Starz new series ‘Gaslit’ starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn
Omg. This sounds like a must see!!!
The series, which launches April 24, tells the story of Martha Mitchell (Roberts), the wife of Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell (Penn), who is the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate.
However, the team behind the series said that it’s not a “girlboss overcorrect of history” or a “Wikipedia rundown” of events behind the taking down of a President.
The series focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal – from Nixon’s bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.

Regurgitated 20th century history as a vehicle for old movie stars. Shocked this isn’t Ryan Murphy.

I am officially over Watergate. I never want to hear about it again. Tell another story instead of the same old same old.

Julia does have a big mouth. Maybe she can play Martha Raye next.

The makeup on Penn looks great, but the eyes shouldn't have been left untouched. They're too young (which is saying a lot, given it's Penn). He needed some kind of contact lenses to complete the look.

Interesting: Martha Mitchell died of cancer at 57, and then she was played in "Nixon" by Madeline Kahn, who also died of cancer at 57.
I would like to point out that Julia Roberts is 54.

Starz? I've never met anyone who has Starz.
Poor Julia has sunk to this?

Will this have an eye on the Trump years?
All those underlings who could right a huge wrong but won’t, and what that will ultimately cost them?

Looks great, and it’s very well cast. The good thing is, nos that Julia’s is coming out, hopefully it means we won’t have to suffer through Meryl’s version.

Fun fact, Danny Moder Roberts was the DP for the last movie Sean Penn directed. Just buddies having with buddies. That said the the trailer looks fun.

I can't watch anything with Penn. He's a terrible person.

It's a great teaser. Interesting she still gets top billing. I know her company is producing it but he's a very big star. Women really get top billing. Her name is abundantly first. And Sean Penn still did it. That's a pretty big deal.

It looks quite interesting. Unfortunately, as someone upthread pointed out, who has Starz?

Why is it on Starz? Those are two massive stars? It has to be money related somewhere.

R14 did you think her own production company was attempting to tell a story about a gu? Its very obviously a vehicle for her. And she looks good in the trailer. Sean Penn is her buddy and gets to play.

Watergate remains a fascinating story. The deeper you dig into all the stuff that happened the more fascinating it gets.
It's the best soap opera story ever written, a Shakespearean tragedy almost. And I'm sure the GQP still to this day has never forgiven the democrats for bringing down their president. And they have never forgotten the humiliation of trying to bring down Bill Clinton and failing.
Democrats: 2
Republicans: 0

Really good so far. Watergate was before my time but I've always been interested in the total insanity of it all. I didn't know John Dean fucked around with call girls.

I liked the first episode, but the prosthetics/make up on Penn is a bit distracting.

Watching G. Gordon Liddy have a flip out in John Dean's office was hilarious. LIddy came and spoke at the college I attended. Weird and scary and all sorts of psychological issues.
The devices on Sean Penn is kind of amazing. for some reason I feel like his eyes are open and more clear with the make up.

Raymond Liddy is now the most compelling and loveable character in the show.

r14, Julia Roberts has been bigger than Sean Penn and most stars period since at least 1996. I would argue that she is still the biggest female movie star on the planet with JLO and Angelina as very close seconds.

The two biggest female box office stars right how are ScarJo and Jennifer Lawrence.

r51, Thats right now. For example, Michael B. Jordan is currently a bigger box office draw than Will Smith but that doesn't make him a bigger star than Will Smith.

I'm enjoying this if not to just put everything together as to what happened. I'm more easily understanding just how bat-shit crazy this all was. It also goes to show how much more easily Republicans get away with this crap, even when they get caught. Ultimately, this did nothing to soil the Republican Party. High gas prices and a hostage crisis that didn't go Carter's way got them back in just a short while later. Crazy.
