I'd forgotten about this guy. I was listening to someone say the other day that there is a kind of specific routine people who get into a controversy like him are advised to follow, ie disappear for a certain number of months before returning. I guess that's what he did?

I believe everyone should get a second chance.

That said, I won't be following him.

I think what he did was reprehensible and beyond manipulative. He made his fans think he was going to kill himself (with daily "I have suicide ideation!" tweets) when the only thing he wanted to kill was the LA Magazine story on him.

He thought if the magazine was worried about his mental state, it wouldn't go to print for legal reasons. For someone supposedly so media savvy, he didn't factor in the fact that a print magazine would have already gone to print.

So he’s posting about his species?

His substack is him still going on about suicide and depression. Feels a bit manipulative. Like 'you can't say anything bad about me because I'm fragile!' I don't mind people talking about it sometimes but constantly is too much.

I still wonder what happened to all that money that was sent to him for charity. He's still begging for money tho at least not claiming it's for charity.

I remember a podcast interview with the author of the LA magazine piece on Ali. He said that there was far more to the story and he hoped someone else would write it, but he had been left exhausted trying to cover Yashar.

I wondered at the time if that other story was about all the money Ali had "stolen."

As far as I know, Ali has never addressed the LA Mag story--even though, clearly, that is what led him to flee Twitter, not his supposed suicide ideations.

I know nothing of the backstory on this guy other than that he sounds like the first real cyber-grifter of note. I read the threads but still have no idea who he is/was or what he did to anger people. And I don't wanna dig it all up online.

If someone is bored enough to post rundown of him and recap both how he apparently became famous or of-note, then what lead him to scream about suicide online, this lazy whore would be appreciated. I'll owe ya one too. ;-)
