Tell us about Soapdish, Datalounge.
Sally Field's over-acting, Kathy Moriarity's drag queen schtick (and Terri Hatcher), Kevin Klein's raw sexuality, and Whoopi's dry humor were just too perfect a combination for a young, suburban gay-to-be child.
What were your favorite lines from this classic Aaron Spelling camp fest?

Years ago I dared to mention that I wished Cathy Moriarty was on the poster and I caused an enormous uproar from what turned out to be a large contingent of indignant Dataloungers who didn't think she DESERVED to be on the poster.

For years I thought she WAS on the poster and had dyed her hair darker only to find out it was Terri Hatcher.

Kline and Field had surprisingly good chemistry. The daughter-dad subplot was cringe-y. Otherwise very forgettable but mildly amusing.

SHUE is so awful. She hasnt a funny bone in her body. Most of the rest of the casting was so great but she was AWFUL.

I agree that Shue was terrible. If the rest of the cast hadn’t been so good she would have ruined the movie.

R28 she’s not as bad as her brother Andrew Shue, who is the definition of bad soap opera acting, playing Billy on Melrose Place, another Aaron Spelling production

I might be the only person on the planet who thought Shue was fine in this, particularly when she blows up about her turban too.
But it's Kathy who really sells this thing and RDJ as her eye-candy not-quite-victim.
Kathy absolutely deserved a spot on the poster. She's the principal antagonist.

R37, I agree about Shue too. The Tweety Bird hat scene was gold.
I think they were talking about Kathy Najimy not being on the poster---K. Moriarity is on the poster (the tranny villian).

if i remember correctly, Cathy Moriarty had a scheduling conflict with the poster shoot and thats why she wasn't on the poster. Its clear from the design that she probably should have been in the teri hatcher spot. back then those shoots could cost $100k or more and while she's legendary in this movie, the studio probably didnt care if she made it on to the poster or not and certainly wouldnt have paid extra to accomodate her schedule

I think Shue is a good actress. She can be funny (Adventures in Babysitting) but her role is not much to work with and is a plot device.
Kevin Kline and Cathy Moriarty are absolute perfection in this. I think Kline is just as funny in this as he is in A Fish Called Wanda.
And this thread has helped conjure up a wonderful surprise: Soapdish is FINALLY coming to Blu-Ray April 5, 2022!!!

She would have killed the movie dead - Shue was bad but not as bad as Julia would have been.
Julia is about as funny as a haemorrhoid. Feel free to contradict me and remind me of a hilarious scene or one liner I may have missed.
