I realize that someone else posted about this, but it nowhere in the title was Rock and Roll HOF mentioned, so it could not be properly searched. Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 1February 2, 2022 2:30 PM

The RRHOF is a piece of shit organization that needs to be cancelled. They mainly honor white, male musicians.

FUCK THEM.

They need to be as cancelled as the Hollywood Foreign Press.

by Anonymousreply 2February 2, 2022 2:50 PM

silly

Eurythmics, Duran Duran and The NY Dolls will blow the Gen Z minds.

We played with gender in a healthier way, kidz.

by Anonymousreply 5March 3, 2022 11:35 AM

They are Inducting adult contemporary artists now?? Lionel Richie of all people? The fuck. Gloria Estefan can’t be fat behind.

by Anonymousreply 6March 3, 2022 11:36 AM

*far

by Anonymousreply 7March 3, 2022 11:36 AM

After Madonna was inducted, I stopped caring about this meaningless "honor". And I genuinely hope that IF they ever deign to nominate Cher, that she tells them all to go fuck themselves.

by Anonymousreply 8March 3, 2022 11:56 AM

Judas Priest isnt in the RHOF? Have they not heard Screaming for Vengeance?

by Anonymousreply 9March 3, 2022 12:07 PM

PAT BENATAR deserved this years ago. How is Dolly Parton even being considered??? She is country/pop at best.

by Anonymousreply 10March 3, 2022 12:17 PM

Devo, MC5, New York Dolls, Dolly Parton are the ones that should have been in a long time ago. How the hell is Dolly being nominated only now, for the first time?

by Anonymousreply 11March 3, 2022 12:33 PM

R4 What a moronic list. So they out Dolly Parton at number 8 cause she's not "rock'n'roll" but Eminem at number 1, cause he is?

by Anonymousreply 12March 3, 2022 12:35 PM

Love Dolly, but she's got zilch to do with rock. They might as well nominate Olivia Newton John and Debby Boone.

by Anonymousreply 13March 3, 2022 12:36 PM

R13 Really? Country and rock are that far apart? They nominated Eminem, for fuck's sake. RnR HoF is full of rappers and people like Madonna, but you are complaining about Dolly, who's music isn't that far from rock music. She's a lot more RnR than Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Eminem, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie and many more

by Anonymousreply 14March 3, 2022 12:43 PM

Why don't they just induct everyone who ever had a hit song??!! It would be easier than this long, dragged-out, meaningless game that they play every year.

by Anonymousreply 15March 3, 2022 1:16 PM

It’s a shame that George Michael isn’t in there. He had many many hits. He wrote and produced 20 top 10 hits and 12. #1s.

by Anonymousreply 16March 3, 2022 1:21 PM

And where is Connie Francis' name? Massive error.

by Anonymousreply 17March 3, 2022 1:26 PM

It is really a crime that Judas Preiest has been eligible for 30 years and they are only getting inducted now. How disrespectful. They were instrumental to the metal sound and are credited with taking the “blues” out of heavy metal and giving it a thrashing sound that paved the way for metalica and others.

by Anonymousreply 18March 3, 2022 1:44 PM

RRHOF has always honored artists from genres closely related to rock. Country music is a direct parent of rock, along with blues and R&B. There's nothing unusual about Dolly's inclusion.

by Anonymousreply 19March 3, 2022 2:13 PM

Here are the current standings. Some good news: Duran Duran has overtaken Eminem and Beck has very little support.

by Anonymousreply 20March 3, 2022 2:24 PM

As I understand it the fan vote has no impact on who actually gets inducted. It's just to generate a buzz around the event.

Devo should definitely be in there; they may not have been a huge commercial concern, but they have been incredibly influential.

by Anonymousreply 21March 3, 2022 2:31 PM

Dolly belongs more than Carly Simon or Lionel Richie.

DEVO and Fela Kuti are both overdue.

by Anonymousreply 22March 3, 2022 2:37 PM

Pioneers Connie Francis and Pat Boone!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 23March 3, 2022 2:42 PM

Connie Francis should have been inducted a long time ago. NOW!!!

by Anonymousreply 24March 3, 2022 2:47 PM

Datalounge, the only place on earth that still gives a shit about Connie Francis.

by Anonymousreply 25March 3, 2022 2:48 PM

This is basically the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In Cleveland.

by Anonymousreply 26March 3, 2022 2:50 PM

Carly Simon was hugely influential as a singer/songwriter, and deserves to be in. Lionel Richie? Cher is more deserving.

by Anonymousreply 27March 3, 2022 2:54 PM

Beck (first-time nominee) - NO

Pat Benatar - YES

Kate Bush - YES

DEVO - YES

Duran Duran (first-time nominee) - YES

Eminem (first-time nominee, first-year eligible) - NO

Eurythmics - YES

Judas Priest - YES

Fela Kuti - YES

MC5 - YES

New York Dolls - YES

Dolly Parton (first-time nominee) - YES

Rage Against The Machine - YES

Lionel Richie (first-time nominee) - YES but the Commodores should be there.

Carly Simon (first-time nominee) - YES

A Tribe Called Quest (first-time nominee) - YES

Dionne Warwick - YES

by Anonymousreply 28March 3, 2022 3:01 PM

Dolly Parton should get in after Whitney Houston easily got in partly on the reputation of Dolly's songwriting.

by Anonymousreply 29March 3, 2022 3:05 PM

Until I see Claudine Longet on that list the RRHOF is DUST to moi!

by Anonymousreply 30March 3, 2022 4:24 PM

Dan Fogelberg

by Anonymousreply 31March 3, 2022 4:38 PM

R14 Enemeamin is crap. Dolly is NOT rock, neither is Dionne, who I also love. RAP is crap. Carly Simon is MOR, Easy Listening, love her too. Boys In The Trees, You Belong To Me are great songs.

by Anonymousreply 32March 3, 2022 4:53 PM

R20 Wussy pop of Duran Duran at the top and two of the most influential rock bands ever at the bottom? People really have no taste.

by Anonymousreply 33March 3, 2022 5:07 PM

R32 Country and Rock'n'roll are closely related. Both are guitar driven music. If Dolly isn't rock than neither are 3/4 of the bands and musicians in the RnR HoF

by Anonymousreply 34March 3, 2022 5:09 PM

I voted for at r20 link.

Devo, Kate, Pat , Eurythmics and Priest.

by Anonymousreply 35March 3, 2022 7:23 PM

CHIC is loooooooooooong overdue!

by Anonymousreply 36March 3, 2022 7:26 PM

Billy Idol has been overlooked again. Fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 37March 3, 2022 7:38 PM

Chic is too good for the RHoF.

by Anonymousreply 38March 4, 2022 12:01 AM

Dolly's influence runs wide and deep. John Lydon, Patti Smith, Sinead O Connor, Michelle n'dechello and Bjork have cited her as an influence.

by Anonymousreply 39March 4, 2022 12:05 AM

Pat Benatar won't accept unless her husband is equally billed - as if anyone gives a fuck about him.

by Anonymousreply 40March 4, 2022 12:09 AM

Paula Abdul was snubbed again.

by Anonymousreply 41March 4, 2022 12:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 43March 4, 2022 1:13 AM

I love Duran Duran but their music has not held up well.

by Anonymousreply 44March 4, 2022 1:26 AM

Oh it has too. Most of todays indie and pop is heavy on 80s sound.

by Anonymousreply 45March 4, 2022 1:35 AM

Dolly in the country music hall of fame NOT rock n roll hall of fame. Get over it.

by Anonymousreply 46March 4, 2022 1:37 AM

thanks R46. Love Dolly, she does not belong to rock. Someday, when all her movies croak, Gaga will turn to country, and her monsters will insist she belongs in the Country Music HOF.

by Anonymousreply 47March 4, 2022 2:01 AM

Connie should have been among the first to be inducted.

by Anonymousreply 48March 4, 2022 3:02 AM

Beck????

by Anonymousreply 49March 4, 2022 3:06 AM

R48 YES!!! Connie was the first big female singing star of the pop/rock era!!!

by Anonymousreply 50March 4, 2022 3:16 AM

R46 R47 There are dozens of rappers, soul musicians, funk musicians in Rock n Roll HoF but Dolly somehow doesn't fit in?

by Anonymousreply 51March 4, 2022 3:25 AM

Connie? Connie Stevens? I remember her on a lot of talk shows, but she wasn't rock either. Sort of Vegas schmaltzy, but cute.

Paywall r53.

by Anonymousreply 55March 31, 2022 11:40 AM

Absurd that Connie Francis is still not on the list. Part of it is her fault, in that she shifted towards lounge singer music in the mid 60's, and that's what etched her status in many people's minds. But she was definitely a rock and roll pioneer in the late 50's/early 60's. One of the very few women who cranked out top ten hits in a field dominated by men.

by Anonymousreply 56March 31, 2022 11:56 AM

R56 Totally true! INSIST that Connie Francis be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame! NOW!!

[quote] [R53] articles under a paywall.

In:

Eminem

Duran Duran

Dolly

Pat Benetar

Rage Against the Machine

Lionel Richie

Out:

Beck

Dionne Warwick

Kate Bush

Devo

Judas Priest

by Anonymousreply 58March 31, 2022 6:06 PM

Dionne, Devo and Kate should have gotten in over Eminem and Rage

by Anonymousreply 59March 31, 2022 6:08 PM

Judas Priest is still too leathery and threatening? Nice.

by Anonymousreply 60March 31, 2022 6:11 PM

Eminem, Duran Duran and Rage Against the Machine over Devo? What a joke.

by Anonymousreply 61March 31, 2022 6:17 PM

Dolly is the new Betty White.

Young people are just now noticing what a talent she is, and they want to shower her with kudos before she croaks.

by Anonymousreply 62March 31, 2022 6:18 PM

Rage Against the Machine WOULDN'T be in the game if it wasn't for Priest. FACT!

by Anonymousreply 63March 31, 2022 6:19 PM

R63 Their music has zero to do with Priest. Sabbath, punk and hard core, trash metal, funk and early hip hop. But long solos and screeching vocals of bluesy heavy metal of Judas Priest?

by Anonymousreply 64March 31, 2022 8:01 PM

Of course Beck should be inducted. He *was* the 1990s! More recently, he won the Album of the Year Grammy.

by Anonymousreply 65March 31, 2022 8:05 PM

I would have put in Judas Priest over Lionel Richie but otherwise it’s expected.

by Anonymousreply 66March 31, 2022 8:10 PM

Also Beck over Dolly if only because she doesn’t want to be there.

by Anonymousreply 67March 31, 2022 8:11 PM

Bullshit r64. Everything after early metal if you're a hard rock band has been influenced in some way by British metal including RATM.

by Anonymousreply 68March 31, 2022 8:11 PM

These were just predictions, not a list of who has gotten in.

by Anonymousreply 69March 31, 2022 8:37 PM

Priest is NOT bluesy

by Anonymousreply 70March 31, 2022 8:38 PM

Never said they were, r70.

by Anonymousreply 71March 31, 2022 9:14 PM

Judas Priest sucks. The best Priest is Maxi Priest.

by Anonymousreply 72March 31, 2022 9:19 PM

The Monkees.

by Anonymousreply 73March 31, 2022 9:40 PM

Woohoo, Duran Duran is about a hundred thousand votes ahead of everybody else.

Yeah, that vote doesn’t really matter but it shows they still have obsessive fans who go once a day and vote. 😛

Their music instantly takes you back to happier times for some people. They are still making music today. Their new album is great.

Their tour later this year is already sold out everywhere.

They were part of the the “second British Invasion” which revitalized radio and record sales back in the 80’s.

by Anonymousreply 74March 31, 2022 10:12 PM

R57 True...She should have been among the first. Even though she turned to standards and ethnic music, she was the first female churning out those hits and controlling her own career. Perhaps this latter factor keeps her out more than anything else.

by Anonymousreply 75April 1, 2022 3:08 AM

R75, see R56.

by Anonymousreply 76April 1, 2022 1:38 PM

R75 True, but there are many reasons why Connie Francis should have made it into the Hall at the very beginning. Many reasons.

by Anonymousreply 77April 2, 2022 2:51 AM

Here is a list of everyone who has been eligible for nominations and the number of nominations they've had over the years.

Carpenters, one of my personal favorites on this list, has been eligible for nomination for 28 years and has received 0 nominations.
