Well?
There's chicken salad and tuna salad. Why isn't there beef salad?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | January 20, 2022 9:53 PM |
We really needed two chicken salad threads in 24 hours?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 17, 2022 11:23 PM |
Why isn't there mouse flavor cat food? I see beef flavor and I've never seen a cat attack a cow so why not mouse flavor cat food? Or rat, frog, rabbit, bird?
In answer to your question, maybe the thought of chopped up beef with mayo is revolting?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 17, 2022 11:23 PM |
This thread isn't about chicken salad. It's about the lack of beef salad in our lives.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 17, 2022 11:23 PM |
There is beef salad, OP. You need to get out more.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 17, 2022 11:24 PM |
There is
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 17, 2022 11:24 PM |
Where is it?? I didn't see any at HEB.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 17, 2022 11:25 PM |
Isn't that chipped beef they serve in the military basically beef salad?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 17, 2022 11:25 PM |
OP types "mobility scooter" fat.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 17, 2022 11:26 PM |
I have to join the military to get beef salad??
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 17, 2022 11:26 PM |
Ham salad is pretty damn tasty,
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 17, 2022 11:27 PM |
Isn’t steak tartare beef salad?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 17, 2022 11:29 PM |
Thai beef salad is the best.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 17, 2022 11:29 PM |
Chicken and tuna are made into "salads" for sandwiches b/c they're lean meats & mayonnaise rounds things out.
Hamburgers (beef sandwiches) have about 20% fat or so. Thus, no need to make beef salad.
There's also beef / French dip sandwiches to mitigate lean, sliced beef.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 17, 2022 11:30 PM |
Steak salad is wonderful with celery, avocados, cherry tomatoes. Arugula and a balsamic dressing.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 17, 2022 11:30 PM |
I've had beef salad. It was basically a lettuce salad with tomato wedges, blue cheese dressing and strips of sauteed beef.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 17, 2022 11:33 PM |
There is a French-Swiss salad called "salade de museau de bœuf" - its parts of the cows face in vinaigrette. Bon appetit!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 17, 2022 11:38 PM |
Growing up long ago in the rural South, R17, my extended family killed pigs in the Fall and the women made "head cheese" out of the pig's head. I remember carrying the heads up to them as a child.

R13, indeed
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 17, 2022 11:46 PM |

And chopped up fish with mayo isn’t?

Are all of you who are posting about green lettuce salad retarded?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 17, 2022 11:53 PM |
Here are a thousand or so, OP, you idiot and pile of bullshit. Drop a dandelion on yourself and technically it will be a beef sandwich, with hints of pork, we are sure.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 17, 2022 11:56 PM |
Beef salad sounds like a positively vulgar sex act!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 18, 2022 12:01 AM |
In Italy you can order Carne Salada or Bresaola to accompany a salad if you like, both are beef, probably not a traditional way to eat it but if you're paying?
Neither are difficult to find here in the UK.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 18, 2022 12:09 AM |
You people are a bunch of salad no it alls!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 18, 2022 12:11 AM |
I used to order beef salad at my local Thai restaurant. Beef was served cold with lemon juice and Thai spices and a little lettuce. Absolutely delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 18, 2022 12:12 AM |
Again, no one is talking about topping green salad with beef. That’s like giving you Caesar salad topped with chicken when you asked for chicken salad.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 18, 2022 12:14 AM |
Because it sounds disgusting. However ham salad is very good.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 18, 2022 12:15 AM |
[quote] However ham salad is very good.
WRONG!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 18, 2022 12:15 AM |
Beef salad is not unusual in the UK, but it needs a decent dressing so it isn't dry.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 18, 2022 12:19 AM |
A beef salad is called a taco
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 18, 2022 12:40 AM |
In the US it could also be a Doner Kebab.
The rest of the world makes them with lamb.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 18, 2022 12:47 AM |
Ham salad sounds delightful to me.
But then my family made lunch meat themselves out of pig's heads.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 18, 2022 1:06 AM |
I have had a sandwich made with leftover roast beef. Cubed up, mixed with mayonnaise, placed between slices of bread. Very good.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 18, 2022 1:08 AM |
I think you may be onto something with the mouse cat-food, R2.
And chopped up rats with chicken and rice is something I'd like to see presented to Purina very shortly.

Harvest free range rats please!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 18, 2022 1:30 AM |
Taco Salad is a form of beef salad.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 18, 2022 5:11 AM |
You could cut up a cold steak and throw it on some lettuce, tomato, olive oil and vinegar. I also like to make a hamburger salad with hamburger, lettuce, tomato and thousand island dressing.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 18, 2022 5:45 AM |
[quote] You could cut up a cold steak and throw it on some lettuce, tomato, olive oil and vinegar.
You could also throw some grilled chicken or grilled ahi on top of some lettuce and tomato but that wasn’t what OP was talking about.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 18, 2022 5:48 AM |
Hmm, the reason I don’t eat any of the various “salads,” such as chicken and ham is because I dislike mayonnaise. I bet a roast beef salad with a creamy horseradish in place of the mayo would be divine.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 18, 2022 5:57 AM |
If I put lettuce on a hamburger, remove the bun and eat it with a knife and fork, is it a beef salad? I can drizzle vinaigrette over it, if that helps!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 18, 2022 6:20 AM |
All the people who keep mentioning lettuce are stupider than fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 18, 2022 6:32 AM |
Cold corned beef hash is basically "beef salad" if you want something of the texture of chicken salad or ham salad, although I think I just threw up a little in my mouth thinking about it.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 18, 2022 6:48 AM |
Do Americans really not have beef salad (as seen in r33)?
It's as common as chicken salad here in NZ, and yes r46 - it comes on top of lettuce.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 18, 2022 6:55 AM |
My father was very happy this weekend to see that the store was once again well stocked in what in my family refers to as S.O.S. or Shit On a Shingle, or chipped beef. This is basically a beef salad on toast. He bought many.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 18, 2022 9:37 AM |
[quote]We really needed two chicken salad threads in 24 hours?
OP has been going out of their way to bump recent threads and start duplicates of threads we already have. I'm surprised more people aren't irritated that the front page of DL is the same every day, day in and day out.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 18, 2022 9:55 AM |
Poor OP. All these stupid replies showing salad with beef draped over it.
OP is talking about spreadable beef salad like Tuna salad and chicken salad (and egg salad).
Damn good question, too.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 18, 2022 10:56 AM |
The best beef salad is made with beef curtains.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 18, 2022 10:59 AM |
Add mayo and stir.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 18, 2022 11:06 AM |
Because that would be disgusting, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 18, 2022 5:23 PM |
A corollary might be, since there are beef curtains, why aren’t there chicken or fish curtains?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 18, 2022 5:43 PM |
Too strong a flavor. It’s also why turkey salad is disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 18, 2022 5:55 PM |
When I was a kid, they had ham salad.
I guess they still have egg salad, but it used to be more popular.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 18, 2022 5:56 PM |
Which came first, the chicken salad or the egg salad?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 18, 2022 6:11 PM |
Egg salad rules !
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 18, 2022 9:12 PM |
OP will simply be in shambles when she discovers there's no pork salad, either.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 18, 2022 9:41 PM |
I like those high tea places that have egg salad and the eggs were soaked (bathed?) in tea, something like a Lapsang Souchong and then made into egg salad. I don’t know if there’s a special name for that or what. A nice sprig of dill or freshly chopped chives as a garnish on it is lovely as well.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 18, 2022 9:43 PM |
Because leftover roast beef or steak takes the form of a slab that is easy to slice up for a sandwich, unlike canned tuma or bits of leftover chicken.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 18, 2022 9:48 PM |
R62 ham salad

Isn't white Albercore tuna popular in the US because it doesn't taste 'fishy', same with Talapia which is cat food in the rest of the world.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 19, 2022 1:56 AM |
Chunk light tuna makes a far preferable tuna fish salad. It's made from different species than albacore, which is one of the most mercury-laden types of tuna. To me, canned albacore is both dry and somewhat tasteless, although fresh it makes decent sushi.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 19, 2022 8:30 AM |
R67 I hate chunk light tuna. It's actually skipjack, disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 19, 2022 4:38 PM |
Hey, r66 -- I hear they catch that albercore tuna off Cuber.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 19, 2022 4:43 PM |
Green salad with thin sliced, medium rare filet on top with a vinaigrette dressing. Delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 19, 2022 5:03 PM |
Egg salad, tuna salad and chicken salad are deli staples. Many delis have Jewish roots. You don't mix meat and dairy, hence no beef mixed up with mayonnaise.
I used to go to a Jewish deli that had individual mayo packets. They refused to put mayo on if you ordered a roast beef or pastrami sandwich with mayo.

Never understood this. I saw a Property Brothers episode one where an Orthodox Jewish couple were looking for a house and they needed two kitchens, another bizarre, needless request.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 19, 2022 7:49 PM |
R77 I suggest you Google why a good Jewish household has two kitchens!

by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 19, 2022 8:25 PM |
Yeah, I guess there isn’t a spreadable “salad”. But the Silver Palate ladies have a nice recipe for leftover London broil slices, served cold. There’s a horseradish cream dressing and tomato slices. I just cut it up and drown it in the stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 19, 2022 8:32 PM |
R79 to keep meat and dairy separate. They have separate cutlery and appliances per kosher requirements.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 19, 2022 8:37 PM |
R72 mayo has no dairy in it. But I can see some thinking it does, or thinking one might run the risk of somehow incorporating milk in some mayo-like thing so better be safe. R73, meat in this context is defined as kosher mammals, or something that can potentially be boiled in its mothers milk which is forbidden.

by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 19, 2022 10:03 PM |
I'm not Jewish, but it didn't take much research to establish that there is no prohibition on eating mayonnaise with beef or any other kosher meat because eggs are not considered dairy (or meat, for that matter). . (Obviously ham salad is not kosher). There might be some sort of dressings that look somewhat like mayonnaise, such as ranch dressing, that would be forbidden at meat meals because they contain dairy products. If a non-Jewish person would be interested in trying to eat kosher, (very unlikely), he would start looking at labels for something called pareve. That word means that the food is neither meat nor dairy, and thus can be used either in a dairy meal or a meat meal. Most mayonnaise brands will have a pareve marking somewhere on their labels, particularly in areas of the country that have a sizeable Jewish population. More challenging is remembering not to have butter in a meal that has meat. That can be a problem if you are serving potatoes or bread, so it's important to have some sort of margarine with no dairy ingredients available in that sort of situation. Obviously you can't cook meat with butter or have any sort of cheese at a meat meal. But many margarines DO have dairy ingredients so again, so an observant Jew would have to look at labels very carefully. Fleischmans's margarine is an example of a non-dairy margarine.
