“Reacher” on Amazon viewing thread
I watched the first episode, this basically answers the question, “What if one of the Colt models starred in a small town detective procedural.”
Which means I absolutely loved it, the camera ogles Reacher’s Greek God body in every scene and his nipples look like they’re ready to cut glass thru his tee shirt. They also give Alan Ritchson plenty of opportunities to show how strong he is. I kept thinking how if I was an eleven year old boy, this would have turned me gay.

I kept seeing commercials for this and like my brain has some sort of uncanny valley thing with the guy who plays Reacher like he's a cgi creation or so my brain is telling me.

Alan Ritchson is one of the rare hunky actors who has Chad-like All-American good looks, but is actually from the US. A lot of times if you had a guy who looks like him in a role like this, he'd be British or Australian.

Ritchson appears to be a devoted dad to his three sons. There was a video he posted where they were staying on a house on location and one of the kids shot a projectile toy and wherever it landed, Alan managed to find it and brought it back to the kid.
How safe those kids must feel with a dad like that.
Ritchson raves about the wife/mom too.

OP I’ll watch it for that very reason…the body looks hypnotic and I enjoy being pandered to. Meanwhile, the production’s brigade of paid social media shills is in overdrive with the “10” ratings, elevating this piece of pretty poppycock to an overall rating higher than that of Mad Men, Jaws, and Citizen Kane.

I watched the second episode tonight, there is a scene where Ritchson has his arms folded behind his neck and if you have a big screen TV it fills up the entire frame in the most wonderful way possible. It’s just heavenly.

Tommy( I really have never in my whole life)Cruised, destroyed the character in the movies. So much of the story is his hugeness & super strength. This is awesome. Hope they do more seasons.

The books take place in all different places. Lee Child is a British author, but captures American military, America really well. An English friend who has similar tastes recommended it. Real page turner, good action suspense. The books on CD are great if you have to do a long trip. Used them for a trip to the Outer Banks from NY. Put in tapes, boom next thing I was there! Even my husband got into the CDs on the trip.
May start the series again, its been ages since I read them..

The setting always changes, but if they're going to continue filming in Canada, as they did season 1, it matters little.

I just bought the very first Lee Child book of that character "killing floor"... I wonder if the books need to be read in order or does it matter?
So the entire series is available for binge watching huh?
Here's hoping that the next season, will see Ritchison as Jack Reacher do some really scorching hot soft porn sex scenes!!.. and alot of nudity too!..

Yes, just Goggle the order of books & do read them in order. Most libraries have the books, altho. there may be a run on them now. The CD's are a great listen if you have to do boring commute. Also the ones you can put on ipod are great when doing that vacuuming you've neglected.

Well, to be fair, Child wrote the Reacher character in his novels as extremely phsyical. In the novels, he's actually bigger - 6'5"/250 lbs - than Ritchson who is 6'2" - he just seems so much bigger because a lot of actors are actually short.

Love the books. Perfect airplane reading, and a lot of "serious" writers are Lee Child fans. The New Yorker did a flattering profile of Child a while back. I see that the books are now being co-written with his younger brother; anyone read those? Are the quality of the last books maintained?
Child does a quick cameo in one of the later Amazon eps. As Reacher is walking in a diner, Child is walking out; Reacher does a quick double take. (Child looks terrible.)
I was very skeptical about the series, but think it's great. Manages to capture the tone of the books very well. The Reacher I imagined while reading wasn't quite as boyishly cute as Ritchson, but I'm not complaining.

I sort of like the fact that the older version is having a better career than the younger version.
Also, as much as DLers (myself included) like the added muscle, the majority of people seem to prefer a less beefy, like his younger version.

I’ve read all of the novels, and this guy is perfect. He’s the right age to start the series, too, because 38 or 39 is about how old Reacher was supposed to be in the first book. And in the novels he more or less ages in real time, which is nice, because the character changes and matures. 50-something Reacher in the more recent books is a lot different from younger Reacher in the first 10 or so.

R119.. perhaps cruise was counting on the majority? of those who go see his movies 1) go to see him no matter what and 2) had never read or even heard of the jack reacher character?
I think cruise himself was interviewed and asked about the physical disparity of him and the jack reacher character and he agreed to it, but said that reacher was more than just the physical and cruise was trying to embody his persona, manner, character, knowing he couldn't pull of the size ingredient factor...

Can't really hate -on Tom for the attempt. If you get into the books, you get hooked. To as an Action Hero actor just fell into the magic. Too bad no one advised him better. Really his size & sheer strength is part & parcel of the character.
Tom was right that the more you read the books, Reacher really is Sherlock Homeless, as someone described him. He has this amazing super analytical detective's brain like Holmes. You get the full impact of that as you go along in the books.
Love, love, loving the Amazon series..

If you weren't aware of the original books and description of Reacher, it was a typical Cruise character and he played him in typical Cruise fashion.
It was fine, but generic action hero.

Watched the first ep, Ritchson is charismatic enough in the role. The prison fight was the highlight of a rather dull story about a corrupt small town. The token black character didn't have to be that annoying, did he? The murder mystery was kind of meh.

[quote]Alan Ritchson is one of the rare hunky actors who has Chad-like All-American good looks, but is actually from the US. A lot of times if you had a guy who looks like him in a role like this, he'd be British or Australian.
There are plenty of Americans who look like that, It's just that Hollywood has become anti-America since they shifted far-left within the past 10 or so years and don't care about grooming homegrown talent anymore. I mean, Chris Hemsworth and Margot Robbie were plucked from Aussie soaps. WTF? Remember when US stars like Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, Meg Ryan, Tom Selleck, etc. started out on soaps? Now that's a deadend job here.
I have friends who are starting to support Republican candidates partly because of the many foreigners in American films/TV. They say that at last they are pro-America and want to preserve what we have.. On the other hand, Democrats are pro-foreigners these days and want to completely overhaul the US. I think this will bite liberals/Democrats in the ass in the long run, because most Americans are traditional, even if they don't yet identify as conservative. I didn't realize I was traditional/conservative in several aspects until the far-left geared its ugly head.

LOL - get better friends.
What sort of imbeciles would support a political party because "foreigners" are in "American" films and TV.
So, just to clarify, they would not be fine with Simu Liu in Shang Chi, an American Marvel movie, because he's Canadian or because he's Asian?
I could almost understand the logic of the idiots who scream about "illegal immigrants" taking American jobs, except for the problem that you wouldn't find too many "Americans" willing to be farm labor or other jobs that most of the so-called illegal immigrants take or that Americans are qualified for the majority of H-1B visa jobs or that the H-1B visa people "take" jobs because they are cheaper, rather than costing MORE.

Big fan of the books and I really enjoyed this series. I felt like the whole casting was spot on. I felt like the changes they made (mostly to flesh out parts and prob add enough material for an entire season) was done well. It seemed otherwise true to the book and I liked the flashbacks with Joe and the parents. And I agree, Alan's body was on display in many scenes. I didn't expect the boobies in the sex scene though. I look forward to season 2.

If you didn't read or didn't like the books you won't like or get the series. Also Killing Floor the first book in the Reacher books was not Woke, so to have this series digress into wokeness would not be true to the book. I also think Child's involvement(he is a producer)has helped to get this series on accurately portray the book on film, i.e. stay on task.
Hope it will be as good for Season 2.

It doesn't matter with a lot of adaptations or remakes, they'll squeeze in the Wokeness and forced lecturing/diversity even if it wasn't in the original source material. They did this with the recent Condor series.

Hopefully the second season will cover the second book, Die Trying, because in that one the bad guys are a bunch of right-wing, anti-government militia types. Reacher shaming, beating up, and killing those guys was immensely satisfying in the book, so seeing it brought to the screen would be incredible.

I just listened to an interview with Alan Ritchson on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast. Pleasantly surprised. He’s no dummy and also admits being suicidal a couple of years ago and getting treated for bi-polar disorder. He also went on a tangent about success and how once you get to the “top” there’s just nothing there - aside from money. It won’t fix your emotional problems or marriage problems (which he also talked about).
Seems like a really great guy and it’s made me enjoy the show that much more.

Ritchson was on the fourth hour of the Today Show. Great interview. He sang to Honda and Jenna after they showed an old clip of him singing to Paula Abdul on American Idol.
I’ve seen him on several shows over the past few weeks. He does a wonderful job. He’s open, frank, and funny.

Any idea when season 2 will start filming?.. Personally? I want season 2 to have 1) Ritchison even bigger, I want him EVEN MORE a mountain of muscle, maybe another 10 to 20 pounds worth and 2) I want him in a soft porn like sex scene more than one! laugh! the shower scene was disappointing besides seeing him wet....

I just hope that season two is adapted from book two of the series, because it’ll be fun to watch Reacher beat up and take out a bunch of right-wing, white nationalist MAGA militia types.

I'm trying to decide whether his face has the telltale signs of steroids (or HGH) with the accentuation of secondary male characteristics - more prominent eyebrow ridge, growth and elongation of the jaw - or whether the added bulk and weight in his body just added weight to his face.
Obviously, I realize he probably did use something to get this big.
What I'm wondering is whether the changes in the face are resulting from the same source.

"The setting always changes, but if they're going to continue filming in Canada, as they did season 1, it matters little. This may be the least convincing representation of Georgia ever committed to screen."
Smallville was filmed in Canada and it used to crack me up every time they showed that "Smallville, Kansas" sign. That was SO NOT Kansas.

For all this talk of diversity and representation and shit, if you cast a show with a hot AF white Alpha male you'll get ratings gold and a ton of buzz.

Years ago, he lost out on being a tv Aquaman after initially being cast in Smallville (?) for a few episodes.
Looking the way he does now and his performance as Reacher, he could easily have done Aquaman played as Momoa did with that same type of gruff no-bull attitude.
I wonder whether the comic book people are taking a second look and considering him.
I mean, who wouldn't want him in skin tight superhero costumes for an entire movie.
