He died of AIDS. RIP Jermaine.
Jermaine Stewart was a hysterically funny queen

I LOVED "We dont have to take our clothes off" ! I remember seeing him on some talk show at the time and he really was very witty .

I loved how he had thematic sequels to that song, each time with more hysterically prudish titles, begging his girlfriends not to be crude and vulgar. "Don't Talk Dirty To Me" "Don't Have Sex With Your Ex"

Cherry wine really killed him.

OMG, I was just thinking about starting a thread about him recently. He seemed like such a lovely, sweet, effervescent soul. I don't know why he wasn't a bigger star.

The main thing holding him back was a lack of consistently great material. His gayness would have been a problem in America, In Europe he had more success.

Sadly, 1997 was right around the time AIDS became reversible IF you were willing to arrange your entire life around a medication schedule & endless doctor visits... but AFAIK, if KS emerged and metastasized first, not even modern-day antiviral meds would have saved him. Assuming I'm understanding KS correctly, it's a cancer started by a viral infection, but once the cells form, they're "normal" cancer and spread thereafter without further viral action.

This is awful...after he died, his mother had him buried without any gravestone, or even a marker (I thought those are usually included). It wasn't until 2014 that an anonymous fan paid for a proper headstone. First, his mother is a monster. Even if it was hard to afford at the time, I seriously doubt she hasn't received royalties that could pay for proper dignity. Second, the anonymous donor was certainly a DL'er.

He was a whore! He died of AIDS.

Most of us are/were whores, [R10].

He sang backup for Shalamar. He and Jody Watley were best friends. Here's a video which unlike today, is 100% live, vocals and music!
Not an easy song to re-create live.

Imagine having so little awareness you'd post this on a gay message board.
How do you even function in day to day life R10?

Loved that clip, R12. You could already see that Jody and Howard hated each other but damn the band was tight.

If Jody and Jermain so close, how I wonder why she didn't think he deserved a headstone?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 7, 2022 10:09 PM |
R16, if I recall correctly, I got the impression that Jody and Jermaine were close at one time, but they had a falling out.

Jeffrey Daniels had a skinny little body back then.

R12 I’ve never seen Shalamar live, they were better than I imagined.

I'm sure his mother had no problem cashing his royalty cheques.

Yes the band was very tight! I can't tell if Jeffrey is singing at all (I assume no which is why Jermaine is there). But Jeffrey supposedly is singing Pop Along Kid lead.

How do we know Jody didn't pay for the gravestone?
Also, don't assume the mom got royalties. The record industry isn't wildly moral.

R14, thank you. I loved seeing that home tour clip. Jermaine had a charming way, so sweet and adorable.

The nasty poster here sounds like the one that obsesses about poop and DUIs on other threads

The follow up single to "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" was a tribute to his pal Jody Watley. Not much of a hit, unfortunately. I don't remember ever seeing the video on MTV.
