She was NASTY in her stand up act. So was her friend and mentor, Red Foxx

She was filthy as hell in her act and I adore that sort of thing. She'd be on "Sanford and Son" coked to the gills not giving a crap play acting like she was church folk with a bit of a dark side. There are truly people who haven't a clue as to what she was really into humor or drugs taking wise.
Millie Jackson is almost as filthy as LaWanda. Almost. Maybe they are tied actually I'm not sure.

I think that's why he cast her as a Bible-thumper.

I would have loved to see her and Mother Jefferson together.

Rofl, R4!
I've told this story here before, but in the early 70s, when I was 8 or 9, one late night-early AM my siblings and I were treated to the ...er, unusual stylings of Miss Millie Jackson. We lived within 7-8 blocks of the then-largest HBCU in the country, and as was common then they put on an all-day/all night music festival. Nasty Millie was the final act, and she did not disappoint. This was before we had central air/heating, and as it was a stifling night, all the windows and the screen doors were open, and we had a front-row ear, so to speak. My siblings and I were very gently reared--no swearing, no baby talk, no sex talk. We were FLOORED by the absolute pyroclastic FILTH pouring forth from that genius woman's mouth, esp during an extended version if "It Hurts So Good" (definitely NOT the later John Mellencamp version). Daaaammnn she cooked on HIGH heat that night!
One of the best memories of our childhood--even my super religious oldest sister laughs at the memory.

Like Pearl from 227 - Helen Martin. She sure had a filthy mouth.

Please note that the Sanford and Son spin-off "Grady" is now on Crackle (free app). I wonder if Lawanda appeared on that show. Currently watching episode #2.

And the spin-off "Sanford" (without Lamont) is on Tubi.

Millie Jackson is like a DL Mashup.
She used to do a song and over the vamps she would talk about The Young And The Restless. It meant nothing to me at the time because I didn't watch the show. It was only decades later did I realize Millie was talking about Brenda Dickson.
This is all I remember from that: "OK, so Jill goes through the ghetto, past all them horny [n-words] in a negligee? You know how else we know there ain't no [n-words] on The Young And The Restless writing staff? She done steals her mama's boyfriend--AND IS STILL ALIVE!"
