I’m a fan of this movie, I love the location shots same with to live and die in LA. Gere was very good looking in this and I loved the beach setting too. It was a little bit pretentious in places too though - Hutton practising her french in the restaurant as though she were the height of sophistication.
Also features the Candice Bergen’s mom in a small role as a society lady.

The acting in this movie is so laughably bad. It takes itself way too seriously also. But Richard Tiffany Gere certainly looks good in it as do his Armani suits.
Thankfully,his acting improved a lot as well or he would have been the next Ryan Phillipe.

Nina's acting career never took off in spite of her good performance in "The Long Goodbye". She was over 40 when she started making American movies, and maybe the good roles for someone her age just weren't around. There was a pretty funny Mad magazine style advertisement for "The Long Goodbye" that had Nina referring to her real-life role in the Clifford Irving scandal.
