Germany Boycott

Which German products will you be boycotting considering they have abandoned the west, and are kowtowing to the fascists.

Germany has betrayed America and we should not spend another penny on German products until they change course.

I think Mercedes quality is in the toilet anyway so this one should be easy.

Germans have always gone weak before the strong man.

I canceled my VW purchase and a spring trip to Berlin.

“The plan is obviously for 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers to run across the border and head-butt the Russian troops deployed there,” Marina Weisband, an author and former politician who was born in Ukraine, wrote on Twitter.

“Could you get any more embarrassing?” tweeted Ruprecht Polenz, a prominent member of Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Party. “Will 5,000 helmets make a Russian invasion less likely?”

by Anonymousreply 5January 28, 2022 8:58 PM

The German word for helmets — Helme — trended on Twitter after the announcement, a sign of the derision with which many viewed the donation. Critics saw it as another sign of the reticence the German government has shown regarding the growing crisis around Ukraine, where its reluctance to lead on security matters in Europe has led to a more accommodating stance toward Russia than the United States and other European powers.

Germany, like Europe at large, is dependent on Russia for natural gas. And some political leaders have warned against excluding Russian banks from the Swift payment transactions network, which handles global financial transfers, because it would harm Germany’s economic interests.

by Anonymousreply 6January 28, 2022 8:59 PM

“Germany, like Europe at large, is dependent on Russia for natural gas”

This is a ruse. The Germans just want to be able to say “sorry, our hands are tied”.

by Anonymousreply 7January 28, 2022 8:59 PM

Every major decision Germany has made in the last few years has been beneficial to the fascists. What is their real stance? Germany has been saying one thing yet doing another.

Germany could end the war tomorrow if they weren’t such……

Fill in the blank.

by Anonymousreply 12January 28, 2022 9:04 PM

I wouldn’t go to Germany any time soon anyway because they could go full out fascists in a moment’s notice.

by Anonymousreply 13January 28, 2022 9:05 PM

“Perhaps the clearest rebuke came from Vitali Klitschko, a former boxing champion who is now mayor of Kyiv, the capital. Speaking to the German tabloid Bild, Mr. Klitschko said: “5,000 helmets is an absolute joke. What support are they going to send next? Pillows?”

by Anonymousreply 14January 28, 2022 9:15 PM

Let’s end this thread, Muriel. Please!

by Anonymousreply 15January 28, 2022 9:16 PM

Piss weak Germany. 5,000 helmets?? Come the fuck on. So disappointing. Is this what you are now? Shame on you.

by Anonymousreply 16January 28, 2022 9:16 PM

I don’t think this war is going the way the fascists want it to. I think they bit off way more than they can chew and now is the chance to bury them once and for all.

So we can have some peace and quiet. I’m looking for the day that all the foreign fascist trolls are purged from the web. To the day we’re we can have our senses back and our distant families released from their cyber trances. All at once.

5,000 helmets? That is a joke.

by Anonymousreply 21January 28, 2022 9:22 PM

R20 don’t try that crap here. This is a propaganda free zone and stupid distractions are not going to cut it.

“Germany has insisted that it will not deliver arms to Ukraine, in keeping with a longstanding policy of not supplying lethal weapons to potential conflict zones.”

But where is this in their “policy”:

“It is also holding up a shipment of nine Communist-era howitzers from Estonia to Ukraine. The German government recently promised to send a field hospital to Ukraine.”

Germany’s actions and non-actions speak for themselves.

by Anonymousreply 22January 28, 2022 9:26 PM

Remember the emissions scandal from VW? So blatant.

It’s sad to see Germany being so spineless and mealy-mouthed.

It reminds me of the UK’s rapid fall from grace.

It’s like all of Europe is under some spell.

They need to **snap** out of it.

by Anonymousreply 39January 28, 2022 9:56 PM

The Nordic countries are freaking out. They should put pressure on their German cousins to nip this in the bud.

A lot of people are counting on Germany to make the right moves.

by Anonymousreply 40January 28, 2022 9:58 PM

Everyone is worked up because people EVERYWHERE - including Europe - freaked that Russia helped Donald win.

Now, with Russia doing something violent, Europe is like "we still get oil for heating, right, Vlad?"

Fucking dirty hypocrites, and it starts in Berlin.

by Anonymousreply 41January 28, 2022 10:00 PM

Plenty of trees in Germany have grown back in the last 77 years. They cut them down for heat when they were freezing in 1944, they can do it again.

This whole gas thing is an excuse.

They willfully put themselves in this situation and could willfully get out of it.

by Anonymousreply 43January 28, 2022 10:09 PM

The US should be careful when throwing around terms like 'hypocrites' or 'fascist'... it is safe to assume that whatever insults they throw at other countries, are even more true with regard to the US.

Some Americans really cannot deal with not getting their way, can they?

by Anonymousreply 44January 28, 2022 10:12 PM

America has bailed out the world time and time again and now they need the help in return.

Democracies are under siege all over the world by their fascist neighbors. And in some cases from within with the fascist support.

Now is not the time for Germany to stall and buy time.

by Anonymousreply 45January 28, 2022 10:12 PM

Enough of this Anti-America pile on. We are just asking for help to secure the world’s democracies.

You don’t want the fascists to get total control with today’s technology. You don’t even want to get close to that.

by Anonymousreply 46January 28, 2022 10:14 PM

Germany cares about 2 things: (1) exports and (2) hobbling Europe.

Russia attacking Ukraine will harm Europe to the east of Germany, and that's good for the 2d thing.

Deutschland über alles, indeed.

by Anonymousreply 53January 28, 2022 10:31 PM

Merkel peronally saw to it that Navalny was teared in a Berlin hospital. We kicked Russian diplomats out for the farce of the murder in Tiergarten. We're surely not bowing to Russia. Americans seem to be misinformed though concerning the size or capability of our army. There has been a scandal some years ago when an elected official misspoke and practically gave away that we don't even have a submarine that actually swims or enough qualified staff for maintaining or manning it. For decades, this was in line with what the US wanted for Germany. We basically don't have a functioning army right now. We can, in a pinch, help if there is an earthquake somewhere but that's it. Our new government is half SPD half Grüne. (The FDP doesn't matter.) They both have a tradition in anti-imperialism which is of course anti American. Thus doesn't mean though that Putin's Russia doesn't scare the shit out of any remotely sane person. You really don't want to mess with Russia. Interfering in any way in the Ukraine seems about as sensible as reaching into a lawnmower. Personally, i think it's a shame nevertheless. We should stand united with Ukraine, France, any decent country and do what we can, even if it's embarrassingly little.

by Anonymousreply 54January 28, 2022 10:59 PM

I'll be boycotting The Final Solution, OP.

by Anonymousreply 55January 28, 2022 11:01 PM

I don’t think anyone is asking too much of Germany. Nobody is asking them to mount their army and take up arms.

But Germany is supplying equipment to the fascists while denying it to the Estonians and presumably the UK. It’s not like it’s sitting innocently on the fence.

by Anonymousreply 56January 28, 2022 11:06 PM

Russia is not going to invade Ukraine. They been calling it an exercise to save face with the Russia people. Once they've seen the writing on the wall that Biden and the rest of Europe has thrown at them, they will back away. Finland and Sweden threatening to join Nato is enough to get Boris to run to the hills. Now if Trump were president , he would have supplied weapons to the Russians to help them overthrow Ukraine.

by Anonymousreply 69January 29, 2022 4:45 PM

I said this in another thread about Germany- They don' want to anger Russia because Russia supplies a lot of Germany's natural gas and oil. If Germany encourages a boycott of Russia then Russian may cut off fossil fuels supplies to Germany and then Germany would be FUCKED.

Shit, I just remembered that despite Sprint being my mobile carrier they were bought out by T-Mobile.

How would you go about boycotting DHL, R29? Most of my preferred online retailers use FedEx or UPS but every now and then the only available option will be DHL. I am expecting a DHL package on Monday but this doesn’t happen often enough to be a problem for me - how would a DHL boycott work? Would you boycott the retailer who uses DHL for delivery?

The only corporations I have ever boycotted are Nestle, Coca Cola and Koch Industries. Nestle and Coke have have been surprisingly easy to avoid but I still don’t know everything the Kochs own.

by Anonymousreply 75January 29, 2022 5:57 PM
