Novak did a double fuck-up r26. Not only did he miss out on the chance to get to 21, the fact that Rafa won and has now secured the 21 means that Novak has to win two more grand slams now to be the GOAT. Next up is the French Open - Nadal's best grand slam. The irony also being that the Australian Open is Djokovic's best grand slam and this was the perfect opportunity for him to get to 21.

Nadal has only won the Australian Open once - and the last time was in 2009. Djokovic probably never thought in a million years that Nadal was going to win this one.

As much as I can't stand Novax I do think he will eventually be the GOAT. He isn't as injury prone as Rafa. He is also more talented. His game is a lot more effortless than Rafa's, who has to work hard for every point. And this is coming from a Rafa fan. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled he won. I didn't expect it at all. But this doesn't change much in the long run. Djokovic will be back winning in no time. Only a matter of time before he will be the official GOAT. In the mean time I will enjoy Rafa making history.

Time will tell. NoVax Dopervic could suffer a career-ending injury. He could lose to younger players. He's banned from Australia for the next few years so he only has three chances a year, that's if he's even allowed to play at those Slams. No telling what could happen with covid and vaccine mandates.

For sure Djokovic has another couple of grand slams in him, r34 but, unless he gets vaccinated, he is banned from entering Australia and hence competing in his favourite grand slam for the next two Australian Opens. He's also banned from the French Open and very possibly also Wimbledon and the US Open this year unless he gets vaccinated, probably also some other tournaments too. And Medvedev is proving a great rival to Djokovic. And Nadal winning means that he now has 21 grand slams, so Djokovic now has to win another two grand slams to claim the GOAT title (if we're measuring it in terms of number of grand slams). For Nadal to win the Australian Open, which he had only won once before, and that 13 years ago, is pretty amazing and shows that all sorts of unforeseen hurdles could pop up for Djokovic. So he needs to stop creating them for himself.

Nadal wins the French and retires happy with 22. Medvedev and the young guns finally close the door on the old guard, as Djokovic can only play in Covid rogue states.

I'd rather watch paint dry than tennis.

Did anyone else notice that while the woman was introducing everyone after Nadal's win, Medvedev at least twice mouthed "BORING" during her speech? I thought his speech was fine but I was ticked off that he was that rude to say BORING twice before he spoke.
