Aren't they just really good falsettos?
It is an acquired taste.

Haunting. Like hearing Benedictine Monks chant with hit classical tunes.

The “5 countertenors” without Philippe Jaroussky, Franco Fagioli and Jakub Josef Orlinski? Mmmm ok then *roll eyes*

Have they ever measured the testicles of great falsetto singers, or preserved them in formaldehyde post mordem for greater scientific understanding? Or is it still all in the diaphragm?

It's creepy. I'm not convinced singers don't damage their own chords.
[quote] Haunting.
And creepy. Benjamin Britten chose a countertenor voice to sing Oberon, the devious king of faeries who was determined to steal a pre-pubescent child.
Benjamin Britten creates a sonic world with a high voice, heavy breathing and pauses for this lyric—
[quote] I know a bank where the wild thyme blows, Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows. Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine, With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine…

What happened to David Daniels and his partner/husband? Did they go to trial? To jail? I assume his professional career is over?

R6 Daniels posted on Facebook a couple of days ago with a 30 year old picture, too. The commenters don't seem to mind and glorify him. Absolutely disgusting. I'm not aware he ever showed any remorse. And his voice has gone to shit shortly after the Handel Arias album (the one with the Oh Lord, whose mercies numberless), so I'm pretty sure he won't be professionally missed.

In Freshman Music Theory with David Daniels, we used to goad him into singing in falsetto, because he sounded so amazing. But he wouldn't do it often because his voice professor said it would hurt his vocal chords, I guess as long as he was going to remain a tenor. So I was surprised when he went with the higher voice full time.
