Singer and Actor Meat Loaf dies at 74

Meat Loaf, the hardworking singer and actor whose Bat Out of Hell is one of the best-selling albums ever and who played Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died. He was 74.

The Grammy winner born Marvin Lee Aday died Thursday night with his wife Deborah by his side, Meat Loaf’s longtime agent Michael Greene told Deadline on behalf of the family. He added that the singer’s daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends also had a chance to spend time with him and say their goodbyes during the last 24 hours. A cause of death is not being released.

“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man,” Meat Loaf’s family said in a statement. “From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!”

Written and produced by Jim Steinman, Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell is among the best-selling albums in U.S. history, racking up 14 million units sold, per the RIAA. Its singles “Two of Three Ain’t Bad” and “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” — which peaked at No. 11 and No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively — both were certified platinum in 2018.

“Paradise by the Dashboard Light” — a duet with Ellen Foley, who went on to star in Season 1 of Night Court — famously features longtime New York Yankees announcer “calling the action” as the teenage narrator makes a move on his girlfriend. Watch the video for the song below, with Karla DeVito lip-synching the “Stop right there!” role. She then went on tour with Meat Loaf to support the album.

The disc spent 522 weeks — 10 years — on the UK album chart.

Meat Loaf and Steinman also collaborated on the 1993 album Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, which has sold more than 5 million units in the U.S. alone. Its platinum lead single “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” spent five weeks at No. 1 in late 1993, by far Meat Loaf’s biggest hit. It also topped the UK chart and won Meat Loaf the Grammy for Best Rock Performance, Solo. Steinman died last year.

Meat Loaf has sold more 100 million albums worldwide. His 1980s LPs Dead Ringer and Bad Attitude sold moderately stateside, but 1995’s Welcome to the Neighborhood made the Top 20 and went platinum. He taped an episode of VH1’s Storytellers that was released as an album in 1999.

Meat Loaf also sang lead on several tracks for Ted Nugent’s million-selling 1976 album Free-for-All.

But before Bat Out of Hell and the rest, there was The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Meat Loaf all but stole the 1975 film version of the stage musical as Eddie, a wild and wildly unlucky ex-delivery boy who belts out the hard-rocking “Hot Patootie” before meeting a difficult end. The movie, which also starred Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry, has become an all-time cult classic. Its soundtrack also hit the Top 50 and is certified gold. Meat Loaf also played the Eddie role onstage.

Meat Loaf was the musical guest on a 1978 episode of Saturday Night Live, on which he played Bat Out of Hell’s “All Revved Up and Nowhere to Go” and “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.” He often host the turn-of-the-century music series The List on VH1. His many other screen credits include the features Roadie, Motorama, Crazy in Alabama, Stage Fright, Spice World, Leap of Faith and Americathon. He also appeared in several episodes of the 2017-18 series Ghost Wars.

Last year, Meat Loaf sealed a deal to develop a relationship competition series based on “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).” He was executive producer on the project and was set to appear as, per the logline, the ethereal figure behind the madness who would pull the strings in the show. Couples were to compete in a variety of comedic physical games designed to reveal how well they can work together and how much they really trust and believe in each other – all to a soundtrack of classic hits, performed live in studio by the original artists as well as new stars.

I really love that rock-n-roll.

What a bummer.

He seemed like a cool guy.

by Anonymousreply 2January 21, 2022 8:09 AM

BOVID, right?

by Anonymousreply 3January 21, 2022 8:25 AM

Didn't he become a hardcore ReThug?

by Anonymousreply 4January 21, 2022 8:26 AM

He was a MAGAt.

by Anonymousreply 7January 21, 2022 8:33 AM

[quote] He was a MAGAt.

And now he's full of them!

by Anonymousreply 8January 21, 2022 8:34 AM

RIP

His label’s marketing department and heiress don’t want his vaccination status (either way) to effect the after-death sales. Lately they sell more than they ever did alive.

Ok, I’ll stop now.

by Anonymousreply 9January 21, 2022 8:42 AM

Was it death by chainsaw?

by Anonymousreply 10January 21, 2022 8:46 AM

[quote]He was a MAGAt.

Be that as it may, he made two spectacular albums.

by Anonymousreply 11January 21, 2022 8:50 AM

He was good in Fight Club.

by Anonymousreply 12January 21, 2022 8:52 AM

Loved him in Rocky Horror.

He had a great voice.

by Anonymousreply 13January 21, 2022 8:53 AM

It's the curse of Cher - Sonny Bono, Bowie and now Meat - all dead.

by Anonymousreply 14January 21, 2022 9:00 AM

Cher dated Meat Loaf, R14?

Damn, I had no idea.

by Anonymousreply 15January 21, 2022 9:05 AM

“Inspiring and beautiful man” is not a phrase that comes to mind when thinking of the unwashed Meatloaf.

by Anonymousreply 16January 21, 2022 9:09 AM

Will Donald Trump be delivery the eulogy for this Celebrity Apprentice alum?

by Anonymousreply 17January 21, 2022 9:15 AM

R15 - no she duetted with them all.

by Anonymousreply 18January 21, 2022 9:18 AM

Didn't follow his career closely. He was a MAGAT and a vaxx denier? Pity.

by Anonymousreply 19January 21, 2022 9:21 AM

R17, has Trump ever eulogized anyone?! The line about TR - having to be the corpse at every funeral - seems so apt about him.

by Anonymousreply 20January 21, 2022 9:27 AM

In interviews, Meatloaf always came across as a decent personable guy, hard to believe he was a ReThug.

Was he also a homophobe? He did work with Tim Curry and there are many gay people in the music biz. Not to mention, he was a theater nerd in school.

Was he a racist? He was originally signed to Motown Records.

Meatloaf also worked on Broadway, where everyone knows there is strong gay presence. Before his rock music fame, he was in a Los Angeles stage production of Hair, as well as working Off-Broadway. He appeared in a Shakespeare in the Park production of As You Like It with Raul Julia and Mary Beth Hurt.

When I first heard he was a ReThug, I was actually shocked.

by Anonymousreply 21January 21, 2022 9:43 AM

It’s 5:46 AM here, my mother called me DEVESTATED over this!

by Anonymousreply 22January 21, 2022 9:48 AM

Related note - People who put carrots in meat loaf deserve to die.

by Anonymousreply 23January 21, 2022 9:50 AM

Yay! Another dead Trumpie.

by Anonymousreply 24January 21, 2022 10:04 AM

R22: I am with your mother. I am devastated. He was my first ever concert when I was 10 or 11. He was my all-time favorite singer of all time. I think I need to call off work and take to my bed for the remainder for the day, if not longer.

by Anonymousreply 25January 21, 2022 10:04 AM

I mean...2022 is NOT playing, kids.

by Anonymousreply 26January 21, 2022 10:17 AM

The "In Memorium" is gonna have to be an hour special preceding the actual ceremony. Shit, It's only January!

by Anonymousreply 27January 21, 2022 10:20 AM

Is he the biggest death of 2022 so far? Was he on anyone’s list of expected celebrity deaths? His songs are pretty iconic plus the “personality” and movie roles, so it seems he will be remembered fondly.

by Anonymousreply 28January 21, 2022 10:21 AM

He may have been on dead pool lists because of his obvious (but unspecified) health problems. Every few years there was an article about him collapsing on stage, it seemed. His last appearance was nearly a year ago. This was shocking news, but not exactly surprising.

by Anonymousreply 29January 21, 2022 10:24 AM

Trumpster.

by Anonymousreply 30January 21, 2022 10:26 AM

His meat is loafing now for eternity. 😢

by Anonymousreply 31January 21, 2022 10:29 AM

R30, this isn't twitter. We can disagree with a person's politics/actions vehemently, but still enjoy their art. People change, and art/artist is more nuanced than "he said something offensive on Conan Obrien in 1997, GET HIM!"

by Anonymousreply 32January 21, 2022 10:38 AM

(that was an example, not from the life of Meatloaf).

by Anonymousreply 33January 21, 2022 10:38 AM

BECAUSE this is not Twitter, we can say whatever the fuck we want to say without being policed by cunts like you.

by Anonymousreply 37January 21, 2022 10:53 AM

Meatloaf’s season of Celebrity Apprentice was the one that got President Obama to joke about it in front of Donald Trump at the Correspondents’ Dinner, which supposedly made Trump so angry that he made up his mind to run for President.

[quote] For example … no seriously, just recently, in an episode of Celebrity Apprentice, at the steakhouse, the men’s cooking team did not impress the judges from Omaha Steaks. And there was a lot of blame to go around, but you, Mr. Trump, recognized that the real problem was a lack of leadership, and so ultimately you didn’t blame Lil Jon or Meat Loaf, you fired Gary Busey. And these are the kinds of decisions that would keep me up at night. Well handled, sir. Well handled.

The night after that happened, I was watching Celebrity Apprentice when the breaking news bulletin cut in that Osama bin Laden was dead.

Strange times.

by Anonymousreply 38January 21, 2022 10:57 AM

2022 seems to be the year of the celebrity....and not in a good way. RIP..

by Anonymousreply 39January 21, 2022 11:18 AM

R38 tf are we seriously blaming the DT presidency on Meat?

by Anonymousreply 40January 21, 2022 11:19 AM

R36...Someone took his crayons in kindergarten..

by Anonymousreply 41January 21, 2022 11:57 AM

R38. Do you remember the boardroom when Trump said he might run for President? It may have been the same episode President Obama was talking about. When he said it Meat Loaf immediately said "I'd vote for you Mr. Trump."

by Anonymousreply 42January 21, 2022 12:13 PM

Did he die… by the dashboard lights?

by Anonymousreply 43January 21, 2022 12:17 PM

He would do anything for love but not dying of covid.

by Anonymousreply 44January 21, 2022 12:22 PM

R40 I don’t blame The Meat, it’s just such a weird convergence of significant and frivolous news and celebrity issues to me. The people of the future won’t understand…

by Anonymousreply 45January 21, 2022 12:25 PM

He seemed overrrated/overhyped in his heyday----there was a a lot of that in the 70s. Popular music had gotten horrible and more corporatized. And the suits were looking for the next big thing that wasn't disco or some alternative like punk.

by Anonymousreply 46January 21, 2022 12:26 PM

R45: It's reality tv meets CEO culture. Both vapid and ignorant. Both popular despite being obviously hollow and phony.

by Anonymousreply 47January 21, 2022 12:27 PM

vaxxed??

by Anonymousreply 48January 21, 2022 12:29 PM

R29, how is something shocking but not surprising?

by Anonymousreply 49January 21, 2022 12:30 PM

Will an autopsy reveal hard-boiled eggs in his system?

by Anonymousreply 50January 21, 2022 12:34 PM

Has anyone tried Joan Crawford's meatloaf recipe? A friend of mine followed the recipe to a "t" and said it was pretty awful.

by Anonymousreply 51January 21, 2022 12:39 PM

I bet he had Covid. He was a Trumptard.

by Anonymousreply 52January 21, 2022 12:43 PM

If TMZ says it was Covid, it was.

R51 That recipe looks absolutely vile, so no, I've never made it. My condolences to your friend, but really. Hard-boiled eggs??

by Anonymousreply 56January 21, 2022 1:04 PM

I’ve never tried Joan Crawford’s recipe, but I can vouch for the Cook’s Illustrated meatloaf recipe. My mom was not a meatloaf-cooking type, so I didn’t eat it until I was an adult, but I think it’s great.

by Anonymousreply 57January 21, 2022 1:09 PM

I loved it when he stood up to Star Jones.

by Anonymousreply 58January 21, 2022 1:09 PM

R54 I mean, that was pretty cool of him.

by Anonymousreply 59January 21, 2022 1:10 PM

I never got the appeal of Meatloaf. I was a teen when Bat Out of Hell II came out and even as a teen thought it was schlocky and terribly overwrought. I was then exposed to his earlier work and found it the same. Maybe my quarrel was with the writer/producer since it seemed Meatloaf was only a voice but all of it is terribly overplayed and oversung by quite possibly one of the ugliest men to ever achieve fame in show business.

by Anonymousreply 60January 21, 2022 1:19 PM

He was obnoxious and extremely insufferable in person

by Anonymousreply 61January 21, 2022 1:23 PM

I loved his song I will do anything for love because it was campy over dramatic and spectacular. He had a great voice but it looks like his choice in politics was shit.

by Anonymousreply 62January 21, 2022 1:24 PM

He was a great performer and a humble, down-to-earth person.

Fuck you cancel-culture haters who think his political or covid views mattered.

by Anonymousreply 63January 21, 2022 1:25 PM

WHAT?! Say it isn't so.

by Anonymousreply 64January 21, 2022 1:38 PM

“I’ll do anything for love,

But I won’t get vaxxed.”

Came here for this... Leaving satisfied

by Anonymousreply 65January 21, 2022 1:39 PM

They've got to put him in the In Memoriam section of The Oscars right, his role in RHPS is iconic.

by Anonymousreply 66January 21, 2022 1:49 PM

His anti-vax views mattered because they killed him, R63.

And I'll always love him in RHPS and Bat Out of Hell. That doesn't change the fact that his ideology is largely responsible for his death. Obese 74-year-olds are exactly the people who most need to be vaxxed. Some of us are angry about the senselessness of his death. That doesn't mean we're trying to cancel him.

by Anonymousreply 67January 21, 2022 1:49 PM

Think it was a little heartbreak and loneliness that did him in, too. Jim Steinman’s death seemed difficult for him to process and move beyond. The two of them had their ups and downs, and weren’t close for a decade or so, but in the most important eras of their careers they were partners and best friends.

The reason I could give a shit less about this Covid-denying ass dying is because they’re the same people who put others their age, like my parents, at risk. Thankfully, my parents are vaccinated, but a lot can’t be. If you’re capable and can be vaccinated, then do your fucking part. He and other anti-vaxxers are nothing but selfish assholes. Zero empathy or sympathy from me.

by Anonymousreply 69January 21, 2022 1:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 70January 21, 2022 2:00 PM

“Everything works if you let it”.

by Anonymousreply 71January 21, 2022 2:02 PM

R63 Yeah, it does matter. It's important that we talk about every fucking anti-vax idiot who's died of COVID.

Maybe...just maybe...by exposing the ignorance of the anti-vax cult, people will finally start to figure out that getting vaccinated prevents you from becoming cold Meatloaf.

by Anonymousreply 72January 21, 2022 2:06 PM

^ Well, said

by Anonymousreply 73January 21, 2022 2:07 PM

I saw him on "Celebrity Apprentice" and he seemed pretty nuts...like Roseanne Barr level unstable/mentally ill.

I don't know if that experience with Trump was what turned him into a hardcore Trumpster (I seem to vaguely recall him endorsing Romney as well, so...), but, yeah, he was all in.

Musically, he wasn't particularly my cup of tea personally, but I could enjoy him in small doses. He certainly did stake out a spot in the rock and roll pantheon that was uniquely his own. There's never been anyone quite like him, which is saying something.

RIP, Fatso.

by Anonymousreply 74January 21, 2022 2:16 PM

Basically a novelty has-been and his obits demuring on the vax issue makes him seem like more of a F-lister.

by Anonymousreply 75January 21, 2022 2:22 PM

Some people are just plain easy prey for right wing nuttery. They are not bad, just simple-minded and get easily manipulated by all the fear and hate mongering.

by Anonymousreply 76January 21, 2022 2:35 PM

TMZ is pretty fucking accurate despite the bad rep it gets.

by Anonymousreply 77January 21, 2022 2:36 PM

Meat Loaf aged fast. I saw him on a talk show in 2000 or so vs a decade later and his acuity was markedly different.

Great singer though, and he has more than 5 good songs which is more than you can say for most performers.

by Anonymousreply 82January 21, 2022 2:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 83January 21, 2022 3:04 PM

Was he actually anti-vax or against forced vaccinations and masks? There is a difference.

But if he wouldn’t disclose his vaccination status, that makes me think he was actually anti-vax. Because there are two options.

1. As a fat aging asthmatic, he was vaccinated. So why not say so? He could stall have said, “I don’t think everyone else should be forced to be at this point.” That makes him seem somewhat reasonable. So if he was vaxed and NOT saying that, it implies he was against the vaccines and a hypocrite.

2. He was not vaccinated, which is batshit, given his physical condition.

I always loved this one - underrated, IMO.

He was an asshole. I'm surprised he lived this long considering how much he abused his body for decades.

He won't be missed.

He spoke at rallies for both Romney and Trump, he called Greta Thurnberg 'brainwashed' and then said that he's not a Republican. No integrity at all.

He's been a POS his entire life. Even listen to his lyrics in his songs - which are pretty much the same template anyway - they're all the same and he comes across as a dick.

The news reports anything negative said about the vaccines or lockdowns that was said by a person. They act like they had it coming. He was most likely vaccinated since he was working on a new TV show. That will get brushed aside if it comes out.

Vaccinated, or unvaccinated, he was overweight and 74 years old. People die.

I wasn't a huge fan, but Meatloaf's vocal theatrics were definitely due to his theater background. He was initially pushed as a soul/R'n'B singer. He was first signed to Motown. I did enjoy his performance in The Rocky Horror Show film.

As I posted upthread, he was a theater nerd in high school. Meatloaf then went on to musical theater, in both LA and in NYC.

Some of these posts are ridiculous. Lots of people commenting negatively without knowing much about a performer's background. Reading comprehension doesn't seem to exist these days.

For example, I don't go into reality show threads, because I don't give a shit about those talent-free empty morons. Why waste precious time such vapid people, people who contribute nothing to society.

I work in the music. biz, I also enjoy all sorts of music. I am knowledgable about the backgrounds of many performers. Even though I might not be a fan of specific singers and bands, I sure do know about their ascent in the business.

by Anonymousreply 117January 22, 2022 12:10 AM

I love the duet he did with Isaac Hayes for the South Park album.

Seems like he was an anti-vax idiot. Oh well, another bites the dust.

In that "I would do anything for love (but I won't do that)" video, you can really see his theatricality and his theater background come out.

Despite his politics, you can really see how talentend he was.

by Anonymousreply 121January 22, 2022 9:08 AM

Meat Loaf's death warranted a front page obit in the NYT?!

by Anonymousreply 122January 22, 2022 12:43 PM

Must be a slow news day, R122.

by Anonymousreply 123January 22, 2022 2:55 PM

Meatloaf was a huge star worldwide. Of course it would make the front page of The New York Times.

Duh.

by Anonymousreply 124January 22, 2022 3:14 PM

Did it mention if he was found in the nude?

by Anonymousreply 125January 22, 2022 3:18 PM

Witqh your mama.

by Anonymousreply 126January 22, 2022 3:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 127January 22, 2022 3:39 PM

So will he be cremated? Or just baked at 350 degrees for an hour?

by Anonymousreply 128January 22, 2022 3:52 PM

[quote]What does "but I won't do that" refer to?

This is one of those jokes that just hasn't worn well at all. People thought it was high-larious back in 1993, but 30 years on, it's worn out its welcome.

So of course it was posted multiple times.

[quote] ‘If I Die, I Die’: Meat Loaf Spurned COVID Rules Before Death

Theatrical rock superstar Meat Loaf, whose Bat Out of Hell is one of the bestselling albums of all time, has died at the age of 74. Reports say the singer and actor had recently fallen sick with COVID-19.

In an emotional statement posted to Facebook early Friday, the performer’s family said he was with his wife when he died and had said his final goodbyes to his two daughters in the past 24 hours. The star sold 100 million albums in his five-decade career and starred in movies including Fight Club, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Wayne’s World, and did a stint on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice reality-TV show.

“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man,” the family wrote in its announcement. “From his heart to your souls… don’t ever stop rocking!”

No cause of death was confirmed, but TMZ reported that Meat Loaf—whose real name was Marvin Lee Aday—died after falling “seriously ill” with COVID-19 in recent weeks. According to the site, he canceled a business meeting this week for a planned reality show named after his hit “I’d Do Anything for Love (but I Won’t Do That).”

Meat Loaf’s daughter Pearl Aday posted on Instagram on Jan. 7 that several of her friends and family had recently tested positive. “We are not sick, but we have too many friends and family testing positive right now, positive but doing ok,” she wrote. “Thank their respect for science that they’re all vaxxed, otherwise they’d be way worse.”

The singer’s vaccine status isn’t known, but TMZ reported that he had recently spoken out against planned vaccine mandates in Australia.

The Daily Beast reached out to his manager Michael Greene for comment on his cause of death.

In May, he posted a clip of Eric Clapton’s anti-lockdown song “Stand and Deliver,” and, in what appears to be one of his last interviews, Meat Loaf appeared to be losing patience with pandemic measures.

Speaking to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in August last year, he told the interviewer “I hug people in the middle of COVID,” and said: “I understood stopping life for a little while, but they cannot continue to stop life because of politics. And right now they’re stopping because of politics.”

The singer went on to complain about being asked to wear a mask on a plane, stating that he didn’t believe paper masks were as good at N95s at stopping the coronavirus from spreading. “We had to go on the airplane with the paper masks and then on the way back, we got a Nazi: ‘Get your mask on now!’ They’re power-mad now,” he told the paper.

After the interviewer replied, “Oh, God. We’re being controlled by everybody,” the singer responded ominously, “Yeah, I know. But not me. If I die, I die, but I’m not going to be controlled.”

Never understood what the attraction was. His music sucked & he was a wing nut. Read several interviews with him and he was a cement head. His answers made as much sense as no soap radio.

by Anonymousreply 131January 22, 2022 5:12 PM

R121: Not really. He had a popular album with an unavoidable hit single. You could say the same thing about someone like Rick Springfield or Christopher Cross. Even adding "Rocky Horror" to the mix doesn't make him anything more than a happily forgotten pop culture phenom that didn't last long.

by Anonymousreply 132January 22, 2022 6:12 PM

Meatloaf sold way more records and albums that Springfield or Cross ever did r132. Bat Out of Hell was a monster seller, and the sequel concept album in the early 90s equally so. He made a ton of money for the music biz people.

by Anonymousreply 133January 22, 2022 6:31 PM

R133 And yet, he was a fucking anti-vax MAGAt who's now six feet under.

Derpity derp derp derp!

by Anonymousreply 134January 22, 2022 6:34 PM

Meat Loaf always struck me as someone who was probably never correctly trained how to use his voice and would shred it by the end of a concert repeatedly.

by Anonymousreply 135January 22, 2022 7:39 PM

I never liked him and his cliche titled songs: "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad", "Bat Out of Hell", "For Crying Out Loud", "You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth." I though "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" was mildly amusing. I don't think his death is anything to go in deep mourning over.

by Anonymousreply 136January 22, 2022 8:05 PM

I always thought he did "Hot Child In the City" but that was some other 70s guy.

by Anonymousreply 137January 22, 2022 8:11 PM

R137 Nick Gilder. About a 200 pound difference.

Are there any other "huge" stars, reduced to being on Celebrity Apprentice, whose deaths might also merit front page NYT coverage? Did Joan Rivers merit front page coverage on her death?

by Anonymousreply 139January 22, 2022 8:27 PM

Did he receive a Kennedy Center Honors, or get inducted into the RockN Roll Hall of Fame?

by Anonymousreply 140January 22, 2022 8:30 PM

"What does "but I won't do that" refer to?"

I know, but I'm too vain to tell you

by Anonymousreply 141January 22, 2022 8:36 PM

Are you deaf? Nick Gilder sounded for all the world like a female.

by Anonymousreply 142January 22, 2022 8:57 PM

Those who can only think in party politics all day, even when an artist died, can kindly go and found a colony where everyone's beliefs are checked on admission. Good luck there. Meanwhile, the rest of us can enjoy a world that has nuances, controversy, and most of all: art. It's a win-win.

by Anonymousreply 143January 23, 2022 10:40 PM

[quote] Did he receive a Kennedy Center Honors

No, but the Dallas native was apparently at Parkland Hospital on 11/22/63.

This is the most bizarre Meat Loaf headline I've seen so far.

by Anonymousreply 149January 24, 2022 12:28 AM

R145 "... lesbianism for people of all genders": Word salad. Huffpost and Slate are indistinguishable from satire.

by Anonymousreply 150January 24, 2022 12:39 AM

You know now that I remember it, Meatloaf's young daughters were bridesmaids at Diana's fancy European wedding to her 2nd husband, Arne Naess. The little blond girl is one of his, I believe.

Don't ask me how I remember useless celebrity trivia like this ^^

It only comes in handy at times like this, when someone dies.

by Anonymousreply 152January 24, 2022 1:33 AM

He was a hack. So was that fucking Jim Steinman, who wrote most of Meat Loaf's songs. Steinman wrote ONE song and shit out multiple versions of it during his "career".

"Tonight is what it means to be young" is "Forever's gonna start tonight."

Nobody misses Steinman and nobody's gonna miss Meat Loaf. Except for McDonalds, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.

by Anonymousreply 153January 24, 2022 4:19 AM

Jim Steinman's overwrought ballads were very entertaining. Total Eclipse of the Heart is one of the best songs of the 80s. r153 is a dumbass cunt.

by Anonymousreply 154January 24, 2022 4:36 AM

You didn’t get out at all during the 80s, did you dipshit R154?

by Anonymousreply 155January 24, 2022 4:50 AM

r155 you're a sad case

by Anonymousreply 156January 24, 2022 5:15 AM

"I'm lonely and want attention."

by Anonymousreply 157January 24, 2022 5:50 AM

I’m still hoping that at the funeral Bonnie Tyler rises out of a trap door on a lift to a substantial height, wind machines blowing at her in her long white flowing gown and sings a montage of his best known hits.

by Anonymousreply 158January 24, 2022 9:10 AM

R154: Overwrought melodrama only makes good music in opera.

by Anonymousreply 159January 24, 2022 11:57 AM

Will his funeral be televised? CNN's Leana Wen should cover it.

by Anonymousreply 160January 24, 2022 1:29 PM

And pop songs too r159

by Anonymousreply 161January 24, 2022 3:12 PM

Just not anything by Steinman or Meat Loaf R161.

by Anonymousreply 162January 24, 2022 3:44 PM

Those songs are beloved r162. So you're wrong.

by Anonymousreply 163January 24, 2022 3:54 PM

By who, R163, stoners and bikers? Quality demographic there. So I'm right.

by Anonymousreply 164January 25, 2022 2:22 AM

R164, it definitely wasn’t just stoners and bikers. I’m old enough to remember and he was a huge rock/pop star when Bat Out of Hell came out. It’s not up there with The Who, but it rivals/tops anything that the big rock/pop bands put out. And I wasn’t a huge fan… but it was good, fun stuff.

by Anonymousreply 165January 25, 2022 2:27 AM

If you don't like Total Eclipse Of the Heart you're just an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 166January 25, 2022 2:46 AM

You seriously need to expand your limited worldview R166. Your post is just sad.

by Anonymousreply 167January 25, 2022 2:49 AM

R166: One of the most overplayed songs of it's time. You're delusional if you're so attached to it.

by Anonymousreply 168January 25, 2022 2:58 AM

He had a fat ass, but he couldn't live forever.

Stupid fucker anti masks, he said the liberals politicized them, when is the opposite, like we like to use them and have problems to breathe and get acne, etc.

by Anonymousreply 169January 25, 2022 3:04 AM

What nasty joyless cunts r167/68 are

by Anonymousreply 170January 25, 2022 3:09 AM

Way to double down on your retardation R170/R166.

by Anonymousreply 171January 25, 2022 3:35 AM

^^Terrible

by Anonymousreply 172January 25, 2022 3:54 AM

Steinman's songs were fun, epic pop ballads. Very entertaining to listen to. He was certainly doing something different.

by Anonymousreply 173January 25, 2022 3:54 AM

Steinman’s songs are ubiquitous and I’d dare say many are more recognizable to the under-21s than even the best of Elvis, the Beatles or The Rolling Stones…

by Anonymousreply 174January 25, 2022 6:39 AM

Even if that were true, it doesn't speak well of under-21s R174. You really shouldn't try to defend your point, it shows how limited you are.

by Anonymousreply 175January 25, 2022 1:04 PM

Who knew we had a "Meat Loaf loon"? I'd rather have the Sue Ane Langdon loon back.
