The series is set 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished where a new team has been assembled to restart the project.
I'm looking forward to a sequel. If a concept allows for reboots over and over, then this. The casting sheet worries me a little bit though. 'Addison' sounds like love interest in the 'will they/won't they' scheme. I hope it's not going that route. A nonbinary chief architect is not bad per se. But good luck finding good actors in that tiny pool. Imo, Star Trek Discovery suffered a bit from underwhelming actors to play the part. But then again, Discovery doesn't seem to consider good acting a priority anyway. I better save that for another thread though.

As they say: Why remake a great show when there are so many mediocre show that could be done better?

Can I jump into Scott Bakula's bod and fondle his ten inch cock?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 7, 2022 1:29 AM |
Article at the second link says Bakula isn't involved.

I was just thinking about this show the other day. They should just let it be and not ruin it like all the other remakes and sequels they are doing these days.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 7, 2022 5:29 AM |
My 13 year old gayling self would watch the opening credits every week like clockwork to see Scott Bakula's near naked body. Couldn't care less about the show then. Definitely don't care now.
God, I must have jacked off to that image a million times.

Could Sam leap into any time period or did it have to be a date within his own lifespan? I don’t remember any leaps into the distant past or the future. Loved when he leapt into Lee Oswald and the time he had to suggest to a young Buddy Holly that he should say Peggy Sue instead of Piggy Sue.

I loved the show and it really showcased Bakula's talents.
I would never have guessed he won a Tony Award in 1988 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.
The only part of this which is bad news in my mind is that it makes any subsequent appearance as Archer in Trek less likely to fit into his schedule. There are several upcoming Trek shows where Archer could appear, including the possible anthology series.

No, we don't need more reboots or sequels. They almost always disappoint. We truly live in an era of creativity bankruptcy.

^ Maybe as a general statement. But exceptions exist. Even Hitchcock remade (his own) movies successfully. And theater plays are remade all the time. That works, too, and nobody complains.

While I tend to agree, in general, there are exceptions for those handful of shows that were cancelled, but had a devoted following.
The series finale of the show was required to work as both a season and series finale because they weren't sure whether it would get another season. Quantum Leap never got to do a finale. It sort of just ended.
Other shows like Battlestar Galactica were vastly superior remakes of their originals. I can also see if you create something that takes a poorly executed original premise.
The problem with current reboot and sequels is that they are simply cash grabs for people bereft of creativity and need to create buzz through audience nostalgia, rather than actually having a good premise.

Once or twice Sam leaped outside his own lifetime, I remember him as a Civil War soldier.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 9, 2022 5:25 PM |
I'm surprised this wasn't rebooted sooner. I used to watch this show quite a bit when i was younger. Hope it's half decent compared to some of the other crap that's been churned out over the years.

I was going to call it a bad idea but r15 shows this is for diversity so we MUST do this.

I don't care necessarily that the actor is not white, but he definitely doesn't have the boy next door looks nor charm of Bakula, which could work in any zany situation.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 5, 2022 3:01 AM |
R15 he's cute.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 5, 2022 10:51 AM |
There are different kinds of cuteness.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 5, 2022 2:21 PM |
Like, Daniel Henney could pull off a similar kind of appeal that Bakula has. The gentleman above, no. Which is no detriment to him.
That is, if they are even trying to replicate the flavor of that show. The main character has to have the ability to carry off anything (even full drag), still not appear ridiculous nor lose his masculine sex appeal.
That's a very fine line to dance, and many many cute or handsome actors are probably not able to pull it off.

The lead is Asian
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 9, 2022 2:21 PM |
I hadn't seen this teaser trailer before. Doesn't show much, but it looks like they changed the leap effect.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 27, 2022 12:27 AM |
Also it was announced yesterday the showrunners are being replaced because scripts were late, which may not be a good sign. Neither is this:
"The change comes after the series has shot the first two episodes after the pilot, I hear. As Deadline reported in May, at the time of the Quantum Leap‘s pickup to series NBC was not entirely happy with the pilot. I hear the pilot will still air but not as the series’ opening episode; word it that it may be Episode 3."
Never good when the network decides not to show the actual first episode first.

Ehh, I’d rather see one for Voyagers! with a new John-Erik Hexum and the kid aged up to 18+ and their lovers. Maybe a project for Froy & Richard!

Man, I hope it doesn't suck like The 4400 reboot. I can't take much more of the "go woke, go broke" crowing here on DL from the usual nutty suspects.

[quote]Man, I hope it doesn't suck like The 4400 reboot.
That was truly terrible. I wanted to like it so much. They spent too much time in that hotel getting the story started. (And while the CW's audience "allegedly" is older, the rest of the shows of the network are geared towards younger people. That one should have been too.) It just didn't fit. As for "diversity & inclusion" the cast was no different than the other CW shows. It just sucked.
[quote]Never good when the network decides not to show the actual first episode first.
I do think the lead is cute but there's obviously something going on with the production which just makes me sad.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 4, 2022 3:53 AM |
Trailer.
r37 Yes to all that and I also wanted to like it. They gave that reboot to completely inexperienced showrunners, so I cringe when people say it's the diversity that did it in. No, it was the writing. It's always the writing.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 9, 2022 11:11 AM |
I never watched the original show. But I like the concept, so I will definitely check out the reboot. I think I remember the lead from Kevin can f**** himself. He certainly has the Guy Next Door traits. I just hope the writing is good. I agree with r37. If the writing sucks, direction and acting can only do so much.
