Vicki Lawrence: Betty White Last Spoke the Name of Her Husband Before Dying

[QUOTE]“Carol Burnett wrote back: ‘I spoke to Betty’s assistant and she said the very last word out of her mouth was ‘Allen.’” White was married to Ludden from 1963 until his death in 1981 at the age of 63 from stomach cancer.

Beautiful. RIP Betty.

by Anonymousreply 1January 3, 2022 10:39 PM

Heartbreaking but also heartwarming. My last word would probably be my mom.

by Anonymousreply 2January 3, 2022 10:41 PM

Good gawd, give this woman some privacy.

by Anonymousreply 3January 3, 2022 10:43 PM

How nice to know what Vicki told Page Six that Carol told her that Betty’s assistant claimed that Betty said.

by Anonymousreply 4January 3, 2022 10:43 PM

[quote]Vicki Lawrence – who worked with White on “Mama’s Family” – exclusively told Page Six that she contacted co-star and pal Carol Burnett as soon as she heard the tragic news.

[quote]“I texted Carol and said, ‘This just sucks. I hate this. It’s just horrible to see the people you love so much go away,’” Lawrence, 72, recalled.

It's nice that they were/are all still friends after all these years.

by Anonymousreply 5January 3, 2022 10:44 PM

My last words will probably be, "Oh, shit!"

by Anonymousreply 6January 3, 2022 10:59 PM

Aw sweet...remoinds me of how much Rose owuld go on about how she knew she and Charlie would reunite one day....we all know that was Betty speaking.

by Anonymousreply 7January 3, 2022 11:03 PM

In the Golden Girls Forever book, Betty is quoted discussing acting the scene where she makes a birthday cake the first year after Charlie died (and she gets emotional). She says that she basically wasn't acting--she used her Allen feelings there to let loose the raw emotion in that scene.

by Anonymousreply 8January 3, 2022 11:06 PM

The Hollywood Reporter did a much better interview with Vicki.

by Anonymousreply 9January 3, 2022 11:07 PM

? She talked in her sleep?

by Anonymousreply 10January 4, 2022 2:37 AM

How lovely of Vicki Lawrence to be mooching money off Betty's death.

by Anonymousreply 11January 4, 2022 2:40 AM

Will Carol stop speaking to her again for revealing that confidential information?

by Anonymousreply 12January 4, 2022 2:43 AM

Has Iola said anything?

by Anonymousreply 13January 4, 2022 2:50 AM

Vicki Lawrence can't keep your damned mouth shut can she?

by Anonymousreply 14January 4, 2022 3:06 AM

Why is autocorrect f****** with me tonight?

by Anonymousreply 15January 4, 2022 3:10 AM

Vicki is only 72?

by Anonymousreply 16January 4, 2022 3:15 AM

Kinda freaky. What if our people are waiting for us on the other side?

by Anonymousreply 17January 4, 2022 3:15 AM

R17 Lol, so everybody's just "on the other side" - friends, enemies, etc.

by Anonymousreply 18January 4, 2022 3:18 AM

Seems unfair to die and have to deal with the same bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 20January 4, 2022 3:20 AM

How the hell did Vicki Lawrence ever have a career?

by Anonymousreply 21January 4, 2022 3:23 AM

"Welcome to Heaven, Betty. Bea left something for you in your dressing room."

by Anonymousreply 22January 4, 2022 3:27 AM

It’s nice to think that Alan might have escorted her into the afterlife. I was alone in a hospital room with my father when he died and believe me when I tell you I could feel the presence of someone in the room with us. After he passed it was comforting to think he didn’t leave this world alone.

by Anonymousreply 23January 4, 2022 3:34 AM

That’s sweet, R23.

by Anonymousreply 24January 4, 2022 3:42 PM

It is all over the Press today.

by Anonymousreply 25January 4, 2022 10:39 PM

She actually said, “Fuck you, Vicki.”

by Anonymousreply 26January 4, 2022 10:41 PM

Betty was trying to say "Alan and I were both big homos"....but she ran out of steam

by Anonymousreply 27January 4, 2022 11:01 PM

"Alan"... "Why are you standing between Rock Hudson and Liberace?"

by Anonymousreply 28January 4, 2022 11:05 PM

R27 were they really both homos? I keep hearing that, but I do not know what to believe. Were they both gay?

by Anonymousreply 29January 4, 2022 11:09 PM

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 30January 4, 2022 11:10 PM

Would a gay man pursue woman shortly after his wife died?

by Anonymousreply 31January 4, 2022 11:11 PM

R30 Betty was a very strong independent woman. I cannot believe she would actually beard for someone. Did she have girlfriends?

by Anonymousreply 32January 4, 2022 11:14 PM

Those two were a real love match.

Everytime Betty celebrated another birthday he would give her mother Tess a present for giving birth to her.

by Anonymousreply 33January 4, 2022 11:20 PM

The assistant said that Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep. I call BS.

by Anonymousreply 34January 4, 2022 11:22 PM

She wasn't saying Alan, she was saying Ellen. She was cursing that mean drunk lesbian from her deathbed.

by Anonymousreply 35January 4, 2022 11:32 PM

R33. You're adorable. I hope you've read the lovely musings between Rock and his beloved wife Phyllis.

by Anonymousreply 36January 4, 2022 11:32 PM

I never realized Vicki had such pottymouth.

by Anonymousreply 37January 4, 2022 11:34 PM

R29. No, not at all

by Anonymousreply 38January 4, 2022 11:35 PM

Vicki is just trying to get that last bit of relevancy with Mama's Family. Betty will always be known as Sue Ann Nivens and Rose Lindstrom Nylund before anyone remembers her as Ellen Harper Jackson. Same with Rue as Blanche Hollingsworth Deveraux before Aunt Fran Crowley.

by Anonymousreply 39January 4, 2022 11:35 PM

Why do some people believe Allen Ludden was gay? I don't get it. Where are the receipts?

by Anonymousreply 40January 4, 2022 11:37 PM

Who knows, R40? That's something I've ever only heard on Datalounge and I've been in the industry for decades - even had friends who worked on the GOLDEN GIRLS.

If someone has an actual first-person story, please share.

by Anonymousreply 41January 4, 2022 11:49 PM

R40 Zero. No receipts. Not gay. Just something goofy a few people here decided to create to see who would follow along.

by Anonymousreply 42January 4, 2022 11:50 PM

Wow, it's almost as if DataLounge where a bitchy gossip site for Gay men

by Anonymousreply 43January 4, 2022 11:56 PM

Your will be no satan don’t take me

by Anonymousreply 44January 5, 2022 12:04 AM

I saw Alan's business card he'd given to a guy who was hitch-hiking to Uni on the Strip. His wrote his home number on the back of the card. He wanted to get together. He also asked this guy about free-balling, etc. Alan was gay, gay, gay So was Betty .

by Anonymousreply 45January 5, 2022 12:09 AM

R45 well, if that’s true I am sure the rumors will be coming forward soon.

by Anonymousreply 46January 5, 2022 12:12 AM

Betty's timing at the every end of this interview is brilliant. "Whatever Liberace was, he wasn't straight." Beat. Betty says "not at all."

Actually gave me a belly laugh. Interesting that she bearded for him.

I don't for one second believe that Betty White was a lesbian.

Did Allen Ludden like boys on the DL? Maybe. I don't know. But Betty was no muff-diver.

by Anonymousreply 48January 5, 2022 12:19 AM

What else has DL lied to me about?! Next thing you know, you'll be saying Vivian's last husband wasn't gay.

by Anonymousreply 49January 5, 2022 12:23 AM

R46 - Just so you know, R45 is mentally retarded

by Anonymousreply 50January 5, 2022 12:23 AM

Why did Vicki Lawrence drop the Schultz? It sounded so lyrical.

by Anonymousreply 51January 5, 2022 3:54 AM

Betty did one episode of the syndicated mamas family in 1986. It was assumed that she didn’t do more due to being on the Golden Girls. White said that wasn’t true, she said she wasn’t asked but would have done if she was asked.

by Anonymousreply 52January 5, 2022 4:51 AM

I can't imagine that NBC didn't have her under an exclusive contract by then, R52.

by Anonymousreply 53January 5, 2022 5:11 AM

R50 sounds like you’re very well educated on the topic, since it appears you are mentally retarded, too. 💋

by Anonymousreply 54January 5, 2022 10:17 AM

" since it appears you are mentally retarded, too"

A lot of that goin' around these days

by Anonymousreply 55January 5, 2022 10:47 AM

What the article fails to mention is that Betty and her assistant were playing a round of Password - for old times’ sake.

Assistant: “Lavenderrrr…”

Betty: “Allen.”

by Anonymousreply 56January 5, 2022 11:10 AM

Vicky has a smelly pussy.

by Anonymousreply 57January 5, 2022 10:07 PM

Betty White was late to the Mama’s Family set because she stopped to rescue two dogs on her way:

by Anonymousreply 58January 5, 2022 10:09 PM

I’ll bet Vicki wasn’t so happy that day.

by Anonymousreply 59January 5, 2022 10:32 PM

Am I making this up, or did I read somewhere that Vicki and Rue did not get along for the NBC show? Can anyone confirm?

by Anonymousreply 60January 5, 2022 10:45 PM

Was Rue jealous of Dorothy Lyman?

by Anonymousreply 61January 6, 2022 12:24 AM

I love Betty, but she had an old lady haircut (it was all teased and sprayed) when she started at 50 years old on The Mary Tyler Moore Show...and even before that, she always had an old lady haircut.

by Anonymousreply 62January 6, 2022 12:43 AM

Betty always always had the old lady haircut.

by Anonymousreply 63January 6, 2022 12:53 AM

“Allen” was the name of her sled.

by Anonymousreply 64January 6, 2022 1:03 AM

R61 Who isn't?

by Anonymousreply 65January 6, 2022 1:05 AM

Vicki didn’t make many friends in Hollywood after The Carol Burnett Show. She got into the pissing match over Mama’s Family, then she and her husband screwed up the talk show deal.

That’s the night that light went out in Georgia, WHOAH WHOOOAH.

by Anonymousreply 66January 6, 2022 1:36 AM

Maybe she said, "Ellen"?

by Anonymousreply 67January 6, 2022 1:46 AM

Vicki snagged an interview with the elusive Doris Day and handled her correctly: like a child.

Vickie needs a job. Anyone hiring???

by Anonymousreply 70January 6, 2022 2:32 AM

I heard she whispered “Rosebud.”

by Anonymousreply 71January 6, 2022 2:38 AM

Either this wallpaper goes or I do…

by Anonymousreply 72January 6, 2022 2:39 AM

How come neither Carol or Vicki were never asked to guest star on The Golden Girls?

by Anonymousreply 73January 6, 2022 2:54 AM

r61, maybe not jealous, but there had to be some resentment since Rue was hired to play a strong character who would go toe-to-toe with Mama, then the producers saw Lyman on All My Children and decided to hire her to be the one to oppose Mama, so Rue's character was rewritten into something she hated. She talks about it in her TV Academy interview (starting at 23:00). "I was hired to play a force, and I became a drip."

Vicki should retire to her cabbage patch

by Anonymousreply 80January 6, 2022 4:44 PM

Vicki is such a liar she actually said “LIVE FROM NEW YORK ITS SATURDAY NIGHT!!!”

by Anonymousreply 81January 6, 2022 6:06 PM

I remember seeing Pat Butcher's death scene on Eastenders on.New Years Day years ago. Well played. Her last words were "I'm scared." Seems more realistic to be honest. Probably what struck me.

by Anonymousreply 85January 6, 2022 8:15 PM

"My Florida water" were allegedly Lucille Ball's last words.

by Anonymousreply 86January 10, 2022 2:51 AM

R83 Why does VL have wrinkles under her nose in several of those photos?

by Anonymousreply 87January 10, 2022 2:55 AM

I thought Betty White died in her sleep?

by Anonymousreply 88January 10, 2022 3:04 AM

Bea Arthur seems like a pain in the ass.

by Anonymousreply 89January 10, 2022 3:04 AM

The real news is Carol and Vicki are still alive and gossiping about the dearly departed. Classy!

by Anonymousreply 90January 10, 2022 3:06 AM

[quote] How the hell did Vicki Lawrence ever have a career?

Probably because she bore a passing resemblance to Carol Burnett. I heard that's how she got on the Carol Burnett show; she looked like she could be Burnett's "kid sister."

by Anonymousreply 91January 10, 2022 3:06 AM

I thought Vicki was damn good on The Carol Burnett Show, including her flawless performances as Mama in the Family skits (I never thought the toothless "Mama's Family" was a worthy successor to the original). True, she may have gotten the job for superficial reasons (looking like Carol) but she delivered in my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 92January 10, 2022 3:38 AM

Hey Vicki at R92!

Please answer R88's question.

by Anonymousreply 93January 10, 2022 3:41 AM

Betty White is one of the few celebrities that totally deserves to be worshipped...and she'd think that was silly... and THAT's exactly why she was great. She was the anti-Kardashian.

by Anonymousreply 94January 10, 2022 3:47 AM

Smell her snatch. Peeee youuuuuuuuu!

She was 99 years old and about to turn 100. It certainly isn't outside the realm of possibility.

by Anonymousreply 100May 26, 2022 2:37 AM

Vicki Lawrence was a very, very lucky person to have gotten on Carol Burnett. She has lucked out and ridden that her whole life. Otherwise, the most blah person

by Anonymousreply 101May 26, 2022 10:24 AM
