The Power of the Dog was the best movie of 2021

There! I said it.

Don't even get me started on that Belfast crap.

by Anonymousreply 24February 15, 2022 6:28 AM

I totally agree! Kodi deserves that Oscar like no other this year.

by Anonymousreply 1January 17, 2022 6:02 PM

If it wins Best Picture I won't be mad.

by Anonymousreply 2January 17, 2022 6:13 PM

Azor (Swiss film) was also excellent if obscure. I was happy to see it on the NYT list for films that deserve an Oscar nod for best picture of the year.

by Anonymousreply 3January 17, 2022 6:17 PM

Well, it was no Lost Daughter thankfully.

by Anonymousreply 4January 17, 2022 6:19 PM

I feel bad to say this since everyone loves it but I did not.

by Anonymousreply 5January 17, 2022 11:36 PM

It was the kind of movie Celluloid Closet bemoaned. The psychotic gay who was to die by the end.

by Anonymousreply 6January 18, 2022 12:03 AM

[ R3 ] Azor was fantastic. One of the years best. What's most impressive is that it is a debut feature film. An intelligent and engaging thriller.

Also was quite impressed with The Power of the Dog and Jane Campion's direction.

by Anonymousreply 7January 18, 2022 12:24 AM

Benedick was so repulsively sexy.

by Anonymousreply 8January 18, 2022 12:31 AM

R6 Spoiler alert please!

by Anonymousreply 9January 18, 2022 12:34 AM

Fuck The Celluloid Closet. There I said it. Come fight me.

by Anonymousreply 10January 18, 2022 12:40 AM

The Celluloid closet is quite dated, we’ve gone full circle, gays can be dead psychos again, especially if there’s Oscar potential.

I finally saw The Power Of The Dog yesterday. I absolutely loved it. It was like Days Of Heaven meets a thriller.

I must say that I am really surprised at the Kirsten Dunst criticism. It's a GREAT role and I can now see her winning this.

If the film took every award, I would be thrilled.

I watched it twice as I did somehow miss some key plot points (and researched online why I was so confused)

Its all there in the film.

9/10 and I hope it wins everything.

The only other film this year that I +thoroughly+ enjoyed that wasn't a slasher was Last Night In Soho- which won't be nominated for shit.

I hated the Ricky/Lucy film and have yet to see House of Gucci.

by Anonymousreply 12January 18, 2022 12:43 AM

Hated it.

If it helps, also hated The Lost Daughter and Being the Ricardos and The Hand of God as well.

by Anonymousreply 13January 18, 2022 12:46 AM

Nice scenery but boring film.

by Anonymousreply 14January 18, 2022 12:48 AM

I still can’t believe they didn’t get Celine Dion to do a song for the end credits.

by Anonymousreply 15January 18, 2022 12:55 AM

The first half is boring. I liked Don't Look Up much better.

by Anonymousreply 16January 18, 2022 12:58 AM

We loved it and weren't bored at all.

by Anonymousreply 17January 18, 2022 2:00 AM

"I watched it twice as I did somehow miss some key plot points (and researched online why I was so confused) Its all there in the film."

What did you miss the first time? I'm just curious to see if it was something I overlooked, too.

by Anonymousreply 18February 15, 2022 4:34 AM

Don't Look Up. Best god damn Picture of the year.

by Anonymousreply 19February 15, 2022 4:37 AM

[quote] There! I said it.

*gasp*

You REBEL!

Do you DARE???

by Anonymousreply 20February 15, 2022 4:50 AM

The film was neutered. Kodi should have been sucking. There should have been fucking.

by Anonymousreply 21February 15, 2022 4:56 AM

There will be in the inevitable XXX porn parody, r21: "The Power of the Dong."

by Anonymousreply 22February 15, 2022 4:58 AM

It screamed Jane Campion. She's too predictable as a director and storyteller.

by Anonymousreply 23February 15, 2022 6:23 AM

Leading with 12 Oscar nominations The Power of the Dog is a dog.
