What is your workout routine?

I've decided to bust my fat ass into shape in the new year. What do you do to stay in shape? Which workouts, how long, and how often?

by Anonymousreply 37September 8, 2022 6:38 AM

I was going to post something helpful but then I saw it was you.

by Anonymousreply 1January 2, 2022 9:37 PM

R1 God bless you!

by Anonymousreply 2January 2, 2022 9:38 PM

I generally bike in the morning, summers I swim religiously, and I walk everywhere most everyday (grocery, post office, errands), no car here. That's how I maintain my 40yo 5'4" 130 lbs frame. If nothing else, walk more often, your heart will appreciate it. :-)

by Anonymousreply 3January 2, 2022 9:42 PM

R1 you are such an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 4January 2, 2022 9:51 PM

Full body workout 3-4x a week, for about 90 minutes.

Eight exercises to cover chest, core, back, legs, arms, shoulders.

About 4 sets per exercise, 10-15 reps per set.

.

Compile a long list of exercises for every muscle group so that you have always some variation going on and lots to choose from.

20, then 7-5-3-3-1, then 20

by Anonymousreply 6January 2, 2022 9:55 PM

R5 How do you fit that into your routine?

by Anonymousreply 7January 2, 2022 9:55 PM

I am laid back as straight guys, so nothing, just walks with my dog.

by Anonymousreply 8January 2, 2022 9:56 PM

I go to the gym 4-5 days a week. My personal trainer is via the Future app. I recommend it. Future works with Apple Watch and only costs $150 a month. Less expensive and more flexible than in person training.

R7 getting up early

by Anonymousreply 10January 2, 2022 10:09 PM

I tie a cinder block to my waist and jump into the deep end of the pool. You should try it.

by Anonymousreply 11January 2, 2022 10:13 PM

I fling myself off buildings, you should try that one OP

by Anonymousreply 12January 2, 2022 10:29 PM

Was going to join the gym again and then...

Still mini-tramp (not a little person) for 20 minutes or so, and mainly bodyweight, pushups, straight leg raises on the pull up bar, and pullups.

by Anonymousreply 13January 2, 2022 10:35 PM

I like to kick, stretch and KICK!

by Anonymousreply 14January 2, 2022 10:40 PM

During the pandemic I sat in my sofa watching TV and the internet. Every so often I'd get a burst of energy and get up for a cupcake.

That regular burst of energy is very important for keeping your metabolism going.

And the cupcakes were yummy.

by Anonymousreply 15January 2, 2022 10:46 PM

I speed walk for about 45 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 16January 2, 2022 10:50 PM

I use my dominant arm to life the bottle of gin and my left hand to lift the pack of smokes.

by Anonymousreply 17January 2, 2022 10:50 PM

check out kinobody.com . The trainer has different programs for different goals. You pay like 50-70 bucks one time for the routine, videos and Facebook group access. I did GGP at the gym and the MS bodyweight routines during lock down. 42 years old and in the best shape of my life. It sound douchey at first but this guy knows what exercises work and how many to do. Not a shill I promise!

by Anonymousreply 18January 2, 2022 10:51 PM

Stop pretending you are a Christian Defact0. It is irritating to the real Christians.

by Anonymousreply 19January 2, 2022 11:10 PM

R19 Of course, all hundred thousands of Catholic priests who molested children would be deeply offended.

Covid has thrown me into an unspeakable level of sloth. We've been under mask mandates up until last month. I'm not going to work out with a mask on. I have allergies, sinus issues, and I smoke, and I drink. I'm no going to the gym to workout with a mask.

I go to a sort of exclusive gym, and they were sort of shutdown during most of this. I'm not going to describe why. It's been back open for a bit, but I've been hesitant. You have to pay a year up front, which I'm fine with. I'm not fine with paying for it if we're going back under mask mandates.

Prior to all of that

long form - taking my time - 30 - 45 minutes on treadmill 30-45 on elliptical while standing (to work that ass and upper thighs) 1-2 hours in the weight room - depending on if it were upper or lower body (lower body generally takes more time for me) I work all of the muscles in the legs, and stretch between weights. Not all of the time is spent lifting, it's extending the muscles through yoga/and stretching moves. My gym has exercise equipment that facilitates stretch beyond what most can do on their own in the weight room.

Even on short days, I'd just go do time on the treadmill and/or elliptical, and leave.

I like walking outside, but in my area the weather is so crazy, it's difficult to stay within a routine.

by Anonymousreply 21January 2, 2022 11:16 PM

I do atleast one hr of yoga, power yoga, or yogalates, the five week days. I'd been teaching before the pandemic, it helped me in ways my drs didn't think possible bc of years in pain mngmnt/palliative care. Teaching (and teacher training) helped me get a strong enough practice to really be of huge help off the mat, since the group teaching/instruction is off the table but it's helped me maintain my sanity.

Has to be done early (started within an hour of waking up). But I'm not exactly an early riser, and some days motivating is harder, so early generally means 'before noon'.

by Anonymousreply 22January 2, 2022 11:33 PM

Before you take that next bite ask yourself if it will help you or hinder you.

Food is not a cure for boredom. Food is not mother’s love. Food is not a reward. Food is not comfort.

Food is fuel.

R23 Hardest thing for me. I'm addictive. Whether it's smoking, drinking, or now eating. But I know that diet is actually the most important thing.

by Anonymousreply 24January 3, 2022 12:03 AM

R20 Accusation often is a form of confession.

by Anonymousreply 25January 3, 2022 12:37 AM

R23 I need to clip that to my fridge. I have been working with a trainer the past 5 months but the results are extremely gradual because I don’t consistently eat clean. I’ve only lost weight with keto and that, for me, is a difficult way to eat while intense weight training.

by Anonymousreply 26January 3, 2022 1:22 AM

Thanks for the tips… I’ll be sure to update DL with my progress.

by Anonymousreply 27January 3, 2022 3:28 AM

OP, I am sure I will like you just the way you are.

by Anonymousreply 28January 3, 2022 9:00 AM

But honestly, I think you have more balls than the majority to be yourself and you don't give a shit about crazy frauensteins after you blood. Though we might not see eye to eye I respect you for that.

by Anonymousreply 29January 3, 2022 9:04 AM

Thanks r29. Very kind of you to say so ❤️

30F, lesbian,, needing to get stronger, more toned and lose inches off my belly (am not fat but a fit-fat apple type, total nightmare), but the problem is I can't stand working with weights. Dunno why, just always have had a primal aversion and disgust with them, whether at home or in the gym. So the pressing need for me is either to reframe and somehow confront my issue with weights, or find a way around ever having to use them.

Have heard good things about bodyweight exercise--do you have to do twice as much/twice as hard to get results without using weights? That's my worry, as I'm not sure I can fit in or muster energy for hours of bodyweight everyday. If I could knock out an effective workout in a small space in under half an hour daily, that could be life-changing.

Diet is also something I need to iron out, so I'd appreciate advice on that from fitness DLers. Being an ADHD, picky, sporadic samey eater, generally I stick to fairly healthy or clean foods (except bread and fruit, my passions), like atm I'm really into seed/yoghurt bowls in the morning and snacking on oatcakes & avocados with oil (yeah, I know, cliche Millennial). Also am the type to have the same thing for brunch/dinner everyday for months, or forget/become too tired or bored to make meals. That is sabotaging my fitness and weight as much as anything. I know I need to start making soups and smoothies or suchlike ahead of time (say evenings or weekends), but again motivating myself and feeling optimistic about it is proving really difficult.

What's wrong with me? Why am I so unmotivated? Intellectually and rationally, I know I need to buck up and do it if I ever wanna feel good about myself, but there's some kind of block on my taking action. Just wanna look like Emma Jones, so I can feel ok about being an embodied person. As it is, I feel goofy and pathetic trying to show interest in anyone or ask for what I want, because who takes a weak lazy flabby loser seriously?

^^forgot to add that I walk/hike with my energetic dog most days, often up hills (which eats up an hour of my day). And I sometimes IF (noon/2 PM to 8PM).

Why respond to this troll?

We all need to stop engaging with these people.

They’re not OK in the head. Sure, everyone is a tad nuts after the last 7 years, but these people are unkind and hateful.

We need to ignore these people on line and IRL.

Sure, we need to be aware of what they’re saying and doing while placing our country in danger, but we should in no way associate with these people.

Cycle to the pool every day (about 16 and a bit km round trip) swim 2 km of laps. Also cycle to shops, and cycle home from work when I'm not working from home (about 25 km). On my days off I go for longer rides, 60-70 km plus swim

by Anonymousreply 36September 8, 2022 6:32 AM

R33, the bump is obviously Matt-facto. She’s been shitposting up and down the board. Why would a lesbian reply to this eight month old thread.
