The proposed Voting Rights bill is dead. Manchin & Sinema have killed it.

I predict that this is the last Democratic president we'll see in our lifetimes. Congress will fall this year. This is American representative democracy's swan song. American fascism will take root in 2024. If you think I'm overreacting, bookmark this, then check back on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

They should both be executed those goddamned fucks.

by Anonymousreply 1January 13, 2022 7:17 PM

Good. Split off Jesusland and continue as a modern Republic.

by Anonymousreply 2January 13, 2022 7:20 PM

Time to go nuclear on the filibuster.

by Anonymousreply 3January 13, 2022 7:22 PM

They should be haggled until they die.

by Anonymousreply 4January 13, 2022 7:22 PM

This has been obvious for months. I don't know why the administration and Democrats in Congress went through the pretense of holding out hope for the last year. I guess to convince the base that they were actually taking it seriously.

Manchin, Sinema and the Republicans will be vilified by history, but that's not going to improve our present.

by Anonymousreply 5January 13, 2022 7:22 PM

They are all in on this. Doesn't matter which side of the aisle they are on.

by Anonymousreply 6January 13, 2022 7:26 PM

We need to get the lowdown on who funds them and destroy those businesses. Corporations have no place in politics and no one should be making serious bank as a politician.

by Anonymousreply 7January 13, 2022 7:29 PM

Women in general (and particularly Black women) are tired of rescuing the Democratic Party. Stop taking their votes for granted, Dems.

🎶"Stacey guides us note by note.

Stacey carries lots of clout.

Stacey says we vote, we vote.

Stacey says sit it out, we sit it out."🎶

(Sung to the tune of Blossom Dearie's "My Attorney Bernie.")

[quote]I don't know why the administration and Democrats in Congress went through the pretense of holding out hope for the last year.

They haven't been holding out hope over the last few months, it's been obvious this wouldn't pass as is, and I think this vote was just to get Sinema and Manchin on the record so they will have some repercussions to deal with.

The people who say the Democrats are in on this and have been faking it by "pretending it could pass when they knew it wouldn't" are conspiracy-minded goons.

Maybe Schumer's plan will work. It's not quite over yet.

R7: the Koch-sucker Brothers own Mancin (and his yacht) lock, stock and barrel.

by Anonymousreply 10January 13, 2022 7:45 PM

R8, guess you'd rather have misogynist and racist Republicans in power!

by Anonymousreply 11January 13, 2022 7:47 PM

Who says they are on the take? Not every racist wears a KKK hood or MAGA hat.

by Anonymousreply 12January 13, 2022 7:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 14January 13, 2022 8:24 PM

Yes...Manchin and Sinema are cunts.

by Anonymousreply 15January 13, 2022 9:18 PM

This needs to be fought on a state-by-state level if this cannot be done through Congress.

by Anonymousreply 16January 13, 2022 9:22 PM

I think the Dems overshot in hopes that the Rethugs would come to the table and negotiate some basic protections. They tried...

by Anonymousreply 17January 13, 2022 9:31 PM

WTF is with those two Senators?

If they're so dead set to kill Biden's agenda they could have changed parties and made Mitch McConnell Senate Majority Leader. They are a couple of illogical twats!

by Anonymousreply 18January 13, 2022 10:53 PM

Kyrsten Sinema is going down in flames. Damn that bitch to hell.

by Anonymousreply 19January 13, 2022 11:03 PM

Sinema apparently has eyes on the White House and needs Republican votes but is such an imbecile she thinks she can kill voting rights and people will be so enamored of her they'll ignore that little fact.

by Anonymousreply 20January 13, 2022 11:28 PM

In New York City, the City Council passed a bill that will allow 800,00 residents with Green Cards to vote in local elections beginning in 2023. It's already being challenged, claiming a city can't change the state law that requires only citizens being eligible to vote.

by Anonymousreply 21January 13, 2022 11:46 PM

R20 The Bitch isn't getting anywhere near the white house.

She doesn't even look the part. She's a joke!

by Anonymousreply 22January 14, 2022 6:06 PM

Manchin has never been a Dem.

by Anonymousreply 23January 14, 2022 6:14 PM

Really, once we defeat the authoritarians amongst us - and we will - Kyrsten Sinema should dragged out into the street, stripped of her clothing, rolled in dog shit and then feathers and her head should be shaved for being a collaborator.

by Anonymousreply 24January 15, 2022 2:54 PM

Sinema is too stupid to realise that if she wants to make a run for anything, voting rights need to be a protected. A woman will never be appointed to anything by the authoritarians in the GOP except Chief Cum Slurper.

by Anonymousreply 25January 15, 2022 3:04 PM

[quote] We need to get the lowdown on who funds them and destroy those businesses. Corporations have no place in politics and no one should be making serious bank as a politician.

by Anonymousreply 27January 15, 2022 3:22 PM

Mail-In Votes are the most vulnerable to fraud.

by Anonymousreply 28January 15, 2022 3:23 PM

It's hysterical to me to hear how the Far Left if panicked that the Filibuster won't be canceled because then the Republicans will use its absence later to abusively pass their agenda. Uh... want to think that one through, bitches? Leave the filibuster alone and the Bill would have a much better chance of passing. It's the same God damn shit every time. The Dems load up bills with smelly shit and then freak out that the kernel of original goodness got shot down. SMDH.

by Anonymousreply 29January 15, 2022 3:27 PM

[quote]Mail-In Votes are the most vulnerable to fraud.

And yet, Republican audit after Republican audit found virtually none.

by Anonymousreply 30January 15, 2022 3:37 PM

It was obvious months ago that Sienna and Manchineel wouldn’t change the filibuster rules. Ditto for voting for BBB. Does Niden like to fail or is he being forced into this by the useless and stupid progressives?

by Anonymousreply 31January 15, 2022 3:40 PM

Sinema and Manchin…autocorrect gone mad

by Anonymousreply 32January 15, 2022 3:41 PM

So a couple of moderate cunts once again block everything useful and ... it's the fault of progressives. Never the fault of the ever wise and saintly centrists, cause that's just inconceivable! Just ask the brain dead media. It MUST be somehow magically the fault of AOC and the evil squad. What a bunch of whores centrists and their supporters are.

by Anonymousreply 33January 15, 2022 3:44 PM

[quote]This needs to be fought on a state-by-state level if this cannot be done through Congress.

Unfortunately, in most cases, that means this must be fought in every heavily gerrymandered legislature designed to do jack shit about anything other than feeding the rich.

by Anonymousreply 34January 15, 2022 3:46 PM

Biden needs to show he can be effective. One L after another hurts him and the party. Dems appear to have lost touch with reality pushing bills they know will fail. Stupid.

by Anonymousreply 35January 15, 2022 3:54 PM

To the pearl clutching, hysterical brain dead liberal/progressive woke morons on this thread - what country do you live in???We have a Constitution that is divided into three branches of government preventing your berserk idea that fascism is about to be the lay of the land in 2024. Grow up, and stop being deranged screaming mimi's.

by Anonymousreply 36January 15, 2022 3:54 PM

Well some Dems have certainly lost touch with reality. Manchin thinks that the Republicans are still basically good people earnestly seeking to make a better country and not a gang of crazed baboons howling for blood and fascism. And Sinema is a quirky little dingbat who doesn't know what the fuck she wants or what to do about anything but has some vague and stupid belief that she'll be president of a magically united country someday, cause she's just so gosh darn cute. god, why do we always have to get the stupid flakes while they get crazy cult members who actually do fall in line when the time comes?

by Anonymousreply 37January 15, 2022 4:03 PM

Exactly R33. The U.S. is one of - if not, THE - richest nation in the world but they don't want to invest in sorely needed infrastructure that would only increase their competitiveness in the global economy. It's all short-sighted "I want to stuff my own pockets first" conservatism.

by Anonymousreply 38January 15, 2022 4:13 PM

R36, you're not paying attention. The need for shoring up our voting rights has nothing to do with the Constitution, though that is certainly under threat as well. It's what's happening at a state level that is threatening our democracy.

Also, I guess you didn't notice during Trump's presidency how easily the other 2 branches of gov't can be stymied in the face of complete lawlessness. Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 39January 15, 2022 4:16 PM

Democrats always need a "Lieberman" in the party to use as a scapegoat for why they can't ever do anything. They're just trying so hard, you guys!

by Anonymousreply 40January 15, 2022 4:22 PM

What about the Republicans they voted for Voting Rights in GW Bush's administration and there are still 12 of them in the Senate. That said Manchin and Sinema are both cunts.

by Anonymousreply 41January 15, 2022 4:27 PM

And Kyrsten Sinema was classless making that speech on the floor of the Senate. Right before Biden was going up there. She is so delusional.

by Anonymousreply 42January 15, 2022 4:29 PM

There is a voting rights bill some Rs will vote for. Biden should support that one. Instead of supporting bills that are sure losers to placate the left of the party.

by Anonymousreply 43January 15, 2022 4:31 PM

When people crossed Bill Clinton there were surprise affair or financial malfeasance revelations — he dispatched three speakers this way. His never stuck, but he made sure theirs did. Biden needs to stop all this healing crap and inflict fear and pain, it’s the only language these people understand. If they aren’t being audited or indicted, he’s not doing his job. And Schumer has to go; binder-throwing comb bitch can enforce with more muscle.

by Anonymousreply 44January 15, 2022 4:34 PM

Sinema is a lying fake bisexual who used the gay community to get herself elected, so the gay community needs to dig up enough dirt to bury her to her lying neck.

by Anonymousreply 45January 15, 2022 4:45 PM

They're racist fucks.

by Anonymousreply 46January 15, 2022 4:47 PM

Don't give those two any slack. They both voted down the minimum wage increase at the behest and hefty "donations" from the US Chamber of Commerce. (Sinema walked past the turtle and gave him an affectionate little back pat on her way to vote). She was so "adorable" when she gave her little curtsy with her thumb down-wearing her latest fashion purchase from Forever 21 Outlet. They are actively tanking Biden's agenda-and the US citizens.m. Sure they passed infrastructure-which will benefit many corporations. And, to a certain extent, states.

She and Manchin never had any intention to pass BBB or voting rights-they are owned byMoscow Mitch and Charles Koch and K Street-and they already got paid to sabotage their constituents and the President. They can't turn back nor do they want too. I don't believe either one intend to run again-at least not as Democrats. And yes R45 you nailed it-she lies about everything . Somehow I find her even dirtier and uglier than Joe Manchin. He at least talks to the press and tries to feign interest in democracy.

by Anonymousreply 47January 15, 2022 4:50 PM

Erm R43? The voting rights bill they're trying to pass is the one WRITTEN by Manchin.

by Anonymousreply 48January 15, 2022 5:09 PM

The Left of course means pretty much every House and Senate Democrat, and the vast majority of the Democratic Party. The mainstream is a couple of assholes in the Senate.

by Anonymousreply 49January 15, 2022 5:16 PM

If Manchin snd Sinema died n a plane crash tomorrow the Senate would go to 52 Republican to 48 Dems.. Then see what Biden could accomplish.

by Anonymousreply 50January 15, 2022 5:22 PM

Sinema is a thoroughgoing cunt.

by Anonymousreply 51January 15, 2022 5:24 PM

None of which obligates them to be crazy ridiculous cunts today r50. Pass bills that would help their constituents and not just their fucking donors or their stupid fucking ego driven fantasies. What a goddamn concept!

by Anonymousreply 52January 15, 2022 5:26 PM

[quote] nor do they want too.

by Anonymousreply 59January 15, 2022 6:05 PM

So what's the plan now? That Sinema and Manchin are deliberately sabotaging democrats shouldn't surprise anybody anymore. They always said they don't want to kill the filibuster. Dirty money is lining both of their pockets and they have no decent fibre left in their body. They put their greed over the survival of democracy.

Why then were the democrats optimistic that the voting rights act would pass??

What's the next step for democrats, what's the game plan now??

by Anonymousreply 60January 15, 2022 6:12 PM

Lot of executive orders, R60.

by Anonymousreply 61January 15, 2022 6:16 PM

And Sinema is LGBT. It makes me so ashamed that she is one of us.

by Anonymousreply 62January 15, 2022 6:16 PM

No self respecting lesbian should ever go near this pussy.

by Anonymousreply 63January 15, 2022 6:22 PM

Sunny Hostin on The View has been trashing Biden all week long, placing the blame at his feet for Voting Rights being stalled. She criticized Biden and Harris going to Georgia and said it was just "Perfomative" and there was no reason why they had to be there.

She also thinks Biden should take notes from "The Squad" on how to get things done. (I kid you not)

by Anonymousreply 64January 15, 2022 6:25 PM

Can Joe Biden put through the Voting Rights act as an executive order?

by Anonymousreply 66January 15, 2022 6:28 PM

A lot of black people didn’t want Biden in GA re:voting rights because they feel it’s “cultural appropriation” of Stacey Abrams’ project. That’s why Stacy refused to be there, Biden was stealing her thunder.

And she’s pissed she didn’t get VP spot, especially after the shit Kamala pulled in debates.

by Anonymousreply 67January 15, 2022 6:31 PM

Joe Biden praised Stacey Abrams, saying she will be president one day. If the KHive nutters hadn't been so aggressive pushing incompetent Kamala for VP, it would be Stacey, Val or Amy Klobuchar now.

by Anonymousreply 68January 15, 2022 6:40 PM

[quote]A lot of black people didn’t want Biden in GA

Not true. Only four organizations out of dozens didn't show up.

It was LaTosha Brown who made a huge stink over Biden going there, and then went on Joy Reid's show to bitch about all of it the day of the ceremony.

Brown, Reid and Hostin are good friends, BTW. And all have been apparently been using the same talking points in their appearances this week, throwing Biden and Harris under the bus, and propping up the Squad. Black Twitter is not happy.

Abrahams didn't go, but a sent a message the following day saying Biden had her full support. She's not stupid.

How do you ask the President of the United States to take notes from Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, who hasn't accomplished a single victory so far? Laughable.

by Anonymousreply 69January 15, 2022 6:43 PM

[quote] There are so many who cannot afford to buy a photo ID. Now because of this they will not get the assistance they need.

by Anonymousreply 70January 15, 2022 7:25 PM

That's bullshit, R67.

by Anonymousreply 71January 15, 2022 7:29 PM

R68 and R69

I want everyone in this thread to look at these 2 referenced posts and realize they are both trolls. One is trying to demoralize turnout by attacking Harris and the other is trying to inflame intraparty tensions by attacking AOC. Notice how neither of these trolls focus on the 2 Senate cunts but rather try to attack two people who are in favor of changing the filibuster to actually achieve something. Classic misdirection trolling. Cut the crap, both of you.

by Anonymousreply 74January 15, 2022 8:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 75January 15, 2022 8:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 77January 15, 2022 8:23 PM

So shameful that we live in the richest country on the planet and yet millions here cannot afford a simple photo ID.

by Anonymousreply 78January 15, 2022 8:33 PM

R74: Yes you are. Your R60 comment attacks the Democrats for having no plan when it was the Dyke who went up there to classless-ly undercut Biden and Schumer. h/t R42 for that correct analysis.

Then you start attacking Kamala Harris for no goddamn reason. And you do so using talking points from the right wing i.e. incompetent, bad at politics, blah blah fucking blah. All blatantly untrue.

If you don't like being called out, then don't come up in here and post bullshit. Simple as that, babe.

by Anonymousreply 79January 15, 2022 8:38 PM

How can you function in this country without a photo ID card? How do you get a job, or cash government checks, or rent an apartment, or frankly do anything? This is such a bullshit ploy to make the blatantly obvious requirement of proving you are a U.S. Citizen to vote in a U.S. election sound racist, classist, and cruel. Call it what it really is, a desperate gambit to have a couple million illegals vote for Tammany Ha-- I mean Biden and the Dems.

by Anonymousreply 80January 15, 2022 8:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 81January 15, 2022 8:52 PM

I had R72 already blocked, so I didn't see the stupidity in full glory.

My post defending Biden and calling out the foolishness of those who say to listen to a newbie over a seasoned politician is "trolling"?

I want R72 to provide a list of the bills that AOC and "The Squad" for that matter has created, worked on and gotten passed. Since I'm clearly trolling, this should be easy to do.

I'll wait.....

by Anonymousreply 82January 15, 2022 8:55 PM

One of the reasons I voted for Biden is because he claimed (a la LBJ) he knew the Senate so well he could work across the aisle and get shit done. And he can't. Why hasn't he been working with Murkowski, Romney, Toomey? And the left demonizing Manchin was counter-productive: he barely won in 2018 and is up for reelection in a state Trump won by 40 pts. FFS

Biden pushed infrastructure then BBB so all the BernieBros could please their isolated little dark blue districts. FFS

The only thing that matters is voting rights. This should have been his first priority. Nothing else is important compared to this. But Biden surrounds himself with a bunch of people from NY and LA who can't comprehend voting matters because Dems always get elected in their states. FFS

by Anonymousreply 83January 15, 2022 8:59 PM

[quote]Lot of executive orders, [R60].

by Anonymousreply 85January 15, 2022 9:00 PM

Has this been asked and answered yet?

If it is dead, at least bring it up for a vote in the Senate and put EVERYONE on record. Why not?

by Anonymousreply 86January 15, 2022 9:03 PM

From the U.K., reading this thread and G00gling fascinated, but not fully understanding. Could some kind soul summarise for an outsider?

by Anonymousreply 87January 15, 2022 9:04 PM

R87 in the follow-up to Sore Loser Trump's inability to admit he lost, all his minions throughout state legislatures (in 19 states) enacted voter suppression laws. Notably, laws to make it possible for the state legislature to overturn election results which don't favor the Republican. They're also trying to prevent minorities and college kids from voting because they don't vote Republican. There are laws allowing 'partisan pollwatchers' to harass people inside polling stations - no doubt while toting AK-47s.

by Anonymousreply 88January 15, 2022 9:09 PM

Waiting for that list from R72.......

by Anonymousreply 89January 15, 2022 9:12 PM

There no list R89, #AlwaysOnCamera is one of the least effective house members.

by Anonymousreply 90January 15, 2022 9:22 PM

Yesterday on MSNBC they had a black woman pundit I didn't recognize, but obviously connected to The Squad. She was saying as voting rights is dead in the water, Biden needs to cancel student debt now to get a win from the base. The base? What about people who have already paid off their debts? What about people who will go to college in the future and have to incur debts? What about all those prolos the BernieBros claim to represent who could never afford to go to college in the first fucking place? I swear these idiots spend all their time attacking Democrats and never Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 91January 15, 2022 9:27 PM

R87: In the US, voting is dependent on which state you are in, and often which county. Like the layout of your ballot, how one gets on the ballot, it differs in all 50 states and the territories. There is no national standard for voting over here. We are the only developed democracy that doesn't have a national voting standard. This bill would finally fix that. But in order for the Senate to vote on the bill, they have to agree to end debate. You need 60 votes in the Senate to invoke cloture, which limits further debate to 30 hours and then a vote on the actual bill. There are not 60 votes to end debate and do that.

So, we need to change the rules to at the least eliminate that 60 vote threshold for this important legislation. We need 50 votes to do that but the bisexual Senator from Arizona went on the floor of the Senate to say she won't support doing that. And neither will the dumbass Senator from West Virginia. So there we are.

Think of it this way: the county you are in in the UK decides that since you didn't vote in the last council election, you're off the voter rolls and they don't tell they removed you. You go to vote at the next Parliamentary election and they tell you you're off the rolls and you had to be on 28 days before the election. Too bad, no vote for you, go home. That's the kind of shit states are doing now over here.

by Anonymousreply 92January 15, 2022 9:34 PM

R92 in Texas the GOP (not the sharpest knives in the drawer) enacted a new law which requires people to provide both a Social Security number AND a Driver's License Number (it used to be either or) on the application to vote by mail. Now it has been legal in Texas for decades to vote by mail if you are disabled or over 65.

So far, half the mail-in applications submitted have been refused because applicants didn't put in both numbers. Now, who is it who wouldn't have a Driver's License in Texas? Elderly people who have let them lapse and disabled people who never had a DL to begin with. People over 65 are the GOP's base in Texas. And as disabled people won't be able to vote because they don't have a DL, I guess Greg Abbott won't be able to vote for himself.

by Anonymousreply 93January 15, 2022 10:13 PM

R64. Sunny Hostin should be blaming Obama and Oprah who were called in to sweet talk /twist the arm of Manchin to get rid of fillibuster for voting rights-like he and Sinema did for debt ceiling. If the dynamic duo/tag team of Oprah and Obama couldn't close the deal-why not call in George Soros? Sinema is a lying liar who lies. She has always made sure to claim she is bisexual-not lesbian lately. She may as well be asexual 'cuz no self respecting dick or pussy either would go near that stinking' cunt.

by Anonymousreply 94January 15, 2022 10:44 PM

[QUOTE] Now, who is it who wouldn't have a Driver's License in Texas? Elderly people who have let them lapse and disabled people who never had a DL to begin with.

Uh, hellllooo R93 you can get non-driver's photo ID at the DMV easily.

by Anonymousreply 95January 15, 2022 11:03 PM

Biden is so impotent. LBJ would twist arms, legs, and other body parts to get landmark legislation passed.

by Anonymousreply 96January 15, 2022 11:14 PM

Really r80? Even though every gun nut, every racist, every whore for the rich, in other words every Republican legislator in the country, would love nothing more than to find millions of illegal immigrant votes, nobody can find them. Maybe you just need to look harder, or maybe you need to stop being such ridiculous stupid twats and let people vote even if they're not guaranteed to be Trump Cult votes.

by Anonymousreply 97January 16, 2022 12:15 AM

Also too, everybody, while it's nice to imagine a magical LBJ sweeping in to make it all come true, LBJ had a Senate with 66 Democrats and 34 Republicans and a House that was also overwhelmingly Democratic when he took over. It makes a difference having a tie, with a couple of asshole flakes on the Democratic side.

Biden is in a tough situation with a 50/50 Senate. The blue wave never appeared in 2020,so,Dems,barely control the House and Senate. Blame the genius progressives who thought defund the police was a great slogan! That’ll be back in 2022 and should be a real winner with murders going through the roof in mist big urban centers.

by Anonymousreply 100January 16, 2022 12:33 AM

Oh blame a million things r99, including gerrymandering, but also the fact that the Senate is designed to give outsized power to rural, empty, but overwhelmingly white states. Defund the Police is a stupid damn slogan, but it really is a small part of a much larger, much more structural problem.

by Anonymousreply 101January 16, 2022 12:37 AM

R98 Young folks, back in the day the Democrats included a shitload of racist Southern Democrats. They only became Republicans after LBJ passed Civil Rights and Voting Rights. Nixon welcomed them into his Big Tent using his Southern Strategy.

LBJ's Democratic majority was made up of a lot of racist Southern Democrats who voted against the Civil Rights Bill. So he had to recruit Everett Dirksen and a shitload of GOP to pass it.

In the Senate, 46 Democrats voted for and 21 against; 27 Republicans voted for, and only 6 voted against the bill. That makes 69% of the Dems and 82% of the Republican senators voted to pass the law.

by Anonymousreply 102January 16, 2022 1:19 AM

R95 is that you notorious closet case Bryan Hughes? Hang around the DL a lot, do ya? First of all, who is going to drive those little old ladies, those people with cerebral palsy to the DMV and sit there with them for 6 hours while they try to get an ID.

So sad that neither the GOP's base - old folks - or Greg Abbott will be able to vote. Oh, well.

by Anonymousreply 107January 16, 2022 1:53 AM

Thanks R102. Important history lesson.

by Anonymousreply 108January 16, 2022 1:55 AM

No we can't r107. No amount of demonizing the very few progressives in Congress makes up for the fact that the main problem is white panic. White people are still a majority of the country and a lot of us are going into an absolutely embarrassing and shrieking panic about the fact that black and brown people might outnumber us soon. That is what is making so many white people cling to even the most obvious frauds and crazies, as long as they are White, in congress.

by Anonymousreply 109January 16, 2022 1:55 AM

Kyrsten Sinema has a huge dirty hairy smelly pussy with big cuntflaps.

by Anonymousreply 110January 16, 2022 1:59 AM

Also agree with r108 about r102. I think LBJ benefited enormously from the Democratic majority when it came to his Great Society programs, but everything Civil Rights was a much more difficult balancing act requiring political genius.

Also too, where in the goddamn hell is Robert Caro's final volume on LBJ???

by Anonymousreply 111January 16, 2022 2:01 AM

Should clarify: When I say a lot of us at r109, I don't mean I agree. I mean this is the ugly white truth right now.

She is an enema of sin. He is neither a man nor chinned.

by Anonymousreply 116January 16, 2022 2:21 AM

Lots of false info here. First, Manchin's family has been big in democratic circles for generations in West Virginia. He is a dem.

Second, Stacey Abrams is not going to tell Black women to stay home. If Trumpers took over the country, and that is highly likely if dems lose the House and Senate, the Black women will suffer most. Trump or his replacement will go back to dismantling the country, giving all the assets to the super rich. The bills passed on the Biden agenda, if they see the light of day, will go to funding grifters for phony projects. SCOTUS will have free reign to turn back the laws. And MAGAS will roam the country taking whatever they want, with impunity. Bad cops will continue to kill minorities and get away with it. So Stacey will not be telling Black women to stay home and not vote.

Show me anything about Sinema eyeing the WH. She comes off like a bimbo and, frankly, if she's been bought, she's very unsubtle about it. She has no good arguments for opposing filibuster reform and she understands clearly what current filibuster rules will do in terms of voting rights. It's like someone paid her to make that speech on the Senate floor this week, upstaging Biden. She has no chance to get anywhere in a presidential primary for either party. Oh, and which of those LGBT letters is she? I'd go for G--grifter.

Finally, no one mentions that worthless POS Schumer. Mitch McConnell has a caucus with crazies Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, plus a few other far out types. He has managed to do better in the minority than Schumer has with the majority. And he's pretty much kept the stench off himself, relatively speaking. I think if Amy Klobuchar were Majority Leader, both Manchin and Sinema would have been rounded up and managed by now. If dems lose the Senate I will blame Schumer. He insisted on being majority leader in a time of crisis, even though he doesn't have the persuasive power, the courage, or, frankly, the brains. Biden has his own branch of government to manage. With his party in the majority in the Senate, he should not have to worry about it as he cleans up Trump's mess and tries to navigate a worldwide pandemic, other international situations and keep federal agencies moving forward. Schumer needs to do the right thing, and, if he won't, the majority needs to take that leadership position away from him.

by Anonymousreply 117January 16, 2022 2:24 AM

I am not going to pretend Schumer is some great leader, but I will say McConnell has the much more easy job. The Republican Party is a combination of Trump Cult and Whores for the Rich. Rich Donors can order most Republican Senators to do whatever they want, no matter what they pretend to stand for, and honestly they don't stand for much other than being whores for the rich, so there is that. So in the end, they kind of are on the same page all the time, despite any pretense about libertarians versus evangelicals or any of that shit. And then there's Trump. They all know that in the end they answer to the Cult. They can squirm and scrounge and play make believe, but in the end, the Trumpista base keeps them all in line and facing in the same direction.

Schumer is dealing with a tougher situation. Most Democrats are interested in expanding government, doing something about climate change, but a couple of cuntish flakes named Manchin and Sinema are more interested in being noticed, being seen, playing some fucking game of their own, and there is not solid devotion to the rich or some cult to keep them in line when they go off on their crazy tangents.

[quote] aka Dumb Person - people over 65 and people with disabilities have been able to vote by mail in Texas for the past 20 years with no issue. Up until Sore Loser Donnie Trump couldn't admit he was a big, fat loser.

Well, since I'm a dumb person, explain to me why they need a photo ID if they're voting by mail? If your point is that mail-in voting is going to be eliminated (and again, that sounds like typical Far Left hysteria), then they'll still need help getting to the polls just as they would to get the ID in the first place. I know I'm just a dumb person, but you sound a little unhinged. Well, more than a little actually.

by Anonymousreply 119January 16, 2022 2:34 AM

R119 aka Dumb Person they now need to have a photo ID to vote by mail - something Texans over 65 and with disabilities have been doing for 20 years without a photo ID because an idiot in the Texas Legislature decided it would impress Donnie Trump.

by Anonymousreply 120January 16, 2022 2:39 AM

Dear Unhinged Person -

So then you're saying they now need a photo ID in order to get the application (now in person, presumably) to then vote by mail from home?

BTW, why would this be a Republican strategy? The elderly mostly vote Republican. Why would the Right wing wouldn't want to disenfranchise one of their voting blocks

Not really. It says more about the intelligence level of the people in those counties who can't even fill out a form properly.

by Anonymousreply 139January 16, 2022 10:59 PM

The form actually says you can either give you SS number OR your DL number. And then in the fine print on the back, it says both must be given.

The person who invented the voter suppression bill is chubby pint-sized Cowboy Curtis wannabe Briscoe Cain who famously went through gay conversion therapy, threatened to shoot Beto O'Rourke and who memorably attacked a bill in the Texas House to provide funding for palliative care in hospices because, according to him, palliative care = Sarah Palin's death panels. He was fully humiliated when a GOP House member who was also a physician had to give him the definition of palliative care.

by Anonymousreply 140January 16, 2022 11:21 PM

Kyrsten Sinema is a highly paid circus animal, doing tricks and stunts that her corporate and private far-right donors pay her to do.

Sinema and Manchin are no mystery when you understand that, in their hearts, they have come to embrace the white supremacist's ideology. This has become abundantly clear given their current alliances in Congress and elsewhere. This ideology has become the overriding "to-the-death" goal of today's Republican party. Trump is viewed as the GOP's most efficient conduit to achieve this goal, but white supremacists (this term includes teachers, doctors, actors, police officers, politicians, grocery clerks, grandmothers, etc) have figured out the means of getting it done without Trump if/when it becomes necessary. The ideology is, of course, built on fear: fear of the groups of people that "whites" have marginalized and oppressed for centuries, fear of retaliation, fear of vengeance, fear of reprisal. Ridiculously unfounded fears. There is no national movement of a single minority group to hasten this change of balance, which has been developing naturally since the country's formation. What is certain, however, is that these attempts to destabilize our government will, in the end, have catastrophic consequences for all levels of society. I also believe that it's too late to stop this chain of events. The movement has grown far beyond the control of its architects.

Getting back to the focused topic, even more sinister is the list of companies and wealthy donors throwing money at Sinema (linked below), the same ones likely funding Manchin as well. This demonstrates that the push for the destabilization of our current form of government goes deeper than the superficial list of GOP political actors. Dark corporate money is funding this gargantuan effort. It is the Final Push. Whether this country resurfaces after 2024 as an autocracy, an oligarchy, or as a series of disbanded and disputed states is all that remains to be seen.

Sinema’s donors: Groupon, GAP, Carvana, Blackstone, SC Johnson, DirectTV, Slimfast, Intuit, Crypto Kings, Sheryl Sandberg, Snowflake Inc, Hyatt, Cleveland Browns, Apple, Disney, & more

by Anonymousreply 148January 17, 2022 11:21 AM

R148 Arizona barely turned blue and could revert in the next election which is also why Sinema's playing this game. As for Manchin, Trump won West Virginia by 40 pts in 2020 so it's an absolute miracle there is even a blue dog Dem as a Senator. You can't expect too much. He's also fighting for his survival.

by Anonymousreply 149January 17, 2022 5:18 PM

While it is frustrating to deal with problems in your own party just imagine the Senate with Mitch as the Majority Leader. Manchin being a Dem even in name only is a miracle. Biden should have sat down a year ago and figured out what Manchin and Sinema would vote for. Strip bloated BBB into digestible pieces that would be popular like Child Tax Credit and pass that. Instead they have a bloated whale no can adequately explain and it still won't pass. And all the partisans just seethe with hatred against two Dem Senators and just make Republicans stronger.

by Anonymousreply 150January 17, 2022 5:29 PM

R150 and Biden should have tried to get Romney, Toomey, Murkowski on board. He's been spending too much time listening to the progressive caucus which only represents isolated, dark-blue districts and isn't representative of the rest of the country.

It is well known in Washington that Sinema especially and Joe Manchin have been recruited by Mitch to make him the REAL Majority leader. Two Democratic Senators are doing everything in their power to obstruct and kill the Biden Presidency. They are being well paid .That is ALL.

by Anonymousreply 156January 17, 2022 10:33 PM

R163. Good try Bozo. The only 2 holdouts on this issue remain these 2 scum sucking bottom feeders. Mitch McConnell sure knew which 2 senators to target who completely lack integrity and are just willing to do or say anything for a quarter, nickel or dime. "Kyrsten Sinema is like the filibuster-an anti-democratic tool". Stephan Colbert. Ditto Joe Manchin. Thankfully the gloves are continuing to come off. Sen. Barbara Lee- paraphrasing "Sinema and Manchin aren't siding with the filibuster-they are siding with Donald Trump and the Republicans" Tim Kaine-"Joe Manchin is a friend and like his other "friends " in the Senate none of us understand what he is talking about defending the filibuster and not voting rights". Not to mention Clyburn, Warnock ,Teste,r Maggie Hassan etc.

Somebody needs to tell Sinema McConnell will have no use for her. Ditto Joe Manchin. If they turn on their own party and constituents they are untrustworthy. They will be pariahs in Democrats and Republican circles.

People need to come to terms with the reality that the 1% have already made a determination to transition our government into an outright, autocratic fascist regime. The narrative is being laid down in their corporate controlled media in order to smooth the way for it. Biden can try to deny it otherwise, but this is the plan. Unless the public has a mass awakening to this reality and resists it by any means necessary, then the US will turn into the fourth reich, not necessarily with Trump helming the fascist ship.

by Anonymousreply 189January 20, 2022 4:07 AM

Crossing the aisle is not uncommon in parliamentary systems. The Democrats failed to win sufficient seats in the Senate. Sinema and Manchin should NOT be the end of everything. The Electoral College in the US is INSANE. Midterms are stupid constructs. Give the chose party a chance to govern. The US loves to be in continual election cycles. You're far too attached to "winners" and "losers."

You have no representation by population, which is the basic law of democracy. AND you vote for local representation SEPARATELY from your president - which is insane. Choose a side and a party. American politics rely far too much on personality. There are five better people who could have been the Democratic President. But Americans are petty and afraid about women and progressives.

Democrat Presidents proved to be weak leaders in the last 30 years. Even and especially Obama. The United States would not be where it is if Obama had done a few things differently. About the Supreme Court and most importantly about what he allowed before the election in 2016. He made no comment on Russian interference and allowed the lie of the Comey report to go unanswered. He was jokey about Trump - when the world was in real danger. Fascism does await your country. You're already in a virtual civil war. The art of the possible is dead. Only progressives or violent uprising can save your now.

R8 Stacey Abrams is a great Democratic leader, she has certainly shown the party that she wants to make a difference in her home state and she has and will continue to do!

However what we need now is a similar manifestation in the Midwest, the Mid Atlantic, and specially the rest of the deep South. We need more leaders like Ms. Abrams to come forward and deep down we have them in our capacity.

The Left is losing Worldwide, unfortunately so is humankind along the way, there is so little we know about the universe yet alone our planet, yet we continue fighting about irrelevant shit slung our way by a totally fuck up right wing party who has chosen to actively fight reality in almost every way possible ever since they lost the Nixon presidency half a century ago.

by Anonymousreply 196January 20, 2022 4:53 AM

Stacy Abrams IS a great democratic leader. Whose career will never result in leadership. Wrong time and place for Stacy. She won't win as Governor. Again. Who is going to stump for her that is not currently hated? Biden, Harris, Obama and Hillary are poison names. Stacy will never get near the presidency. She's constitutionally qualified to deal with it all. It's not a nice guy competition. No black woman will be president in the next 20 years. Not even Michelle or Oprah could be elected NOW in the United States of fascist racial divide.

The Democrats and Dataloungers were monumentally STUPID to be so hard on Amy OR Warren. Your Party is over.

by Anonymousreply 202January 20, 2022 9:16 AM

Please ease up on this fascism stuff. There are election laws that make it harder to vote. But it becomes harder for everyone to vote. If Dems won’t show up that’s on them. There are election laws that involve counting the votes. Those are dangerous and laws should be passed to make sure they are not unconstitutional. I think the Dems could even find some Republican votes to pass laws or that should at least try. Maybe not but it’s worth the effort.

Voting rights are not going to bring millions of people out to vote in 2022. Maybe the issue should be that important but it isn’t. Democrats must focus on things people actually care about. Once it was clear this would fail, I don’t understand the need to have another vote. Hopefully like BBB Dems will break the big bills down into pieces people can understand and get behind.

by Anonymousreply 203January 20, 2022 10:00 AM

[quote]There are election laws that involve counting the votes. Those are dangerous and laws should be passed to make sure they are not unconstitutional. I think the Dems could even find some Republican votes to pass laws or that should at least try.

I agree. The problem though is that Democrats want to load up any bill with everything including the kitchen sink. We saw that with the reconciliation bill. They need to focus on one piece at a time. The voting bill could have been split into 10 or 20 smaller bills, and some would fail and some might have succeeded.

by Anonymousreply 204January 20, 2022 10:06 AM

These threads are such a mess. Lots of trolling and disordered thinking and extreme, unwarranted violent thoughts, and hours upon hours of people working really hard to make you feel like you should give up, stop caring, unless of course you want to start a new civil war, THAT they think you should care about.

I think the people who claim to be Democrats who want to literally murder Manchin and Sinema are trolls wanting to make liberals look bad. They're probably the same people who say they want Nancy Pelosi dead, they just do it with different accounts.

Given how easy it is to fool the average DLer with trolling, and how so many DLers can't understand even basic, clearly written posts, I do get concerned that there are some here who will be affected by threads like these. But since there's only, what, maybe 100 real people here total, I can't imagine turning a couple of DLers into non-voters or rightwingers will actually accomplish anything.

Lotta energy being expended here for zero payoff.

by Anonymousreply 205January 20, 2022 10:10 AM

Her LOUD "AYE" voting against the filibuster rule change is typical of her performative bullshit. Remember her curtsy flourish when voting against Dem legislation not that long ago.

Also let's not forget how she said she was bisexual before she ran for Senate, and then suddenly has forgotten that she ever said that. She's an opportunist.

I can't wait for her hopes to be dashed.

by Anonymousreply 222January 20, 2022 7:08 PM

I think some of you are more turned on by the branding and the fight than the actual bill.

Part of the reason Sinema and Manchin are comfortable with being no votes on this is they know it’s just red meat. If Democrats actually spelled out what “voter suppression” measures are being passed, instead of making vague allusions to Jim Crow and poll taxes and trundling out every black politico they can find to be triggered by such rhetoric, there may be a bit more cohesion.

But you’re never going to make “show a valid state ID” sound like an evil scheme, not even to Black people. I’m fact, a black friend of mine — a Democrat btw — told me they think this whole issue is really about passing relaxed voter ID laws so more undocumented immigrants can vote. Unofficially. He said Black people are the most documented, carded, stopped and frisked people in the country. They’re not afraid to show an ID to vote. That’s one of the few times it actually makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 223January 20, 2022 7:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 227January 20, 2022 8:28 PM

If you don’t live in West Virginia or Arizona, Manchin and Sinema don’t give a damn about your opinion. They don’t even listen to their own constituents, who favor the voting rights bill.

I’m not surprised by Manchin, though I am angry. He’s always been a despicable bastard. As for Sinema, she’s beneath contempt. The only powerful word that describes her is CUNT.

by Anonymousreply 228January 20, 2022 11:47 PM

Thanks, R123. I don't think much of her prospects, but I feel sorry for the people who helped her win election. They were ripped off. And she's delusional. The overlords may think they can control her, but people don't trust women holding power. Chuck Schumer has done a lousy job, but no one ever talks about replacing him. Pelosi is a powerhouse and there are always people at transition periods talking about replacing her as Speaker.

Did Stacey Abrams say where she went when Biden was in GA? Because if someone’s gig is fighting voter suppression in the state of GA, you think they’d cancel whatever they had scheduled that day, go stand with the president of their party and their country and reschedule their previous commitment. Not being with the president when he comes to your state to make a speech about your pet cause is a red flag.

by Anonymousreply 236January 21, 2022 1:23 PM

Stacey had an appointment to get her hair and nails done.

by Anonymousreply 237January 22, 2022 12:36 AM

I don't agree with Manchin's antics and his manipulation of the process; but can understand why, in his mind, the choice he pursued was prudent. He's very stubborn and didn't want to displease his special interests' backers.

Sinema wanted to be courted, loves to play head games, thinks she is smart and pretty, and is beholden to big pharma and supports the big tax cuts for the rich. Arizona Dems need to primary her in 2024 and get her dumped.

by Anonymousreply 238January 22, 2022 12:54 AM

Stacey knows an old white political albatross when she hears it drone on and on. And she didn't want any young black girls mishandled by Biden. Again.

You’re an idiot. Every black person in the South especially knows it’s an issue. Have you been paying attention during elections? Because it’s right there in your face. Just like all conservatives you want to deflect from the truth.

by Anonymousreply 264February 11, 2022 1:43 PM

Here’s how conservatives have been suppressing black voters:

-Less polling places/closing polling places in black districts. Making it harder for poorer black people especially to travel further away. Not only that, but switching black voters’ designated polling places last minute. Long lines.

-Worse voting machines in black districts.

-Making it harder for black (and poor) people to get IDs. Bullshit DMV shenanigans and less DMV access for black people in these districts.

-Closing early voting - and especially Sunday voting - knowing black people came up in formation on these days.

The list goes on.

Boy has this forum changed. A few years ago everyone was discussing the bullshit taken against black people. Now these conservatives want to gaslight, obscure the truth and distract from reality.

Republicans have already admitted this is what they do. To deny it is fucked up and on the level of QAnon.

by Anonymousreply 265February 11, 2022 1:58 PM

[quote] I’m fact, a black friend of mine — a Democrat btw — told me they think this whole issue is really about passing relaxed voter ID laws so more undocumented immigrants can vote.

I'm sure your Black friend, Richard Spencer's Black friend, and all Donald Trump's Black friends go to the same chicken and waffle joint, right? Have they ever asked you to join them?

by Anonymousreply 266February 11, 2022 2:01 PM

R264 That’s not an explanation of anything. Just insulting me and saying everybody knows the deal isn’t an argument.

R265 Let’s assume what you said wasn’t just propaganda and actually has some merit. Why not address those particular areas and those particular machines and those particular DMVs and the people in charge who could rectify these blatant inequalities? Why do we need federal legislation to address such granular issues?

And I notice liberals who just go along with whatever MSNBC says like to do this, but correlation isn’t causation. No, not even when it comes to race. Because the reality is if it’s difficult to vote in certain areas, it’s difficult for that area period. There are plenty of poor white areas and poor Hispanic areas as well. So why zero in on poor Black areas specifically?

I know why. It’s propaganda meant to justify a power grab. You’re making the most tenuous correlation possible to get buy in so nobody has to look like a racist. Because saying these issues, to whatever extent they exist, disproportionately affect black people is like saying high taxes are racist because they disproportionately affect white people. Which is of course stupid.

The only reason Democrats care about black people being disproportionately affected by anything is because that’s their bread and butter come election season. And if this is such a huge problem, well, it didn’t hurt Biden, did it?

R266 I guess that was supposed to be funny. But he made a lot of sense. Nobody’s denying the history of black people being disenfranchised in this country but spare me the exaggerated claims of voter suppression. At best these are small-fry issues that should be addressed locally or at the state level.

by Anonymousreply 267February 11, 2022 2:46 PM

I’m so tired of your drivel. Nothing I posted is “propaganda”. Everything I posted is what has actually been happening. It IS voter suppression and it’s wrong.

The real propaganda is you attacking mail-in voting and early voting like a loyal Republican lapdog. Everything you’re arguing for is to help Republicans. You aren’t fooling anyone.

by Anonymousreply 268February 11, 2022 3:07 PM

Just the fact that republicans are so hell bent on making these changes-changes they say are meant to prevent voter fraud that simply doesn't exist-should tell you everything you want to know. They know their tactics keep way more democrats from voting, so they fabricate the voter fraud issue so they can put up these obstacles in those areas. It has been proposed that there be a maximum wait time at voter sites. For example, if polling place A is a three hour wait and polling place B is 15 min wait, voting machines are moved from B to A to even out wait time. Republicans are against this. They WANT long waits at certain polling places, and they'll fight tooth and nail to keep it that way. And guess which polling place is more democratic areasf?

by Anonymousreply 269February 11, 2022 3:08 PM

[quote] Why not address those particular areas and those particular machines and those particular DMVs and the people in charge who could rectify these blatant inequalities? Why do we need federal legislation to address such granular issues?

Yes why have any federal laws. Why have a federal government. Red states should be able to make their own laws and discriminate against whomever they choose. Every state should be its own little nation. Problem solved.

[quote] Here’s how conservatives have been suppressing black voters:

Republicans are targeting Democratic voters. Which includes black voters. However, measures such as signature matching, cutting mail in voting, early voting, same day registration make it more difficult for everyone. Framing the issue as merely a "black issue" is wrongheaded.

by Anonymousreply 270February 11, 2022 3:11 PM

I mention that because they are ESPECIALLY targeting black voters and major black counties. It’s not even up for debate.

by Anonymousreply 271February 11, 2022 3:15 PM

Eldergay in Texas here. People over 65 in Texas have been able to vote by mail for a couple of decades.

Now, the extreme rightwing Texas GOP enacted a whole slew of voter suppression tactics. One of the groups most targeted are people who vote by mail. They made numerous changes in the rules governing voting by mail to make it much more complicated: new, poorly indicated changes from the old ballots by mail, you have to add in the number (either driver's license or SS number) you originally registered to vote with. Who is unlikely to notice the various, fiddly changes they've made to the mail-in ballots? Old people. Who is unlikely to remember what ID you originally used to register to vote? Old people.

Who is the GOP's base in Texas? People over 65.

by Anonymousreply 272February 11, 2022 4:51 PM

Don't forget voter roll purges. If you don't vote in 2 elections in a row, they cancel your registration and don't tell you. Then you go to vote and find out you're not registered and that the deadline was 28 days ago. They know damn well only bored old white people vote in odd-year elections in the spring for park boards, jock strap inspector and bathhouse superintendent. It's all bad, but this tactic is the worst of all in my book.

And to every troll pretending this isn't happening, may your every condom break, may every dick you suck be rancid, and may you take a diuretic and not be able to get your panties off.

by Anonymousreply 273February 11, 2022 5:35 PM

R268 I said it's propaganda because there's no proof that Republicans are simply picking out "black areas" or "black districts" and implementing all of these totally unjustified, unnecessary draconian policies to keep them from voting. It's propaganda because you're parroting the DNC party line: let's forward our agenda by calling Republicans racists. It's the same with any law or regulation; it has to be followed by everyone. If you can demonstrate that the law in its execution is only being applied to Black people, that's one thing. Saying a law or policy affects Black people more than it does others is bullshit. That's like saying speeding laws affect people who like to speed more than people who don't. That's such a basest, unintellectual way to process any law, but it works for low information voters like yourself, which is why Democrats continue to use that tactic.

R270 I don't care about your snide remark. That doesn't answer the question. Elections are manifestly run by local and state governments anyway. Yes it may be a federal issue if a law violates someone's civil rights, but trying to sell a power grab by saying "it's about protecting Black people's right to vote" is bogus. As long as the law is applied equally, there's no significant reason the federal government would need to get involved. You can have a conversation about why a law or policy shouldn't exist, but that's why it shouldn't apply to anybody, not just singling out one group of people who just so happen to vote en masse for Democrats.

R272 Mail-in voting and absentee ballots are not the same thing as far as voting laws are concerned. It's not voter suppression because we're limiting the number of votes being sent in by mail.

by Anonymousreply 274February 12, 2022 8:13 PM

The goal of our democracy should be to get more eligible voters to vote. But that's not what's happening. If the rules are applied across the board and apply to everyone, fine. But they're not. Republican do target Democratic areas and make it harder for them to vote. They also make it harder for poor people to vote. Not everyone has a car, and Republicans manipulate rules that increase driving distances in Democratic areas. This isn't a "Black" issue. Republicans lose when there's high voter turnout. They know this so they manipulate rules to get a lower voter turnout.

In my state, majority democratic counties had up to three hours standing in line to vote. Republican-oriented precincts, the lines were shorter with more voting machines. The Republican dominated counties, voting was proficient. In heavily black rural areas, voting access site were spread-out, requiring significant driving, and showed as few as two or three sites for a whole county. Mail-in options should not be overly complicated, bureaucratic, and too limiting.

In Texas, the GOP has closed down 750 polling stations. If you live in rural, white, rightwing Texas you've got your polling station! If you live in Democratic cities, good luck finding your polling station. In 2018 when college students started atypically storming the polling stations to vote for Beto, the GOP Secy of State suddenly closed down polling stations at colleges. College students notoriously don't bother to vote in mid-terms so they caught the GOP unaware.
