I had no idea this was going on. Poor Nichelle. We have to end conservatorship abuse and elder abuse.

From what I understand, she has dementia. I’m so glad I saw her at a very crowded public appearance while she was still in full command of her faculties, singing, dancing, laughing.

The son says she has dementia. A director she worked with last who became friends with her says that she's just fine and he's trying to take advantage of her.
The suspicious part is: this would all be resolved if someone could actually talk to Nichelle Nichols but the son won't allow it. He sold her home and moved her to New Mexico.
None of her friends have been able to talk to her.
That is why there's controversy.
Since he won't allow anyone near her.

Conservatorships exists for a reason. But it sucks when people use it to abuse the people they have power over. I understand why people are suspicious, but a doctor must have diagnosed her with dementia for the judge to place the conservatorship. Maybe before Nichelle became sick, she expressed to her son that she didn't want people to see her in a deteriorated state, and he is fulfilling her previous wishes. I'm curious why her director friend would publicly say that though. It's would make me sick to hear a son is doing such a thing to his mother.

It might be because Nichelle was recorded angry that her son filed for the conservatorship on camera by Nichelle's former manager when he handed her, her son's petition.
The former manager was leasing property from Michelle as he is along in years as well.
The son apparently saw Nichelle going to the former manager's home on the property and tried to get Nichelle away from him.
Beware, this is actually kinda scary and chilling.
Listen to how scared she is and how her son is talking to her on video.

I'm more surprised they know who Nichelle even is.

Was the son trying to get his paws on her vast Psychic Encounters fortune?

To anyone who immediately buys the idea that the son is abusive and taking advantage of his mother, I would say get back to me after you've had to take care of a parent with dementia. If you HAVE done it, I'd love to hear your story.
It's not that easy to get a conservatorship. My family and I are working on it for the sake of my father, who has Alzheimers. He doesn't understand that he's incapacitated and can't be living alone any longer. Of course he wants to stay in his home, continue to drive, etc. Who wouldn't? But it's not safe anymore. He may hate us for the rest of his life for what we're doing, and we'll have to live with that knowing we are truly doing what's right. And his younger self would agree.
Regarding her friends who say she's lucid, people with serious dementia can get it together and look and act perfectly lucid for short periods of time. Then, when company has left, they fall apart. And then there's sundowning.
If the son was taking advantage, then he's a piece of shit. But the fact he was able to get a conservatorship in the first place leads me to believe he was actually just doing the thankless but necessary task of taking over the affairs of his mother who was losing her marbles.
Anyway, she has died now, so the protesters will have to take aim at someone else. R.I.P. Nichelle.

The manager sounds like a leech. He helped her get back on her feet after she went broke, but he also got power of attorney and lived in her guesthouse rent-free for several years.

She was very pretty. I hate to see her in this condition but it's probably necessary.

Is there anyone lower than a child who takes advantage of a parent who is both ill and financially strapped?
