Uh, pass. Would have made a great clubhouse for me and my friends when we went through our goth phase though.

Honestly, it is much nicer than I expected. Except for the blood red lighted pool.

That is the perfect exemplar of “A Pile of Bricks”.

I love this from the article...
" It was moved to its current location in 1915 by Van Nuys' son, J. Benton."
How the hell do you move a 13000 sq. ft. brick mansion?

The blood red swimming pool is a nice touch

So dark for LA. Some of that carved dark wood looked really well-done and expensive, like the inside of a church. The dining room was probably my favorite room. She actually probably spent a ton of money doing that to the house.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 27, 2022 4:58 AM

Not sure how she made all that money, either. She did have a successful makeup line (Sephora).

Love the external views of the Victorian house in Minneapolis that Mary Richards "lived" in. This house has zero charm and leaves me cold.
I remember reading a few Hancock Park neighbors' posts on Kat's Instagram (a couple years ago) complaining about the non-stop sound of construction from the never-ending renovations going on for years ever since Kat bought the place.

Kat is a white Hispanic and part of that white is German. White Hispanics have bad taste and Germans had much better taste before they were invading and mass murdering people.

Ugly house. Aside from seeing her makeup at Sephora, all I remember her from is feuding with Jeffree Star and some terrible reality show I didn't watch.

She had some horrible star tattoos on her face and was in a relationship with Nazi regalia collector Jesse James.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 27, 2022 6:13 AM

Didn't Sandra Bullock date and/or was married to Nazi memorabilia collector Jesse James as well. I heard Kat is into the whole Nazi adj. scene. I actually like the house. I saw it on the DM. I too wondered how she could afford this. She has the makeup lines, lingerie lines, the tattoo shops, etc. The red pool is cool for one night, but too much.

She obviously makes her real money on the underground Nazi memorabilia circuit.

I like the master bath in the latest listing. And that's it.

I love the house in all its goth/French Court glory, but I'm an outlier. I suspect she'll be waiting awhile to find a buyer who's both odd enough to like it and wealthy enough to own it.
Didn't she already move to a tiny town in Indiana? What's that about?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 27, 2022 6:50 AM

I love the mural wallpaper depicting a crepuscular landscape with bats in flight. Overall though the house is too much for me.

She bought a big, possibly haunted, mansion in Indiana, so she can live around mouth breathing fuckwits like herself.

This period of architecture reminds me of so many houses in my hometown. I was going to compliment them on staying true to the period but then saw their reason for leaving is California having "terrible policies, tyrannical government overreach, ridiculous taxing, amongst so many (much) more corruption." Their neighbors will be glad to throw a going away party in their honor!

I really knew nothing about her personality until the article posted here about moving to Indiana
didn't know she was right wing trash
I'm sure California is happy she's gone

It looks like the Goth house from Sims 3.

I never liked her energy and there was always something about her I never liked. So when I found out she was a deplorable I wasn’t surprised. And I can’t stand that ugly smile of hers.

It amazed me when she blew up because she did come across as having a negative personality. I never watched her show so maybe the editing was very flattering to her.

Wow, what a stunning house, I love it, although I have to concur with R10 that it is just a bit too dark inside in some of the rooms that have been recently altered.
It is also really a bit big to be practical, but I just love the style.
I prefer the 2016 version as posted by R8, both the old kitchen and pool are better.
The current garden is better than the 2016 version though I have to say, and some of the rooms have been refreshed really well, others like the kitchen not so much
But I'd happily take it as is either then or now, overall its nearly perfect, especially a couple of the bedrooms and the amazing lounge/ drawing room in green and gold that I've linked (I hope its worked)
This can go into my Dream Home bookmarks folder for sure

I think she did a good job with the restoration work, she’s very detail type A personality. I don’t know who in the 21st century would use a ballroom or sit in a formal dining room or hire all the specialized staff it would take to keep this place in shape, though. Wouldn’t you end up just hanging out in your bedroom and the kitchen? All her friends are probably covered in tattoos and wouldn’t know how to waltz or hold forks.

That’s the problem with these old houses. They are often aesthetically appealing and the craftsmanship is not like anything available now, but the world in which they functioned as livable spaces no longer exists. Does Kat have a small army of domestic servants at her disposal? Would she even know how to manage such a household if she could find people willing to work those jobs?

I'm sure Kat will just love life in small town Indiana. The locals really "cotton to" goth chick tattoo artists.
PS Kat: low taxes = non-existent services. Have fun keeping your driveway and access road clear of snow every winter!

R16 You got the post. R15 is a complete fucking dolt. Kat is a White Hispanic deplorable..........those are the worst types. Let her live in Flyoverlandia with all those Trumpers and Gun Nuts.

I get the shivers just thinking about the punitive amount of maintenance these big old houses require. The dusting alone is a full-time job.

Why spend all that money for expensive custom jobs then move relatively soon thereafter? I'm 100% sure she is regretting spending all that money.
I actually like some of that carved wood and you can hate me, but I'd paint some of it white.

Erin Moran from Happy Days also fled LA for Southern Indiana. Poor Erin didn’t have a 35 room mansion though, and she came to a sad end.

R45 I'm with you on painting some of the carved wood white, or at least making it a lighter colour, especially in the kitchen.
I think I'd also return the exterior to the cream colour it was in 2016. That red is dramatic but doesnt really work on the house
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 27, 2022 5:28 PM

Yup, I'd change the exterior color back to cream or butter. Obviously the pool lights can be changed from red as well.

You guys, I don't think Kat Von D is a Trumper.
[quote] According to the photos, Von D wrote that, "My launch party [and my brand] celebrates many things that Trump is against. And I just need you to know that I personally have a hard time with inviting anyone who would support such an anti-feminist, anti-homosexual/LGBT, anti-immigrant, and anti-climate change fascist such as Trump."
This is from a few years ago, but if you search Kat Von D and Trump it's all that comes up.
