently steps over him wearing her high heels.

by Anonymousreply 117February 12, 2022 11:35 AM

R117, Attack Angels is a highlight of Season 5. So absurd and stupid that it's genius. BarBara Luna is fun in that as well as the doomed Cynthia.

by Anonymousreply 126February 12, 2022 7:22 PM

Wasn't there an episode where Bosley was fucking the mother from Please Don't Eat the Daisies? It's all very hazy, but I recall the Santa Monica pier being used as a backdrop in that episode.

R127 In "Angels In Waiting" I do believe it was implied that Bosley was eating Patricia Crowley's pussy!

by Anonymousreply 129February 12, 2022 8:00 PM

NO, Bosley just flirted with her, nothing more and she was sadly using him! POOR BOSLEY!

by the way, david doyle was universally loved by all of the angels and they sang his praises when he passed....the show would NOT have been the same without him..

seemed like a good guy both personally and professionally...

by Anonymousreply 130February 12, 2022 8:16 PM

It was implied Bosley was gay. I mean, how could any straight guy be around three beautiful women and not try to nail them?

by Anonymousreply 131February 12, 2022 8:20 PM

He was an uncle type to these women

by Anonymousreply 132February 12, 2022 8:28 PM

R131 Bosley was not gay. Charlie paid him not to nail them. I believe Charlie had cameras everywhere. He probably supplied Bosley with all the pussy he could handle.

by Anonymousreply 133February 12, 2022 8:35 PM

Hack's hair looks like it has a tequila rinse on it.

by Anonymousreply 134February 12, 2022 8:44 PM

In an early episode Bosley mentions a wife , who is never mentioned again.

We haven’t mentioned Marathon Angels-that’s the episode where Kate had a meltdown on set and screamed about the script, “I CAN’T DO THIS! THIS IS SHIT SHIT SHIT!”

Regarding the Asian Stewardess-the Angels are completely baffled when they find out Mei Ling’s last name is JOHNSON. Apparently they never heard of interracial marriage.

by Anonymousreply 135February 12, 2022 9:22 PM

One can't blame Kate for having a meltdown about Marathon Angels. That was awful. I like how at the end Kelly and Kris, who are in the marathon, suddenly produce their guns to go after the bad guys. Where were they carrying their guns while running? Inside their vaginas?

by Anonymousreply 136February 12, 2022 9:27 PM

Is the marathon episode the one with Sarah Purcell? That was really bad.

by Anonymousreply 137February 12, 2022 9:40 PM

The character Bosley wasn't gay, he was just a nerdy nice guy.. then again, he could get tough in a number of episodes when he held a gun and in backup with the angels capturing the bad guys...

by Anonymousreply 138February 12, 2022 11:44 PM

Frank Gorshin, of course!

by Anonymousreply 139February 13, 2022 1:17 AM

Bosley was straight. He stayed seated at his desk most of the time to hide the enormous boner he’d get each morning when Kris would come in with her titties bouncing all over the place.

by Anonymousreply 140February 13, 2022 1:19 AM

R61 probably Kim a singer I could see that, but Sally Kirkland was too old and ugly, Audrey Landers was probably too young and I don’t think the right type, and I don’t know what an Elissa Leeds is.

I bet the overlap between those who were up to replace Farrah Fawcett and those up to replace Suzanne Somers was huge:. The mind boggles.

by Anonymousreply 141February 13, 2022 1:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 142February 13, 2022 5:23 AM

Leeds is a successful talent manager in Hollywood now. She also played bitch Steffi on General Hospital. She killed the girl that Blackie went to prison over.

by Anonymousreply 143February 13, 2022 5:51 AM

Leeds was the original Brooke on All My Children, and played one of the teenage Hope Bauers on The Guiding Light.

by Anonymousreply 144February 13, 2022 6:51 AM

Kim Basinger was cute as an inmate but not a real beauty at that point. She still had a bit of baby fat and lacked energy and presence. Surprised she was even considered for the role when Farrah left.

by Anonymousreply 147February 13, 2022 9:10 AM

I was in love with Blackie Parrish. I don't remember Elisa Leeds at all, but more importantly, she doesn't look anywhere near the Angel's level of beauty. Charlie's Angels was smart not to cast her.

by Anonymousreply 148February 13, 2022 11:24 AM

oh god can't we talk about Zora?!

by Anonymousreply 149February 13, 2022 11:47 AM

Zora - physical therapist at Springtime Spa in California She’s big, ugly and is known to wear pink terry cloth separates while working at the Springtime Spa in Southern California. Her job title is physical therapist but she is also the big-ass-bitch at the spa with a penchant for criminal activity including murder. Old, wheelchair bound, nosy-ass, Norma paid Zora some quick cash to electrocute her old Hollywood rival while she was sitting in a jacuzzi alone one night. See, Zora is one of the greediest individuals I’ve ever known. She seems to have an extreme dislike for attractive blonde private detectives who resemble Cheryl Ladd. Be on the lookout for Zora, guys. She’s currently at large and the bitch can move pretty fast whenever provoked.

by Anonymousreply 150February 13, 2022 11:48 AM

Too bad Zora and Big Aggie never joined forces. Together they would have been something to reckon with.

by Anonymousreply 151February 13, 2022 12:16 PM

Zora also played the bitch on wheels gym teacher in "Porky's" when she told off horny kim cattrall's character and how she was going to fire her for "mortal turpitude".. all because she howled loudly when getting screwed!..

too bad, cattrall's assistant character didn't screwed by that stud student "MEAT" instead of the plain looking assistant basketball coach in that scene!...

by Anonymousreply 162February 13, 2022 5:34 PM

Lmao r162

by Anonymousreply 163February 14, 2022 12:35 AM

Kate was livid when Barney Rosenzweig quit half-way through the first season. She thought his scripts were somewhat intelligent, but either the network and/or Spelling wanted him gone because they wanted to dumb down the scripts to emphasize the jiggle factor.

by Anonymousreply 164February 14, 2022 2:41 AM

R164, Back then the tabloids were full of stories of the actors complaining about how bad the scripts were, and back then I thought, "some people always complain," but watching the show today I think "you know what? They're right!" Even for what they were doing, they could have done it so, so much better--and that starts with the writing. Good writing would have lifted the show to another level. And even though they're not the best actresses in the world, when they have a well-written scene, they rise to the challenge. It's the schlocky, mawkish scripts that show their acting limitations, because they need better actors to make them ring true, and they don't.

I don't like that there's never really any mystery, they very often show the villain in the opening scene, panning up to the face after showing the crime. If the audience knows who the villain is all along, that makes the show a pursuit show as opposed to a whodunit show.

One thing Kate should always get respect for is getting an Emmy and a Golden Globe nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series...from Charlie's Angels!

by Anonymousreply 165February 15, 2022 6:36 PM

Aaron Spelling and Kate should have teamed up years later to do a Sabrina Duncan spinoff. Kate could have been made a producer so she’d have had more creative control. It would have had a built in audience already, and if they got a team of decent writers it might have pulled in the Murder She Wrote type fans too.

by Anonymousreply 166February 15, 2022 7:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 185February 16, 2022 2:03 PM

R174 I always think it is kinda a cheap shot when people say "Kate Jackson was the best actress." Well, of course she was. Nobody ever argued that she wasn't. She came off a hit TV show whereas the other two were basically models. But it was an ensemble cast and clearly it took all three of them to make it work. So they all deserve credit.

by Anonymousreply 186February 16, 2022 2:10 PM

They were all competent. Farah Fawcett had to prove she wasn't a blonde bimbo, which she did, right down to the burning bed TV movie.

by Anonymousreply 187February 16, 2022 2:13 PM

Kate was the best overall actress in terms of comedy and light drama…but I can’t see her pulling off the heavy dramatic and emotionally draining material that Farrah tacked in her post-CA career.

by Anonymousreply 188February 16, 2022 2:15 PM

R187 Farrah was excellent in The Burning Bed.

R188 Kate was excellent in Making Love.

I wouldn't compare the two movies as they are apples in oranges but I think all three original "Angels" were very competent.

Things began to slip with the replacement Angels. Ladd and Roberts were "OK" but Shelley Hack clearly did not belong on the show. She was way out of her element.

by Anonymousreply 189February 16, 2022 2:27 PM

Hack couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, agreed. Roberts later proved a light touch with comedy, surprising everyone. Ladd and Smith made their careers out of TV movies for a time. Smith always sounded like she was an accountant giving a lecture. Fawcett is arguably the most famous out of all of them.

by Anonymousreply 190February 16, 2022 2:33 PM

R190 I don't disagree with any of that. Kelly tried very hard but never could fully shake her Texas accent, hence the "accountant voice." 😂

by Anonymousreply 191February 16, 2022 2:39 PM

She was the most beautiful out of all of them, too. Classic bone structure.

by Anonymousreply 192February 16, 2022 2:42 PM

Kate had perfect bone structure. Jaclyn's wasn't bad either. But she was dull. Her voice was dull. Her acting. Frankly she landed that role thanks to her Barbie Doll beauty and her willingness to don a bikini. Unlike Kate and Farrah, Jaclyn lacked charisma. She wasn't much of an actress (although Hack and Roberts were worse). Her lines sounded rehearsed. She had maybe three or four facial expressions. But there was the friendship with Kate and Farrah that was special. They had a chemistry that is rare in the business.

by Anonymousreply 193February 16, 2022 4:52 PM

I always like to imagine Jaclyn Smith and Dierdre Hall workshopping scenes from Ibsen and Chekov together and then giving each other acting notes.

by Anonymousreply 194February 17, 2022 12:11 AM

Melody Thomas Scott was a guest on The Sandcastle Murders, but she was killed off after one scene. I believe Allan Feinstein (from Looking for Mr Goodbar) also guested on that.

Of course, Bruce Watson, as the infamous Margo, was my fave.

by Anonymousreply 195February 17, 2022 12:22 AM

I enjoyed Too Tall Paula on that episode where Kris and Kelly go undercover as students at a stewardess school. The actress who played Too Tall Paula did a couple of other Charlie's Angels episodes as well, including Chorus Line Angels as the stripper trying to make it in show biz.

by Anonymousreply 196February 17, 2022 12:23 AM

I wonder if they intentionally did Emmy-bait episodes, like the one where Kris had amnesia and Cheryl had to walk along the beach in a daze for an hour, or the one where someone got Kelly addicted to heroin and Jaclyn had to play strung out the entire episode?

by Anonymousreply 199February 17, 2022 3:20 AM

R199, the voice was annoying and the dialogue about the family not getting along was abysmal; the boy wasn't very good either.

he didn't act into the 1980s.

My favorite episode of Jaclyn's was the pilot; she held her own with Diana Muldar and Matthew Blaisedale ... it's almost as if she was better when she wasn't trying so hard.

She was horrible in the episode where she was kidnapped and the bad guys got her hooked on drugs; 'I"ll never forget what I've been through," she said at the end of the episode.

Sigh. Neither will we.

by Anonymousreply 200February 17, 2022 4:58 AM

Katie Hanley who was the original Marty in Grease on Broadway was on the Tanya Roberts debut episode. The only reason I remembered her was because her voice was so distinctive.

by Anonymousreply 201February 17, 2022 4:09 PM

Kate just sounds so bitter and angry. Nothing really worked for her post-CA, except Scarecrow and Mrs. King, which is largely forgotten. I think everyone expected her Baby Boom series to be a huge success, but it flopped big, She was no Diane Keaton.

What was the episode where Kris (Ladd) went to a disco/bar and saw 3 guys eyeing her because one of them (or all 3 of them? laugh) was going to screw her that night in the hope that they would impregnate her that night?... One guy does go with her to a hotel room and we find out that he was set-up too, and of course doesn't go thru with it...

by Anonymousreply 214February 18, 2022 3:53 PM

One of my favorite episodes is Angel Blues-it’s from season 2, a country star is murdered and the Angels trace the steps of her last night as she drove around LA in a cab.

The cab driver was cute, Kris tried cocaine (testing it on her gums), and Kelly runs around in a fur vest shooting at the bad guys.

Fred Silverman saw the episode and called Aaron Soelling, screaming, “why the fuck is Jaclyn Smith wearing fur in the mud?”

by Anonymousreply 219February 18, 2022 5:35 PM

I have been told that I bear a strong resemblance to Miss Cheryl Ladd. Although my bosoms are perkier.

by Anonymousreply 220February 18, 2022 5:54 PM

R219 You have a good point. Tiffany's story made no sense. All I saw when I looked at Shelley Hack was a tall statuesque model. I did not see her as a rough and tumble cop who came through the police academy. Her whispery voice didn't help either. She was way too glamorous and couldn't sell being a former cop.

Even looking at the Show Intro you can see all of the Angels doing athletic things or with expressions of danger. They displayed this best in the Season 1 Intro. Most of Tiffany's pictures are glamor shots. It was just ridiculous. Unfortunately they leaned even further into the "model" aspect after she left the show. But at least Roberts was able to sell being tough and street smart. It became full on T and A TV which was the death nell for the series.

Most of the audience liked CA because these were smart tough broads who just happened to be beautiful. By the end of the series, nobody was believing theses elegant models were outsmarting and taking down hardened criminals. The suspension of disbelief became too extreme.

by Anonymousreply 221February 18, 2022 6:03 PM

R221 makes no sense at all. None of the actresses were tough, gritty or believable as former policewomen. BTW… Shelley Hack was a highly paid supermodel prior to joining the cast of Charlie’s Angels.

by Anonymousreply 222February 18, 2022 6:30 PM

R219 is super-stupid. Shelley Hack was hand picked by Aaron Spelling.

[quote] I thought Stephen Collins was cute.

The attraction might be mutual, if you're a girl 11 to 13 years old.

[quote] You hear Collins flatly confess to molesting an 11-year-old New York girl -- a relative of his first wife -- saying, "There was one moment of touching where her hand, I put her hand on my penis." He also acknowledges exposing himself to the girl "a couple of times" ... he says when she was 11, 12 and 13. Grant asks, "When you exposed yourself ... did you have an erection?" He responds, "No, I mean, no. Partial, maybe I think."

[quote] And then they talk about yet another girl. It's incredible ... Collins has trouble keeping the girls straight, but then he gets clear and confirms the incident. We're told this girl was also from New York and was between 12 and 13 at the time.

by Anonymousreply 225February 18, 2022 7:09 PM

R222 Nobody said anything about anyone being gritty. That is your word, not mine. I talked about them being smart and tough.

[Quote]Most of the audience liked CA because these were smart tough broads who just happened to be beautiful.

The original three and Cheryl Ladd look like they could get through the police academy. The others did not... particularly Shelley Hack who was tall, thin. She looked geeky and uncoordinated. She came off as sort of an airhead. I am very familiar with Shelley's modeling career in fact , they all were models before CA except Kate Jackson who already had a hit TV show under her belt and Cheryl Ladd who was a singer/actress. Shelley's big claim to fame was being the girl from the "Charlie's" Perfume commercials.

But see, this is where acting comes in. Shelley Hack was not a very good actress. They played to her strength as a model instead of creating and casting a character to fit the established show. Unlike when Ladd replaced Fawcett, the whole format changed when they brought in Shelley Hack. Despite the show doing very well (one of its best) with Hack, I believe it was the beginning of the end. Sometimes Hollywood tries to fix something that isn't broken. They should have stayed with the original concept. I believe the show was just catching on as they were bringing her in. I don't at all think she was responsible for any of the show's success. Despite Farrah only being on the show one season, she is the first Angel everyone thinks of and in her death is by far still the most famous!

In case I wasn't clear, Shelley Hack was a disaster.

[quote] The original three and Cheryl Ladd look like they could get through the police academy.

Steve Guttenberg’s police academy, maybe.

by Anonymousreply 227February 18, 2022 8:04 PM

R227

LAPD is not known for turning out superstars. If Mark Fuhrman did it surely they could get through it. LOL

by Anonymousreply 228February 18, 2022 8:28 PM

The biggest problem was that they were replacing Kate Jackson who was seen as the smart one, the actress. They replaced her with someone who was neither. The show was already in its last legs but if they put someone like Kate Mulgrew in, maybe it might have worked.

by Anonymousreply 229February 18, 2022 10:10 PM

The network was also looking at Barrie Youngfellow and Melinda Naud as Kate's replacement, but Spelling was intent on Shelley Hack.

by Anonymousreply 230February 18, 2022 10:50 PM

Shelley’s last name certainly suits her!

by Anonymousreply 231February 18, 2022 11:19 PM

Her last name is was ironic, actually. She's an underrated talent.

by Anonymousreply 232February 18, 2022 11:57 PM

R22 you’re living in a fantasy world

by Anonymousreply 233February 19, 2022 12:13 AM

R226 is ape shit stupid

by Anonymousreply 234February 19, 2022 12:14 AM

You bitches made me go back and watch this on Roku.

Angels on the Air is fun. Linda Dano is a news radio reporter being stalked. Kelly goes undercover pretending to be Linda, Sabrina goes undercover as a traffic reporter checking out the psycho Vietnam vet helicopter pilot, and Kris goes undercover trying to infiltrate a Manson like cult. It turns out Nicolas Coster is the villain and Kelly outruns him on the UCLA track. Also I like seeing Felicia Gallant and Lionel Lockridge together.

by Anonymousreply 235February 19, 2022 2:16 AM

John Forsythe had the cushiest job imaginable. He probably made a mint off the series, and never even had to memorize a damn line of dialogue.

by Anonymousreply 236February 19, 2022 2:19 AM

[Quote]And with the egos most actors had back in the day many wouldn't take an unseen role.

R236 He deserved every cent! He had the perfect voice for the role. With the egos of most actors, many big names wouldn't have taken an unseen role. I always liked John Forsythe. He had a reputation for being a delightful man. Plus he was a saint for putting up with Joan Collins bullshit in Dynasty.

by Anonymousreply 237February 19, 2022 12:25 PM

RJ Wagner owned a piece of this show.

by Anonymousreply 238February 19, 2022 12:30 PM

R236, that began because Jaclyn was once on Battle of the Network Stars and she was in the relay and smoked the competition. Even OJ who was doing the commentary noted "she's tearing up the track". They didn't know she could run like that so they put it into the series.

by Anonymousreply 239February 19, 2022 7:51 PM

That's correct R170. Kate Jackson got TWO Emmy noms for Charlie's Angels: 'Angel in Love' and 'Target: Angels'

by Anonymousreply 240February 20, 2022 12:21 AM

R240 nobody cared

by Anonymousreply 241February 20, 2022 12:28 AM

Kate would've hocked those Emmys and sold her mother into white slavery to have gotten M's K vs K oscar.

by Anonymousreply 242February 20, 2022 1:19 AM

R32 Kelly: Well, the skin tones are a bit off, but, otherwise...

R244 Even without the trademark mustache, Tom Selleck was still the finest in that montage of men.

Zora was my favorite because I had a hag that looked and acted just like her. I always felt safe when we’d go out at night.

R256 One of the most annoying characters.

by Anonymousreply 258August 11, 2022 1:27 PM

Ladd is a competent actress (and singer!) but she has no discernible personality beyond being earnest in a phony way all of the time.

by Anonymousreply 259August 11, 2022 1:43 PM

Dean Martin in Angels in Vegas. Yet Jackson was given some of the worst wardrobe I've ever seen for any girl in any movie or tv show. Martin never would've went for a girl dressed in those get ups. See 29:22. She's swimming in that dress.

The other best guest star in that ep was seeing the Tropicana in 1978.
