World’s 10 richest men see their wealth double during Covid pandemic

And yet somehow my pay effectively went down due these very same men price gouging.

When is this inequality crap going to end? It just keeps getting worse every year.

The 10 richest men in the world have seen their global wealth double to $1.5tn (£1.01tn) since the start of the global pandemic following a surge in share and property prices that has widened the gap between rich and poor, according to a report from Oxfam.

Urging governments to impose a one-off 99% wealth tax on Covid-19 windfall gains, the charity said World Bank figures showed 163 million more people had been driven below the poverty line while the super-rich were benefiting from the stimulus provided by governments around the world to mitigate the impact of the virus.

Sad.

Maybe you should try to be more like Elon.

He was born into nothing. If he can do it, you can.

R3 Elon Musk comes from a wealthy family you idiot.

"Using data reported by Standard & Poor’s, the market analyst Edward Yardeni estimates that 2021 was a year of robust profit margins — the amount companies earn after subtracting their costs. After contracting sharply early in the pandemic, margins jumped to a record-high 13.7 percent in the second quarter before ticking down to 13.6 percent in the third." NYT

In other words, corporations have used Covid inflation as an opportunity to raise prices beyond what was necessary due to the pandemic. It's disgusting how they couldn't even abide flat profits for a year while people died or lost their jobs.

His face is truly punchable, what causes that?

by Anonymousreply 5January 17, 2022 2:39 PM

The poor work for money.

The rich - money works for them.

R6 it’s always been that way but this is obscene these days. It reminds me of the robber barron times.

by Anonymousreply 7January 18, 2022 11:08 AM

Only TFG spells "baron" with two r's.

Meanwhile the minimum wage is only $7.25. Republicans are ruining everything. It gets old.

by Anonymousreply 9January 18, 2022 11:18 AM

Thank you r4 who is much more eloquent than I.

This is terrible for the country. We learned that back in the Rockefeller days. Didn’t they used to shoot their workers? We’re not far off from that.

by Anonymousreply 11January 18, 2022 11:40 AM

The economic situation out there is now so grotesque and bleak.

For every sucker paying inflated rent there is some millionaire raking it in. They are swimming in money. Not to mention the mega large rental companies. They are printing money. Pure profit.

It's completely corrupt and unjustifiable that the rich keep getting richer. There is no financial balance in society. Majority are living in poverty, while the minority have money that could stretch over for lifetimes. And somehow society allows this and rewards it.

by Anonymousreply 13January 18, 2022 12:28 PM

And what's Elon Musk going to achieve on Mars if he somehow made it there? Ruin another planet and get richer on Mars? He can't even manage to be a responsible father.

by Anonymousreply 14January 18, 2022 12:30 PM

There always going to be inequality, but this is absolutely obscene.

by Anonymousreply 15January 18, 2022 12:30 PM

R3 is a prime example of the excuses used to look the other way on corruption and heinous greed.
