I disagree. American media did not fail. It only did what it does. It was true to itself.

While I agree they didn’t go hard enough, most people who follow these sources recognize the issue.

The real problem is how many people who just aren’t interested, and the many who have fallen for propaganda and won’t listen in the first place.

American media did not fail. The stupidity and racism of the average American did America in. As LBJ so succinctly stated:

"I'll tell you what's at the bottom of it. If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

The Republican Party has been playing the race card since the days of Nixon's campaign in 1968. They know a good hand when they see one.

I am starting to believe 85% of this site and 90% of political threads are infiltrated by people on payroll. I need to remind myself this when I start to become worked up.

Too many people just won’t get involved and there’s nothing the media can do about that. They can harp on the issue, but these people aren’t even tuning in.

"The US is on the verge of civil war" slash "Democracy is about to die and no one cares" articles are the latest form of media porn.

They get lots of clicks.

They get lots of DLers all worked up. Normal people too.

The fact that Charles Blow who traffics in massively over the top reactions to just about everything is quoted in that piece tells you everything you need to know.

Here's the thing: the people who write these articles are in a no-lose situation.

If we don't become Nazi Germany 2.0, then they can say it is because they warned us, and without them sounding the alarm bells we would have gone there.

If we do, well, they warned us.

Right. People should be stirred into a frenzy by now instead of shopping at Walmart.

Americans don’t have much to live for. We consume and then we die. I think people want to numb themselves and at their core maybe they don’t care what happens. Maybe this country has a death wish.
