I agree with R1 that if she does have some health issue, then she’s tucked away in some ivory tower. I don’t know if the police have checked out her situation, but she doesn’t appear to be listed as a missing person. I would think they’d have to be satisfied that she’s alive and well, and then would be bound to not disclose any health issues she has. I have a hard time thinking Scienos wield that much power over law enforcement these days, but who know$.

I have and unhealthy obsession about Scientology, have read books. Leah Remini has an anti-scientology podcast I listen to. She in the former director of public relations answer questions and reveal all .
He said they Shelly is in, I'm not sure if it's the whole, but there is some place similar that's not as bad. There are people that have been in the hole for 10-15 years. According to him, when there has been welfare checks, they will bring the person out so police can see them but an attorney is present.
FWIW, L Ron did not appoint miscavige, he had some other couple but somehow misgavitch made a power move and got in. Out of all the things Scientology, the fact this guy has power is probably the most baffling.
Definitely recommend the podcast Scientology Fair game. Takes a lot of credit for those two to admit they were swindled.

R40, because Miscavige can kick the person out of the cult. If you get kicked out, you lose everything. If you have family inside the cult, they will be instructed to have no contact with you. If you have family members outside the cult, well, you would have likely been forced to already have cut off contact with them years ago, so they might not welcome you back with open arms. So you will have zero social support system.
Then, you'll be reminded that, at some point, you had signed a paper where you agreed that, if you left the cult, you could be billed for the costs of years of training, housing, and food. They might send you a bill and try to take you to court. You'll have zero savings because you were pressured to give all your money to the church over the years.
You'll need to find a job. But, you have no work history to document, except for some vague positions within the Church of Scientology. No former boss from the "Church" is going to give a good reference for a "suppressive person". They will be instructed to lie and say bad things about you.
You'll also need a place to live. Because the church gave you free housing in a roach-infested dormitory, you now find yourself without a house or apartment of your own. And, you have zero rental history or credit history to document on an application. (Again, no one in the Church is going to give you a good reference.)
If you leave the Church, you will be destitute, with no family and friends, nowhere to live, and no job prospects. That's why these people will accept abuse from the person who has the ability to take everything away from them. It's kind of like being a battered spouse. They just hope he'll eventually come around to valuing them or that he'll shift his focus to someone else.

I'm not sure why someone keeps insisting L. Ron Hubbard selected Miscavige as his successor. He did not. Hubbard was basically in self-imposed exile at the end of his life, and Miscavige staged a brilliant coup to purge the organization of those loyal to Hubbard and to establish power for himself.
Anyone interested in Scientology should read Lawrence Wright's book "Going Clear." It's endlessly fascinating and horrifying at the same time.
And yeah, I assume Shelly is in The Hole or perhaps even dead at this point. They are secretive and litigious, and use the cover of being a tax-exempt religious organization to legally hide or justify disgusting human rights abuses. I wouldn't be surprised if Shelly died (naturally or otherwise) and the "church" managed to sweep it under the rug.

I'm curious how many new parishioners have showed up in the past 5 years. Not only is the secret out about Xenu, but everyone knows about all the fraud involving the money you must spend and the physical abuse people suffer. Well, not everybody, but I can't imagine there's a huge number of incoming folks. This is a challenge for miscavige.
BTW if you want to know what a Philadelphia accent sounds like, just listen to him.

R60, they're still recruiting, but they're using sneaky methods. I went on meetup.com to see if there were any social groups related to my hobbies or goals. I found some advertisements for online webinars to boost self esteem. The webinar description made the webinar look like the session was going to be very helpful and empowering. I registered. Then, a few hours before the event, I reviewed the invite. The small print said that the event was being delivered by the Washington DC Church of Scientology and that handouts would be mailed by USPS after the event. (So, they'll want your mailing address.). Well, I didn't attend the seminar. But they have my email and then send me at least two webinar invites a week.
It's pretty nasty. The topic of the webinar is how to build self confidence. So they are flat out going for people who acknowledge they have low self esteem. After the webinar, they will no doubt push other ways that the "Church" can help these people. The instructors are a married couple. They will probably love bomb the learners and promise them a support system through the church.

I read somwhere that the massive blue building in LA that often features in news articles/documentaties about Scientology is basically all berthing, with bunks crammed into every room. Seems so weird to me that all those people have no homes and spend their lives in crowded dorms. Almost seems like prison.

I love the "Scientology and the Aftermath" series on Netflix. They present some very compelling and damning stories of this nasty cult and its secret activities.
The problem with it is that Leah Remini, while well meaning towards her fellow ex-members, is also self aggrandizing. The title of the show has her name front and center, which I find troubling. It's kind of all about Leah, and the reps for the cult are latching on to that very obvious fact and using their press to deny all accusations and calling out Leah on her famewhoring.
