Outrage? I work in advertising. I've worked in advertising in the fashion field as well as worked directly for a clothing manufacturer. I know about sizing and sewing.

I've never heard the term "straight size". I've heard the terms Womens, Misses, Juniors, Petite, Half Size and Plus Size.

For example, a size 7 in Misses is equal to a 6 in Womens. Womens sizing is technically cut larger. The difference is that Misses sizes are usually for the shorter and slimmer woman. In more expensive clothing Junior sizing is still available.

Also as person who has dealt with vintage designer clothing (40s through 70s) older sizing is inconsistent with today's sizes, especially today's 'vanity sizing', where a size 4 in an expensive designer womens blazer is more like a true size 12!

'Straight size' is basically a euphemism for 'not fat', i.e. clothes sized for a non-plus size.

I can't speak to the Bridget Fonda situation. However, I've known a few battered women in my life, and none of them fit the stereotypical "abused woman" trope we see in TV and movies. On the surface, they seemed assertive and unwilling to put up with shit. They would stand up to their husbands (in public at least). They weren't overly passive or fearful in their demeanor and you probably wouldn't have guessed they were being abused (in one case, rather severely).

The point is, appearances in these situations can be deceiving: not just the stereotypes of the working-class, Stanley Kowalski-type abusers, but also of the battered woman, always deferring and never fighting back, always cowering in a corner.

In fact, I'd severely lost weight due to the severity of my one auto immune disease (Crohns disease), but am recovering from that horrible flare up. Don't always judge a book by its cover.

Also, its not uncommon for people to lose or gain a huge amount of weight in....12 years. That's a VERY LONG TIME. People claiming that's TOO SOM TO GAIN WEIGHT must be living in a hole or are trolls. One can easily lose or gain half your own body weight in under a year for most people. If dealing with illness or medication. Hell, went from 140 lbs to 68 lbs last year within 6 months due to a severe crohns flare up and was in the hospital. Then i rapidly gained all that back in less than 4 months after I got into remission and on a liquid supplement ...the body will grab onto ANY calorie it can. There are SO many things possible and ignorant and idiotic to jump to the conclusion that its abuse or shes mentally ill. This....is probably why she left the spotlight.

I live on the East Coast, I don't have one female friend, or relative, who has blown up to this extent due to menopause, low thyroid, a hysterectomy or any other medical problem. I see people in East Coast malls and in places like Costco, very few are obese.

If a woman suffers from PCOS, can the ovaries be removed? Will that help? Especially if a woman doesn't want children or if they are already in menopause. If removing the ovaries can alleviate all those horrible symptoms, why not?

Many years ago, a close female friend had a hysterectomy at only 36, she suffered from very painful endometriosis, at the time, surgery was the only way to alleviate her symptoms. Think their are drugs for endometriosis now, not sure.

HRT meds can also cause cancer, so that's a Catch-22 situation.

The kind she has can get worse later in age and usually ends up requiring surgery. Those medications for it can cause weight gain and also the meds used to balance those. Especially if shes on other medications for say, her chronic back problems or thyroid or whichever. Drop it now!!!!
