They’ll award it to Jane Champion because she’s a movie. But her movie really sucked.

Oh dear r1.

It will go to Jane Campion, Kenneth Branagh or Paul Thomas Anderson, and for most voters it will be for career recognition not their work on the specific movie nominated.
Jane Campion has an edge because she's a woman, Paul Thomas Anderson has an edge because he's American and Kenneth Branagh has an edge because his movie seems to be the most enjoyable and popular of the films.

By the time of the Oscars, Maggie Gyllenhaal will have weaseled her way into a nomination. Don't overlook the fact her mom and brother are past nominees.

It would have gone to Spielberg had WSS not bombed at the box office, so Campion by default.

R2, sorry, I meant to write it will go to Jane Campion because she’s a woman.

This one is practically a lock. Campion.

The French Dispatch was phenomenal...when will the Academy finally give Wes Anderson an Oscar?

"Jane Campion has an edge because she's a woman"
Because the Oscars have awarded so many female directors! Oh, wait, they haven't
