I'd have to change the dining room immediately and eventually change the paint color in a few rooms. but the period details are irresistible.
Tasteful Friends: Be still my "old money" heart

Why is it so cheap? It’s beautiful. Is Amsterdam a ghetto or something?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 16, 2022 11:41 PM |
Quite the bargain.

Here's your backup in Amsterdam OP
Needs more renovation, but appears larger - 7 BR/7BA

It's near-ish to Albany R1 (I googled) and appears to be one of those small cities that was thriving up until WWII and has been on the downswing ever since--population is half what it was 100 years ago

Why are Tasteful Friends posts always about giant mansions, when must of us live alone or at most with a partner?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 17, 2022 12:18 AM |
R4, that is a Stephen King novel inspiration.

The house is fantastic - a paint job would work wonders.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 17, 2022 12:23 AM |
Something must be wrong with it because it has been on the market 300 days.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 17, 2022 12:30 AM |
I'll take it ! But redo the wall treatments especially the horrid yellow in the kitchen , being in the kitchen for hours with that color would make my anger boil.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 17, 2022 12:50 AM |
The house has potential - probably a lot of deferred maintenance and repairs
A lot of the interior is over-the top...so cluttered and distracting
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 17, 2022 4:35 AM |
But like R3 said, the poors are right across the street, with no hedge or wall to keep them out. They'd be watching every move you made, and would probably hate you just because. Great house, wrong place.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 17, 2022 5:00 AM |
R12, not so fast…in a house like that. You’ll need plenty of help.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 17, 2022 5:12 AM |
Besides, it’s noting a few tall shrubs couldn’t fix.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 17, 2022 5:15 AM |
You won’t see the poors. But it is the middle of nowhere.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 17, 2022 5:22 AM |
Amsterdam is a depressing city. Very. I think you’re about eighty years too late.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 17, 2022 5:59 AM |
Not far from Saratoga Springs, and even River Street Club, a small gay bath in nearby Troy, NY.
And, near good education at SUNY Albany, Union College, Skidmore College and RPI.

Very stately, looks like a family has lived there for generations. Love the Remingtons. I like the mostly masculine decor as well
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 17, 2022 6:40 AM |
I grew up in the Capital District. We looked down on Amsterdam. It was once known for carpet factories but certainly by the time I was born, it was a depressed, shrinking city.
I don't think I've been there though, to be honest.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 17, 2022 7:20 AM |
It's nice on the outside. Though, inside it is disjointed and ugly. Don't people have access to pictures who are decorating. And why not take pictutes with the fire lit in the fireplaces? That seems stupid. Do they not work? I really like the outside.

people want to go to space with these psycho billionaires, but they cannot treat employees right here on Earth.
You are all going to die.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 17, 2022 7:29 AM |
R21 = psycho poor.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 17, 2022 2:51 PM |
@r21, this is not exactly the house of a billionaire who succeeded on the backs of the oppressed. This is more local Doctor level
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 17, 2022 4:27 PM |
It's likely sat on the market for so long R9 because there just aren't a whole lot of people who'd want to drop $1MM on a house in Amsterdam, NY
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 17, 2022 4:31 PM |
Does anyone know what that cabinet-like thing built into the radiator is?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 17, 2022 4:36 PM |
^ Easy, looks to be in a butler's pantry so it was probably used to keep food warm
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 17, 2022 4:41 PM |
Ah, it's a radiator oven.
Not sure what the "easy" comment was about, r26, I wasn't hosting a quiz show, I was just asking a casual question.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 17, 2022 5:01 PM |
^ Sorry, hon, I just meant it was easy to figure out, for some of us anyway
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 17, 2022 8:52 PM |
easy does it
