Michael York
Why is he not a "DL Legend" like so many others of his time.
To me, he has always been a very good looking, intelligent, and classy man. I've had a crush on Mr. Michael York for a very long time.
He was in The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo & Juliet, Cabaret, Lost Horizon, The Three Musketeers, Great Expectations, Murder on the Orient Express, The Island of Dr. Moreau, Logan's Run, Phantom of Death, and the Austin Powers films.

R1 York has a disease. One of the reasons he stopped working in the 1980's and 1990's.

I met him at a hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2007. I mistook him for Michael Caine but corrected myself. He was very polite and modest. A nice fellow.

What disease does he have? Any other stories?

Love Michael York. I'm sorry he's ill. In the day, he was gorgeous. Or at least of a type. One of my favorite quotes from any film is:
Brian: Screw Maximilian!
Sally: I do.
Brian: So do I.
I was a silly young closeted gay boy and I think I got hard hearing that.

Why hasn't Logan's Run been re-made? It is a classic 70's science fiction film.

Logan’s Run became a TV series starring Gregory Harrison.

He has worked for decades, and always delivered good performances. And has done fun camp shit along the way. He looks different now...

By no means is he a washed-up out of work actor, but he kind of disappeared. I know he has a disease, but I do not think that stopped him. In the late 60's/early 70's he was in some of the biggest movies of the decade- Romeo & Juliet, The Three Musketeers, Murder on the Orient Express, and Logan's Run. In the late 1990's/early 2000's, he did the Austin Powers films. In between and after he has done some stage performances and had a recurring voice role in Batman: the Animated Series and Justice League. Do you think the Island of Dr. Moreau ruin his career the way it did Val Kilmer's? Is he just smart with his money and figured out how to work little? Was he just a bad actor? He does seem to be stable and not crazy. Definitely the old school, classy British-type. (01/05/2021)
I think what really did in his career was this movie where he played himself. By doing so he crossed a line between what he could do as an actor and who he actually was and how limited his skills were, and this is coming from someone who really liked him. It shattered any illusion a performance of his could give.

When I was a little kid, he and Michael Sarrazin were pretty big stars and they reminded me of one another, both kind of low-key and pretty/handsome. Logan‘s Run was more or less remade into that awful movie with Scarlett Johansson and Ewan McGregor.

He was at his hottest twink-wise in the comedy Something for Everyone, playing a bisexual gigolo who fucked everyone to get ahead. It also starred DL fave Angela Lansbury, playing a privileged bitch, which was her usual movie role at the time, 1970. The film is hard to find but is worth seeking out.

R6 Apparently (and according to a Google search), he was first diagnosed with bone cancer, until doctors discovered it was actually amyloidosis, a blood disorder that breaks down tissues and leaves abnormal deposits in the body. The condition is rare, and often fatal.

Yes he did.
But that was negated by his broken nose. It was utterly distracting — like a clenched fist in the middle of his face.

I don't know how his illness affects his current life.
His last film credit was eight years ago.
